Bought a 2016 SuperTen ES as a 68th birthday present for myself. Happy as a pig in the proverbial. Recent trip from my place on the west coast of Australia to the east coast, and then return two weeks later. Biggest day was last day, 1700 km from Nullarbor Roadhouse on the Eyre Hwy back to Perth, a long but not impossible day. Not a single issue with the bike. Will repeat the trip before I fall off the planet. Fully kitted out the bike for one hell of a lot less than a BMW.
Have done that trip on my Road King and yeah it was ok but the roads in the east suck compared to the west and I now live in the east, so believe me the Harley's 2 and 1/4 inches of travel just don't cut it. I was all mad keen for the GS but yeah the Super Ten just keeps on jumping out at me for both price and reliability. My brother still lives in WA and I want to do that trip again, so I'm happy to hear that you are pleased with the Super Ten.
John Staring that must have been quite a trip, a lot of miles and challenges that we don’t have in Europe. 1700 kms in a day that’s over 1000 miles, respect to you
Bought a brand new 2019 ES XT-1200 last fall (2020). Best ever buy of my life! Best ever decision. Better than getting married. Perfect bike for a harsh riding like here in Quebec (lots of gravel, forest roads, mud, rain, snow, so so pavement, etc.). The ES is just fabulous: it’s even more confortable on gravel than on tarmac. I never ever tried the Touring mode, only Sport. This bike simply revolutionized my whole life.
I bought an ex demo 2017 Super Tenere (non ES). Had 700 miles on it, and all of the Yamaha bolt on accessories. Picked it up for $14k (USD). I was dead-set on getting an R1200GSA until I came across the Tenere. Bought it for the exact same reasons. Pretty much everything that comes on the GS, better reliability (BMW vs Yamaha), and came in at $10k cheaper than a BMW with the same mileage. The FortNine review on it is spot on -- it's a little boring, not much personality, but I'll have literally zero issues with it, and it's just plain effortless to ride. Literally did 1200 miles (1930km) in one day from Phoenix to Houston. In May, I'm gonna ride it from Phoenix to Vancouver, BC (1500 miles / 2415km) in a day and a half, then all the way down the west coast. Love this thing!
Good Video, I bought a 2017 Super tenere ES for long trips and dirt roads have a WR250r for single track. I rode from Dawson Creek to Tuktoyaktuk and Alaska in July 2018 the first year we have had an gravel road to the Arctic ocean in Canada . I covered 9300 km in 14 days , 2000 km of gravel roads. No problems with the bike. I switched tires to mitus e07 dakar 50/50 tires which worked well no flats . The Super Tenere worked very well for me . I saw one group riding together 8 different bikes Ktm 1250 , Super Tenere, BMW GS 800 & 1200, Suzuki VStrom 1000 &650 KLR 650 and the smallest a Honda 250. They had a back up truck with 13 spare tires, 3 flats on the Dempster. All made it to TUK . The 250 Honda rider had the biggest smile after riding the soft gravel sections of the Dempster . Good Review enjoy your bike.
Just got home from a 3500 mile in 7 days ride on my 2013 Super T and enjoyed every second. I too was going to buy a 1200 GS but the Yamaha was $6 cheaper and had all the features I wanted, as did the Beemer. Other than the Snobability I wouldn't need. Bought it new in late 2013.... I built my own crash bars and have laid it over several times with no more damage than to the paint finish on the crash bars. Having ridden many GS 1200's I knew how they rode and my first ride on the S 10 told me it was ever bit as good, and would fit in my stable of Yamahas and Ducatis just fine. I didn't buy it for a dirt bike, but knew if I want to roll down a fire trail it would be up to the task. Funny thing is it likes to run 85 MPH as easy as it does 65 mph. In fact, I think it prefers the higher speed.... So smooth! Your Video is right on the mark.
HawaiiRider what is the "better" more cush ride? I thought I was ready for a Wing but saw this on the floor and now thinking about it. I need a cush ride for my back...
Seen an Australian man once with 175 thousand miles on his super 10 only repairs he had done was a clutch and of course the usual services oil and filter change.unbelieveable.
@@martinarthur8928 I did valve inspection. Inspected suspension according to manual. Nothing! I beat that bike up! Had some brake problems in Copper Canyon in Mexico. Lost my all the brake fluid from my rear brake cylinder. Guess hit something on the brake bleed nipple. But just need to tighten back up and refill the reservoir.
