Thanks Ron. Those auroras are some of the most spectacular and surprisingly easy to paint. But with ease come the chance of a mishap but thats life I guess - Paul 😃
Paul I would like to thank you personally, I stumbled across your channel in a lost part of my life. I used to paint quite a lot, and watching your channel has inspired me to pick up my brushes again. What a beautiful inspiration you are, and your painting is a direct reflection of the kindness of your soul. I look forward to your journeys on the canvas. Thank you for this channel.
You are very welcome DC - I'm pleased to welcome you aboard and delighted to have lifted you're spirits a little. Enjoy your own journey into art again. Its a safe place where you can unload and relax and find peace. I have lots more tutorials to come.😎
Wow, all three versions are just awesome, Paul, and I like them all. Couldn't pick a single favorite - because all three were my favorites, haha! 😄🤔🤪😎👍 Thanks for the great video!!!
Many thanks Steve. Think you'll love the simplicity of this weeks painting. I've been looking at it for two days to see if I need to do more to it. Sometimes a painting is finished before we realise it. Think I'll just sign it. - Have a lovely weekend - Paul 😃😎
Yes, they all have a certain something. Just goes to show how varied we can paint a subject. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment - Paul 😃😎
Hello Sweetie - its a fun one as always. I try and inject a bit of a story and this one cam out well in the end. Just like the three bears, the last one was just right! 😍
Stumbled across you, and wow, what a helpful resource! Started Bob Ross paintings about a month ago, and love the additional instruction! Beautiful work!
Hey Gregory - welcome aboard - delighted to hear my videos are hitting the spot. I try and post a new video each week (Sundays 6.00pm UK time) so hope to see you again soon.
Hi Vicki - thank you for the Super Thanks - it all goes towards the next painting tutorials. So next time you watch you'll know you had a hand in its creation. Have a great week - Paul 😃😍😎
Hey Joseph - thanks for stopping by. I see you've completed the floral course now. Well done your works looking great. See you for some more paintings in future. 😎
This is such a good idea, to have three versions of a Bob Ross classic, your version! It helps us understand so many different things that can happen when we paint. I feel better now about having made three good versions of a painting and one not so good-that I think I will keep now, seeing as I can look back and learn from it. Especially the law of thirds and how important that it can be to the final outcome of the painting. I’m not sure why, but laying down the lay of the land is so difficult for me to get right. I think it is intimidating. That’s why I watch these multiple times. I think watching you paint the snow in three different foregrounds will hopefully help my confidence! It’s amazing how after years of doing this, coming up with colors that go together and are eye catching are second nature to you! Thank you Paul, so much!! These are gorgeous. ✨🖌️🎨😊✨
Hi Stephanie - thank you for your lovely feedback. I think its maybe more important to see how a painting can evolve rather than just seeing a pretty picture. Trying different versions is a tried and tested way that artist have worked for centuries. And its still a valid way of creating a finished painting today. Technology can help too. But sometimes its just paint on canvas thats needed. Colour combo's are something you will pick up. there are some standards that work well all the time like yellow / red / lavender / blue for a sunset or sunrise sky. But you'll find ones that appeal the more you paint. Have a great day and its onto the next painting today for me! 😍😎
Thank you so much for watching. Every minuet being viewed and commented on gives my little channel a boost. So hope to see you for more painting fun soon - Paul 🤗😎
Hello, Paul👋🏼 Wow! I love the colour choices in this painting and the subject too. One day I hope to see the Northern Lights in person 🙏🏼🤞🏼 Your paintings will have to do for now. 😉 Yes, sometimes you do have to step back and not over do it… I sometimes make that mistake when I add a colour for a fun highlight. Give the cat a chin scratch for me. One of my two has the tendency to sit on my painting if I leave it flat. I’ve learned the hard way. Hope you’re having a great start to the week. 💖
Hi Robyn. This was a bit of an epic painting for a week. I'm not making life easy for myself sometimes 😊 Its a subject that suits oil painting so well. Lets hope my next endevour comes out the same. I'm just starting the process a day later than expected. Ah well life comes first. Have yourself a super week and look forward to seeing all your 12" x 12" paintings on your channel @robynplummerpainting
Thank you so much for your kind donation to the channel. I spend funds on new materials for future painting projects. Do you have a favourite Bob Ross painting? I have a list of future projects and will add you suggestion if you have one. Have a lovely day 😎
I love your channel and I 've learned many times from your channel. I'm looking forward to your new work every week from Japan.Thank you so much. My favorite bob ross is Evening at sunset,13-4. Ifeel magical sunset!
This was a fun one! I've pretty much finished it, I'll just go back tomorrow and add a little snow to the trees. I did the sky from #3 and used a little from all 3 paintings for the bottom part. I may have to frame this one!😊 Thanks Paul!!!
What a treat Paul not one but three gorgeous paintings of the northern lights ✨️ the 3rd one I loved the best ,and it wouldn't be the same without the cat flap 😅 looking forward to your next video are you going to give us a hint on what it's going to be ? I do love a mystery lol 🐈🐈⬛🐶

The black background is created with black gesso or acrylic and is allowed to dry completely. The liquid clear is still wet so that the colours can blend.
Hello Paul..I have a question please...in acrylics if I want to reclaim a canvas I just gesso over it....if I would like to reclaim a canvas on a practice piece that has dried what would I do? Or is it one and done with oils? Thank you for your tutorials and your time 😊
Hey there - good question. Its possble to reclaim a canvas several ways. If a painting has a happy accident and is still wet then simply scrape off the paint and use a little odourless thinners on a rag to wipe off as much old paint as possible. You'll need to leave the canvas to dry a day or two then restart the painting. The second option is a little messy but works well if a canvas has dried. I simply use some over gel! Thats right oven gel strips the paint off just as it would grease in an oven. Rinse well with water and air dry again. So a bit more labour intensive. My favourite is to simply make 'DIY canvases' They're made with heavy weight lining paper from the home depot and given a couple of coats of acrylic to seal them before painting with oils. Luckily I made a video all about this on my channel - here's a link ua-cam.com/video/Wbb9p3gdCHY/v-deo.htmlsi=JyFjAbthTw54v4WW I have a few 'How to start oil painting' videos you might find helpful and to save a happy $$ too ua-cam.com/play/PLia0kTctmZ_cjdl5rlQRjnYgBkiTBQ6wv.html&si=dlBcU9Q5lbFwL5-x
I loved the third painting the most but all so beautiful. How do you think this would work on a guitar? Have you ever done Northern Lights with a spray gun?
Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. I've only ever painted this in oils so I have absolutly no idea about using a spray gun. But, I'm sure there will be some talented person out there in UA-cam land that knows. It sure would look good on a guitar! 😍😎
