Great video! Definitely subscribed. I like how you give a brief explanation at each step. Just enough info to fully understand as you're showing the step. Hope you make more videos soon.
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed watching it. I can't wait to see more videos from you. I would really like to see your finishing process (grinding, sanding, and handle fit up). I'm a big fan of your work and your level of fit and finish is something I aspire to. I would love to learn more about how I can improve my own work and processes
Hello my friend, Curtis Haaland, my name is Guilherme, and I also accompany you by instagram. I had the pleasure of talking to you by the instagram deprived. I am a great admirer of your work, your knives are incredible. I signed up for your channel. I also have a channel here on youtube, but it's in Portuguese because I'm from Brazil, I'm glad you're here on UA-cam too. Hugs.
if you wouldn't have said on IG this was your first video I wouldn't be able to tell it was so well done. The pacing, lighting, instructions, and so on. I can always appreciate a good integral forged bolster on a knife, etc... Your classic predator shape too, I subbed and hit the notification bell button so I look forward to seeing the rest in this series as you finish this knife up. Whenever I finally get my forge area set up and running I will eventually try that after some hammering practice, etc... then later on make a survival knife with a double integral including a pommel for cracking walnuts, windshields, skulls??? whatever needs it. lol ... but that will be a long time from now. Thanks for sharing this video Curtis, great job on your first UA-cam video.
Great first video. Looking forward to more. I’d love some videos using only the hammer and anvil for beginners. I have a railroad track anvil, but am kind of intimidated by it.
nice video Curtis :) could you explain the tricky part of the shaping of the bolster (I mean the round transition between blade and bolster and tang and bolster) after quench and also how you put the scales on ?
Being your first video I just had to comment!! So envious of both the realestate of your anvil and the power hammer and press. I’m still using a 80lb anvil and everything with a 5lb hammer. Excellent video work and skills brother, I like your style. I learnt a few things too. Cheers from central Qld Australia 🇦🇺💪🏼🍻👌🏼
Great first video man, a suggestion for the next ones, drop the music and voice over to explain what your doing as your doing it, it'll shorten the video a bit and you don't have to be selfish conscious of your expressive hands!
Great video on integrals curtis. As far as heatreating goes, how do you heatreat your W1 blades? And does it matter if you aneal your steel before normalizing or after?
Awesome first video curtis!!! Really enjoyed it. With a tapered tang and integral bolster, how you to flatten the handles for scales? Also, plan on doing a handle tutorial with your domed pins? Absolutely love your work man
That’s a really nice hammer where did you get it. I been looking for one like that for a wile now and I just don’t have the time to make one. And nice video
I like it! Great first video! What's a choyle? And are you going to make a video showing the finishing process? Curious to see how you get those integral scales to line up so perfectly with the curvature of the bolster.
Any suggestions on good reading material for metallurgy? Self taught and new to bladesmithing. My blades are getting better, but I'm not too sure about the integrity of my steel, especially without such great equipment. I'm judging temperature on color.
This might be a simple question but where do you learn what the normalizing process is for W1 or other steels for that matter. I am new to working with steel for making knives and know the importance of that information.
Great seeing such a talent do a knife craft. You obviously have a gift.
Appreciate all your videos and explanation of your process.
Like the step by step detail here. Very nice work! Thanks for posting this. Don’t give up on the U Tube front. I really enjoy watching these...
Nice video Curt! I can’t wait till the next one.
I really appreciated your video. Great music and succinct (to the point) process shots! Thank you!
So awesome thanks for putting this up. 👍👍👍. Subbed and can’t wait for the next one.
Wow

Nice work! Great first video. Can’t wait to follow along!!
Great video. You answered several questions I have in regards to integral forging.
Ben waiting for ages for a UA-cam video. Thank for the great work and I hope there is a lot more to come.
That was really cool to watch! Thanks for inviting us into your world Curt!
Great video👍
Well done! Look forward to more video and technique from your channel. Thank you for sharing.
Great video dude. Very informative. I love the curves and yet, you still manage to get the tip and the handle centered up with each other.
Glad your finally on UA-cam, we need a San mai video next.
Great video Curtis. Keep it up! I'll be waiting for the next one.
Very nice job, Chris

Just saw this today. Really want to start integrals
What an amazing job!
Awsome first Curtis can’t wait to see the scale fit up, been curious about how you do it..
Great video great knife!
Nice man!!! I love your work... great thanks to you for sharing your knowledge!!!🙏
Great first video. Looking forward to more. I’d love some videos using only the hammer and anvil for beginners. I have a railroad track anvil, but am kind of intimidated by it.
Matthew Coats don’t be intimidated just get to it.
Loved the video, I’ve been following you on Instagram for quite some time. I would love to see a video on how you shape handles!

Great video buddy!
Good job
love it! thanks for sharing :D
Nice first video.
How'd you take over Jason Knight's shop? I wish I had access to all those cool tools! Really nice looking knife!
Thanks for shering.
YES DUDE!
Instantly liked! Instantly subbed!
Dude! Nice!
what about tempering can't wait to see the finished product I think it's going to be a good-looking blade
Thanks for sharing this, Curt. Rod from little_valley_forge

Muito bom, parabéns.
I was curious as to why you wouldn't drill your holes before heat treating?
That’s a really nice hammer where did you get it. I been looking for one like that for a wile now and I just don’t have the time to make one. And nice video
I like it! Great first video! What's a choyle? And are you going to make a video showing the finishing process? Curious to see how you get those integral scales to line up so perfectly with the curvature of the bolster.
The choil is basically just where the edge starts. I probably will do another couple videos soon of finishing the knife.
@@CurtisHaaland cool man. Thank you👍👍
How would you go about isolating the bolster without and press or power hammer?
Lucas Gumbiner use a spring fuller in the hardy hole to spread it width wise right at the bolster: thats what I did before I had the big tools.
Subscribed!🙃😀
I got to say your parents did something right what's the background music you're playing on your I love your playlist
Great
If you needed to recommend a super basic blade for an absolute beginner to forge what shape or form would you suggest?
When i see forging bevels, i always subscribe. Great work !
Quick question : why don't you anneal first, grind then normalize and heat treat ?
Nice music video
Any suggestions on good reading material for metallurgy? Self taught and new to bladesmithing. My blades are getting better, but I'm not too sure about the integrity of my steel, especially without such great equipment. I'm judging temperature on color.
Hey! Yes I would highly recommend getting the knife nerds book by dr. Larrin Thomas called knife engineering. Super great info.
@@CurtisHaaland thanks! I'll get right on it
This might be a simple question but where do you learn what the normalizing process is for W1 or other steels for that matter. I am new to working with steel for making knives and know the importance of that information.
ogel4132 theres a free app for that called “heat treat” it has a ton of info and its all very accurate. Its made by ASM international.
I've been wanting to ask this for a while but what are you recording with
backyard blades master this video was taken with a Canon 80D with a 18-135mm lense.
So what does integral mean when making knives.??
Lenblacksmith im fairly certain I say somewhere in that video but its where you forge part of that handle in with the blade.
@@CurtisHaaland ok thanks.
👍👍👍
Yooo. First. Love your work!!!!!
If i wasn’t spending all my money on steel and handle blocks.... I know what I’d buy
Thanks Brother!
Awesome Bladesmith. Check him out!!
I am subscribing and I enjoy watching your procedure, but I had to mute and unmute as you explained...you need to lose the bar-fly music...
You seems nervous
Loose the music