I bought my S10 2017 model in March. I have already got 7100 miles on it. It is a fantastic bike and it is great for two up riding. The wife and I just got back about 3 weeks ago from a ride up the west coast. We live in Colorado. The bike was awesome. Loved your video.
I put 20,000 miles on a 2013 white Super Ten. Sold it to my son and bought another 2013 gray Super Ten and have put 17,000 miles on that bike. I just never get tired of riding the most reliable motorcycle I have owned. These bikes are tough, reliable and a blast to ride. Thanks for the video. Great bike.
I purchased my 2015 S10 ES for many of the same reason you did. Reliability, dealer support etc... Given the type of riding I do, which is touring, I wanted a reliable pack mule and that is exactly what it is. It does not win bragging rights on HP or electronic gadgets, but it will still pass a semi with ease and handles very well both on and off road. All bikes have their quirks, but overall I am very pleased with mine. Ride safe and enjoy!
BMW - is sort of like in car term, a good BMW sedan. Fast, beautiful, and pricey - yet unreliable when you most need it. Yamaha is basically Toyota Land Cruiser - reliable, tough, and the best off-road vehicle there is. Many of Tenere owners have upward of 250k miles or more without any issues.
I bought a Super Tenere in Mexico in 2015. The warranty only covers Mexico. I rode it 45,000 kms and over 6 months in US and Canada. We never had a problem. It now has 73,000 kms and no serious problems. It burns out headlight bulbs fairly regularly and rear brake pads. I doubt your warranty covers you outside of Canada and US.
Exactly what I thought - I don't think the basic warranty of any brand covers you outside your market ( Europe = EU, US & Can ...). Maybe some offer an upgraded warranty which does. But I don't know anything about that.
I had the same dilemma I decided for the kawasaki versys 1000 lt I tried them all BMW GS Yamaha super t Honda African twin and all are underpowered I feel that for the time of riding I do versys fit the best
I am starting to look at the S10 to replace my '03 Kawa Voyager. It has been a great bike, but ground clearance for the Topes (speed bumps) of Mexico and major road repair roads (which are everywhere as it takes them 10 times longer to do it) here in Latin America. That "03 rode all over the US (most of the time pulling a trailer), and then pulled that same trailer down here from Phoenix in January. My wife's DL650 (she rode it down with me) got me interested in a VStrom, and they are a great bike, but I am so spoiled by shaft drive and true CC. I guess I have settled on 800cc or larger because I am 6'2" and around 250 lbs not including luggage (kitchen sink if i could figure out where to put it). Bikes here in Panama are mostly under 200cc so when you find one larger they are at a premium (plus a 25% luxury tax over 650cc). Therefore, when it comes time, I will probably go back to the US (where I am still a citizen and my children live) to find a good S10 already mostly set up, but lightly ridden. I was strongly considering the Vstrom 1000 and the Tiger 800, but both are chain and the Tiger besides being more expensive "seems" to be more maintenance prone. Actually I think either would do. Yes, I thought about the Tiger Explorer, but I think maybe you mentioned that it is priced up there closer to the BMW. Anyway, just my thoughts. Enjoyed your review (usually better are the ones from actual buyers than just an hour or two reviewer). When you swing through Panama, looks us up. Nearby David up on the mountain, so usually cooler by 15F (10to12C). Gives you a good stop over and true riders are always welcome (unless I am out on the road also at the time). Oh yes, particulars might have changed, but maybe can help with some info. On a shoestring budget, but I can tell you about a least one route to get here from the US. Enjoy!
I purchased my 2018 Super Tenere 4 years ago new! Love the ride, the acceleration, the ergonomics and yes, even the price! For a very similar bike of another brand, the cost is close to double, in my view. This is the fourth Yamaha bike I've owned; each in their distinctive category. First off-road, then cruiser, the sport-touring, and now adventure-touring...the Super Tenere. They are super reliable, and comfortable to ride. I realize I should balance these comments with a negative aspect, but I can't because for me, there are none. I've travelled all around Eastern Canada, and parts of the US, and enjoyed every minute of this bike! It has all the desired characteristics of a satisfying adventure tourer. Always remember, the key to a successful motorcycle purchase is to firstly, choose the category that you need. A cruiser is not an adventure tourer! (Sounds simple enough, but, amidst all the great videos this guy publishes, I think this is where he turns up short. Just my opinion, of course!). Then, choose the power and weight you'll need to be comfortable on the highway. When you have this figured out, then the choice is much easier. ( Notice, I never mentioned looks. That's because it's not important to me.) Check out Yamaha, Honda, and similar brands. Good luck with the purchase, whatever you decide!!
