HI! Film and marketing student (recently graduated woo!!)... the man who made the live action commercials wanted to make a proof of concept short film for a Halo film with steven Spielberg... the same production company that would ultimately pass it to paramount and come out with the awful Halo show we got last year... The gentleman who made the commercials ultimately left the project years ago to make DISTRICT 9 and won many awards for its realism in a documentary style scifi film. It is a real shame we never got a live action Halo that respected the source material like these short film ads did, but we did get an amazing film covering the issues of racism within South Africa using SCIFI to tell this lesson. .... da da da (rainbow music plays) THE More you know.... lol loved ur reaction btw.!!!

Halo: Landfall is the main reason why everyone is so pissed a Halo TV show or movie wasn't made. It showed it could be done and it could be done well. Then everyone got re-pissed when Paramount's Halo TV show came out because it completely ignored the lore of Halo in favor of generic daytime TV drama.

The late 2000s was truly The Golden Age of Gaming. EVERYONE had a mic shit talking in lobbies, nobody was "a sweat" or "a try hard" everyone just gamed to have fun and escape from reality. Devs made games with the soul purpose of having fun, not making a profit. Something that will sadly never return. For anyone too young or not born yet to be part of that time truly missed an incredible moment in gaming history.
Halo 3 dropped when i was a Sophomore in High School. The feeling of finally playing Halo 3 after years of waiting after that Halo 2 cliff hanger was just...it felt like a dream. I would give ANYTHING to have just one more night reliving those old memories. All those endless nights playing Multiplayer, Co-op, and creating maps in Forge with my old friends. Many if not all I've lost touch with. Drinking Mountain Dew Gamer Fuel and eating Pizza. The only worry in life was waking up in time so you didn't miss the school bus. I cant help but tear up thinking about those times I've experienced. Halo was on top of the world with Bungie and it pains me to this day to see a Franchise I care so much about and love so much ran through the mud and neglected by the incompetent 343 and Microsoft.

You hit the nail on the head, I was a sophomore in high school at that time too, it was the perfect age to be.
Something people forget about is how back in that day, most people still thought that playing video games was for losers. Halo 3 broke through that. The news was talking about it, it had TV commercials, it had its own flavor of Mountain Dew (yes Game Fuel was originally created for Halo 3) and the world started to understand that us gamers were ahead of the curve, it was undeniable.

While I love that it's more accepted now, being a nerd in general, a lot of games and films have lost their special essence they used to have, it felt more pure back then, god I miss those days.

It sold 2.4 million copies (earning $125 mil) the first 24 hours it was out and established Xbox live as a service, altering the trajectory for an entire industry. So Halo 3's marketing push was just absolutely mad. It did outsell Halo 2 by $45 mil on release day, so I guess it was worth it. The first trailer is special because it has one of the coolest Easter eggs:
When Cortana says "This is the way the world ends", that is a nod to the origins of this franchise. When Bungie was working on the first Halo game, they started teasing fans by sending cryptic emails from Cortana to the homepage of their biggest game at the time: Marathon. You can look up "The Cortana Letters" and see the whole fascinating string of letters and what people were doing at the time to figure it out.
The very first letter contains the line "Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong, THIS is the way the world ends." This is a reference to the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot where he wrote "This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper." So, by saying Eliot got it wrong, Cortana is implying the world will end with a bang, and repeating the line in the announcement trailer was both a nod to the Cortana Letters and Bungie's ending the trilogy with a bang.

@@LUCYJROBYN Good novel. The Flood doesn't add all that much to Halo CE beyond some marine/ODST points of view and some fun nods to moments in the game given additional context, but once you finish with that I'd highly recommend both First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx.
First Strike basically details everything that took place between Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2, and Ghosts of Onyx takes place alongside Halo 2/Halo 3 ODST to explain why certain key players were missing - along with adding some of the best additions to the overall lore. Onyx is a must read if you're eventually going to play Halo Reach as it adds a TON of context to the setting, and if possible I'd highly recommend getting your hands on a PDF copy of Halsey's journal which was included with the Collector's Edition of Reach.
You'll notice real quick reading through the older books that Halsey isn't quite what a lot of people paint her as nowadays. She's a deeply controversial figure to be sure but the books do her considerably more justice while 343 Industries sort of went out of their way to demonize her in keeping with the newer and highly biased Traviss novels at the time. She's certainly flawed but she's also deeply human - if anything Parangosky and Ackerson are the names you should be looking out for if you're going to be working your way through the books. Halsey wasn't top dog at ONI and you'll remember in Fall of Reach that it was explicitly mentioned she was on a time table... and that any attempts to stall or delay for safer alternatives for the children would see her almost immediately set aside and replaced.
Additionally, if possible - Halo Legends and Halo Evolutions are on the shorter side as self contained stories and may make for fun channel videos. They're generally well beloved by the community and Evolutions in particular touches on a lot of the darker and more complex issues of the setting during and after the war's end.

