Just a quick little fun fact: Ruby and Yang both forged their own weapons while in school, so they built them to have that extreme recoil that they use to move them around the battlefield. And like 99% of weapons you see in the show has some form of firearm/ranged ability.
To put it simply:
It's also a gun.

If in doubt of what a weapon does, its probably also a gun 90% of the time
If it isn't also a gun it probably unfolds into an even bigger weapon or combines with another weapon to turn into another weapon.
Ok so a few things:
The Red Trailer was made entirely by one dude, the creator of this series, Monty Oum as a proof of concept. There’s a couple of canon lore bits (the music and the grave) but it was mainly to show the concept off. The rest of the trailers have more canon lore to them so and are pretty awesome.
RWBY is pronounced like Ruby.
Monty Oum sadly passed away in February five years ago due to an allergic reaction after the second volume of this show so now it’s headed up by his co-writers Miles and Kerry and the rest of CRWBY. Monty also did all the fight scenes while he was still around, and he was a legend at it. RIP Monty.
Each character is based off a fairytale, legend, story of some sort and let us know if you’re okay with us telling you which ones are which cuz I promise a lot of us are gonna wanna tell you.
The animation is very limited in the first couple seasons because RT had the budget of a shoestring but the production quality does improve as it goes on, they were also animating in Poser which is... limited. Has a certain charm to it tho.
Speaking of that production the first volume’s budget was, again, shoestring. So episodes were split into two parters that were barely five minutes each. I’d recommend reacting to the first volume like so after the trailers: Ep 1, 2+3, 4+5, 6+7, 8, 9+10, 11+12, 13+14, 15, and 16. Just so you have enough material for an actual reaction vid. Thankfully this is only a problem for V1.
Blake’s weapon is described as a ballistic variant chain scythe. It’s basically a katana that doubles as a gun that she can swing around on a ribbon and the sheath is also a cleaver.
Yang is my favorite.

Yeah... Trust me I can't believe as well. Although I dropped the Series after Vol 6... But these old Trailers and the Early Volumes till S6 still my favourite.

The hint on Blake splitting away and leaving is her asking "What about the crew members?", and Adam callously responding "What about them?".
I find it despairing how many reactors blinkered on that. at the very least one should be able to assume that that was the Last Straw in a continuing chain of bad signs.

The additions by Rooster Teeth to the "remastered" trailers doesn't help her either. The original Oum trailer had A LOT less talking, as in only two phrases being spoken (the "what about the crew" exchange, and the single "goodbye"). That made the words stay in your brain until the end

I love how Weiss' character developed over the series, but the impression of her character that her trailer gives to how she acts when she's introduced in the show was such polar opposites xD
That's probably why the anime adaptation is focused on her as she does go through the most character development out of the 4 of them.
Weiss’ development was great. Problem is, it was done at the expense of the titular character, who ended up getting very little
In hindsight, it's probably because the White Trailer takes place while she is at home under her father's control vs when she starts attending Beacon and finally has more freedom but also has to deal with people her age who aren't part of the Atlas elite.
@@jordinagel1184 Nah, there were way more characters that got development at the expense of Ruby, and Weiss isn't one of them. Weiss is one of the four main characters, she should have all the development she has. There are however other characters that did get development at the expense of Ruby, who aren't even main characters, so the time spent developing them isn't even warranted.
There are plenty of characters that you could take scenes away from to give Ruby more, and Weiss is at the very bottom of that list. I wouldn't even put her on the list at all, but if she must go on it, then it's the bottom.
@@ItsXetren Well, Weiss still got way more development than any of the four main characters (save perhaps Blake) in the first three seasons, making pretty good progress from the b*tchy princess she was originally. I get that she needs development too, and what she got was good, but really Ruby should’ve come before, or very shortly after. Actually, more than Weiss, I think Jaune is the one who was hogging way too much screen time, considering he’s not even part of the main quartet (and is voiced by one of the writers of the show… Hmm…)
Rest in peace mounty oum. He did such badass animations, even before Rooster Teeth was built. If you love badass fight scenes, he also made "dead fantasy" which is a fan animation of final fantasy vs dead or alive characters

The music in RWBY is amazing as well. The main female vocalist, Casey Lee Williams, is only 14 when she did the trailers.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 It really is! The one difference though is that Casey continues singing throughout all the volumes. So as the girls in the series grow, you hear Casey's vocals grow and her come into her own voice and music.
Ruby is probably my favorite but Weiss's character development throughout the series ties her for first. In terms of just fighting styles it would probably be Ruby, Blake, Yang, and then Weiss.

