From a guy who just started forging, the narrating helps a ton. So many skilled craftsmen on UA-cam, but you're the first I've seen to explain your process
John Switzer from black bear forge, Daniel Moss from Trust me I'm a blacksmith, Roy Adams from Christ Centered Iron works, Alec Steele, Tim from Big Dog forge, Jason Knight, and Yamez from island metal forge.
I found it inspiring, because that is exactly the issues I come up to. I also found your honesty refreshing, but you did not need to be apologetic. As some one commented, I also love watching your videos and often out of the box thinking. the shape of your knife really appeals to me and the wood is lovely and pleasing to the eye. Thank you so much.
Aww, man. I need some springs - and there are some cheap knives going in the pound-shop this week. Make a video and show us the method please. Thanks! :-)
It has been a blast, watching your journey in smithing. Your work just keeps getting better and better. And too thick or not, this is a beautiful knife
I've been watching forging/knife making videos for about 1.5 years now, and yours is one of the most honest down to earth (not constant talking) enjoyable vids out there. Great stuff. Subscribed.
I love that knife. For a crappy learning knife it sure turned out beautiful. I for one would be proud to have it in my camping kit. Please keep these videos coming they mesmerize me. Thanks
Hey man, a cool trick to drilling round stock like that is to chuck the drill bit in upside down then lower it down and clamp the bit in the vise. Then chuck the round stock. Kinda like a lathe. I was able to drill an 1/8th" hole in 3/16” aluminum.
you know how many videos i've searched looking for someone making a stacked leather handle in the style of the kabar or the camillus with the big nut as the handle tap? countless, countless hours. awesome video.
Man! That is beaitiful!!! I've been trying to figure out what knife I'm gonna do next, and this really helped. There are several things in this video I haven't tried before. Thank you so much for the quality content.
Nice ... to address the possible dips etc caused when gringing, I was advised by a knife maker buddy to use a disc sander ... I use an 8.5 inch diameter disc to allow you to use 8.5 x 11 inch sanding paper. A trick is to glue a cork backing to the disc, approx 1/16 inch thick. Once the cork is dry, trim it flush to disc and now you can spray a tack on the cork, place the sheet of sand paper and trim around the disc. Use trimmed off paper for hand sanding or finishing. If you have slight wavering from grinding, the disc sander will take care of it. Once you play with it, this process is awesome. Cheers, great video.
Alexander Helton you still looking to give those to someone 😂😂 fr tho send them to him, see if he can make a railroad spike or something out of them lmao
Toaist saying of the day: The mark of the true master craftsman is not that his work is free of mistakes but that after years of hard use one is still unable to find where he repaired them.
I like it. Nice blade. Good idea on the threaded tang. I think a round handle that goes on a threaded tang would feel nice too. Could spin it quickly in your hand. Could easily replace the handle that way too. Just screw and glue on a new one.
I use reclaimed steel almost exclusively (still learning and don't want to spend a bunch of money on my screw ups) and a tip to straightening out coil springs is to use a torch, I use my cutting torch to conserve on gas but a rosebud could do the job if needed. I simply heat the small area up to be straightened then put it in my vice or my hardy hole, get it passable straight and then move on to the next section just above it. After I get enough material relatively straight, I then put it in my forge to get it perfect.
That is a nice looking knife. I really like the look the died black leather and brass give with the wood grain and color tones of the wood handle. The screw you made for the tang would look good in brass if it's possible. I would buy one of these knives from just the way it is, leather and all. Nice work.
Nice work. Gives me some ideas. I'm slowly transitioning from exclusively producing bushcraft and survival knives to some fine kitchen cutting tools. Thanks !!
Just a quick tip for drilling (mostly) round stock... load it in your chuck, then center your drill vice on the lowered work. Release the chuck, insert your drill bit and drill that center. As long as your pedestal drill doesn't have a ton of play you should be spot on every time.
Green Beetle, I have been watching your videos for a very long time and can say you have come a long way on your work. It's always a pleasure watching you creat something sharp... Martin M&S Blades
One thing I learned at one of the hammer ins is to do a full anneal on your steel before you do anything else to it and it should take care of most cracks that would develop had you not done a full anneal
I was straighting out coil spring yesterday an I've got no togs just plairs I've turned into tongs, the peice came flinging up and hit me across my right eye. Thank God it just left me alittle bloody.
The acid etching is a great idea as well as snapping a sample of your junk steel that you have heat treated. By looking at the grain structure you can infer a lot about the steel.
Yes. Take it from someone who’s worked in a commercial kitchen for 25 years I like a knife not too thick seem to be the fad now. This is a nice looking blade.
Great Video - Great looking little knife from an easy access material, I am going to try to make one myself. I think you're selling yourself short on build quality, looks amazing to me.
I think you underestimate yourself. This knife is a work of art. And I'm not saying this lightly, like I like the knife. No, this is truly a beautiful item. All the curves, edges and shapes are right. Congratulations!
Dude NEVER apologize, for natural sounds of work, it is without a doubt the craftsman's harmony,