Thanks! This review settled it. I have a 1200gs w 193,000 miles and it’s time for something new. Value for the dollar and reliability are my two most important desires. The S10 is it
I have had two Triumph Explorers and neither holds a candle to the Tenere. I was looking at the GS Adventure but the bang for the buck was just no there. The Tenere is (in my opinion) the best Adventure bike. I am very happy with this bike.
Congrats on your new bike. I picked up a leftover '16 at E&S last fall. They have been great as well. Riverside has been a great dealer as far back as I can remember. (70's) My friend's wife works at Riverside btw. If planning some long trips you will want to change out the stock shield. The Yamaha tour one is pretty good, but the Puig tour and the Vstream tour are fantastic. I am heading out for a 4 day ride in the mountains on July 30 on my own as everyone I know is working. Trying to decide to take the S10 or my FJR.
I bought 2008 r1200gs adventure from auction in Japain with 20k kilometers on it. It cost me about 10k dollars here in russia. Perfect condition, three painers. I got 30k kilometers in the season and it holds so far.
I do miss some things about Alberta. I'm in the Ottawa Valley now. Funny you mention cruisers, I have a Kawasaki Vaquero and looking to get rid of it for the adv type...hence why I'm here lol. I did live in St Albert, Danny Yaggey is a buddy of mine.
I've had an FJ-09 for 2 years, but servicing the chain all the time is getting old. If money were no issue, I'd go with the R1200GS, but the Super Tenere seems like a better choice. Thanks for the video...
Yeah oiling a chain can be annoying if you run a bike as a winter commuter on salt covered UK roads. So much easier with a shaft drive. Hose, dry and forget.
I had an FJ-09 did everything I could to get the bike comfortable and adventure ready. New seat, risers, windscreen, you name it, I did it. Traded it in on the ‘18 S10 ES. Best bike decision I ever made!!! Hands down.
My three Yamahas were the most reliable bikes I owned. Adventure bikes appeal to me for several reasons. After I sold a 2003 V-Strom, I bought a 2015 Multistrada. It was a POS for many reasons, so I soon offed it and began looking for another adventure bike. The V-Strom is quite a bargain, but I've already had one. The Super Tenere reviews keep coming back to the word dull: too heavy, not enough power. So I got a KTM 1290 SAS. So far this has been great. If it's reliable, I will keep it. If not then it will be V-Strom vs Tenere
Hell yeah buddy.. Just found the channel.. welcome to the Tenere family!! I have a 2012 Black and love it.. even missing some things like cruise control but this bike is a war machine. Subscribed off course \m/
I watch a vlog on a BMW price in one of the Asian country and if I'm not mistaken, the sales said, if you didn't buy the BMW on them you have to pay 60thousand everytime you visit the authorized dealer for whatever services your bike needs.
The GS is an excellent running bike for about 3 years! After that, 2 things happen,1) the warranty runs out; 2) the bike begins to break down and becomes very very expensive to own !!!
Yup. R1200R, rear end main bearing flattened (why? No one knew), fuel injection system leaked, Throttle cams cracked (maybe the heat here in AZ), furl gauge works for a year then fails(need 4th one now).
Interesting views. I have an R1200GSA. It has 60,000 on the clock the rear shock is on its way out and the extended warranty only covers it for the first 30,000. This led me to work out the cost of support, excluding tyres, will be over 4 years, ...... nearly £9000. That’s why I’m looking elsewhere for my next bike. The BMW is really expensive to support and BMW management are not interested. Alan
I also bought a 2018 SuperTenere, new. I already had a 2016 but sold it to pay some bills (taxes) and was crying since then. So, now that everything stabilized financially, I bought a new ES. I love the fact that its in the market since 2011 (2014 Mk2) because I need a reliable, bullet proof and proved bike, don't care much for "new models". my experience with "first models" was always awful. I love (really) my S10. Its an amazing and very underestimated motorcycle. It´s much, much cheaper that an BMW (you can buy another bike for commuting with the spare change). But for me is not the price alone, it because I really like the bike. Its the most reliable, do it all, conformable, economical, fun bike.
