You two are just the best! This was motivating and entertaining. Loved the part where you talked about margaritas, why wait?! 🤣😂 But yes I have come across the declutter avalanche I didn’t know it had a name though, makes sense!
I love the teamwork between husband and wife. My husband at least participates by keeping me company while I declutter. I guess I will appreciate my guy for that.
Erica to avoid toaster crumbs, at dollar store buy a tin disposable tray or a plastic storage container and store toaster inside the tin tray, all crumbs go into the tray, and is easily cleaned out when you need to also it’s easier to remove the toaster from the cabinet❤️ I donated my wok, it was too big and taking up too much room for the once in a while I stir fried it wasn’t worth the aggravation 😂 just easier to donate
Okay Erica, I never laughed so hard. Giving your mother in law 1 week to get back to you about the silicone covers was absolutely priceless. Just the way you backed up and said it. A hoot!
Well done and great team work! My suggestion: unpack the kitchen aid accessories from the box and contain in a bin of accessories to your mixer. Losing the box will save you space and a bin or two will keep them together with much greater access for use. Again, great video.
Get rid of the Kitchen aid bin, put all three (kneader, paddle and whisk) in the bowl. Keep the bowl in the mixer, the stuff in the bowl and everything is right there. Been doing that for almost 30 years
Great sort and declutter. Way to go Erica. I love the way you and Andy work together. Hope he got his lunch. 😄. You really help people with your down to earth, uncomplicated advice. Your journey over the past couple of years is inspirational.
"Display the everyday" is something new I have learned. I have some nice cutting boards and teapot that I have kept out on the counter, but I have minimized everything else that is not beautiful or useful.I keep the vintage green KitchenAid out as well, because it is very heavy.
“Mom, you have one week.” 😂 Lol! You crack me up! We would so be friends if we lived near each other! I love how you and hubster logically wok- ed (couldn’t help that pun!) through each step together. You made it seem doable and that it’s ok to donate items that were given as gifts.
You should keep the colorful lazy susan for INSIDE a cupboard somewhere so the kiddos can't reach it, since you love the colors so much. It IS useful, but again, that's your choice to keep what you want. Thanks for all your transperancy! :)
Hi there! Great comments. On your dishwasher pods and rinse aid pods in the box... how about cutting a piece of cardboard to slide vertically in your glass jar, as a divider? Store dishwasher pods on one side, rinse pods on the other? Then no worries about an under the counter leak, PLUS you gain space!
Ps on fire extinguishers- as long as the dial is in the green zone there are no issues. If out of green zone, some can be recharged but I opt to toss. They are inexpensive and you can find multi packs at sam’s club. Keep couple at the top of the stairs. If you are trying to exit the house and there is a fire below you, use to make a path to get out as you exit. I have a large size one that I’ve had for 20+ years. Still in green zone and no rust on canister. 😃
@@rev.robynyoung7680 Terrific! I worked at a hospital and our fire crews held trainings several times a year where we had to put out fires in trash cans. A great skill to have! I started a fire when I was in a college apartment in my 20’s and did all the wrong things. Good news is that I got it out before the building caught on fire. Been keenly aware ever since how fast something can light and was very grateful for the hands on training.
thanks. just checked ours, because my son kept saying "what's ours? what's ours?" until I looked! one green, one red, one can't tell. also great idea to have one upstairs.
I worked for a fire extinguisher co. There is a date on the label of year of manufacture. The ones with a white label are disposable. They are only good for 6 years. Fire companies will accept them
Some of the Kidde Fire extinguishers were recalled back in 2017. They will send you replacements and have you send affected ones back at their expense. It's on their website under "Product Safety Notices".
Hi Erica 👏 I totally agree items have to be easy access to use 🙌 May I suggest a tip, if you still have the baking trays try one under the toaster in the cupboard. I did this to contain the crumbs! I kept it on the tray while using it, then you can just empty the dry crumbs from the tray and put it back in the cupboard as one. Much simpler! Also the box the kitchen aid items are in is purpose built for the parts. For easier access see if the lid flips back, maybe tape it back, so that it becomes like the open top containers you like 😊
Really like your clips. You might consider getting a sliding board for the kitchen aid. It allows heavy appliances to be moved around easily when slightly lifted up. An command hooks for the appliance cables. 😁
It is so enjoyable when you and Andy work together. Also helps that final decisions can be made because both of you are there to make them in the moment. Cracks me up that Andy had just come up for lunch...Surprise!
You guys did an awesome job, with the toaster I keep a baking tray underneath it, that way you catch all the crumbs on the tray and your cupboard stays clean.
This is always the exhausting part of trying to simplify...the rearranging. My husband always laughs that just when he figures out where something is I've moved it to a "better" spot.
Erica, I hope this becomes an ongoing series! The clutter (and furniture rearranging) avalanche is real and overwhelming. I do like the idea of Dana K. White’s no mess method, but in actuality the full removal and avalanche is more my style, to the point that I have even made a mind map of the anticipated avalanche so I can start from what would have been the end. Having someone else talk you through the avalanche can also make all the difference!
Thank you for being real, showing everything sometimes I feel lost in too much stuff again and procrastinating making decisions! Love the dynamic between you two.❤
Having you be a reader is such an asset. As a viewer, I know, or at least get the very strong impression, that you've read 'all the books' on the subject of decluttering and minimizing. Your wealth of knowledge and advice goes beyond your personal experience but you also draw from the of experiences of those who've gone before you. You filter out all the information from everything you've read and you've applied those precepts and concepts. I think this is one thing that has made you stand out.
That first cabinet looked like a clown car!! 🤣 I can't believe how much came out of it! And that was so funny with your son pulling things out and hitting you in the face with all the cords! That's something my son would do too! 🤣🤣 That was so sweet that he helped out. Also loved how Andy came in to help and how great he is at organizing and decluttering too! Also, I try to store all of my cutting boards, cookie sheets, cupcake baking pans, and anything flat in a vertical position if possible. You can slide them into a plate holder or pot lid organizer to keep them separated. Those items can take up so much space!
We were lucky to be able to design our own kitchen and fitted all lower cabinets with drawers or pull-out shelves. No more crouching to get to things, and maximum use of space.
Had a linen avalanche! Do not have a linen closet, decluttered the huge piece of furniture that was holding the linens. Cut the amount in half and thought outside of the box. Now stored in the top of a closet that wasn't being utilized. So happy!
I repurposed a sliding aluminum cover from a 9x13 cake pan to become a tray holding our toaster. (Think small cookie sheett with sides) I lift out the toaster and tray to transfer to counter. The tray really holds the crumbs and eliminated the need to wipe crumbs out to cabinet.
I sit my toaster inside the plastic lid of a storage tub. It just means no crumbs in the cupboard. I use the tub elsewhere and the lid was spare to my needs. Also easy to lift the toaster in and out using the lid and it contains the toaster cord too!
I, too, laughed out loud over the, "You have one week!" comment. My husband in another room asked what I laughed at, because he loves a good joke, too. So I had to explain the whole sequence to him. So, you got another laugh from the cheap seats.
Erica, I used to struggle with moving my Kitchen Aid when I used it and so I added the felt pads used for chairs on the bottom contact areas of a kitchen Aid and it works like a dream sliding the Kitchen Aid in and out from under my cabinet.😉
The kitchen is one area I'm glad my husband has no opinions. I am ruthless with small appliances. I'm now down to a coffee pot, toaster, basic blender, crock pot, and a hand mixer. I cook every meal from home, but only kept the workhorses. The occasional items I just borrow from others. In our small kitchen it has made a huge difference.
Great job! It is amazing how much stuff you decluttered by trying to reorganize your appliance cupboard! It is great to see Andy in the videos! He seems like he is getting on board with minimalism! A big win in a short amount of time!
My cupboards were like yours so I bought serving trays with handle grips to pull forward, works great to retrieve things. Also I bought an older small cookie sheet for under the toaster. Lifting it in n out.. no crumbs to clean up after
I like Dana K. White's method of when you "take it there now" if it doesn't fit, you only pull out enough trash, what goes somewhere else, or could be donated to make room for what you brought over in that space. Then you take those items back to where you started and put them in your trash bag/donate box (or in those items' homes) and get back to the place you started decluttering to begin with. That way you don't get overwhelmed by an "avalanche" and not get any space done.
I keep the kitchen aid things you have in the green container just in the bowl of the mixer…. Works great for me! Well done on the decluttering looks great! I love how you and your husband work as a team!

