    Oh my gosh, I just realized that I could make rugs out of the yardage I have left from the upholstery fabric I had for my antique shop! I hated to waste all of that nice fabric. So glad that I subscribed earlier and spent late afternoon today watching your videos. I think it is so great that you and your husband work as a team.

    I got one of these for my blind 90 year old mother. Once I started the project, she was able to weve by feel, even with her arthritic hands, removing the posts and sliding her work as needed. She made scarves for everyone in the family and about 50 more that we gave to a homeless shelter in town. She loved having something useful to do.

    Great video. I finally understand how a peg loom works! The fabric was very dark so I couldn't see how the joining of strips works - I'll look it up. I'm gathering up fabric (old bed linen, roman blinds, etc) and looking forward to trying this once I finish painting the house interior and making new blinds. I'd love to make 2 bedside rugs for our new guest bedroom. Many thanks.

    Many years ago I made woven floor pillows as a surprise for my sister. I made four pegs with holes like in the loom. Strung them with yarn and then wove the same yarn around the pegs into 3"wide and I don't recall how long strips. It was the same process as yours only I could hold it in my hand and slip the weaving down as I went. I made enough strips to do a simple over under weave to make a pillow cover sewing the strips together at the edges. It was bulky and lumpy but perfect for a pillow.

    I'm convinced that the only way to successfully use a peg loom is to do it on the floor. Every time I try to make one on a table or wherever it drops off what a mess I have, it all falls apart on the bottom, the warp is all tangled, what a mess. I'm not a beginner as I use an old union floor loom and a twinning loom have no problems with those.

    Would there be an advantage to clamping the loom to your table so it doesnt slide around so much on the table as you weave?

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  3 роки тому

      It would have to be like a C clamp or furniture clamp, or maybe some foam shelf liner to grip. I didn't sit at a table much, I sat in my chair and had the wood on the arms of the chair.

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  3 роки тому

      Sorry for the confusion!! When doing a peg loom project, it is best to prepare all of your fabric by joining them end to end, in one continuous ball, so that you don't have to stop and start while weaving. In this one I used a polycotton that I had left over from some curtains. Some of the plaid was some quilting fabric. Have fun!!

    It would have been much easier to see how you're weaving the first row if you were using contrasting colors of fabric and warp. It's not very clear as to whether your weaving through one or both strands of each warp yarn.

      In this video, I am using the peg loom, so I weave around the pegs.
