The mystery of the Covenant Fringe (secret members of the Covenant) next?
Leave a like if you wanna see it this week! Major thanks to CIA391 for all the help with this video, definitely would not have been possible without him. Hope you guys enjoy!
It's so interesting man, cheers
Dad :D
Hey Hidden, been watching you for awhile and I always watch while playing Halo. Keep up the good work man, these videos are amazing from the transitions to the information to the concept art and background gameplay. Simply amazing, you and your editors and such are just... awesome.
What if they are the new covenant like group, the left behind ones( the name i have given)
Theory:they were never chosen by the precurses, so they want vengence on the the other races, by helping the flood navigate from time to time so they can be the new rulers of the galaxy, this is just an idea but it would be like the original game play, a group of unknow species team up against the world as wee know it, this would be a prefect recreation of halo CE what do you guys think, do you like this Idea?
Yes! I would love for you to do a video on the Covenant Fringe. And why they weren’t mentioned by Cortana except for the Yohnet.
Omg hiddenxperia I've been waiting for a video like this for a long time
Imagine how terrifying it must have been to travel through dark space only to find a dead galaxy.
Well when you put it that way, it is terrifying .
Dead is definitely worse than non-living
@@SR-wz2iv true
@Dreymon Green
The necromorphs are worse than flood
@@abhinavrajesh2975 debatable
The meddlers were obviously a super-advanced race of ancient Grunts. Not even the Flood could stop them...
In an alternate universe where they won during the great schism
Yap Yap the Destroyer is their leader hidden in disguise. In time he will rule the universe itself.
Nyarthonis lol I imagined grunts in forerunner armor
Yo i eould actually love this to be the case
The flood arnt invading us, theyre running, from them. Just like ancient humanity from the flood
Some of the meddlers could be the Endless. Because of their immunity to the Halo Rings. That could explain why Spark encountered a species that could travel space before all other life couldn’t. And because the forerunners whipped all knowledge of their existence from the galaxy except what’s on Zeta halo. That would also explain why Spark didn’t know what they were.
I feel like bungie and 343 themselves forgot about the meddlers
Bungie had nothing to do with the story of the meddlers. The terminals were made for Halo CE Anniversary after 343i took over.
Fos Kuvol the halo 2 book wasn’t licensed by Bungie?
@@Constance_tinople That was a throwaway line in a story about the Covenant. It was never there to present mystery, and is entirely unrelated to the story of the CEA terminal, which WAS designed to present a mystery. It's the species of the crashed ship where the mystery lies, as it was actually the entire focal point of its own short story. The "others" Guilty Spark speaks of in the conversations were only mentioned to explain why he didn't seem too worried about the Covenant's activities on the ring, not as a topic to be expanded on further.
It's kind of like how there were dozens of species in the Covenant we will never see. It's not a mystery, it's just a statement that was put out there at some point that 343i decided to take advantage of when they made Nightfall. There was one species that WAS presented as a mystery (like the crashed ship), the Sharquoi. A mystery that has yet to be explored.
Keep in mind this is the same community that thought Caveat was some big mysterious species during the Halo 4 development cycle... Because they were too lazy to look up the word caveat and realize that the page was a written caveat of the encyclopedia it was a part of.
Fos Kuvol and you know the writers intentions behind the notes how exactly?
@@Constance_tinople Because of literary structure. Writing is one of the most transparent forms of communication. It's about emphasis.
The emphasis of the note about 343 was on how his decision not to interfere with the Covenant resulted in the release of the Flood. Even if you just look at the sentence that mentions "others" the emphasis is on the fact that everyone else has always just looked around and left, not on the fact that there was anyone else in the first place.
Opposingly, the story in the notes that mentioned the Sharquoi was on the Elites discussing how dangerous an enemy humanity is proving to be. The Sharquoi played into the story as their discussed -solution- to the problem, making their reveal the emphasis and what they are mystery.
It's similar with the crashed ship. The entire story of that terminal was about the ship, and 343's curiosities are an analogue of the viewer. The writer of the story is telling us, through 343's monologue, to find the mystery of the ship interesting and important.

I never even heard about the Meddlers before. You go deep into Halo's lore man. I thought I knew a lot about Halo lore, but damn, you got me beat by a landslide. I learned so much from your videos. I like your last theory the most. We know about the Precursors, and we know about the Forerunners. This is all too obscure to be one of the 2 well known species. My guess is that they're from another galaxy as well. I would like that a lot. If they're the guys who escaped a Forerunner prison, then they're definitely formiddable.
If you played halo 2, yes you did.
@@FBI-ju5no I played Halo 2 religiously. It's still my all time favorite shooter (if not all time favorite game).

