As the music met Sput they shook hands, laughed and walked along forever and ever as good friends.
Sput is so good, it's downright stupid. Such an avant garde approach to the drums, and it's hardly his only area of expertise. He understands music as a whole, on top of shedding on a level that would satisfy the most die hard drum nerds. Life isn't fair; some people get an edge on their game and Sput is one of em.
i don't know if life isn't fair, he's definitely in my top 5 drummers, and he definitely has an incredible talent but also probably has worked his ass off and practiced crazy! so to me it's hard work + talent = top notch musician

It is called Open-Handed Drumming. It has a long history since the 60's and 70's. Look at drummers like Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Simon Phillips, Gary Husband, or even Carter Beauford, Danny Carey, etc.

Of all the recent drummers Meinl has showcased. This guy is the only one who plays musical and follows a groove foundation. Despite the technical ability, the intro was pretty damn impressive because he was still following the note structure and melody. Not just aimlessly throwing fills everywhere like gospel drummers do. He still kept a groove with nice progressive sounding embellishments. Most of the new era drummers bore me with their shredding. But when its musical, it makes SUCH a difference. He showcased his musicianship, not ego or ability. Some guys try way too hard to add flare and complicated patterns which dont fit the music. But I didnt see much I disagreed with here. Really good tasteful writing for the parts and feel.