I just traded my 16 standard on an 18 ES. As you, I checked out all the others but nothing else checks off all the boxes like this bike does. I love the R1200GS, but like you the cost and cost of parts down the road scare me off. I bought one of the last 2 ES models in the Edmonton area. They were late releasing the 2019 and I was afraid it might be a new model and I had thousands in accessories to take off of my 16 to put on the new bike. I have it equipped rather nicely. Now that the 2019 bike is out I am glad I got the 18, I am not fussy with the two paint schemes they have this year. The 2018 scheme is by far my favorite followed by the sand color in 2017.
How's the XT1200 ES doing with braking and diving at the front? At the moment I own a ST from 2013 without ES (Worldcrosser with Akrapovic muffler), but I'm getting a little annoyed with the heavy diving at the front when braking. Especially riding downhill with a passenger onboard.
The Honda is good, but not as good. Sweeping corners, (dirt or street) the Yamaha is solid and allows the rider to be more stable and relaxed. Higher speeds are not as stable as the Tenere.
I love my S10, 25,000 miles on it, but it has a tendency to stall just like it did for you. About once a month the light will trun green, but the engine is spinning with barely any fuel and the first touch of clutch engagement will stall it. It doesn't matter what mode (T or S). I learned to live with this a long time ago. I'll probably live with it for another decade.
My buddy graduated the motorcycle tech school in Florida. My versys 650 did this. He said “switch from high octane to regular octane.” I was like “no way dude”. I listened and sure enough…no issues again. Rode smooth like a dream.
are you still riding in late september? I am very curious about how wind protection is specially on legs. I think the way fender/tank is built probably it wont let too much air directly on knees and up on the chest ? And wind shield will stop direct air. is that right ? Is wind protection good for Canadian falls ?
Alaska to Chile would be the most spectacular road trip ever, or like the northern tip of Siberia to Johannesburg also would be fantastic. I wonder how long a trip like that would cost and how long it would take. Would be so worth the investment, worth more than any getaway vacation.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I'm on the same decision dilemma, reason why I'd like to ask you, if today, May 2020 knowing what the new 2020 Africa Twin 1100 offers, Cruise control , heated grips and the whole package , except for shaft driven at a reasonable close price, would you take the Africa Twin instead? Thank you.
How is wind protecting, is this bike comfortable on highway? I am riding H.D. and ı want switching to big enduro because in hot wheather H.D air cooled engine is dying and terrible wind weary me. What about super tenere ?
I would love to see a detailed breakdown of the differences felt were between the bikes you tried. I'm in the market for an adventure bike and the top three are the S10, GSA and KTM 1290SA, so your point of view could be interesting. In Denmark the XTZ1200ES is the same price as the KTM 1290SA Sport though....
I picked up a 2017 R1200GSA back in Nov 2017. The incentives that BMW gives are great. Go to the dealer and ask about them. I wouldn't do the 3 easy payments. The GSA comes with the skip plate, engine guards, the pannier rack and more. I mean get on it and go. I will say the scheduled maintenance is a little high. But when I take my bike in for server. I get a loaner bike. 3 year 30,000 mile warranty is great. So I was happy to pay 3000 more. At 5'10" 33 inseam. I tippy toe both the TS and the big GSA.. I did like the 1290. I had a fun test ride on it. But I wanted to stay away from chain and sprocket. I just hated cleaning the chain all the time.
I’m currently going back and forth between the s10 and VStrom. The s10 has all the features I want (more actually for the riding I plan to do) but it’s so boring to ride compared to the strom
I have a S10 as well. Upgraded from XT660, and I must say, the idea of no chain maintenance is so nice, especially on longer trips. VStrom is nice, but the chain maintenance is the killer :-). If only all Adv bikes came with shafts
I could have bought any of the big adventure bikes (for my 50th) chose the S10. For me it was my memories of the early Super Ts in the late 80s early 90s Dakars. l wanted one ever since then.
