wwwDOTfiferDOTinfo he always looked mean when he was older while drumming. I never knew much about RUSH as it was just there. Lately I am looking into their stuff and Neil Peart was interesting.
One of the greatest bass players ever - who is a real, very nice gentleman. One of the greatest guitarists ever - who is a magnificent humorist. One of the greatest drummers ever - who is the greatest drummer. Ever.
Mr Lifeson has many gifts. His musical abilities, of course, but he also has a tremendous sense of humor. Not many can convey a great success story by repeating one word. He can and did.
My condolences to Neil Peart’s family, friends, and the entire RUSH family! May you all find peace and comfort knowing you are not alone in your sadness! Canada and the Rock & Roll World has lost the greatest percussionist and lyricist of all time (in my opinion). I am truly blessed to have had the chance to see RUSH live in concert a couple of times. Each time my mind was blown away and left in awe at watching this trio of master musicians wave their magic wand with Neil playing those mystic rhythms on his drum kit. R.I.P. Mr. Neil Peart (Professor).
Alex was telling the Hall of Fame folks to kiss off. He knew it took way too long for them to be inducted. This was his way of getting revenge and making a show of himself. These guys are great!
I've heard him say that being inducted into the hall of fame wasn't a huge deal for him, that "all speeches were the same, something just came over me and I decided to start just saying blah , it was funny at first but then it just got weird." He said that being made an Officer of the Order of Canada was the greatest day in his life and the hall of fame wasn't as big of a deal. I know all of this because he was on the Trailer Park Boys Podcast, and talked about alot of it in good detail.
For those of you who are Rush fans but never had the good fortune to see them perform live........... I have had the good fortune to see Rush in concert three times over the years. One of the first things you noticed at any Rush concert was the audience themselves. They varied in age from six or so to grey hairs or no hairs like me. They came from every walk of life, from every nation, colour and creed. The one thing they all shared without exception was the love of the music from the band known far and wide as simply, Rush. They never resorted to cheap theatrics or profanity but relied on their musical abilities and their integrity. Their music deals with what has been called "the human condition" and it never fails to stir one of a plethora of emotional states in their listeners. They can change who you are at any particular moment, so powerful is their message. Whenever life gets me down, I can always find a Rush song that helps to bring things back to life. The first time I saw them, three nervous young men came out on stage and Geddy Lee leaned over the mike and said in a meek little voice, "Hi we're Rush and we are here to play for you." The last time I saw them, almost 40 years later, Geddy leaned over the mike and in a much more confident voice with a little smile said, "Hi we're Rush and we are here to play for you." They never lost touch with reality over all those years but they did grow and mature as did their fans. The induction into the Hall of Fame was a long time coming but we the fans knew from the beginning that Rush were always world class. Not just as a band but as the people they are and they will always dwell a little closer to the heart.......
Seriously? I don't get what he was going for at all. He's such an inspiration to me.....sad that he chose this ludicrous route when he could have said so many profound things about the incredible journey they've been on. Dick.
@@pjamesvee2869 If you can't understand that he was basically telling the RRHoF to kiss his ass, then you are completely clueless. It was pure genius. He prepared a speech which he gave to the RRHoF for the teleprompter but in the end he just said f**k these people who took forever to induct us.
@@pjamesvee2869 Seriously pay attention to Alex's gestures and it will make sense. The long delay was a massive point of contention mainly for Rush fans. Alex's point was that the Hall honored quite questionable choices several years before Rush, and that was only because of serious Rush fans pushing for Rush's induction. Alex honored the fans and frankly not the Hall and the main press which were negative for nearly Rush's entire career.
Probably the hardest working band in rock history in combination of number of albums sold, concerts with attendance, and sheer length of concert time pouring it all out with prepared mastery, endless practice, and absolute triumph of willpower which only a handful of bands even attempted let alone accomplish. Three and a half hour hardcore concerts are literally epic. Led Zeppelin and Bruce Springsteen also come to mind in length also but few others. Neil was literally a scholar and a gentleman of the highest order along with the honor of Alex and Geddy in a fierce synergy which frankly has never been duplicated by others. The words, notes, timber, tone, loudness, intensity, and visual drama that had been Rush could never be ignored by the mainstream forever. Oh, and the guys also laughed with each other through it all. This is sad now in 2020 but more importantly, a glorious human triumph and celebration of such a profound life. RIP Neil Peart
Even if I had not been spellbound by the music of Rush for the last 42 years, even if I were not mourning Neil's passing as if he were a family member despite never having met him, even if I was not now surrounded by their music, I would have no choice but to praise these humble, supremely talented, intelligent, innovative, and very funny men. They took family to another level, valuing honesty and loyalty above all, many may not know that when Rush toured the band offered the crew exactly the same level of accomodation as the band, that when record company and venue execs wanted to wine and dine the band, they insisted the crew came too and when the crew became too big for a restaurant, the band eschewed the bigwigs and ate with the crew. There will never be another Rush. And I am sitting here, a 6'5'', 52 year old man who has been many things, a mountaineer, a bouncer, a karate instructor, have spent 28 years working in the criminal justice system, and I am crying like a teenager over the death of a man I did not know.
Love the subtlety of Neil’s opening remarks - “....the great honor of indicting us....” Indict means to formally accuse of or charge with a serious crime Rush have been charged with the crime making the greatest music.
RIP The Professor. The Best of the Best. Sad to realise we will never see Rush make such fantastic rock music again. The best Rock concert I have ever seen in Rush.
All of us, the adoring Rush fans, have risen from cult following (in my high school I knew of 2, I was one, best friend the other) to recognition and acceptance. Glad to see they finally made it to the Mutual Admiration Society’s Hall of Fame. They should have been there years ago but I guess, without a lot of airplay, they were only half way there. I’m sure their time spent together and the true fans’ adoration mean more to them than something that has to be dusted once a week. Neil, glad you made it before you passed. Go easy bro.
@Jason Heilinger It's funny, but you really could understand everything he said, inc the "F--- you" to the HOF deciders that wouldn't let them in for so long.
@Jason Heilinger You, too. I agree abt the Hall, which is the Rock/Rap/Pop HOF. Alex said they worked hard, flew & otherwise travelled a lot, & mimicked Geddy & Neil & himself. They finally got success. The stern face &voice was the HOF telling them "no" repeatedly, with the response by Rush after numerous denials being "F--- you." So, watch dial spins, time goes by, they keep succeeding. HOF finally calls. Alex is cheerful, gets dressed up, pulls out the paper & blu bluhs thag he could have read from it & cried, but why bother? Instead, he thanked the Boys & then thanked the fans from his heart. Fans cheer.
