Titanus DOUG is unquestionably one of the most hilarious yet popular aspects with regards to the Monsterverse . He has been a meme material and social media sensation ever since he first appeared in Godzilla vs Kong 2021 . He also briefly appeared in the latest monsterverse Movie , “Godzilla x kong : THE NEW EMPIRE” . But doug might have a bigger role to play than just being a cute and adorable meme material within the Monsterverse . As a matter of fact , He might have a weird connection to the 1998 Godzilla Movie which is what I am going to discuss in this video . This video is going to contain the following subtopics :

98 Godzilla was a fun film and had great acting/story. It's not that bad of a monster movie.
It was decent . He just wasn’t Godzilla. If they changed name of the film I think it would have been received much better
That movie only gets shit cause it was suppose to be Godzilla. If it has any other title it would've been better received and only talked down about being a bootleg Godzilla which is what is basically was anyways
well it was bad for godzilla movie but if they introduced zilla as some relative species of godzilla then imo zilla would liked way more
It was a re-imagining. I think fans just take it too seriously. It wasn't meant to be a continuation of the classics. It was a new take on Godzilla at the time.
I choose to love and not blame the monster, however the directors philosophy and malice to the original godzilla is unforgivable

Brilliant idea. Zilla Jr in the animated series was much loved and accepted more worthy of the Godzilla title. Mixing those two for Doug to become would be amazing. Apex trying to create their own Godzilla.

@@kennethsatria6607 True, but I think calling it Godzilla isn't quite right. The Godzilla I know didn't spend most of a movie running away from the military. Yeah there were a few times where this Godzilla fought the military, but that was like twice in the whole movie, once when Zilla used that firebreath, and the other vs the 4 helicopters which were running away.

Godzilla 98 was my first Godzilla movie. Hell i still live this movie. I have never hated this movie..

Sadly, Toho popped in to tell them to retcon any and all references to Godzilla being part of a species. He stands as a singular entity. Now, Doug growing into something like *Zilla,* assuming it's not any kind of actual genetic relative of Godzilla's, might still fly.

And it's great that Toho is keeping order in its franchise. They drew lessons from the 1990s.
They should draw lessons from the Monsterverse, which is what’s keeping Godzilla relevant after reviving the franchise back in 2014.

This actually sounds like a great idea and I would love for this to happen which may also give our friend her Doug even more screen time for us to see him and also possibly give him a bigger role most likely being an affiliate to Kong as that's who was with for his screen time in GXK

Good for you finding Godzilla in recent years. I saw all the old movies when they were 50 cent or $1 rentals on vhs as a kid. That was the glory days for old monster movies I think (the cheap rental)
Though even this will probably not happen, I love this theory, because I think zilla could be perfect in the monsterverse
1998 godzilla was my first introduction to godzilla so seeing him coming back in the Monstersverse has a ally or rival would be nice
Also godzilla the animated series, made zilla Jr way more powerful then the original would be nice if some of the ability would carry over

Godzilla's family seems to radiate an awful lot into various niches within Hollow Earth. We see some skeletons that look like Godzilla on a larger scale which may indicate a more primitive although a more apex Titan, Doug which seems to be the stem species in which Godzilla's other species radiated from and the argument could be made that Shimo is related to Godzilla as they are a similar size, build and share a distinct similarity in how their powers are used. It isn't out of the question that some of Godzilla's distant cousins evolved to be smaller and lighter in build but twice as fast and may even have a diverse social structure which leaves them with the potential to form packs. I can see that being a pretty good representation and explanation for Zilla in the Monsterverse.

There are more Titanus Doug species than just only one in the Monsterverse. Maybe some of them are already further in their growing stage evolution and maybe one of them is already fully grown as the 1998 Zilla. I would love to see Zilla back as Godzilla's sub family species like Shimu is as a redemption. Godzilla has atomic breath, Shimu has ice breath and for Doug Zilla they can give him fire breath or something similar like Godzilla himself. Every sub species of Godzilla will have their own elemental breath they fire.
I love that 1998 movie. And the trailers leading to it. Too bad I lose my giant poster I forced my family to have nasty cereal to grab the 8 or so A4 pieces to combine into a super poster.

98 Godzilla wasn't as terrible as people make it out to be, it just had the wrong name. If it had any name other than Godzilla it would have just been another above average monster movie
Or a post credit scene. That after they dump the corpse somewhere, probably the Mariana Trench, to crush its body with water pressure, Zilla's eyes suddenly opens and the screen goes black.
I loved that movie as a kid. And later learned afterward that Godzilla wasn't supposed to be that weak.

I'm very fond of Zilla, and I still find the film quite funny. I really like the cartoon it later inspired. The designs of the monsters in it are really inspired.

I always had the idea of people taking many animals and experimenting with titan dna and trying to make controllable false titans/mutants. A bunch of marine iguanas mutated with godzilla DNA to make a swarm of zillas, all freakish looking and acts like raptors. With the leader of the pack looking the most like Zilla and the most aggressive. A bunch of eggs in many nest and at the end when all eggs and zillas are destroyed one egg is found by someone, it hatches and imprints on that person thus giving us a Zilla Jr in the monsterverse in the same vain as Godzilla the series.
He will evolve at level 30. Just make it very happy and it will evolve

I actually prefer Dougs evolve into Legendary Godzillas, saves on paying licenses for Minilla or G. Jr. Plus the theme of the Monsterverse is nature yes Godzilla and Dagon were the last of their kind on the surface. Dougs can become them if the food/radiation is there, and he's already being marketed alongside Suko(Kongs replacement). Doug will become Godzilla.

I'd love for Zilla to show up in the monsterverse! But Toho, unfortunately, as of April 2021 removed the trademark for the name "Zilla" outside of Japan, meaning that Toho no longer has exclusive rights to the name in the US, or other, markets only the character model.
Although Toho did license the character to Spiral Studios in 2023 for a 124 cm statue, which is still labeled as "Zilla". So maybe Toho will still allow the use of the name "Zilla" for merchandise based on the 1998 film, as long as the monsters are considered identical outside of name?
I assume going forward anytime the Godzilla 1998/Zilla character model appears in media it will be called Zilla as I doubt it would be called Godzilla. But if Toho released the rights to the name in the US can Legendary even lisence the name? If they just licenced the character would they call it Doug, Zilla, Dougzilla or something else? 😂
