Your video on making the loom and this video are exactly what I have been searching for! This is beautiful, thank you so much for such fantastic instructions!
I have been watching a lot of rag rug tutorials in order to learn how to start this great hobby. Your videos are the best by far. Your loom making video helped me make a thrifty loom and your weaving instructions are easy to follow. Thank you for the great instructions. :)
Hi Kara! Thanks SO much for uploading this video! As a former girl scout I have soooo many old bits of paracord, twine, and friendship bracelet material that I have been dying to find a use for. I saw your soft teal rug made of blankets and thought it'd be a good use, and luckily I found this video where you had the same idea!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love your videos! I haven't made one of these looms yet but I AM planning to & your videos are essential, wonderful and so inspiring! Bless you for helping us all stay sane in these trying times!
I love your honesty and enthusiasm. I have had a stroke and I am just getting back some of my faculties. Do you have any suggestions for people like me? Sincerely, Bobbie.
Sorry to hear about your stroke, but glad you are recovering! I did a video on braiding tshirts. It is less strenuous on my back and shoulders because it sits on my lap. You may want to try that. I am also getting ready to post some pin loom videos that I LOVE doing. Here is the tshirt video ua-cam.com/video/muhUUCN8QT8/v-deo.html. Let me know what you think.
I absolutely love this ... Just a lil fyi for you >cut the center core out of the paracord your knots will be smaller. > for stronger splices Cut both center cores of paracord when joining and stick one end inside the other to get an even join... I would even cut the cores out to weave the ends for smaller bump... Hope this helps I love your videos....
I think you have me hooked on trying my hand at this. First to build the loom. Where do you get the rods and what are they called? Thanks so much for taking the time to share your rug making skills. You have made it look so easy. I'm sure I'll be back with questions once I start. Happy weaving.
you can get all the material from Home Depot, the loom I built was 25" x 45", I'd suggest you make one about 1/2 my size, start small, get used to the weaving, really follow what DIY on the house instructs, you can do this
For cheep but good quality paracord you should look at military surplus stores. Usually go for the ones on the spool because they will work with you on pricing. If you get just get the 10 yrs they can be a little more pricey.
Hello . Very interesting loom frame. Just made a small version. One thing when your husband made it , the thing not clear is how far the eyelet has to be away from the first nail on either side . Also can you also use this method for making blankets and scarves. Thank you
You will want the eyelets a minimum of a couple of inches from the ends with the nails - otherwise your fingers can't get in there. You can use the loom to make most anything!!
I love this rug. What was the weight of the parachord you used? I looked on Amazon at parachord and they show 550, 650, 750 LBs. I guess that is the thickness of the cord? Also, how would you clean this rug? Vacuum, I assume, as it doesn't seem like it could be washed. Thanking you in advance for your answer. We are all so appreciative of how you take the time to answer all our questions!
I apologize, I don't know the size I used for this one. Since it wasn't going to be under pressure and not need weight bearing strength, I selected the most economical option. I have washed this in the wash machine on delicate and line dried it - it worked wonderfully! Have fun - we use this rug daily at our door - it has really held up nicely!
What was the reason you finished in the middle instead of going from top all the way to the bottom of this rug? Jute and perra cord rug. Thank you in advance. Thank you for sharing all your secrets as I am just learning and making this my new hobby😊
Good idea. Looks like a nice rug. I would be leary of using jute for the warp. Natural fiber cordage like jute breaks down fast. I would use a nylon or polyester instead.
Thank you for these videos! I’ve made three of your rag rugs and am making a loom now for placemats. For keeping my rows straight, right after I warp the loom I take a quilters square and mark off parallel lines about 3” apart. Sharpie or pencil - it doesn’t show through at all. And, as you do in this video, I weave from both ends and meet in the middle. Again, thank you!
Thank you for that tip! What a CLEVER idea!! I would love to see your work, if you want to email me pictures sometimes, I would love it diyonthehouse@gmail.com.
Hi! I've made the loom and now want to, of course, start weaving. You mentioned mixing twine, hemp, polished hemp and paracord and I was hoping to see your recommendations for each in the notes. (Amazon, Walmart, etc all haveva LOT of variety, but the size of each varies greatly. Can you mix 3 mm jute with 2 mm hemp? Is any paracord size too thick?) Finally, as I was trying to calculate cost (being uncertain of which to buy,) I realized one could end up with quite a cost if not careful. Hints or suggestions on the most cost effective way to purchase materials (and I'm hoping not to have to go to many different stores to gather needed supplies)?
Paracord is by far the most expensive - twine is least expensive. Walmart and Amazon had the best Paracord price. This rug can become costly if you don't shop around! Have fun!
So just a question??? If you're making a rug lime the twine one, where you flip the loom end for end and work towards the middle. Are your strings/warp going to b off when you get to joining in the middle of the rug?
You are correct!! The same thing will happen if you don't flip the loom over, at the end you will have to go through different warps so that your weaving won't slip off.
I really love these tutorials. May I ask what are the advantages of using paracord? Isn't it very stiff? Can one wash it in a washing machine? Another question is if it is possible to connect smaller rug to build a bigger one and what would be your advice how to do it? Handsewing or crocheting?
Yes - it is stiff. It makes more of a welcome mat - very durable! I haven't washed this one yet. I feel like it will wash well. I watched your video of you and your husband making a loom, and have been contemplating making this rug at an 8x10 size using your loom and this twine/parachord tutorial. Am I crazy to attempt something that large or do you think that is feasible using your techniques?