It’s crazy to think that I was a child when RWBY came out and now I’m an adult that pays taxes and all of the other things that comes with being an adult and I’m still watching it lol. This is genuinely one of my favorite things that I’ve ever watched. You really grow so attached to the characters! There’s a lot of badass women in this show and I highly recommend watching this if y’all have the time! And, Yang (Yellow) is and will always be best girl for me lol. Congrats on the milestone!!! 🙌🏾

I mean, the action’s pretty good (REALLY good in the first few seasons), but… Intelligent world building and character development are NOT things I’d associate with the show. Passion, yes, but even that fizzled out after Monty’s passing.
@@jordinagel1184Personally I think the character development is a mixed bag. Some characters have really good development ("Ice Queen" and "Remnant's Best Leg Breaker") but others have very little development (a certain drunk)
I've personally never seen ruby but I hear the choreography when it comes to combat is absolutely crazy, and if you were ever to react to the series I'm pretty sure the creators are completely fine with full/edited reactions as long as you don't react to the newest episodes when they come out
Yes, RoosterTeeth has historically been fine with reactors posting full-episode reactions on UA-cam. If a reaction video gets taken down, it is usually UA-cam's automatic copyright bots doing it, and not RoosterTeeth themselves. So a quick email sees things restored in under a couple days.
Some reactors take this into account, and post their videos privately first so that any hiccups can be dealt with behind the scenes without messing up a release schedule.
That seems to be the case with all of their content. Older stuff is fine to react to but newer content they obviously want people to see first on their channel. Makes total sense and always appreciative of when companies are reaction friendly 😊😀
Monty Oum the real creator RWBY already made a few videos back then. Try Dead Fantasy or Halo vs Metroid...
1:45 …let’s just say the name origin for Rooster Teeth involves the alternate name for a rooster and bite…a joke one of the founders made the the others hated for sticking lol
Some fun trivia: the first trailer, “Red”, Monty Oum did by himself while he was working on other shows (he was the lead animator for Rooster Teeth’s biggest show at the time, Red vs Blue), which he did in less than three weeks-he was a huge multitasker, even whipping up costumes during production crunch times.
And one the singers in these trailers was the daughter of the lead composer for the series, Casey Lee Williams, who was only 14 at the time when she was hitting those high notes in the “White” trailer

My favorite character is definitely Yang,
a quick description of the series. The world that RWBY takes place in is called "Remnant". Many of the characters have a special ability called a "Semblance", every character's Semblance is unique to them. The 4 main characters go to a school called Beacon, where they train and use their powers to fight the black and white monsters that are called Grimm. Also, almost every character's weapon is also a gun. I love this show because it has a lot of amazing action scenes and incredible storylines, there's a lot of lore and backstory about the universe that RWBY exists in as well.
The only exception to everyone having unique semblances is Weiss, her mother and older sister have the same semblance

Oum attracted attention within the gaming community after releasing an animated video in 2007, titled Haloid, where characters from the Halo and Metroid video game franchises fight against each other, which went viral. In October of the same year, he released a follow-up, Dead Fantasy. Oum began working for Rooster Teeth, serving as the lead animator for Red vs. Blue, and creating the original animated series RWBY.
He died on February 1, 2015. His work was really important for indepandent animators and got lots of respect for that. Even Team Four Star thanked him in there own series. Dragon Ball Z Abrigded.