He keeps asking 😂😂

Decluttering and organizing is SO Satisfying!
Great ideas, Andy! And so helpful.
I keep my toaster on a small tray. It keeps crumbs in the tray and not on counter or cabinet. I love it!
It was sweet for him to come visit and stay to work. High five!
Love seeing how adept Andy has become at this! Fast decision making.
Awesome work Team Lucas! I5 was totally worth creating an avalanche to make it more simplified for your day to day life. :)

Hi Erica. Use the lazy Susan in the corner cupboard to spin items to access
Yes! I was just gonna say that! Lazy susans work so well for kitchen corners that are difficult to reach.
My exact thought. Also get cheap cookie sheets to easily slide groupings of things in that wonky corner cabinet.

I remember watching the messy minimalist and her video about this. But you actually showing it makes me feel so normal 😂 this is my brain.
I love your real life video's, nothing pollished just how it is difficult and messy but your place gets better.
Impressive declutter pile! I agree with you about getting things out of a cabinet and having to move stuff to get to what you need…such a pain!
Your thumbnail had me cracking up!!!
Good id3a about kitchen aid and asseries.
I love how you too work through these things, it helps me when I'm clearing out too!! 💖💖

Local firehouse is always best and free for them to check valves and all
Bring the extinguishers to the fire station. They can test them and recharge them.
I like keeping the roll ofgarbage bags in the bottom of trash cans and cookie sheet under toaster. You have one week 🙃Lol
I store baking trays and boards vertically in a plastic tub, saves space and easy to get too, plus is tidier than a pile of them stacked on each other
You could get a ommando hook and hang the long cutting board on the side of the cabinet on the right of your sink.
Love your channel, love the avalanche series. I love your minimalish identity. Suits me.
I would be on a Life Mission to find a tray that fits the toaster perfectly to catch all the crumbs!! :-)