I don't know how much the R1200GSA is where you live. But I found with the incentives that BMW gives and a fully decked out R1200GSA was around 3000 bucks more and I got a 3 year 30,000 mile warranty. I'm not going to get into my bike is fastest or better. The TS, BMW and the KTM are all great bikes. I'm cheap so I picked up the Brooks Autosports Panniers. Edited.. I had to watch a 2nd time. 30,000 grand for a BMW GS in Canada?? Canadian tariffs i guess?? $25,000 fully decked out R1200GSA from my U.S.A. dealer. I financed through my bank got 1,500 off plus incentives. The incentives added up to almost 2,000 grand. Thats like 3,500 grand off. The dealer in town that sales the TS wants just under 18,000 grand. Maybe the TS sales better over the BMW's in Canada?? Like I said they are all fun to ride.
Canada vs USA is no comparison, we get hosed! 25% more due to dollar exchange and tariffs I guess. A GS adv is Base Price: 22,700.00, Options: ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM: 300.00, COMFORT PACKAGE : 395.00, GEAR SHIFT ASSISTANT PRO: 565.00, LED HEADLAMP : 950.00, ON BOARD COMPUTER PRO: 150.00, RIDE MODES PRO: 585.00, TOURING PACKAGE: 2,500.00, Sub Total: 28,145.00, PDI: 500.00, Freight: 300.00, Documentation: 195.00, Enviro Levy: 10.00, GST and PST: 3,498.00, Total: 32,648.00 and you still don't have panniers or top box or TFT display yet. That's another $2500+tax so you are north of $35,000CAD. S10 looks mighty appealing now doesn't it?
I've had my gen1 since 2013, now with 61000k on the clock. Apart from the odd hard start, it's been problem-free. I take it that you can't filter in Canada? That would drive me nuts sitting in traffic, and seeing a clear route to the front.
@@Xanatros Thankfully it is in the UK, the extra congestion caused by 1000's of bikes Q'ing with cars in busy city centres would cause chaos. It's the same on motorways in static, or slow moving traffic, I just get back in lane when the traffic gets up to 25+mph. Many countries in the rest of Europe are the same as Canada.
You did not say anything, in terms of comparison, you did not mention the advantages of the Yamaha on the others, because you got the motorcycle in a day is not a consideration!
Public service safety message: you will notice that commercial drivers always attempt as much as possible to stop at an intersection at right angles to traffic. Even when the roadway is configured for a merge, like yours was. It gives you much better visibility. Especially on a moto, where you can make a 90 degree launch very quickly. Props though for doing it while narrating... I’d be totally task saturated if I had to talk AND ride. Chew gum, for that matter 😒
I did ride the Super Adventure R and it was excellent, came in 3rd on my list just behind the BMW. I really like the light weight feel, the TFT color display is fantastic and all the electronics on board are great as well. Price however was a concern being $3500 above the cost of the Super T ABS even before I worked the deal and $2500 over the Top of the Range ES model (did I mention that it also comes with $1600 worth of Panniers from the factory standard). Some other issues I have personally was the engine vibration which is something I have disliked about KTM across their entire line. Some folks feel it others don't but I do. The 270 degree design on the Super T seems to negate that issue for me or could be a V twin vs inline twin thing too not sure on the engineering there. I was also more comfortable sitting on the Super T and although its the heaviest of all the ADV bikes I rode it doesn't feel like it is. I'll be putting a video up soon covering some of the items I do not like about the Super T and where it fell short of the competition.
Your review was just what I was needing to hear. I've had my heart set on the GSA but after reading Consumer Reports reliability on brands, I am reconsidering. This is when I became interested in the Super T. I am presently riding my second 07 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe and would keep it as a secondary bike. I live in Arizona which has a lot of dirt roads. So an "adventure, go anywhere" bike seems to make sense. I have not ridden either yet but plan to in the near future. The price between the two is a consideration. I did wonder if you could tell an obvious difference in power between the BMW and the Super T. Thanks, Kyle
Power difference is certainly there I am not sure about the US but the numbers should be close. The BMW does have about 15 hp and 5 ftlb over the Super T so torque plus the lower weight will be noticeable for sure under acceleration. But over the last 1100+ km and the type of use I intend for it I doubt I will ever need those extra HP numbers. Unless you plan to put both bikes to thier load limits even the torque numbers shouldn't factor in too much. I focused more on the comfort, cost, reliability and TCO of the bikes and like I said in the video I have yet to hear anyone complain about any of those items on the Super T. Definitely ride them both and check out a few others...in the end its your rear and your wallet you need to consider.