I am so glad yaw are reacting to this, this is one of my favorite series right now, did yaw know that when this show first started out by Monty Oum the creator R.I.P. it was only in about 5-to-10-minute segments, but the show took off into popularity and it became a series, also the song Red Like Roses parts 1&2 is an extremely emotional and dark song if you take the time to listen to the lyrics, and I love it.
We did not know that about the show. But heard it’s still going on to its 9th season 😯
I just love how Yang reverts her gauntlets back at 18:18 as if she knew she could take her out without her weapons

I'll have to agree to disagree with the people saying the show went downhill after the first few seasons. I've watched it through a couple of times and, imo, it keeps getting better and better. It definitely slows down in some places action-wise, but fight scenes aren't all that makes a show, and the character beats they continue to put through are super great. I cannot wait for the next season to come out for a lot of reasons I won't get into here - but it's worth seeing if you have the time! Watching the animation grow from the beginning to having fully realized and rendered settings/background models later is also a ton of fun.
But 8 seasons is a commitment! Just feels like this show gets a lot of negativity, so I wanted to share as someone who has fully enjoyed it all the way through.
I agree. Besides, Miles and Kerry worked with Monty, for the framework of the show, so they know what they’re doing. They sadly don’t have the mind of Monty for his animation style, and what he really wanted to do
@@spnsman1 yeah Monty was one of a kind. Don’t know if you remember Dead Fantasy, but that was insane for the time and tech he had to work with and it pretty much still holds up today. It’s unrealistic for those salty “fans” to expect anyone to live up to Monty’s style and choreography, he was a legend and left us too soon unfortunately 😢
It's mostly people who watched it from the beginning as it aired who think it fell off, partially because of the parasocial relationship with the creator, and partially because of other reasons I can't get into without spoiling.
It's definitely much better now than it was at the beginning though
honestly I think the only thing that went downhill is the attitude of parts of the fandom. That's why i started to distance myself from the community. The people I couldn't stand the most were the ones saying that the way the series is going isn't the way Monty would've wanted it to go and then proceed to tell me how it would've been supposed to be.
You might think the people closest to him would know the best, but no, apparently some dude who never met him knows all of his plans.
I personally follow RWBY since the beginning having rewatched it multiple times and I get hooked everytime anew. I think the series is a great watch and am always excited to see for new seasons what crazy things happen this time.

The why of Blake leaving is right there in the Black trailer itself. First the opening quote. Blake was done with being burdened by Adam's violence, such as being willing to murder the train's crew just to cover up a theft. So she left to 'find her own liberation.'.
I think that the Red trailer is my favorite but I do love how Yellow has the songs from the previous ones before going into Yellow's or Yang's song

YEEEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh heck yes! I recommended this one before and am super hyped that you two decided to give it a shot. Love this series. And honestly, the FNDM will flock to your channel in droves if you start reacting to this one. Our quest for more people to react to this show is eternal and insatiable.
This series is very welcoming to reactors so if you were interested, you definitely could react to the series as a whole and not have to worry about strikes on your channel. Rooster Teeth will clear any UA-cam strike issues from the UA-cam bots on the videos if you contact them, I think usually within like 24 or 48 hours. But Rooster Teeth encourages reactions to this show.
Also, the series has an AMAZING soundtrack, mostly all sung by one person named Casey Lee Williams (who was I think 12 or so at the time of these trailers). The songs are full of worldbuilding so most people will tell you to listen to them after each volume to get more info (and just to have an awesome time because again, songs are bangers).
To answer confusion about why Blake left Adam at the end of her trailer at a surface level, when he said he would set the charges she asked "what about the crew members" he said "what about them?" Can't say more without spoilers for the show.
My favorite trailer was White as I love her design and I'm a fan of 1v1 battle more than 1 vs army style fights and then in the show, my favorite of the 4 girls was Ruby (Red) for a while, but at the point of the show now, my favorite is solidly Weiss (white). My favorite trailer to watch people react to is definitely Red though. The moment of that first shot always gets some amazing reactions out of people.
I hope you two continue with this series sometime. From what I've seen of your content, I'm confident you two will enjoy it.

Glad you guys saw the amazing work the late Monty Oum created. As for watching the series… well that’s up to you two. Personally I just go for the first three volumes since he passed away between the second and third. Some will say the whole show but honestly it doesn’t feel the same without him.
You're mostly on point about the character's inspirations. Red is Little Red Riding Hood, White is Snow White, Yellow is Goldilocks. But Black is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Fun fact: The girls that Yellow is fighting were concept designs for Red and White.