For sharpness test, only True test is can it filet onion skin paper and not go through?
I would gladly accept that as a gift thank you very much. As much as you put it down it still showed it’s beauty.
The end product looks beautiful, and I think the cheeky little handle hack actually enhances it.

i watched in reverse and now i know how to make a spring from a knife!!
Aww, man. I need some springs - and there are some cheap knives going in the pound-shop this week. Make a video and show us the method please. Thanks! :-)
LOL
It would be pretty trippy at the very least.

I LOVE this knife. Work of art. Brass, leather, bird and trout style? Wonderful.

Fricking great idea! Thanks for that.
why didnt i think of that??
Matt Steers awesome
Awesome
Damm good idea
Your attention to detail is fantastic, your patience must be saintly!
Not only are you extremely entertaining, but your knives are absolute works of art! I'm certainly proud to own a couple!
Dude. You continue to impress. You have an awesome eye for lines, and the skills to back it up.
Hey thanks man
@@GreenBeetle I'm serious man. I love the humility, but sometimes I want to reach through UA-cam and shake you when you say you aren't a pro.
I watched this video back to back again. I love his videos more than anything on UA-cam.
WHAT DAT? NEW GREEN BEETLE VIDEO? AW YES!
I like how you talk your way through it, unlike some other videos that just speed there way through it without any explanation, good job by the way...
This is pretty cool. In Nepal they make khukuris out of leaf springs so its cool to see it done with a coil spring too.
YES my favorite knife maker, is back :)
you know how many videos i've searched looking for someone making a stacked leather handle in the style of the kabar or the camillus with the big nut as the handle tap? countless, countless hours.
awesome video.
سلام ...ساخت چاقو زیاد دیدم ولی فقط کار شما برام قابل قبول هست چون دسته چاقو را چسب و انتهای آن را پیچ کردی احسن به شما کارت عالی بود
Really digging that handle material, and the leather and brass look amazing with it. Always looking forward to your videos.
Beautiful knife. That shape looks great for the kitchen.
That’s quite an attractive knife. Lovely form and the handle looks very comfortable. 9/10 👍🏻
Looks Fantastic. Gotta say I love your commentary, very amusing and educational. One of the best.
@Green Beetle One of my favorite videos of the year!!
all defects aside, that leather and brass is a nice touch
I'd just call it a beautiful all purpose knife that can do a lot of different things. Great looking piece that really performed well.
This looks like a great all around kitchen knife to me.
That's a beautiful piece. I like the way the handel compliments the whole knife. Well done !!!!
This is probably my favorite knife you have made so far. Thanks for the vid
Like the leather brass details, the handle is awesome.
Beautiful results man. Love your work, glad to see you back!
Really like your leather idea. Nice piece of wood too!
These two videos really helped me, I dont know if they are applicable, but they really helped me with drawing out stock and squaring up round stock
In this video a master of the craft of knife making beats any knife i made in an exponential fashion while not even knowing the exact steel
the black epoxy as gap filler looks cool as hell its like a really thin black ring
Great knife and Ilike the way you problem solved with the leather. Nice job
I am loving that curly redwood...
Man! That is beaitiful!!! I've been trying to figure out what knife I'm gonna do next, and this really helped. There are several things in this video I haven't tried before. Thank you so much for the quality content.

