If you've only lost 16lb, but almost 3 sizes, you're definitely adding muscle and improving fitness. A rule of thumb for most women is 10lb = 1 clothing size, unless you're adding muscle. So be proud! Your 16lb loss is like a 30lb loss! And doing it as you approach menopause which is harder. Bravo!

I lost 70 pounds in one year going from 200 pounds to 130 using intermittent fasting and walking. Every night I walked for roughly 2 hours. My eating window was between 11: 00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I still ate things I liked but with common sense. This really does work!

ONLY 16 pound!??!? Losing 16 pounds in a year in a healthy sensible way is fantastic!!! 😁😁 You’ve changed your relationship with exercise, food, and how you view your body! That’s massive! Your doing so well! And I love how you are modelling this for your kids (especially your daughter) in a healthy way! Keep up the good work!

I've been intermittent fasting on and off since 2018. I really committed to it in 2019 and lost 25 lbs and got off insulin. I love it and it's amazing, and it's easy compared to any diet I've been on.

Another positive side effect of exercise, better food options and proper sleep is mental health. I know you lost your brother and i lost my son this past December unexpectedly. For a long time I've started my day with yoga and have tried to have a decent diet. Not perfect, i indulge sometimes but decent. I have found keeping good habits like those in my life have helped with my emotions and moving through the last 5 months. Love your channel. I look forward to all your uploads.

Thank you for sharing! I am pushing 60 and my body is feeling it. I really needed this encouragement to learn intermittent fasting and push through. I told my hubby last night that I would like to just lose a pound a month for the next 3 years. Wouldn't that be monumental? I realize I need to work toward energy and feeling better instead of weight loss! I continue to pray for you and your mom! Lots of firsts without your dear brother. Big hugs! 🙏❤️🙏

I have Noom and I’ve finished the program. I have the extra wrinkle of having an endocrine disorder (PCOS), which keeps me from losing weight. My coach, Julia, is excellent and so encouraging. I haven’t deliberately tried IF, but I find that I tend to not be hungry until noon. I crash around 4 PM, but I’m a teacher, so the kids run me around quite a bit. I retired in 2021, two goals in retirement were to lose weight and declutter my house and 20x10 storage shed. Me, my house and storage shed were all "stuffed". I also joined Noom and at the age of 71 1/2, I went from 271 to 199 today. My goal is 140 so I still have a way to go. But going from size 26/28 to 16 has been such a blessing. I feel so much better. I am going to try the intermittent fasting (11 to 7) since I have always been a late night snacker. I can't walk so the IF may just be the key.
Also, I have been trying to declutter (borderline hoarder). So much stuff and being older and doing it by myself has been hard but every day I get rid of a container full of stuff. Mostly new items I never used but finally said, I'm setting the stuff free and donating to others.
I really thank you for being brave enough to let us go with you on your journey. Your daughter especially is going to reap the benefits of your wisdom. Well done and blessings to you and your loved ones.

I'm so happy that this worked for you. It stopped working for me around month 9. I plateaued for like 6 months and started keto to get off the plateau and gave it up. Had blood work done and found out my testosterone was extremely low. So now I'm working on that but I got so discouraged by how hard I was trying and not seeing the scale go down. It went up and down so much. In all I've lost 30 lbs in a year. And 1.75 pants sizes lol. But I'm just tired of the struggle honestly. Idk where I'll go from here. I felt like I starved myself at times and still didn't get results like I wanted. I'm proud of you for not giving up!

    • @Cali_Flowers

Hello! Instead of starving yourself, please try prepping simple, non-processed foods. I ended up going on a whole foods diet ~ a variety of vegetables, good fats, dairy, protein, non-gluten starch (like potatoes, beans, rice, polenta, quinoa, oats, popcorn), fruit. Turns out I have a wheat allergy, so I went GF ~ but eliminating processed wheat products was a real lesson for me in their role in fattening us all up! Cautiously adding more veggies, good fats, trying new foods, filled me up while losing weight. I lost 60 pounds & 5 dress sizes in about a year and a quarter! But honestly, losing weight that fast was a bit scary for me, because I never had before ~ but my doctor was confident about it and helped me through my doubts. So, please don’t give up! See if your ins covers a nutritionist to help and motivate you - as they & your PCP can even sometimes suss out if you feel weird or starving because you aren’t eating a good balance or enough nutrients or a vitamin. It should never be about starving, but being satisfied, fueled & happy! You just might be surprised how much healthy food a person should eat per day! 😋 Whatever changes you try, the adjustment can be long ~ please don’t be too hard on yourself. Good health isn’t a race & we all do things differently 🤗💞

Try some weight training. The downside of IF is muscle loss and rebuilding some muscle will help increase your metabolism and make everything leaner.Remember muscle is heavier than fat so don’t worry about the scales too much, just focus on muscle building and this may help with your long plateau as a mid-mission jump start.

