Making a hand forged Integral Chef Knife - WASNAC X HAALAND collab

- This was a REALLY fun project. Andrew was able to stop by to see the shop and forge a blade in the shop. He forged a beautiful aggressive chef knife design and left it for me to finish up. This video records the process. I love how this knife turned out and I hope you enjoy the watching making of it.

Best ‘maker’ video I’ve seen in a while. Thanks guys.
Glad you liked it!!
You say you're not good at cutting veggies, but you're damn good at making a fine quality knife. Excellent job!

Красивая реставрация 👍👍
Хороший мастер👍👍👍
I love the contrast between the forged and clean finish. Quick question - how thick is the edge before you start the making the final edge with the diamond plates?
Me encanta ese formato, tendré qie hacerlo jejeje salsios
Muchas gracias!
very cool
Thanks!
Que trabalho fantástico… o acabamento de forja, empunhadura, tudo muito bonito! Parabéns colega 😊
Muchas gracias hermano!
@@CurtisHaaland Thank you for sharing your knowledge… it's an inspiration to me!
greetings from Brazil 😉👍🏻
Maybe one day I’ll make knives of this caliber lol😂😂
Someday you’ll make better 👌
@@CurtisHaaland thank you sir.
👏👏👏👏👏
Just catching up on your videos. Great knife! What did you use to darken the forged area?
Шедевр
I would use it for the rest of my life 🔪
резать огурцы таким ножом,
что забивать гвозди лагорифмической линейкой)
Awesome job, quick question why no mechanical connection for the handle and tang. Will the glue be enough to hold it together over time?
So the glue is more than strong enough for a chef knife but it’s strong enough for a chopper too. You do want to make sure you give the tang enough stair-stepping for the glue to hold onto tho.
@@CurtisHaaland got it, understood thanks.
What diamond stones are you using if you don't mind me asking? Beautiful knife as always! Killer collab!
Thanks! They’re just some I found on amazon amzn.to/3qP5V12
Hey did you make the blade vise? If not where can I acquire one.
I didn’t make it www.trojanhorseforge.com/product-page/thf-knife-finishing-vise
What is a suitable length for the hidden tang that will take the stress of everyday use?
Are you taking about the length of the tang or the blade?
@@CurtisHaaland the tang
@@buckbeans1 usually I think at least 3/4 of the handle material. A bit more to be extra safe.
So when did hand forge include power hammers and hydraulic presses
I understand the confusion of the nomenclature but I usually use the “hand forged” term for anything where someone is manipulating steel manually with tools. Meaning they aren’t using closed dyes and just stamping a shape out. The “hand” part of “hand forging” doesn’t mean you’re just using your hands. It means you’re using tools to manipulate steel manually. Im sorry if what you were hoping for was to see just us using a hand hammer and anvil. Power hammers and presses dont instantly make you amazing at forging. It still takes skill built by hours and hours of experience to use those tools well in the forging process. And we did in fact use a hand hammer to forge and shape the knife. The press and power hammer just speed the process up and make it possible to make a living doing this. Hope that helps. Sorry you were misled.
How can I buy one from you?
One more what were you rubbing on the spine while hand sanding?
Birchwood casey super blue probably, to make the spine dark

I got to watch you both forge at Brandon Franklin's hammer in for Jason Knight, 2 extremely talented guys! What did you put on the forged flats to get the black color?
Ya that was a fun hammer in!
I’m using birchwood casey super blue
Did you ever work with Jason knight? I think I saw you in one of his videos..
I have. I used to share a shop with him for about 3 years. He gave me space in his shop.
Why did he make it so wide and short?
Como faço para comprar. Uma.
