My husband made a loom for my bday following your tutorial. I made my first rug a few days ago. I messed up on the last row and didnt secure the warp before i removed from the loom. Had to rescue it off the loom & did the best i could. 😩. It's so satisfying to have a tightly woven, "square" rug that feels and looks awesome. I previously made an oval fabric crochet rug but didnt like it near as much as i like this. I'm off to make a other one!

Ive been thinking of doing a rug with the reusable cloth-like grocery bags bc I’ve accumulated so many now! Cool to know you can also use plastic ones!!
Have you considered using double stick tape, rather than spending all that time and energy hand stitching? My mom bought double stick tape that was at least 2.5" wide on a roll (probably Harbor Freight) on her rag rugs. It stabilized the rug on a slick floor - - however, I noticed you are putting that rug on a wood floor. I am not sure that would make a difference to either the rug or the floor. I thank you for all the time and effort you have invested in making sure that we could avail ourselves of this worthy craft and product. What a blessing you are to those of us who absolutely THRIVE on "making do" ... and using our time and energy on making the world a better place through handcrafting.

WOW! You must have the patience of Job! I think I’d get confused about which vertical fabric to wrap the horizontal fabric around. My sister is a weaver.She has an old really big floor loom. It is really cool and I think it makes it easier to weave. But I applaud you and your husband and all that do this.

it seems like you’re mostly using woven fabrics. Can you use stretchy knit fabric or will that mess up the final shape of the rug? If you CAN use stretchy knit fabrics, is it OK to use them for the warp and/or the weaving fabric, just the warp, or just the weaving fabric? Thanks!

Wow, I never though of starting in the middle. You would certainly be able to do that, you would just make sure you lock off the ends by weaving under the nails on each end. If you try it, I would love to see pictures! diyonthehouse@gmail.com
Hi. When weaving do you always go around two strands of warp fabric (i.e. coming through the hole directly under the nail)? Or could you twine around just one warp strand at a time (the gap between the nails as well as below the nails) .... I guess having a tighter or denser weave finish? Great videos, you are so helpful!!
I would predict that if you wove around each one, it may not lay flat, that it would start to buckle with so much volume in each area?? That happened when I tried wider strips in bulkier fabric, they didn't lay flat. If you try it - let me know!!
Oh boy, in my haste to get started on the jean rug I did not start the first row correctly. Is there a way to save the project without having to redo the whole thing? t is still on the loom because I am hoping to find a solution before it is destroyed! I am rather new at crafting and I admit to being confused when the jeans video was cut off.
Hi! I could use help! Working on my 2nd rug. First one I did double the work (wove over each warp!). I'm confused when I come back to the right side to turn the end when I get past the loop and the warp becomes one warp instead of the loop (2). Fantastic question! When you come back around - and if there is just one warp strip - just go over 1 warp strip and then continue with 2 strips the rest of the way across - making sure you go around the rod as well! Once you get to the end of the rug, that is when you are going to change it up and 'lock' in your weaving by going through the loop of the warp so that your weaving doesn't slide off - but for the main part of the rug, stay going over the same warp. Depending on your set up, it may be easier on your back to flip over the frame and work from the other direction. I can't tell the difference in the finished product if it was woven from both ends, or just one.

Do you remember how long a rug this size takes you to make? Or how long a common doormat size (18x30) takes, approximately? Ty and I LOVE your tutorials!
Ohhhh no! If you slide all of the weaving together to one end, then you should be able to take the warp off one at a time and pull it through your weaving until it is tight on the new end of the rug. In my head this works, hopefully it will work on your project. Keep me posted!
@@gayjames544 Have you tried cutting instead of ripping? If it is still really bad after cutting, I would probably skip it. There have been a couple fabrics that I gave up on, because of the strings.
You can "offset" your strips at the beginning and throughout the entire weaving process, by pulling one strip longer than the other one, which will place your 1st knot "inside" and not along the outside of the edge at the metal bar. It also prevents two knots being at the same place within your weaving at the same time, which prevents extra "clumping" in the weaving at that one particular spot ... Therefore, the two ends you're weaving with, will finish and need a new strip attached several inches apart from each other, to prevent 2 knots being at the same place at the same time. This will prevent a person stepping on 2 knots clumped together which could create pain in the foot and possibly cause them to loose balance and fall ... This is a TIP shared with Love 💟
Ahh - understand! Yes, when I go from one side, I flip it over and weave up to the top of the loom. This video shows going in that direction. Appreciate you watching!

Maybe try two strands of jute -- or clothes line rope??
I just used cotton yarn, two strands held as one, to wrap my loom. I twined with leftover quilters cotton fabric.
I think using adhesive to glue down the shelf liner would be a lot easier than stitching it to the rug.
Probably would. I am not knowledgeable on glue types - but I am sure there is something that would work well with fabric.

Yes - that is how you do it. Start on one side and then turn it over.

What about using yarn for the warp?
Absolutely! Just hold an 18" ish piece of yarn between your two hands and pull on it pretty hard to make sure it doesn't break under pressure.

A smaller rug takes about 8 to 10 hours of weaving. I weave during our t.v. time in the evenings, and it usually takes about a week to do a rug.

Is there a best length for the weaving strips? I have ripped my strips from old sheets so they are quite long.
3 - 4 yards is usually max, sometimes if it is really stringy, I make them shorter. I love using sheets because you can get nice long strips!