You are an inspiration! When I was discouraged about weight loss in the past, especially when going through periods of losing very small amounts, I was encouraged to visualize sticks of butter. One stick equals 1/4 pound. Picture 16 packages of butter...that's what 16 pounds looks like. Keep up the good work!

Erica, I have been watching your channel since you first started decluttering. You have come so far in so many ways! I'm so happy for you!!!!!!!! 😁
I have been doing intermittent fasting for over 18 months now and have lost a lot of weight. Unfortunately I haven't been physically capable of exercising for a good amount of that time due to the virus 'that shall not be named' triggering the reactivation of another virus. I, like you, break the time restriction rules on a regular basis. In the beginning I struggled with certain treat type foods and I would enjoy those things one meal a week usually on the weekend. My philosophy is that our bodies developed for cycles of fasting and times of feasting. Too long of a fasting cycle can make our bodies think there is a famine and it reacts accordingly. Feasting, healthily (ish) let's it know the food supply is sufficient. Also, sometimes I prioritize enjoying holidays or special events more than sticking to strict time limits on my eating. I have tried to focus on eating nutritionally dense foods most of the time. I have learned that when I try to be too strict with myself I rebel. It's rather silly but it seems my inner child is a bit of a brat sometimes. 😄 Hey, it works for me.
I'm amazed from your before to after photos that your body has completely reshaped itself and you look so much stronger and healthier. You should be so proud of yourself!! Not because of how you look but for making your own health and energy and strength and nourishment priorities. It's so easy to prioritize your family's needs before your own but you really do need to prioritize your own care or you run out of energy to care for others in the way you want to. I've been through it myself when my children were young. I know this is very long but this video just touched my heart. Many blessings to you and your family💗🙏
(And thanks for reminding me that a 5 minute walk counts. I really needed to hear that today!)

I'm truly happy for you. It does make me a tad angry that most of us have to figure all this diet, eating, sugar, complex carb crap out at 40. Why don't we teach our kids about sugar absorbtion and what it does to us physically in school? Just one of my pet peeves another one is money management....schools don't teach that either. They teach the food pyramid, which is a lie.....I could go on, but I won't.

Erica, losing any weight and not gaining weight is a triumphant win. Don't beat yourself up when you're doing well. You had a big life change when your brother passed and that impacts how we feel and look differently at what life throws our way. The fact that you're able to keep going even while feeling a tug at your heart strings, says that you are coping with loss and still able to do all that you need to, to keep going. You're doing a great job in so many areas of your life and we can see your accomplishments. Thanks for sharing with us and keep moving forward. You can do this !! Never stop trying to reach goals that make you feel better about yourself and enjoying your family.

You never cease to amaze me. You are such a great Inspirational speaker. This was the most healthiest way to talk about weight loss. First you look amazing, it’s so noticeable in your videos, you have a pep in your step, you look so wonderful… I agree we have to live a lifestyle we can actually LIVE with. You are so right about showing not to focus on being thin and being a model to your daughter. You should eat ice cream, and have some cream in your coffee, but still we can eat healthy at the same time.
I recently lost 8 lbs, by eating the right foods and food portions… my worst time of day for me was in the early evening around 8 pm… so I have made little portions of a healthy snack, I eat it slowly and when it’s gone I’m done for the day. I also upped my water intake… I eat lots of vegetables to fill me up, and the side portion is beans, lentils, yams, whole grains. I am vegan…
my clothes are looking good on me again, and I feel more comfortable in them. Would love to lose another 10 lbs and I am sure I will, we just have to give ourselves grace in doing so