RWBY is something really special. Ups and downs notwithstanding, it's always been a labor of love with a passionate community. The animation starts as you saw, but improves every season, making extra big jumps in quality at Volumes (seasons) 4 and 6.
The music is all bespoke for the show. Mainly a father-daughter team; Jeff and Casey Lee Williams, who are both *_incredibly_* talented musicians. The lyrics are often akin to a greek chorus, singing from a particular character's perspective or internal monologue. Musical pieces tied to particular characters retain the same elements across multiple songs. There is so much there that people who react to the show, often do separate react and analysis videos, _just_ for the music.
The characters and monsters are mostly based on fairytale analogues, with nods in their name and/or character design to their origin. You noticed a couple already. Some references are more obvious than others, with the fanbase having fun teasing out the obscure ones over the years.
It started as the brainchild of an animator by the name of Monty Oum. The Red trailer is entirely his work, and served as the pitch presentation to Rooster Teeth. He sadly passed away prior to the show's third volume but his friends and coworkers kept the show going in his memory. He was an amazing talent, and an all-around inspiring person. Known prior to most people for his dynamic fight choreography in Red vs Blue, and Dead Fantasy. His signature style is that everything is in motion, all the time. The choreography tells a story of each fighters thought process in the moment, and even sometimes their growth as characters.
At its core, this is a character-driven story. It centers on teenagers, but it is not a kids story. The gore gets turned down a bit more than what you saw, while the lewdest thing is some handholding and the occasional kiss; but the show deals with mature topics like racism, alcoholism, depression, murder and abuse, while the world itself is incredibly dangerous just to live in. Overall, it's an emotional rollercoaster if one can empathize with the characters.
If you want more to watch, there are various grades of spoilerific, and spoiler-free options.
100% Spoiler-Free: the SLVR trailers. This is a fan animation set in an alternate RWBY timeline with totally different characters. More of the crazy combo weapons and powers you've seen, but completely unconnected.
99% Spoiler-free: The "Volume 5 Weiss character short", and "Volume 5 Yang character short". (Yes, Volume 5, seriously). They show the same girls in the White, Red, and Yellow trailers, and canonically take place _before_ the fights you saw. The real highlight is that you get to see the show in the new animation engine, with more polished voice work, as a preview to see how gorgeous it looks today.
90% Spoiler-free: The "Volume 5 Blake character short". As above, it partially takes place before the events of the trailer, but partially in volume 5 itself. It also spoils a pretty big plot point from the end of Volume 1. Nothing critical, but it would mean you know something before the characters do.
50% Spoiler: The "RWBY Ice Queendom trailer". This is a Japanese anime studio redoing the first season of the Rooster Teeth show. I cannot overstate how weird it is that this "anime-inspired" *_American_* show got _such_ a big following in Japan that they are making an anime of it. Like any show trailer, it hits some random highlights.
Spoilerific:
The deathbattles. Yang vs Tifa, Weiss vs Mitsuru, Blake vs Mikasa. All good watches that go over the characters in depth.
The Volume 1-8 openings. Pretty spoilery even lacking context. But such a good watch _and_ listen.
I'll end with a note on the fans, or FNDM (fandom). It is an overwhelmingly positive, supportive, and inclusive community; always looking for new reactors to introduce to the series.
The show has its own vocal detractors though, for various reasons. Some of which are about the quality of the show itself changing over time, and some about staffing or business decisions the company made. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I feel that the energy of the people complaining is a sign of how passionate they were as fans before they checked out. Their connection to the show being incredibly strong before the particular triggering event happened that they personally thought was too much. After all, "the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy". That speaks to how deeply it has touched some people's lives. I think it says a lot though when the detractors say *_"I_* don't like this anymore, so *_you_* shouldn't watch it". That is too much.
I encourage you to judge the show for itself, it has a lot to offer both on its own, and through its various spin offs like RWBY Chibi. It is made with a lot of heart, and it shows.

Yellow is everyone's favorite because of the clear sense of personality you get from her trailer alone making her the most appealing character due to her bombastic attributes accompanied by an image of black, a white effect, and a club mix of all the other trailers' songs before her own and the end reveal of red solidifying her as not only the glue of the group, but both figuratively and literally the group's big sister.
Black is the most mysterious, but it's also the first to introduce dialogue meaning their interactions and how he talks to her is a likely indication of how despite them working well together aesthetically and strategically they cannot meet in the middle in terms of conversation making her departure all the more understandable.
White was my favorite mainly because I'm a sucker for elegant aesthetics, but there wasn't much happening in terms of fighting despite her flashy effects because her story is actual told in her lyrics as she is the first and only character to sing her own song.
Red is a perfect introduction as it sets up the motif that every character is a twisted take on a fairy tale not to mention her dynamic fighting style sets the stage for the craziness that is RWBY.
All 4 characters represent the 4 core parts of the story of RWBY, the battle, the music, the lore, and the character. RWBY also pronounced as Ruby.