very good and it shows coil spring steel is workable for a knife and you adapted very good working round stock
Fantastic job. Great usage of car scraps. I love the knife.
Beautiful blade. Excellent craftsmanship, nothing to be ashamed of for sure
Beautiful craftsmanship sir. Beautiful knife.
From an automotive spring to a beautiful knife. What's not to like. Amazing.
I think this knife came out awesome! I would not hesitate to sell something made like this to someone.
You do great work GB!
Wait, you're not using 1k RC car springs or 100k Bic pen springs. Just an actual car spring? You never cease to amaze.
Haha. I want to send him all the springs I have from dies... gotta be decent quality. With 8000kg plus smacking 3mm tolerance, 20+spm
Alexander Helton you still looking to give those to someone 😂😂

I really like the handle, the wood and the rings great job.
Beautiful knife. Burch bark works so nice. I have used it to make a whole handle (50 pieces).
I like it. Nice blade. Good idea on the threaded tang. I think a round handle that goes on a threaded tang would feel nice too. Could spin it quickly in your hand. Could easily replace the handle that way too. Just screw and glue on a new one.
Excellent work as always. I've missed you and your work glad to see you back
Diggin this one, really useful all purpose blade shape.
Yeah almost like a mini chefk ife

The knife came out nicely - I'd have to call it the small game coil knife!!!
My favorite knife you've made sir. I've watched this video about a dozen times !
I think I an going to have to try this after the show. I really like it
Ohh that is a very pretty non-specific knife. Also in awe of your tomato.
That is a nice looking knife. I really like the look the died black leather and brass give with the wood grain and color tones of the wood handle. Nice work. Gives me some ideas. I'm slowly transitioning from exclusively producing bushcraft and survival knives to some fine kitchen cutting tools. Thanks !!
I'd buy that knife honestly, i love the black leather in it.
I actually like the leather spacers. My favorite knife is one my granddad had with a leather handle. That's just plain ol' ingenuity, not bad work.

That knife looks awesome and I don't mind the leather. Thanks for sharing :)
I think its a amazing knife from a old rusty car spring. Love the handle.
That's a beautiful knife. I really like the blade profile.
I don’t know why, but I can watch your videos all day

Beautiful knife as usual. Great video.
Loved it. Glad to see a new video!!
I’m glad I stayed for the spittle! Great vid! Beautiful knife!
Hi mate I’ve watched this build 2 or 3 times and really enjoyed it every time,, it’s a great knife thanks for sharing......
One thing I learned at one of the hammer ins is to do a full anneal on your steel before you do anything else to it and it should take care of most cracks that would develop had you not done a full anneal
The shape is much like a roach belly knife. Nice project. Thanks for posting.
That tomato is gorgeous
I like that you were open and honest about everything going on. I still think it came out looking/preforming pretty sweet! New Sub 😁👍🏽
I was straighting out coil spring yesterday an I've got no togs just plairs I've turned into tongs, the peice came flinging up and hit me across my right eye. Thank God it just left me alittle bloody.

Your videos are so amazing. So much information but also so digestable and enjoyable. Keep up the great work.
I am also not sure what style knife it is, however its really nice. Well done. those types of knives have a habit of becoming favourites.
This is a whole new genre of content i never knew existed!
Beautiful!! Very wonderful work all the way around!
I think its a really good knife. Great job!
The black leather and brass looked really good even if it was just a fix for the fit.
Stunning knife and excellent video - thanks
Beautiful Knife and Very Functional!! Great Video! Liked !! Thank You!

"Is what it is"
Most beautiful knife I've ever seen XD
Turned out beautiful
Beautiful work! I love it. I feel inspired to make one too

Love the geometry of this one, and it's beautiful as always.
Looks beautiful! Love the integral bolster
I don't see the issue with the leather. It's simply a design solution, that makes the knife more extraordinary and beautifull. ^^
Can't help but admire your taste in band-aids, haha digging the Ariel merch
It definitely has personality. Great video!
Dude that is a bad ass knife!