I recently committed to downsizing the amount of coffee I was drinking and invested in a cute water bottle to drink from. I remember how dry my skin feels in the morning and it inspires me to splash water on my face and drink water. I am currently making puree food for my baby and he has already inspired me to cook aubergine which I have never cooked or eaten before. Next, we plan on another vegetable I have never cooked or tried. Both of them are also saving me money. I love that my baby and noticing how I feel rather than look, has inspired me to eat better. Even if that means one more sip of water or one baby spoon of veg in my mouth a day, that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Good for you! My journey is much like yours, but I started my journey at retirement. I first got a herniated disc repaired, replaced both of my knees, then started IF about a year ago. I, too, started at a tight 20, and just bought a pair of size 14 slacks (still a bit too tight). My scale doesn’t move as fast as I’d like, but I’m losing inches at a satisfying rate. I mostly do 20:4, but will do 18:6 or 16:8, as needed, with half-and-half in my morning coffee, too. I like the extra time in my schedule (not sitting down to eat all the time), and am constantly surprised at the energy I have. So many people are alarmed at this “unhealthy” approach to eating, but I make sure go get the right nutrients (balanced meals including protein, veggies and fruit), and it just works better than anything I’ve ever done before! Sure there are days (holidays, etc.) when it’s not perfect, but this is a sustainable lifestyle!

Thanks for always keeping it real. I get a bit obsessed with the scales too but like so many said muscle weights more than fat. Your clothes tell you more than the scales. Thanks for talking about the negative talk and how to see more positives. I think we all need to start talking to ourselves like we would to a friend with kindness and encouragement. Well done on all your achievements. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍🙏💪💐🥳

Don’t let the scale number get to you! I’m sure you’ve buit more muscle along the way. I’ll always remember a nutrition teacher explaining how a pound of fat is the size of a soda can but a pound of muscle is like a thick marker. So you not have lost as much weight but you’ve lost volume and that’s SO important to!! You got this chica!!!

Such a wonderful video, Erica! A year ago I started doing the anti-inflammatory diet...which was not designed as a weight loss program, but a way to reduce the pain I was taking medication for fibromyalgia pain. I totally get where you are coming from when you say that you are about energy levels, and how you feel now as compared to how you felt before you began the intermittent fasting way of life. When I base my food choices on how it will make me feel, it's not hard at all to eat the foods that are good to reduce inflammation! Weight loss did come...30 pounds of it...and I just look at it as an added bonus!

One thing about losing slowly is you'll stick to it better. AND you won't have all the excess skin hanging😁👍🏻

Thank you for the IF advice. I might try it again. I was too inflexible and too harsh on my system the first time, and it was too much of an exhausting feeling for very little
result. I also had early stage breast cancer, did radiation, and started on endocrine reduction therapy. If I try again I'll be more sensible and flexible. I can do an 11 to 7 eating window, and allow myself some slack. I am getting older and find myself not really hungry in the early a.m. much anymore, and not wanting a snack before bedtime any more. I think my body is telling me it's time to try again. I appreciate your suggestions.

Erica, you have done very well! Wight loss and decluttering and taking great care of your children! What more could you ask of yourself! Also more muscle , that if you use the scale, will make it seem as if it is fat weight, when in fact it is not, it is muscle weight! Yes, you are doing very well!👍

Totally agree about not watching food and just having a boundary. I don't do IF currently but it is better for me than watching what I eat specifically, just like you. I prefer to NOT think about food and then I am more likely to eat healthy/not as much.

16 pounds weight loss is fantastic… think of it in sticks of butter. You lost 64 sticks of butter! And how clothes feel is definitely a great indicator. Thank you for your video and sharing your journey.

Thank you so much for this absolutely wonderful motivation - not only for the weight loss which is great - but beating back the inner bully! Lordy above, I've always said we are so much more cruel to ourselves that to anyone else - and that bully carrying on as it does - no milk or it's not a proper fast - if you break it once it's over and you've lost - blah blah blah! That bully does need beating back - thank you!

the only problem with noom is that if you at any time admit that youve ever had disordered eating, they’ll just straight up kick you out. like - isnt it supposed to be a program that helps with ones relationship with food and eating? theres this weird assumption that if you have an ED it must be anorexia (restrictive) and therefore noom is “dangerous”. but what about binge eating disorders? i think noom should reassess how they approach and treat people who are willing to admit that they struggle with an ED. it feels like i was just straight up rejected and there’s no hope for me. it seems wrong that people are encouraged to lie about their struggles with EDs in order to use noom.