Well, I'll tell you that not everyone likes it because of its attractive appearance, in my case I like that it is a melee character (that is, that it shows fighting skills apart from having weapons that it uses long and short distance)

Yeah, barring a couple things that feel a tad bit rushed or redundant, it's a really good series. I hope they react to it, even if it's just the first volume.
The music in these trailers, as well as 98% of all vocal music in the series to date, is done by the father/daughter team of Jeff and Casey Lee Williams. The song 'Red Like Roses, part 1' used in the Red trailer was recorded when Casey Lee was 13. She is now a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, has her own original music as well as albums with a band of classmates called 'O.K. Goodnight'. In later seasons of the show she took over from her father to write and arrange several of the songs rather than just doing the vocals.
Their first music done for Rooster Teeth was for the series 'Red vs. Blue' when Casey Lee was 12.

One thing you learn very quickly with early rwby is there is a lot of intention behind everything, even the music. It was all the master work of Monty oum

Play close attention to the music, it is in fact a huge part of the show. The girl singing in these is the daughter of the guy who wrote most of it, she was like 13 or 14 when she recorded these songs. Her mother sings with her at times as does her father and they have remained a part of the shows through the following seasons.

Fun Fact: all 4 of the girls (and most of the characters) are based of fairy tales or legends. With the 4 we have Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Goldilocks.

Don't get caught up in the shortcomings or the divisive negative commenters, don't let people give you spoilers (part of the fun is the discovery and figuring stuff out on your own), pay attention to the music (spectacular music BTW) and take a number of chapters at a time - they're pretty short. Also check out World of Remnant midway Volume 2 for world building exposition. This is my favorite animated series.

Rooster Teeth is 'clean' version of a popular insult that I know my friends and I, and I'm assuming the RT founders as well, called each other LONG before Rooster Teeth's founding in 2003. Cock Bite = Rooster Teeth. They even use this term in the first show they produced, Red V Blue.
I think one of the coolest things about RWBY is that it's so themed off of fairy tales, mythology, and folklore. Almost all of the major characters are based on fairy tale characters and mythological figures, and the plot even kind of mirrors the stories of said characters sometimes. It's definitely a fun show that I recommend checking out!
Red is based off Little Red Riding Hood (the red hood, the wolves), White is based off Snow White (the song playing has the lyrics "Mirror, tell me something, tell me who's the loneliest girl of all", referencing "Mirror, mirror, on the wall"), Black is based off Beauty and the Beast (this one becomes more obvious in the actual show, it's not super clear from the trailer), and Yellow is based off Goldilocks and the Three Bears (the literal gold locks, and the man named Junior is supposed to represent the Baby Bear)

Rooster Teeth got their start with a series called Red vs Blue (also worth a watch) which uses footage captured from the Halo games. The company name is a more PR friendly version of a frequent insult used on RvB, "Cock-Bite."
I can't believe I missed this video when it came out! Waaaaaay back when these trailers first launched, I was obsessed because there was literally nothing else like it out there. Frankly I don't think there is even now in the year 2023. Monty Oum, the creator, was a GENIUS, and his animation style was so incredibly unique that, after he passed away, they were forced to change the animation style because they couldn't replicate it. I personally haven't seen past season 2 (I was too sad about Monty's passing to continue), but RWBY is definitely worth watching, and seeing these trailers again made me incredibly nostalgic. So at a heads up RWBY is pronounced the same as 'Ruby'. The show (and the first Red trailer) was made as a proof of concept by the fight choreographer Monty Oum (RIP). So the fights have always been centre stage, and the lore plays a lot of catch up in the early seasons. But the story is still very well done, and with the shows initial snowballing success the budget and animation levels up by leaps and bounds each season.
A perfect blend of whimsy and fun wrapped in excillerating combat.