I meant that if you had played halo 2, you have heard of the meddlers.
@@FBI-ju5no Again, I've played Halo 2 religiously, but I never heard of the Meddlers. Even the guy said that he made up the name and that they're too obscure to make any kind of statement about them. Stop pretending like they're common knowledge, because they're not. I hate it when people do that. It's like saying "how can you not remember that character that played a 1 minute guest role in season 2 of a TV show that is in its 15th season".

During Infinite, I first thought the endless were the Precursors. But I figured they weren’t, then I started guessing they are the meddlers. I think I am right
This should pretty much be fact now. The endless arrived after the halo firing, so it HAS TO BE them :D
Aren’t the endless immune to the halos so if they got infected by the flood they would become an immune flood which would totally not be good
@@testtickles8878 well the halo rings destroy anything with a central nervous system and since they survived the firing somehow they must not have one and that's what the flood uses pretty much to infect so in a sense I feel like the endless should be immune to both the rings and the flood
It was reconned to confirm you are right.
@@testtickles8878if they’re immune to the halos, they’re immune to the flood. in order to be a host for the flood, you need to have a nervous system. the halos were designed to kill anyone who had a nervous system, so those who survived were also immune to the flood
I think the “endless” sent out harbingers to multiple halo’s given as though they don’t know which halo is holding their people in the crypt. Also give how the harbinger in halo killed the monitor, I’m not surprised guilty spark was afraid when they returned to his ring.

@@kaizermengele6669 Installation 00 is another, although he's way more technical and scientific
@@Stuntmachine14
Installation00 is really good. He goes super deep into all the Lore too but he does look more into the technical aspects like EckhartsLadder.
What if the Meddlers saw the firing of the Halo array millions or billions of lightyears away from another galaxy? They could have possibly seen the pulse and could have decided to go and investigate it, thus why they landed on Halo and possibly other Forerunner installations.
A scary thought is through their findings and with proper research, what if they tried to make a Halo of their own? Now that's a truly terrifying thought
They probably learned the history of the rise of the flood and just said "yeah fuck this place" then never came back
Wouldn't be possible. a lightyear is how far light travels in a year. the array was fired less than 300,000 years ago, and the nearest galaxy, Andromeda, is several million away
Doodsalot270 this is fucking Halo a video game where anything could happen. Species aren’t bound to real life rules, especially Aliens. If they can’t come from another galaxy than why can species travel so fast with slip space through star systems by ripping space time itself? FFS their could have been species from Ic1101 Damit, the largest Galaxy to date in real life. They could have developed a way to go through a portal or a wormhole.
I’m gonna go nuts if I have to tell people this is a game again.
Maybe it was the fleeing precursors who saw it. When they came back they detected traces of others. Thinking they were prisoners, they tried to free them, but ended up finding the flood
@@doodsalot270 That's not how the halo array worked, pretty sure it's been stated that when fired it's pulsation traversed a length greater than a light year a second. That being said the Milky Way is hundreds of thousands of light years in diameter. Don't think that the Forerunners would wait hundreds of thousands of years for the galaxy to be cleansed giving the Flood far more than enough time to run away.
Did he just exclude the grunts out of the technology capable species list? 8:17
Their high level of understanding of the universe puts them above all classification
He probably just forgot. They had reached the early space faring age when the Halo Array fired.
Grim Oeuvre maybe because when they were first encountered by the covenant they lacked the ability for space travel?
@@theluftwaffle1 The grunt technology could've been wiped out by the Forerunners because they were threatened by their immense intelligence
Clearly species-ist, smh time for another grunt revolt for respect!
Nah, man they definitely xenomorphs and yautjas👌🏻
Yep
You know this would be completely in character for the Yautja. They just land on Installation 04 and start chucking Xenomorphs everywhere to hunt, all the while 343 Guilty Spark just sits there wondering why the hell they are doing this. At some point he Flood gets out, and that's when he sterilizes everything and takes some of the Predators and Xenos for study.
Could happen but...can xenon be infected...predators defiantly can and can face huggers impregnate flood combat forms.

A halo equivalent of the yuuzhan vong would be an interesting concept
Would you consider the flood to be that equivalent?
@@consciousawakening4799 sort of but not entirely . If the flood had a culture sentience ( grave mind excluded) maybe .
@@consciousawakening4799 nah
Nice to see someone reference them in this Halo channel.
What if the Meddlers, after causing the outbreak on Delta Halo, got infected and absorbed into the gravemind? Think about it, if there were only animals and other wildlife on the ring, how did an intelligent gravemind form? It would surely need sapient species to form a proto-gravemind, like Keyes in Halo CE.
well the grave mind seen in halo 2 took control of delta halos monitor but that is a fair point i dont think one monitor being the only intelligent thing on the ring would be enough to fuel a grave mind
@@kyza6463 don't graveminds harbor the knowledge of previous graveminds?

POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR HALO INFINITE
I'm coming back to this from halo infinite and I think The Endless could be these meddlers
Someone mentioned this today and and I hadn't heard of it before, so after doing some research I'm wondering if it could be the Endless. If maybe the forerunners thought they locked all the Endless up, but perhaps there were a few ships that escaped, and they were going to these Halo rings searching for their imprisoned species.
I hope we hear about them, if they're one extra galactic species, in Infinite (possibly even an ally in future games when the flood return)
Also, Halopedia is my 3rd source for Halo knowledge. First is you, second is Halo Canon
Well. You got what you wanted.
Only meddlers i see is the team that made the halo 5 item packs
True meddlers those
Let’s throw them over and get Bungie back
bungie isnr better then 343 nowadays
DcTbigkiller30 Um your joking right?
@@DcTbigkiller30 Bungie and 343 aren't the problem. Microsoft and Activision are. They're the ones who make all the money and care about cash over content. Bungie said they left microsoft because they didn't give them enough freedom. Unfortunately Activision wasn't much better and 343i basically became Microsoft's bitch after Bungie.
I believe the Oracle mentions the Meddlers slightly in Halo 3 on the mission Ark, right before the ending of the mission
He calls the covenant loyalists “meddlers” as they are meddling with the ark and stuff.
The Meddlers could be time travellers.
Why would these Meddlers be time travellers? Well, think about it.
Every instance or place they have been has been just in the nick of time, at the right moment or had a knock-on effect. It kept 343 guilty spark from going insane before anyone arrived.

What if its the precursors that colonized another galaxy? They could be a peaceful people that successfully re-created themself from the dust spores and didn't wish to be apart of the flood. Now they come back to watch their creations do work and try to stop the rings, flood etc.
Supreme Coctus thank you for someone saying it. Surprised you haven’t gotten any other replies
Maybe they actually wanted to help the flood thus leading to them releasing them on delta halo.
Possible but I don't think
Okay so they dont want to be part of the flood so why would they release them?
I think halo Infinite might have given us our answer
The endless :0
They're called the Endless now.
Funny this video is now recommended to me a few days after infinite came out. It's pretty much fact that the endless are the meddlers described in this video.
Hopefully this will return the mysterious to the halo franchise that made the original series so nostalgic😊👍🏻
Halo 4 had that sense of mystery to it, reminding me of CE
Mister Asylum true😊👍🏻
Yaeh the forerunners a flood aren't very mysterious anymore :/
jonathan cause halo 4 ruined the mysteriousness
Precursors are still a mystery.
I have 2 theories.
1: Time travel
2: A species that came from another galaxy that was interested in the Halo rings. They recorded what they saw maybe attacked the moniters and left. Maybe to help their galaxy or they saw what happened and went to investigate.
Update 2 years later. The mysterious character on Halo infinite is if not a precursor then at very least from the aforementioned meddler species. She hates the forerunners. Might explain why spark was willing to destroy the autumn.... Feeling seems mutual.
Oh man yess maybe the punished are the meddlers
And that spark the new one looks so different woww and those new skimmer creatures woww mann
I think the endless are very likely the medlers
@@extra4594 I think so too
I was always confused by all of the terminals in HALO anniversary.
Glad to see everyone else was too.
I did get the delta halo references about Tangent not calling or the gas giant level in HALO 2.
Brining this back from the dead. These are the remnants of the endless before they are imprisoned.
It’d be cool to see the Meddlers play a significant role in Halo Infinite.
6:40 I think I heard somewhere that is actually where the primordial was held before it was released by the activation of alpha halo during its testing.
These Meddlers could be the Xalanyn or Endless from Halo Infinite because the lore suggests that some of them escaped to avoid imprisonment by the Forerunners on Zeta Halo.
Its so cool how there are still creatures we haven't encountered yet
Harbinger?
Yess mabyeeee the punished are the meddlers I hope I'm so hyped omggg
It’s obviously the G Man. Half Life Infinite confirmed.
The actual explanation for g-man is really cool, though
50 yrs from now people will look back at this post and think wow this guy was ahead of the times. All games lead to HL3
11:15 the issue I have with this theory is that the ship the "Meddlers" crashed with on Alpha Halo had gas that biologically matched the ring's environment, so unless something in another galaxy somehow managed to produce a gas with the exact same compounds as Installation 04, I doubt it was something from a neighboring galaxy.
Other than that, awesome video as always!
It's not as unlikely as you might think. There's no reason life from another galaxy would be more alien than life from a different star system; it's farther away, but that doesn't mean the conditions are somehow different. Stars are the same, space is the same, chemistry is the same, and the laws of physics are the same.
@@sherlockhooves574 not to mention gases in space are the same. There's no guarantee that other galaxies would have more exotic compounds or substances than we already know about. We don't know what we don't know, but we do know what we do know
The endless are the meddlers
Perhaps the Meddlers were/are fighting flood in their own galaxy and were/are looking for places to run because they were/are losing.
The theory is extremely possible, since the Flood was hinted to have expanded in small numbers outside of the Milky Way galaxy, further into the Large Magellenic Cloud (Path Kethona), as did the Forerunners who escaped the firing of the Halo Array. With that in mind, it's also likely the Flood could have survived and started finding lesser lifeforms to consume. I think this is a possible theory as to how the Flood could return through Cortana using the Guardians to stop all technologically advanced species from fending off from a large Flood force invading and consuming life in our galaxy once more via Logic Plague. :)
Dylan Thompson plus the flood are still around on the ark in high charities remains.
An interesting point, however the flood was unleashed intentionally in the Milky Way as punishment to forerunners betrayal. Can we really expect that a small amount of flood escaped the galaxy after the initial firing and managed to travel millions of light years to another galaxy and build up to a tyrannical force. I doubt it. Too much distance and time involved in this theory.
I believe the meddlers are precursor of sorts. Since they are near god like it makes sense they would come back after the firing in subtle ways to finish their punishment
I would love the Meddlers to be aliens from other galaxies that have been taken over by a massive Flood force, and we have to either prepare to fight them, or take the fight to them. Halo began with the Flood, Halo should continue and end with them as well.
Do we know how a Gravemind managed to form on 05? It had been there a _while_ as the Flood zone was contained with the Sentinel Wall, but someone must've released the Flood and been mulched for their trouble to let things get this far?
Nice video! Seems like you missed Grunts (Unggoy) on your list of technologically capable species though.
They're not.
They were uplifted (sorta) by the Covenant, can barely gather enough information over their lives to become a preacher in their grey years, and don't even want to be in the covenant.
They need a few more million years of evolution before they can start getting organized on their own.
8:24 What about our smol bois, the Grunts? They were technologically capable before the firing of the rings.
Shield sound for "baseless speculation ahead" warning is just golden. That was so great! Hahaha
I like the Precursor idea. It's an easy and fascinating way to introduce them into the games as either plot points or a new enemy faction.
To think, TO THINK, I wouldn’t know what the meddlers were before this video, and I call myself a “true halo fan” lmao
You should do a short series about your perfect Halo Military. Any modern faction, from the Insurrection Wars to the Created Uprising. Army, Marines, Starfighter/Air-force Corp., & Space Navy.
Well the marines and odst are about all we see in halo games
He'd have to go with a Covenant navy, for sure. The Covenant had the more effective navy.
Would love a video to bring this topic back to life, Considering 343 basically did massive amounts of digging in old forgotten halo lore, I wouldn't be suprised at all if the Harbinger and or Endless are the meddlers.

