- Today, we're diving into the lore behind a Secret group of Bio-Augmented Warrior Prophets within the Covenant - the Prelates, one of which was technically present in the background of Halo 2. We're looking at their history, their augmentations, their role within the Covenant, and the life of the only named Prelate in Halo's universe - Tem 'Bhetek - of whom was plagued by nightmares of the Flood consuming his family as they rapidly took over High Charity...

That in lies the problem... Sangheili held too much military influence for the San'shyuum to be comfortable with. So they attempted to even the playing field; providing warriors of *their own race* to fight alongside the elites. How is that inconsistent with what we know of the hierarchy's paranoia?

And he loved his wife so much, he faked documents that he wasn't on the Roll of Celibates ( a list of San'shyuum who weren't allowed to have children ) , while in truth, he was on the list. Also, he knew that the Ussans survived but he didn't tell anyone because he respected them. His name was Mken 'Scre'ah'ben, the Prophet of Inner Conviction.

The Prophet of Restraint's title was the most ironic, since he was a sex-addict and concieved a child with a female San'shyuum in High Charity.

Imagine all the augmentations that the pelates had, but then take an already strong race, say an elite or brute, and give them those augmentations. I feel like an augmented elite would be able to go toe to toe with the chief, considering the times in the lore that the chief was nearly killed by unaugmented members of both species.
A augmented and intelligent brute would be nigh impossible to beat. Imagine Atriox but with prelate like augments.

Horatio Nelson oh I know why the prophets only gave the augments to there own kind, but I’m just imagining the possibilities here. Considering how atriox manhandled 3 Spartans by himself without augments(besides the giant metal arm of his) I can see him destroying entire squads of Spartans quite easily with augments.

I can easily imagine prelates in a halo game functioning like the marauders from doom eternal. Could you imagine how cool it would have been to have fought a prelate before reaching regret in halo 2 knowing that its the same species as old frail grampa regret?
It would be cool! Obviously they’d have to adjust pace to Halo’s to be a bit less chaotic, but new Covies are severely missed

nickyar honestly, I don’t mind the prometheans that much. Engineers? I wouldn’t really classify them as covenant, they’re basically forerunner constructs that were enslaved, skirmishers? I’d like to see them back, same with the drones.
My man yes but instead of waiting for an attack to cause an opening you can use a plasma pistol as well to stun the prelate for a short time while you gun him down and hell move around and dash how the marauders do but will focus more on gunning you down in mid range while slicing at close with hardlight blades so you either gotta stun with a plasma pistol or deal enough damage to the hardlight shield to break it causing him to inject a chemical causing him to go berserk and go full two hardlight sword rush on your ass

My theory on why the Prelates weren't in game is that they were fighting elsewhere on High Charity. That said it'd be awesome to have seen some Prelates defending Truth in Halo 3
Imagine if Halo 3 Anniversary gave us Grunts and Hunters as friendly allies alongside the Elites, and the the enemy Covenant Loyalists would have Skirmishers fighting alongside the Jackals, Brutes and Drones. And the Prelates would replace the Hunters on the enemy faction. Also in the Covenant mission, where you are fighting against the Brutes in the Citadel, the Brutes are replaced by Prelates.
Also imagine if 343 gets Michael Wincott to reprise his role as The High Prophet of Truth in Halo 3 Anniversary.

These guys are the true Covenant Spartans. Someone once made a video called "THE COVENANT VERSIONS OF SPARTANS!!! *LETHAL* !!!" And they were just talking about Elite Fleet admirals, which are just incredibly highly decorated military commanders, not supersoldiers. These Prelates on the other hand, they have been highly trained, highly modified, and can be properly classified as the true Covenant Spartans!
Well, while Elite Fleet admirals aren't supersoldiers, those who became worthy of those ranks were so skilled and genetically gifted that they might as well have been. For example, the Imperial Admiral of the Covenant, who held the highest military rank possible in the Covenant fleet, was a whopping 11 ft tall elite. He was bigger than most brutes, and physically stronger and faster than a lot of them too. He had also never lost a fight. Until a nuke took out his ship. But yeah, being very skilled and genetically gifted isn't the same as a supersoldier.