I think most people start out loving Yang (Yellow) the most, but over time, your perspective shifts for all of them with both ups and downs, which is awesome because that's how actual people are. People are super inconsistent and sometimes, these characters have their shit together and are being badasses and getting everything right. Other times, they're in the wrong, doing stupid things, getting stuck in their own heads in the worst ways, or being downright obnoxious. It's hard to say which of the four is my favorite right now, especially given that my favorite right now is a side character (though it's difficult to say that certain characters are still side characters after a certain point, as they become so thoroughly fleshed out).
We love shows where you go from loving to disliking characters to being disappointed in them at times. But there always needs to be at least one awesome character in the story that we love. Feels like some shows can go downhill if they lose sight of the one badass character rule 😛

This is so cool to see. I know you guys have already seen a bunch of comments talking about Monty Oum, so I'll skip the regular stuff in favor of an interesting bit of trivia. The same sense of rhythm that makes his fight scenes so spectacular also made him amazing at DDR. There's a video out there of him controlling both sides of a machine once during a convention.

I've seen a video where he played DDR while actually dancing on it. He was absolutely incredible. He used to make animated dance videos with the full body motion capture they had, too.
The show is amazing and definitely grows crazy. The misic is also one of the best parts. What really helps is that each piece of music also conveys information on the character its for.

If you guys also decide to watch Rooster Teeth's Red vs. Blue series, Monty Oum, the creator of RWBY also did choreograph and animate the fight scenes in Season 8, 9 and 10.
He had a gift for it. There's a report that he cranked out episodes while pulling a couple of all-nighters. His dedication was *chef's kiss.
I like the fact that Monty takes the “Jackie Chan” approach. He doesn’t make the fight a fight, it’s more like dancing.
He uses the music in the background as a sort of temp, and choreographs the fight to go along with the song. Which is some people forget to do, as fight can also tell a story if done correctly.
Fun fact: The twins in Yang's trailer were the original concept designs for Ruby and Weiss at some point. So technically, Yang beat up Ruby and Weiss. XD

Ah wow, thanks for doing this! I fell in love with Monty's animation and choreography style ever since I first saw Dead Fantasy and Haloid when he first released them, and for me personally, I still feel that no one else has ever come close to matching his style and artistry in fighting. His passing was a huge blow for me growing up, especially at such a young age and to such an unexpected medical reaction. He was truly unique and absolutely brimming with energy and passion and ideas, and to think about all that he could have brought into the world was gone with him was heartrending. But the people he inspired will continue on and he'll continue living on through them.
P.S. I know you asked, but you might not appreciate the answer :v The reason they named their company Rooster Teeth is because one of their favourite and most used insults for one another back when they were younger was 'cock-bite' (featured quite heavily in the first few seasons of Red vs Blue, their original flagship series) and thus you get 'rooster' and 'teeth'.

Roosterteeth's name comes from someone in one of their early Halo parody vids being called a 'backstabbing cockbite'. It's a shame RWBY's writing spiraled downward after the third or fourth season, really. But it's always magical watching someone see this early promise for the first time.
i wouldent say spiraled downwards but it changed up the way it tells the story but i would say that after a couple of season after the change they found there own way and i would say its as good as the first seasons but its so different that you cant really compare them and its fine to like one over the other
but i will always miss the way the fights the were made in a unique way that i have not seen any were ells i will always miss Monty Oum
I disagree... there may have been potentially bigger missteps in the writing then, but overall I would say it's still just as good... And I'd argue that it wasn't the writing that was the best thing about volumes 1 - 3 either... If you dislike their choices, I can understand, but I don't think you can objectively say it was all down hill after volume 3... Personally, I think volume 7 is my favourite as a total package... I know some people have issues with certain aspects, but it all makes sense to me and I think most people's issues come down to what they wanted to happen and not paying proper attention... But maybe that's just me.
But yeah, I have to disagree that it's all downhill after volume 3 in terms of story, or in general... Though I do think volume 6 and 7 is where it starts to get back on track, then volume 8 has some cool stuff, but lacks polish in comparison to volume 7, which sours me on it a bit... Also, not as many cool songs lol.
@@KitsyX i so agree with you 4 was a bit of a mess with its animations one second they stand on grass the other second they stand on sand even if they never moved there were allot of small things with the animations and the faces were vary oily from time to time that got fixed in volume 5 but there were still something missing and that got fixed in volume 6
All 4 of them have some kind of gun or gun-like feature in their weapons:
Ruby (Red)'s scythe is also a sniper rifle
Weiss (White)'s rapier acts as a revolver, although it isn't actually a gun
Blake (Black)'s sword is also a pistol
Yang (Yellow)'s gauntlets are also shotguns that have explosive rounds
Even Adam (guy from Black trailer) has a shotgun as the sheath of his katana

The trailers were made and presented in order while in development, with Red being the first and a proof of concept made by Monty. You can see how the show advanced as the trailers got more complex with voice acting starting in Black.

