Sid Caesar was my favorite growing up, and doing these fake languages was my favorite act of his. On his show of shows, he could do these for minutes on end and my stomach always hurt from laughing so hard. I will never forget him. Thanks for posting this.
+truckereleven You really should look up Stanley Unwin, he would speak a gibberish form of English so amazingly well that people wouldn't notice and would just sit there listening for a while thinking they're understanding things here and there and not even realising he was speaking gibberish for quite a while. It can take people 5 minutes before they realise, if that. You can then play him to people and watch them.
I,too, grew up with Your Show of Shows. Cid was a genius and he was matched by Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner and Howard Morris, all extremely talented. Hawaiian entertainer Frank De Lima also does languages & I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't watch SofS too.
He could actually only speak English and some Yiddish. That was all made up from learning accents.

It's like an IQ test for humor; if you don't laugh at Uncle Goopy, just resign yourself to being a humorless person.
