Love doing this next level humanization. I usually use the normal Expression Control, with Increments or Random to map to several parameters. Seems to do the same as the Velocity + Exp Legacy setup
The Simpler has some easy randomization too. Just set the LFO to the random waveform and the speed of the LFO all the way to minimum. You can now apply a random percentage to the volume, pitch, filter and panning of each midi note.
Wow Will! Another unique and great tutorial! Discovered your channel couple of weeks ago when you released the sampling techniques video, which also gave a truly fresh perspective, and now this. I've seen alot of tutorials on how to humanize your drums, but in this one, the effort to result ratio is really something! Keep up the great work and thank you!
Dude this is great. Ive been looking for a way to get more out of one shot samples instead of having a multi-sampled drum library. This came just in time. sounds great!
@@WillHatton its extra helpful that these tips come from a drummer btw! i am obsessed with making my drum samples as natural as possible and your tips always help a lot! thank you so much
Incredible video! My only suggestion is to show where you find each other the plug-ins. Only reason I say that is because some of us are still beginners.
I guess this is the best way at all. Glad to have seen that. I think can be improved by shortening the notes in the piano roll to be just a bit offgrid.
Wouldn’t you want to set the vol/vel to zero in the sampler to avoid the velocity midi randomization affecting the volume of playback? Otherwise it would seem that most of what you’re hearing is just randomized velocity rather than the dialed in exp control settings? Also any reason you used exp control legacy rather than the new version?
I think this is my favourite music production video after 10 years of learning from UA-cam
Such high praise, thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Really great stuff, Will. Im really enjoying how much control this method gives you when you're adding variation.
Glad you enjoy it!
This is one of the best tutorials I've watched on YT. Thanks heaps man!

Switched from Fl to Ableton and this has been the best channel for cool things only Ableton can do
Welcome aboard bud! Thanks for the kind words

Just search the terms in the top left under "all"
Devices: Expression Control Legacy, Vocoder, Drum Buss, Erosion, Random, Velocity, Plate Reverb, LFO

never would have thought of using a vocoder for that purpose, there hasn't been a video yet where I leave with out learning!