The silent shadow have a few upgrades and were made to hunt Spartans but prelates are true super soldiers
In Contact Harvest it explains that all San Shyuum are part of registry that has their genetic code due to originally leaving their home world with a low population. It wouldn’t be too much to assume the Minister of Preparation would have unfettered access. Therefore like other parts of San Shyuum culture the Prelates were genetically screens

I always wanted to see more combat San'shyuum. It would make them less one dimensional. Otherwise they are just "evil geniuses of the alien bad guys"
Shadow of Intent would make an amazing game and standalone Halo experience seeing it from the Covenant’s eyes and how they were betrayed and not playing as a Spartan for once
the covenant seem to counter everything the human's make like the plasma repeater is a counter to the assault rifle

Even if the brutes recieved full naval training, it would be still near impossible to beat Elite Shipmasters due to 2 reasons.
1) The Elites have centuries of Naval experience as fleet commanders, something training cant give.
2)Elites are much more calable of thinking outside the box i.e Shipmaster Rtas Vadum and the Arbiter during his Supreme Commander days. So it would be very difficult to destroy an Elite Fleet even if the Brutes had a number advantage.
I mean rtas vadum being outnumbered a historic “3-1” was a feat of its own
They should have made Shadow of Intent a spin-off game, it was really interesting. I miss Rtas 'Vadam....plus if anyone deserves a spinoff game, its him.

He may not be dedicated to Halo at this point, but I have to assume his role as Senior Creative Director for MGS as a whole will give him some significant involvement in the direction of Halo Infinite, if not being somewhat responsible for how good Halo Wars 2 was.

As the prelate and half jaw both exchange words the faintness of the halo 3 paino theme plays only getting louder as the ring slowly explodes.

Loved Shadow of Intent and the concept of the Prelates...as well as the knowledge that there were some honourable San'Shyuum. Broken Circle did well there too.
There are so many amazing things in all your videos and clearly show in this one! Where could I start?
1) Lore. I have watched many Halo youtubers and your are by far my favourite. You cover so many stories, so interesting lore that I could not find anywhere else. Awesome.
2) Video. I love the way you edit the videos so that it actually seems like we are having real footage from the story you are telling. The way you can mix the few scenes available and complement with gameplay or artwork... Wow. Such a great talent.
3) The language. I am a fan of language in general. It is absolutely enjoyable to listen to your writing, the way you tell the story, the intonation you use and the words, that nice vocabulary that makes the difference between an OK story and an inmersive tale.
4) Probably the last one could be the lenght. I am not a big fan of long videos, but with yours time passes by incredibly quickly.

It’s funny you mention this because during the video I realized how good he is with telling stories. He makes me feel totally immersed in the video, if he’s reading from a script then I’d say good job it’s sounds natural and the flow, intonation and everything great.
This makes me think, why didn't truth turn himself into one of them? Clearly he would be physicaly superior to defend himself and could have been an awesome boss fight

This is why I love halo lore, so much depth and heart goes into these stories. It really makes you wish they would make a tv series or movie out of the halo franchise. Gives you something to think about while playing these games and leaves you wanting more.

I have been waiting FOREVER for somebody to make a video about the Prelates
I always imagined the hierarchs secretly formed a joint covert spec ops/hit squad with the sole purpose of hunting down Spartans. Recruiting the deadliest warriors from each covenant race turning them into their own supersoldiers: a brute warlord, a jackal sniper, a grunt demo specialist, a former zealot swordmaster or a silent shadow stealthmaster, veteran pair of hunters like colony in hw2, even an arbiter leading them. A prelate would be a nice addition. They would serve as boss fights too if you ever encountered them in the games.

I love how the human Spartans have become such a legendary threat to the Covenant that they have to put tremendous effort in to possibly countering the Spartans. And still Spartans keep getting more deadly as they continue on.
Rtas 'Vadum honestly is the coolest character from halo. Maybe even one of my favourite characters from any story/game/book/movie! I want a game based on him!

I love your lore vids brother. I am not much for sitting down with a book and digging in for a long read, especially with e-books....as if I'm not staring at a device screen enough hours per day as it is. You've really helped expand my knowledge of the canonical story which had led to my developing greater interest in the stories outside of the games. It definitely adds another layer of depth to have a lot more of the backstory filled in. Perhaps I should try the Audiobook format, I hear it works out nicely to listen to lore books while grinding away gaining at halo 2 Laso. I found some XBOne app which claims that it loads/plays a list of audio files from the root of a USB drive. I've only launched the app once and it told me that nothing can be done or configured unless there exists a USB disk drive. Maybe some app like this would play the audiobooks in the background.......or just get a bluetooth speaker and play it from a smartphone.......IF ya wanna be lazy like that.

This is one of the saddest stories from Halo. Who knew that the prophets actually cared about individuals? (I'm not even gonna attempt to spell this prophets name) loved his family and the people he looked up to straight up betrayed him and told him they didn't care.

Not all Prophets are evil as many people think. Good examples of them are the High Prophet of Tolerance, the High Prophetess of Obligation, the Prophet of Clarity, the Prophet of Inner Conviction and Tem'Bhetek ( the Prelate ).
Prelate: Loses his wife and child because of things out of his control, struggles time and time again in nightmares recurring leading to that moment to stop it and prepare.
I felt that on a spiritual level.
Interesting video, Halo lore is so deep. Yeah Joe has such a creative mind.