@@TacMotovlog I personally like all the adventue bikes but decided on a 2018 KTM SAR. Retail was 17999.00 U.S. but 1500 dollar rebate from KTM and 1000.00 from the dealer brought it down to 15499. Of course add ergo seat, skid plate, rally pegs. windshield, bar risers and top box and we're about back to 17000 something.
I have a friend who never had issues with his GS adventure. But you can technically buy 2 teneres for 1 GS. But when it comes to actual handling and ride quality BMW wins. But my brother has Tenere I got Vstrom and both are great bikes for our budget. He got his for $12k OTD leftover, I got mine for $12k otd for vstrom.
I've been looking at the bmw but it is way to expensive. The triumph is to heavy and expensive. So far I haven't found the Yamaha around me to look at it, hopefully soon.
Just get a used one from a reliable source. Because they're expensive new, they probably often bought by gentlemen with mid-life crisis and they only ride the bikes in good weather, for a short period of time, so you can end up with a relatively low mileage bike for the age and in good condition. I bought a 2010 first series for £6000 with 24 000miles on the clock and the major service hasn't been done on it at the time of purchase as I've found out, but it only was about £550. The seller sort of fitted the bill mention above. A similarly kitted Super10 new ranges about £13000 I think. If you have a stable income, finance is great.
Either through the camera or in post production in the video editor you ought to apply some image stablization. It becomes difficult to watch when your head shifts around a lot.
Here in Panama you often have a slight ramp effect to get up on the road service. I think this is because of the fact they just lay the new asphalt over the old and it keeps building up. So, it is always a guess as to how much throttle to get you over it (almost like a ramped curb) without popping a wheelie over throttle or stalling it. "Most" of the time no problem, but when loaded 2 up it's harder to not stall or other. I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all if you hadn't talked about to cover your machoism. :)
I would be very interested in hearing a detailed list of why you picked the super T. I’m planning on picking up an adventure bike at years end and it a daunting task to say the least.
I don't get out much as in go into a bike shop I buy my consumables on line and do my own work or attend gatherings of riders and where I live there is not a huge population of bikes so I don't get to stand beside and look at the later models I just ride and pretty much just stop for gas and take breaks to smoke or eat or have a rest in quite places with a nice view . maybe i'm shy or a loner or sick of peoples shit LOL anyway a few months back I got to walk around a super ten and I liked what I saw a lot . I ride a honda Varadero 1000 fuel injected 6 speed abs model I cant fault it at all its a lot of bang for the buck its chain drive I can live with that but I prefer shaft myself . so I ends up in a bike shop recently where I saw my first in the metal crosstourer and Africa twin 1000 I have to say I was disappointed with the looks of the crosstourer when stood beside it and it was my dream bike I think the super ten looks better . in time I plan on moving up to either a super ten or a crosstourer I will have to test ride both when the time comes that will be the decider one is as good a bike as the other I think its just down to what bike you prefer to ride . as for the Varadero 1000 fi its the best adventure style bike this side of the super ten or crosstourer the vstrom 1000 have a weak clutch decent enough bike other than that but not as good looking as a Varadero . forget bmw ktm or ducati they are weak bikes fine if you have the coin for expensive repair bills or you can fit the expensive parts yourself . honda and Yamaha all the way for me screw the rest LOL
@@jeffdean7666 oh yes it is. It merely comes down to preference of engines types. BMW certainly has the traditions of touring. yamaha amd Honda Africa twin are as good reliability wise
My biggest concern with the ST is that it is underpowered at 85bhp...GS1200 125 bhp or some even 165 bhp. I believe the ST can be jigged to give an extra 15 bhp taking it to 100bhp...
TacMoto Love the video. I’m looking at a 2019 Super Tenerae ES at Riverside for $16,489 + tax. It is literally 1/2 the cost of a 1250GS ($29,500 + tax). I’ve been buying bikes from Riverside for years. I’ve bought 3 bikes from them. Amazing service and parts/accessory departments. I currently have a 2014 Vstrom 1000 that I bought at Riverside and I’m looking to upgrade to an Adventure bike with shaft drive and full electronics. I can’t wait to test ride one. Maybe we can get out for a ride together this summer and I can pick your brain about the Super T? Ride safe.

