Ferrari 458 Greatest V8 Ever

The Ferrari 458 has quickly become a modern classic. It's V8 engine is one of the greatest V8's of all time. Its specific output of 125 HP per liter or a little over 2 HP per cubic inch is a record for normally aspirated automotive engines. While the engines sound and 9,000 RPM red line are impressive what amazed me was the engines broad range of power and its ability to pull from 1500 RPM in top gear.

Steve old friend, my Lotus Elise is the car Ferrari would make if they could figure out how to drop a half ton or so. Simplify, then add lightness.

Not enough torque for everyday slicing dicing driving (a manual Miata is more fun for that). Get the 458 to 7000 RPM and it is magnificent, but you will find yourself traveling at multiples of the posted speed limits.
