The way Ableton sometimes affects the lengths of notes in a groove is still a mystery. Some Groove presets do this, some don't and IIRC when saving a user groove the note lengths are ignored. I don't understand how it works.
From my understanding, Grooves shouldn't affect the length of notes, only their starting position. This would affect the length of the note if it then meant that it created overlaps, but other than that the lengths shouldn't be affects as far as I'm aware.
@@matttinklermusic Thanks Matt. That's how it seems to work if the notes are 'touching' to begin with. As an experiment try cutting a row of full 16th notes in half and then committing a groove eg.'Swing 16th 68.agr' (with everything on 0% apart from Timing). If you repeat the process with even shorter notes the results are length changes again, but different. So it seems the final note lengths are related to their original lengths. It's a shame there isn't a % parameter to control Lengths like we can with Quantise, Timing, Random and Velocity. Sometimes you may not want Ableton to alter note lengths (unless they overlap as you say).
You're totally right! Looks like the final note lengths are basically determined by how long the original note was taken as a percentage of the base time. Definitely would be cool to see a length percentage implemented in the Groove pool!
I have ABL 12 and cannot do any of this, it won't allow me to drage to groove pool I get a circle with an X in it- doesn't work, I have not been able to apply grooves in 12 at all
@@matttinklermusic Yes I don't see the same windows- It doesn't allow me to drag the grooves into the groove pool nor select "commit" in the swap functions. it's not allowing me to drag them in also, I get a circle with an cross through it
When I select all midi notes and select groove swap icon I select a preset groove and double clicking does nothing nor dragging to groove pool does nothing- I won't allow to to drag to new windows... 12.1 version on windows 11

Hm, can you please provide a little more detail on your issues? Grooves work perfectly fine for me in Live 12.

Same function in 11 work with no problems at all, this is a 12 function bug?
If you're following the exact steps on this video then I would report this as a bug to Ableton as I do not have this issue.
Is anyone understand anything here? I don't understand nothing what he say! I think the OP himself don't understand anything.
I'm sorry that you weren't able to understand the video. What specifically are you struggling to understand?