My brother still lives in WA and I want to do that trip again, so I'm happy to hear that you are pleased with the Super Ten.
John Staring that must have been quite a trip, a lot of miles and challenges that we don’t have in Europe. 1700 kms in a day that’s over 1000 miles, respect to you
@@TheTripleDubya Reliability and low repair cost are really biggies. My BMW R12R just needs one repair after another every year.
This bike simply revolutionized my whole life.
t'as bien faite mon gars! Chui le prochain. Enjoy!
😂Better than get married! No wonder..
I bought my Super Tenere new in 2011. 9 years and 70000km later I'm still in love with it. I have had no issue at all with it. Best buy ever
Love my 2017 ES. Traded in my Goldwing last summer. No regrets..
TheHawaiiRider for Hawaii it's probably a perfect bike.
HawaiiRider what is the "better" more cush ride? I thought I was ready for a Wing but saw this on the floor and now thinking about it. I need a cush ride for my back...
Just bought a ‘24 Super10. Thanks for the video! Glad you enjoy your bike.
I'm a GS owner and I adore these things.
Seen an Australian man once with 175 thousand miles on his super 10 only repairs he had done was a clutch and of course the usual services oil and filter change.unbelieveable.
2014 Super Tenere ES 120000km. No trouble ever, just maintenance.
Not even valve change
Not even valve change
@@martinarthur8928 I did valve inspection. Inspected suspension according to manual. Nothing! I beat that bike up! Had some brake problems in Copper Canyon in Mexico. Lost my all the brake fluid from my rear brake cylinder. Guess hit something on the brake bleed nipple. But just need to tighten back up and refill the reservoir.
Best value for money, and best looking imo.Shaft drive is the icing on the cake.👍👍
I bought my S10 2017 model in March. I have already got 7100 miles on it. It is a fantastic bike and it is great for two up riding. The wife and I just got back about 3 weeks ago from a ride up the west coast. We live in Colorado. The bike was awesome. Loved your video.
Jim W. I personally know someone that has over 90k miles on his. No valve adjustments.
Great bike.
You made the right choice.Excellent machine.👍Ride safe!
And Suzuki Vstrom dl1000 is a AK47 of bikes, old, trusted, and fucker will never die.
You bought it because it's affordable, reliable, practical, and the most aesthetically pleasing as adventure bikes go.Smart move.👍👍
Especially the GS is crazy ugly! 🤢

No doubt.
The S10 is it
"Value for the dollar and reliability are my two most important desires" So you don't care how it feels for you?
Алексей Шутов good luck and really hope the bike was good in every sense but sound incredible in terms of kilometres for 2008 model 😳
Great bike. I absolutely love my 2015 ES.
"changed the shaft drive" ?? I'm guessing you meant the gear lube. At 115k on my 2012 S10, trouble free.
Yeah he probably meant that, cause otherwise those guys on the north-south trips weren't riding a S10 but a GS. xD
How about the crosstourer 1200? I'm considering new motorcycle. I want a bit off road as well. Considering : At dct, sp10, CT
Forget about the BMW. You did the right choice. The best model ... by far.
Hands down.
Excellent choice you will be very pleased
You bought the super tenere because it is the most dependable and the best adventure bike on the market.

Hey great to see another edmonton resident! Id love to pick ur brain as im doing this toss up now. But its between the africa twin and the super10.
Did your Super T come with the side cases from the factory or did you purchase them?
I watch a vlog on a BMW price in one of the Asian country and if I'm not mistaken, the sales said, if you didn't buy the BMW on them you have to pay 60thousand everytime you visit the authorized dealer for whatever services your bike needs.
you bought it because its a sick bike. i love mine!
Yeah man. Good choice. The next bike I’m looking at is a Kawasaki. Dealer network is a big too, and Kawasaki has a strong dealer network
I hear this is the last year their making the KLR...
I have the 1200x crosstourer but if was changing I would go for the tenere as it’s another super machine with minimal electronics to go wrong.
The super 10 & the Africa twin would be the only adventure bikes I would be concidering. For reliability and extensive dealer network world wide.
The BMW is really expensive to support and BMW management are not interested.

i have a 09 Klr650 for 4 years eh, same blue as 18 super t, want one.