I have a question... If you wanted to make a large rug are you able to make several smaller ones and then weave them together to make one large one? How would you make one say 4x6 ft. or even larger? A loom that big would be really hard to make and have space for etc..
In this video you are weaving over and under two warps (from different nails). I've seen other makers weave over and under each leg of the warps. Is this just personal preference, or is there a particular advantage to one over the other?

The crochet hook is just used to pull threads through the warp cords. You need to make sure that cords go through each warp, otherwise they will slide off.
@@DIYOnTheHouse do u use the crochet stitch on both ends of the rug cause my starting end is quite tight? I’m so sorry to bother you but so close to taking off the loom
@@bthom6302 You are just using the crochet hook to weave the fabric through. The thing you need to focus on, before you take it off of the loom, you need to make sure you weave under the nail on each end of the rug. One time I didn't start a rug that way, so I took my crochet hook and looped fabric in between each warp, under the nails, to make sure I didn't loose my rug. WOW! This is my favorite so far. Just beautiful- I love it! Thank you for sharing. One question - do you connect all the cords together in the beginning? Or add at the time of weaving? Thank You
You use about 3 yards at a time to weave - and then join them. It turned out super cool!!
How to remove rug from loom
You just pull out the rods and remove the warp ends from the nails. Watch the video on how to sew the last row. Thanks
I finished my first run,, yeee me, went well, now I want to find a source for free material.
I goofed, meant to say rug
FANTASTIC!! Super impressive!
Even enlarged, it’s difficult to tell exactly where tou are placing the ropes. 😢
Sorry - always trying new ways to get the camera angle! If you are needing help on the technique, this video we did shows it in slow motion - it may be more helpful! ua-cam.com/video/GvqnKL-XJ-U/v-deo.html

Can’t understand what your doing at all.
If you have specific questions, let me know and I will see if I can help.
Even a kid will understand this without any verbal explanation so,If this doesn't help you then you're too stupid to learn.
Love this rug and love your channel. You give us such detailed instructions that make weaving seem to be very easy to do. Can't wait to make my loom (as you have made yours) and start weaving bunches of rugs. Thank You so much for sharing your techniques with us all.
You are so welcome! Please let us know if you have any questions along the way!! Have fun!
