Ford F250 Super Duty 6.7 Diesel hauling 14,000 lbs hilly terrain

- This will be my biggest towing mission so far with my 'new to me' 2013 Ford F250 Super duty, with the 6.7 Powerstroke Diesel motor and HD towing package. I'll be towing our Bobcat e42 mini excavator, with an additional counter weight, and bucket on the equipment trailer so it will be very near 14,000 pounds. First we'll do some testing on loose gravel, uphill from a stop and see how that goes. Then we'll tackle some steep and hilly terrain, test out the engine braking and uphill power and traction. We'll also see how the F250 Super Duty handles curves, while in hilly terrain. And then the last test will be the highway test at 70 mph + and punching it to pass an oversized semi load. Overall, my review of this F250 is that it is an incredibly powerful, yet comfortable towing truck! I'm glad that I finally found the right towing truck for our needs here at Kapper Outdoors. We do quite a bit of towing between our Kentucky farm and our Illinois farm, and the F250 does the job! Kap, your video is right on time. I borrowed a 20 foot trailer to haul my tractor from an old Devil-Dog and I just bought some chains and binders to fasten things down. I've never taken my tractor off the land but this will be the first time and I'm feeling a bit antsy. I've hauled a lot of different things but this is a first for the tractor. I'm using my F150 4x4 and it should do the job. I will be driving town roads; not on the highway. So your video is priming me up for the big road test, ha. Thanks man.
I have a 2013 F250 with a 6.7 myself. I have airbags on mine. Makes driving with a load much nicer. Easily maintain factory ride height with some massive loads. I'd love to have a small excavator like yours someday. You have a nice trailer too. I'm shopping for a new one now. Thinking about a gooseneck since the prices are so close together. Was helpful watching this video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man, yeah I wish I had got this Ford long ago!!! Tows like a dream and beast like power!! Good luck!
Once you drive a diesel, you will never go back to a gas truck.
He had a diesel before his gas f150 ecoboost, so he did switch from diesel to gas when he got the f150 and then back to diesel again.
or you go right back
Nice job working that 6.7. Coming from a 7.3 power stroke i love the power the 6.7 has. Night and day
Very nice. That's a sweet truck you traded for.👍🏻👍🏻
Hello kapper the old Fords will pull down a house with my experience breaking is the biggest problem so please be careful and keep your distance between you and the car in front of you all that comfort can make you forget about stopping God bless brother take care
Truck does a good job towing!
That's a fine rig! I have a 2012 F250 with the 6.2 gas, and I'm pretty impressed. I've nothing but good things about the 6.7L. Great power plant!
Thanks man, agreed! Great trucks
I looked at that same set up but came across a 2001 F350 dually with the v10 for $5k. Runs great and just couldn’t pass up such a good deal. I tested it pulling a Tak tb240 recently and it did great. Not as heavy as yours but I think when I get my e35 I should be golden. Great video. 👍
Hey, you can't pass up a great deal when you come across one! Been there before! Best of luck with the new/used F350!! They are awesome trucks!
Nice Excavator one day I will get myself one looks like it’s doing a great job
Do U mean excavator?
Smoooooth ride, baby! 😆 thanks for the vid, real helpful!
Really loving the Super Duty diesel! Just hauled the mini excavator today! Cheers!
Joe That road trip would be a great video
I knew you would be happy with a diesel!!
For sure!
Degrees of angle aren’t equivalent to percentage of grade. I wish the dash would read in percentage vs. degrees; it would be more useful for the majority of people.
Yeah it's confusing sometimes because some of the road signs are actually in degrees and some are in percentages, go figure
Impressive vehicle!
Very cool!
Nice truck be careful out there.👊
You should see about getting chains and binders
Very nice!!! The best way for me to see what it'll do is ride in it . So, while I'm riding in it we can go get the used 10ft Titan brushog I just bought and haul it to my farm. Dont worry, I'll provide a couple gallons fuel.
Sure thing, we need to do a road trip!
She hauls it like she own the road. Just be careful if the roads get icy.
Did anyone know Kapper has a Ford Super Duty......lol.....
Joe how long do we have to wait on that deer video?
Hey Joe do you use torsion bars on your setup?
Are you under 26,000 with that setup or do you need a CDL?
I needed to get a CDL. I recently posted that video if you want to check it out about a week ago.
Next you'll need a 1 ton ;)
Do you have the 2 inch or 2.5 inch reciever box? Do you think you are overloading as far as tongue weight? I think the 2 inch is rated at 500lns and the 2.5 at 800 without weight distribution? I have been pulling a 5rh wheel camper but am downsizing to a traditional bumper pull and trying to wrap my head around what I can pull. I'm looking at about 10k lb trailer and not sure if I need weight distribution hitch. I have an 11 f350 6.7 with 2.5 inch box reciever
I have the 2.5 inch receiver. I am also going to look at installing the weight distribution kit to be safe. Wish they'd have some more clearer guidance on this stuff. Thanks and best of luck.
If your spinning not enough weight on the hitch.
I don't buy that. I have towed more weight than that and had a lot of weight on the tongue and still spun. There are lots of factors like compaction of the road surface, size of rocks, width of tires etc. Plus a diesel has a ton more torque. My Cummins will spin going around a corner at idle just because of the torque.
@@garycrumrine9538 My 6.7 Powerstroke takes a mile to get traction in the rain. lol
Brad F Wouldn’t have anything to do with a truck with lots of torque in 2wd without the differential locked pulling up hill on a loose surface, would it? 🤦♂️
What model PJ trailer are you using?
Don't recall I have upgraded since then.
you may want to use chains on your loads.
What is the GVWR if your F250?
10k I just posted a video about my new trailer setup and my class A cdl.
I read the towing capacity is only like 10,000 lbs for these things. Is that true? What’s your guy’s experience I’m kinda worried because I just bought a two car trailer and with two cars I’m well over 10k probably like 12-14 with heavy cars I have a 2010 with a 6.4 engine, fully deleted emissions.
When I was buying I had them look up specs and I think they said like 21k towing capacity for the Super Duty.
Owners manual for mine says 23,500.
Nice truck, going to trade my f150 eco screw for an aluminum f250 though next year , I'm in the salt belt Ohio area
Just a personal observation I would have put the bobcat a little further forward on the trailer, watching it towing from the outside the trailer just on the balance point and think you perhaps need a little more weight on the tow hitch 👍👍👍
Supposed to have 15% of your load on the hitch on a bumper hitch. His looks plenty good enough based on the squat. You need 25% of your load on the hitch with a fifth wheel or gooseneck in case you're curious.
Joe, did you have to get a CDL to be able to tow that load around all the time?
Cdl is necessary for 26000total and up. That is a total in combination with truck, load, trailer, and excavator all combined. In short, over 26000 and your gettin tickets, period.
@@bwilkinson6901 yeah, but I thought any load that is towed over the weight of 10,000 pounds required a CDL.
@@ohhpaul7364 nope. 26000 gross and up
Ohh Paul Nope.
@@ohhpaul7364 No that's a misconception. That's only if you are driving a Class B vehicle, than it can't be over 10.000.
Poor traction due to machine position and it's on backwards
But it's a Ford
Better than the alternative
Good truck, great trailer but junk construction equipment.
That bobcat e42 has been a beast..
Air bags and delete that rig
Electronic 4 wheel drive = Garbage
Has worked quite well for me thus far!