Hi, did you look at a Triumph Tiger 1200? And what were your decisions on that?? Ta
Any reason you didn't overtake that bighorn ute for the first 4 minutes TM? Don't they have lane splitting in St Albert?
Great video, tnx👍
Why did you choose yamaha over honda africa twin?
No .. Africa twin is not so reliable, robust and versatile as the Ténéré. Try top speed, then you'll see.
He said “switch from high octane to regular octane.”
I was like “no way dude”.
You made the Correct choice.
Thank you.
Tenere. Shaft drive.
No S10 is way better. The honda AT is more of a dirt bike vs this is more of a highway ride
How is wind protecting, is this bike comfortable on highway? I am riding H.D. and ı want switching to big enduro because in hot wheather H.D air cooled engine is dying and terrible wind weary me. What about super tenere ?
Are all the roads in Canada straight ?
Yeah very boring
Nope
LoL, I have a Super Tenere too, stalled it at a few stops sign but not on video
Great subject and info however camera work needs help. I’m getting sea sick watching!!
No lane splitting, no filtering in Canada.
I like you men... 😂... we have the same thoughts about Yamaha and riding motorcycle
Did you test ride a KTM Adventure? or super adventure? any thoughts on those?

How do you do your sound?
And the Super Teneré is more reliable than BMW IMHO
I have a friend who never had issues with his GS adventure. But you can technically buy 2 teneres for 1 GS. But when it comes to actual handling and ride quality BMW wins. But my brother has Tenere I got Vstrom and both are great bikes for our budget. He got his for $12k OTD leftover, I got mine for $12k otd for vstrom.
BMW lacks in reliablity , price, off road .
The Tenere has a longer sway arm than other bikes
Is that a Note 5?
I've been looking at the bmw but it is way to expensive. The triumph is to heavy and expensive. So far I haven't found the Yamaha around me to look at it, hopefully soon.
Why not africa tween ?
Great bike, extremely comfortable, just wish the engine had a bit more character.
Put a new electronic box and pipe on there. Fortnine says there is 20 more horses in there.
Big bore ADV bikes are so dang expensive! They look pretty sweet though.
ES is better, comes with heated grips, cruise control and more... For resale you will do better selling an ES.
May i ask why not a honda africa twin?
Chain drive and no Cruise control (huge fail on Honda)
Chain drive on Honda is pain the ass. Extra maintenance & need to adjust & replace the chain drive (and its gears) more frequently.
Demo rides for 3 years? wtf. How many trips have you taken?
The best
We all stall lol.... Nice ride
unless you have a Honda with DCt....if you stall a DCT you deserve to get run over.
Hey, I stall too sometimes haha
best bike by far then bmw gs
Did you compare the Yamaha Super T to the Honda Crosstourer?? .....just wondering.
As “Mr.Spock” would say,”You made the most logical choice.”
I concur, love my 2016 anniversary model. Live long and prosper.
Dude nothing ez and reliable about BMW... u avoided a lemon w/ the BMW, the only issue w/ XT is resale value.
it's as good as the Beemer
@@jeffdean7666 oh yes it is. It merely comes down to preference of engines types. BMW certainly has the traditions of touring. yamaha amd Honda Africa twin are as good reliability wise
The thumbnail photo is from a dealer in British Columbia Holeshot hahaha
My biggest concern with the ST is that it is underpowered at 85bhp...GS1200 125 bhp or some even 165 bhp. I believe the ST can be jigged to give an extra 15 bhp taking it to 100bhp...
It is 115hp and 85 lb-ft of torque. Lets get the facts straight.
We need specifics on all the models you reviewed!
Be better with out the picture in a picture thing.

Love the video.
Ride safe.
We all do that stall shit, i don't care who you are...
Had to stop watching and just listen , the camera work making me nauseous.. lol .. appreciate the knowledge though..
So basically, if you would buy a GS you would pay waaaaay to much for a crap bike which is unreliable as f*ck
I was watching 1 of you videos! You complain to much I've worked on bike professionally since 1980 I see so many people like YOU who it's about $ instead of true information. If you don't like it SELL IT! STOP COMPLAINING GET A MOPED SMH YOUR LIKE BIG ROCK MOTO ANOTHER CLOWN
BMW’s are garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made a great choice.
apparently true. There was a time their reliability was best. Still legendary, but sadly quality has suffered for some reason
