    dude, where are your subscribers?! you're my favorite channel to go to when looking for inspiration. best of luck and keep it going.

      oh man if you find them let me know! hard to reach an audience sometimes when larger channels have baked followings - getting my vids shared as much as possible and spread is probably the only way to make it grow!
      No honestly it just takes time from what I can tell. Things started slow but have been picking up - I think it just takes persistence and a consistency with putting out content. I don't know if i put it out fast enough to engage the community but I might try to pick things up in the near future. Can only do so much as a side hobby but I'm glad at least one person is finding some inspiration from it!

    Thanks for this. It was an interesting builds. You can make your own stencils, so you may want to look into that

    Such a great video mate, love the project. And to be honest I really like the looks of those crates! Inspiring for sure!

      Thanks! They have proven to be excellent permanent and mobile storage over the past year. I use them nearly everyday. Would definitely recommend the project for someone who wants unique storage - and I will definitely make more in the future when I have more space.

    Laser printers will work as well for transfers. What you would do different is print with using the max toner. after that there are at least 2 ways to get the image over. You can you acetone/paint thinner to transfer it to the wood. Or pull out the iron and iron it on.

    Great job, just ran into your channel. I like the finish and the faded look. Maybe it's just me but I think you nailed it...

    Really cool project - greetings from across the pond 👍
    I actually like the weathered effect your wax paper technique creates.
    I’ve tried stencilling too, and that can create different problems, such as paint bleed unless you use temporary spray Mount to fix the stencil to the ply 👍

    They look good. Stain is always a tricky thing. You never quite know how it will react with different woods.

      Thanks man - just wish I had done a bit of testing before. Still happy with them. Will be a better project when I attempt it again for a different purpose. Cheers

    Colonial maple is one of those colors that I thought would look great too and then just pissed me off to no end. I love the videos though. Turning out really good. I'm starting the recording process this weekend for my first project. We will see how it turns out.

    • @workshop_edits
      @workshop_edits  7 років тому

      Thanks! Yea when I was doing my research i thought that, when comparing colors, it was the PERFECT match and for some reason it just didn't quite take like I thought but it's definitely okay! Thanks for watching and good luck with your first vid!

    Great video, I've done this technique a few times with the print, It's actually part of my next video ;) the best way I found get to the ink to mark well is to use some masking / painters tape to hold down the paper and spend ages rubbing the ink down. Let is dry for a while then use some spray on varnish, a couple of coats, this stops the ink from smudging when using other finish after :) But awesome video none the less!

    • @workshop_edits
      @workshop_edits  7 років тому

      Cool! Yea it probably doesn't come across very well but I did spend quite a bit of time rubbing the ink in. I was worried I'd eventually shift the paper (which you point out could be solved with taping it down) and thus ruin all my efforts! Still think I might go spray paint / stencil next time but I'd be open to trying it again knowing I was (semi) successful on this attempt!

      Yeh it awesome! I wanted to make boxes like this for a while. But the stencil way is much quicker!

    Great work on the crates, subbed. An idea to slightly change the colours could be nails and vinegar. I had great results with coffee grounds recycled from Starbucks. They (at our local branch) will give it away for gardening etc. The wood went dark wonderfully I'd used some vinegar and rusty wire wool in the mix but I'm sure the coffee did most of the work.

    • @workshop_edits
      @workshop_edits  6 років тому +1

      Thanks! Yea I've used that steel wool / vinegar solution before on maybe half a dozen projects - it is awesome and has such unique results. I did it on the squatty potty episode on my channel if you want to check it out, as well as a few other things I built pre-UA-cam. Thanks for watching!

      The Cutting Bored I just told my husband (who is fitting my new kitchen sink) that I love you (your channel) lol. I was watching your engagement box video and you made me realise woodworking is accessible to me in my tiny no workshop garden. I'm more determined than ever to work on projects in my house with wood, from scratch. Well done it was a beautiful box.

      super kind of you to say. that was a bit of the impotence for this channel (other than me liking all thinks making). I don't have the shop but I make due with what I have and spaces I can access at various times. One day I'll have that cool shop, but like those guys who have it, it will be a long term thing I'll slowly get. Thanks again for watching (and sharing with others!). Good luck with that sink...

    Would it work to stain then add the logo followed by the wipe on poly. I think Minwax has a stain that ages wood. Anyway good video thanks for sharing

    Well done! What paper did you use❓

    • @chasefouse684
      @chasefouse684 7 років тому

      Mikhandmaker he said wax paper

    • @workshop_edits
      @workshop_edits  7 років тому

      Yes! Just a regular wax paper that you'd purchase from the store. Wax paper (or at least the kind I had) is quite thin and can bunch up quite easily in a printer so I recommend taping it down to thicker letter stock so that it runs smoothly through / prints easily and the ink doesn't smudge or the paper doesn't jam up. Thanks for watching!

    mate your absolutely killing it - the video production was amazing, as good as all of the big channels! you definitely deserve more subs, just a heads up though, the written article link didn't show on screen

      Thanks man! Appreciate the feedback - very kind! Always trying to find ways to reach larger audiences. Slow but persistant in my efforts!
      You know what - I created that card before the blog was live and forgot to re-link it once I was finished. All set now - thanks for the heads up!

      Where do you share your videos? I've tried a few sites, but it just seems to be pure luck - i see some videos going from a few hundreds to tens of thousands of views in a day, then others stay under a thousand forever, even if they're better produced (imo) like your videos. Best of luck anyhow!

      I find it to be a total shot in the dark. Some things stick. Others don't and I've never found a true reason why to be honest (which is frustrating.
      I share my content through multiple reddit subs (DIY, Craft, IMadeThis, others depending on the project), LumberJocks, Instructables (which is basically a copy of my blog), and via social media channels (personal pages mostly). It's a grind for sure but I love building and making content so it's much more enjoyable than work to me currently in my free time.

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745 7 років тому

      Yeh i completely agree, i share my videos on Reddit also, same thing over there though, some videos get 30+ thumbs up, then with an animation video i did (probably the video i spent longest on) it got about 2, completely random, and yes a grind but worth it!

    Hey man nice boxes, have you thought about using maybe "natural" stains like coffee?

    • @workshop_edits
      @workshop_edits  7 років тому

      Thanks! I did - I was considering using wine and coffee for this project but ultimately waned a consistent look across the three at the time. Would be fun to do though as an experiment next time!

    But the logos look aged and I think it fits👍

  • @AntiViGames
    @AntiViGames 3 роки тому +2

    Personally if you wanted to make something look vintage I wouldn't use plywood. Generally these types of boxes were made out of cheap pine I think and using plywood makes it look anything but vintage imo.

    • @donh3239
      @donh3239 Рік тому

      Agree with this suggestion. And as AntiViGames suggests, get the cheapest knottiest pine you can get, not the select stuff. Also, you might want to try hammering in nails versus a nail gun. The cut nails of your nail gun give away its age.

    Use freezer paper for your transfer of logos next time.