I have a theory, something possibly terrifying. Back in the Forerunner Flood war, some Flood hijacked power space craft like the forerunners and due to their combined intelligence, may have sent some of them outside of the galaxy to escape the Halo’s range. Possibly even encountering another galaxy with no powerful defense like a halo to save them. And now they sit out there dormant in space, possibly with the knowledge from the past Gravemind. And one day they will return, in massive numbers through slip-space, like the moment from Reach when the full covenant forces arrived, but instead being full of flood.

Addendum: Its profile matches that of Sovereign if he got half of his stern hull blown off (the long part on the end opposite the "Legs")
Thanks so much for making this video!
Unpopular opinion All the main line halo games are really fun even 4 and 5. They all have good stories except 5.
Halo 4 with Cortana's mood swings felt... Cumbersome. Halos 1-3 and odst were awesome and reach wasn't too bad either
i agree dude
All of them had good stories up until 5. 5 had a dumpster fire story.
My theory is, these are ancient ships from the forerunner and flood war. Millions of these ships were left floating in space and crashed into places as they slowly drifted forgotten in time.
Then why didn't guilty spark recognise it as forerunner?
@@nihilityjoey because the flood consumed more than just the forerunner species. additionally guilty spark does not know all aspects of his species. so it is very possible the ship was above his knowledge classification.
I have ALWAYS wanted to know more about that ship! That part of the lore has always been such a mystery! Thanks for this video...😉
A new species would be awsome to encounter to be honest,
You dig really deep into halo lore and that's why you deserve more subs
The Meddlers are actually the same race as The Harbinger from Halo Infinite.
Actually, I would love to see a Forerunner faction return to the Milky Way, and make their own version of "Reclamation" over the Galaxy.
Huh, Reclamation
Big plot twist, they're scouts from an oncoming invasion that Cortana emping Everyone makes us suddenly incredibly vulnerable to.
I've been waiting for this ❤️
