In 2018 I graduated and I wrote my senior year essay about Neil and RUSH. They'll definitely be studied as genuine english material in no more than 40 years.
They did a very good interpretation of it, but it just goes to show how intricate and complex Rush's music is. Xanadu is a classic, and I would regard the live Exit Stage Left version as the best live performance of any song by any band ever! Sixteen people trying to replicate what three people did live, and nobody attempting the horsing around and bumping into each other like Alex and Geddy casually did as they played
It took sixteen musicians to replicate the power and majesty of three , proving that RUSH IS and Was the biggest little orchestra the world has ever known
Funny - I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing... Takes 16 players (and a conductor, let's not forget) to do what three guys from Canada did... :) I wonder if the audience had any clue what it was they were hearing? (Other than great music, I mean)
Oh my God... whew... this is amazing. Someone, somewhere, has got to convince a full orchestra to perform this. It would be completely glorious. Bravo Bravo Bravo!
I don't know why it took UA-cam 6 years to recommend this video to me, but I'm very glad it did. That was a very special arrangement and fantastic performance.
I have always been extremely impressed with this song; however, hearing it converted into an orchestration ensemble brought out the impressive classical composition within this rock classic.
The fact that this orchestra was able to separate Neil Peart's part into individual percussion parts and get a violin to attempt to mimic a synthesizer is amazing! Period. Also, Lifeson's guitar work into separate parts and NOT be cumbersome...stunning!!! Yes, it's kind of elevator musicish but that's to be expected. Hats off to you for being this musically risky!
This rendition is really beautiful. It also gives you an appreciation for what the three members of Rush were able to do when you see 14 musicians covering a piece of their music.
Brazuca tocando Rush, orquestra ainda? Long live Rush!
A farewell to kings was the first RUSH album I had. Found it in my big brothers collection. Had a really crappy record player. Got a good (kenwood) system for Xmas in 1980. First time I listened to Xanadu, actually looked out my bedroom window to try and find the chirping birds. (edit) Great cover, I really enjoyed this.
To those who say that rock is not "real" music...that classical is the only true musical form...you need to see this. I do think a full orchestra would have been even better, but this arrangement proves that Rush's music translates well into classical. And think what a coloratura soprano could do with Geddy's vocals!

Arrangement and interpretation par excellence, with notably keen use of restrained guitar; but I think extra special kudos are due the drummer who made very effective use of a small kit for Peart's wide palette of sounds.
He basically brought a Ringo kit to a Peart party, and it worked. I was amazed. Great arrangement too, I think the guitar was more effective this way for this group.
Impressionante.... R.I.P. Mestre...
Interesting for sure. A lot of work went into the orchestration. Some clever ideas here and there and so my hat goes off to these folks. My only wish is for a fuller and more powerful rendition that a full orchestration is capable of. What this does show is potential -- i.e. that Rush's music is complex and rich enough that a powerful symphonic rendition is very much possible.
I count 17 musicians who performed this amazing and, dare I say, spiritual rendition of a song originally created by 3 guys from Canada. That is the magic of Rush. I know it doesn't take 17 musicians to recreate this song, and that it was done this way to pay homage to this song and add anything they could to it. This was an amazing masterpiece of orchestration - simply beautiful.

Excellent arrangement and performance! It has its own energy to it. Years ago, the great Bruce Dickinson told Rush, “Trust me- you’re gonna’ want that bassoon…” 😂
And 400 years from now they'll still be listening to Bach, Chopin, Mozart, and of course, Rush.
Love that comment. I put rush over all of them!!
@@johnhancock9249 All classical was once "pop" music. It's only the passage of time that gives it the illusion of superiority.