The creators didn't make the World of Remnant videos until Volume 2, but they are good to watch before Volume 1 since they do explain the terminology and how certain things work. In fact, there are also World of Remnant videos for Volume 3 and Volume 4, which explain things that are relevant to those particular volumes.

All of the characters were designed so that they could be cosplayed, so each of them has some kind of bag or pouch, which is what you noticed on Weiss’s back

Talk about a wonderful, pleasant surprise when this popped up, absolutely love this show. Quick note about the title: it is meant to be pronounced as Ruby, not saying the individual letters, just so you know. I imagine a lot of comments will be correcting you.😁
Little bit of background: RWBY takes place in a world called Remnant where dark malevolent creatures called Creatures of Grimm, who feed on negative emotions, suddenly appeared and started attacking humans. Using a mysterious energy known as Dust, people were able to fight back against the Grimm, as well as bring rapid growth to the world. The specially trained people who specifically protect others from the Grimm using the power of the Dust are known as Huntsmen.
Main character Ruby Rose(Red) is a trainee who was chosen by the elite Beacon Academy and allowed to skip a couple years worth of training in order to attend said Academy. Once there, she gets placed into a team with 3 others: her loud and brash big sister Yang Xiao Long(Yellow); Weiss Schnee(White), who is the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company; and Blake Belladonna(Black), who is your usual aloof mysterious loner type. The story goes from there, and it is awesome from beginning to end, imo, though I will say the writing in later seasons does start getting a little blah, but that seems to happen to most shows, really. Really hope you react to the whole series, that would be sweet. There are 8 seasons(or volumes, as they're called), with, I believe, a 9th on the way, so could definitely get a fair bit of content out of it. Even if you don't do it for the channel, definitely watch it on your own time, you will not be disappointed.

Oh, and Ruby and Yang are definitely my favorites, though I quite like Blake as well. Weiss is alright too, I suppose, but the others are awesome.
One more thing: these were the original 4 trailers released to tease/announce the show, to much speculation and excitement. This was RoosterTeeth's first original IP, their first series that was their own original idea that didn't use assets from something else. Before this, they were primarily known for things related to video games, especially Halo. In particular, their previous claim to fame was a war/comedy series called Red Vs Blue, which they made within the multiplayer mode of each subsequent Halo. Definitely worth checking that out as well.

Congrats on the milestone. You've gathered my sub because of RWBY and I will check out your other reactions. The one thing to keep in the back of your mind is that (for the most part) the RWBY community is present and helpful and that Rooster Teeth (unlike other studios) really seems to love their reactors. They have a few rules that they expect you to follow but, them allowing complete reactions is (so I've heard) seldom allowed. Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but the lyrics in the songs are actually giving some story/background/hints on the characters for each trailer. Besides Yang(yellow), most of the music in her trailer is remixed versions of the other three songs with only a small part of her own theme playing towards the end.

Only bit I'll add that I didn't set elsewhere, is that the music is all custom written to the theme and story of the show. So every song has layers of meaning, and they've done it for eight seasons and counting.
Most of the characters are voiced by employees at Rooster Teeth, as Monty asked them to be the characters. Even added they personality to them, such as Yang telling terrible puns all of the time

I could be wrong, but I always thought that Rooster Teeth was called that because its a play on cockbite which was something said in Red vs Blue by the Red Team, which is another one of Rooster Teeth's shows.
Also the music in this show is really important and you can actually find pieces of lore in the lyrics of the songs that have them. Which just means a lot of RWBY fans encourage new fans to listen to the Season Albums after watching that Volume. You can hear it in the Red trailer, the lyrics to the song are shouting out all the main girls. Each girl also has their own theme song.
