    Thank you Erin for enabling me to make my first two rugs with your brilliant tuition. You're so human, and patient and lovely! It's taken me till I'm 44 to learn to crotchet - and I did it with sheet yarn, thanks to you. You are a gift ❤️

    I have been saving my sheets for a few years and Im finally starting to make rag rugs! I am so excited! I started with the toothbrush Amish rag rug however I stopped because I saw a video of a few people crocheting the rag rugs and it looked so much better!! Plus I have always wanting to learn to crochet just never had time because of all the other fun creative things I have been enjoying over many years like: sewing a few clothes but I really like sewing home decor(curtains, pillows, baby blankets, etc.), interior decorating, and stripping, sanding and painting/staining furniture, etc. Soooo I am SOOO thankful that you did this video!! You went at a good speed to show the single crochet stitch, which was very helpful not just for the rag rug but so I can understand what the heck Im doing when I use the yarn as well!!! Thank you again!!

      Yes. Many people made things with old clothes, sheets etc. Then we moved away from it. I think it's making a comeback and I hope that am playing a small roll in that.

      Erin Halvorsen yes you are, making a difference. Quilting bees( busy as a bee), sitting around tearing old sheets, shirts in strips. First all buttons collars cuffs removed. The joke : when rag man came at grandmother house not much left. Peace.

    I’m an intermediate crocheter, and I’ve been trying to learn the “why’s” of crochet instead of the “how’s”. This really explained how to look at your work and determine when to do 2 SC in a st instead of just one, or vise versa. Also love the way you handled the tail, I love working in the ends without having to go back and weave them in!

    Thank a teacher! Thank you Erin. I have a granddaughter named Erin. Love the name! I stopped trying round rugs because when I first watched this, I didn’t have the vaguest Idea what you were teaching. I got the round kitten rugs finished, but not too satisfied with beginnings of them. So I changed to oval. Much better. Learning to do a stair-stepless rug. However, with 9 smaller rugs under my belt, i am back here to really see what and how you accomplish the humpless center. Lol. Okay. Again I thank you muchly for your great teaching. I have picked up your ‘checking it out’ one or two SC and where. Yay! But now, i am doing a rectangular rug for the first of my six grown children who asked me for one. Cant say No to this. 😳😇🏹👉🏻you are the rag rug master. Penny Haulman

      Evaluate always. You might have 1 rug work that way but the width and weight of sheet varies it will probably not be exactly like same.

    Great directions.. But was wondering why you don't weave in the tail on the back side.Wish the technique to attach the strips together had been around when my mom was crocheting rugs and bread bag rugs. Would have saved her so much time in prep.. Love your colors on your rug.

They are organized better there than UA-cam allows. They are all still free. You don't have to create an account or place them in your cart. Just click on the blue link in the playlist description and view as many times as you like.

      Glad you are enjoying yourself. Fraying sheet yarn is part of making rag rugs. I do best with a minimum of 50 % cotton. Percale sheets are my favorite. You may want to check out my website. @@RagRugsbyErin I'm studying! I'm going to be making some fabulous rugs this winter ❄️ And you're gorgeous! I'm older, too. And some of us are never comfortable with ourselves, until gravity moves in, then we're like... I was beautiful. I'm working on being healthy, mentally and physically.
      Oh, and my 18 year old son is interested in the rug making! He did a bit of hand sewing through his childhood and definitely has an interest. When I told him about the rug making... he thanked me for letting him try to crochet as a kid. He said a lot of moms never would have let their son do something like that. I tried to prepare my boys to cook and so forth, you don't always have a woman around. And I raised my daughter to do all kinds of stuff, she's just coming out of the Navy submarines.

    Is there a difference in using a rag rug twining loom vs. the crochet hook??

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  4 роки тому

      I don't have experience with a loom. Crochet is portable and mobile. It can be quick. I have not tried my hand at a loom because looms do not have the versatile that I enjoy while creating.

    Marley
    from Missouri

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  4 роки тому

      If you use sheets to make your rugs they should hold their shape when you wash them. I wash mine on gentle in the washing machine and dry them outside or on low to medium heat if that isn't possible. I have 2 videos that talk about different aspects of this. They are both in my playlist Rag Rug Information and Help Videos. One is what makes a rag rug last and the other is Sheet yarn verses material. Hope that helps 😊.

    How do you stop rug from sliding on floor. Do you sew a backing

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  3 роки тому

      On my floors they don't slide. You can buy the spongy mesh shelf liner buy the yard in the fabric depth at Walmart etc. And cut it a little smaller than your rug and just set it underneath. Inexpensive. Hope that helps.

    Hi everytime I make a round rug it "bubbles" (what I call it) I have to smooth it out on to the floor and then it will lay flat. Otherwise , when I drop it to the floor parts of it look like it is making rings in the water, like a drop of water ....ripples maybe. How do I prevent this. This happens to me often.

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  3 роки тому

      I am sorry your having trouble with your round rag rugs. I can only guess without seeing the rug and you working it what is actually happening. It sounds like you are possibly not adding enough extra stitches to some of your rounds. I suggest you watch When to Add Extra Stitches to a Rag Rug. My free tutorials are organized on my website www.ragrugsbyerin.com better there than UA-cam allows. Over 120 videos. Hope that helps.