Landfall is incredible, not just visually or conceptually like everyone keeps saying, but also storywise. The entire video--all of the intensity, the blood, the pain and suffering, all the effort--just to TRACK the Master Chief. Not to save him, not to contact him, just to find out where he's going. He's THAT important that so many of these marines died just to be able to find out where he's gonna land after falling from space. It really shows how much these guys see him as their hero, and for good reason. He's a Spartan, a thing of legend who saved the entire human race once, and they know he's about to do it again.

These started a long tradition of Halo getting epic live action trailers for almost every new game, Reach and ODST both have epic live action trailers. Reach’s live action trailer is just as heart wrenching as Halo 3s because Reach is about showing you what the war was like when you aren’t the Master Chief standing against the endless Covenant onslaught, almost no hope and no escape just bitter war and sacrifice.

The begining of one hell of a great adventure. So many fond memories.

I remember the "Starry night" trailer was shown as a commercial for a monday night football game.
My friends Dad said "holy cow this looks real". And my friend ran to the living room to see what he was talking about. It was Halo 3.
He called me immediately to tell me to try to find it online and watch it.
The next day at school all way talked about was that trailer.
Halo 3 and the months leading up to it wasn't a normal game. It was a holy experience. We were religious fanatics waiting for our Jesus to return.
And when the game finally came out. It was the best gaming experience ive ever had.
The campaign, the music, the friends i made.
I would come home, boot up my xbox, get into a custom games lobby by myself. And then go make a snack. Come back and the lobby would be full of other people waiting to play some custom games and crazy maps. Cuz thats how awesome the community was.
One person would see me come online and invite their friends who would invite their friends. And so on and so on. One kid would make a crazy map or game mode and they could share it to everyone.
Halo 3 was the Pinnacle of online gaming. Truely the PEAK of the Golden era of gaming.

Halo was one of the biggest gaming franchises, on par with GTA in terms of popularity in the US and these trailers are an important aspect of why there was so much hype around halo 3. • @UNSCPILOT
      @UNSCPILOT 2 місяці тому +2

As the sizzling sounds would indicate though, the projectiles are screaming hot, molten even, when fired so it's still quite a crule weapon in it's own way.
As an asside though, man, in the old books even the needler sounds like such a nightmare, even if the needles miss and just blow up near you, you still get peppered with razer sharp micro-shrapnel that would be a nightmare to remove, or in Fall of Reach in particular the descriptions of even Mjolnir armor struggling to handle a few direct hits from plasma weapons and the extensive surgery Halsey had to do on Linda and Kelly.
A lot of the content around the original Trilogy, ODST, and Reach really showed how desperate things were from the beginning of the Human-Covenant war and even moreso towards the end, the new stuff has entirely forgot what the spirit and story of Halo was originally it's probably no wonder why a lot of older players have fallen off in the years since

The fact that you went back and watched the marketing for the third game before playing it is incredible, most streamers or youtubers dont do that for "older" games, thats amazing, now being a new fan you can understand the beauty and hype of it all and youre right, when this trailer came out, people went bonkers. 2007 was a stacked year too, Halo faced competion with Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock and even Uncharted, those were the best times. I remember staying up whatching a South Park because they were going to premiere a Call Of Duty Moder Warfare 2 trailer in 2009, they did and me and a lot of my friends stayed up just to see it, so anxious and excited for the game. I miss the golden years of gaming, it was truly amazing. Also I will say watch the marketing for Halo Reach as well when you get to it, that was amazing too especially considering it was Bungies official send off of the series for them.

Halo 3 was my proper introduction to Halo back in 2007 and it all started because this marketing stood out from all the other games. The marketing was so different, it didn't just seem like another shooter. No pun intended, but the marketing made you BELIEVE in this story and you can just feel that the original developers did as well. Soul was put into Halo's original trilogy. And when I got my hands on Halo 3, I didn't realize I was going to be experiencing one of the most legendary games of all time. I wish you were there to see it.
And the best part, they handed US the keys to keep creating memories through something revolutionary: Forge and Theater mode - the first addition to Halo where you can create your own maps and films. At the time, that was so damn big. Players were able to express there full creativity and share them with everyone through Halo 3 with ease of access. everyone made their own shows, scripts, stories, mini games, social hubs, everything. The original creators wanted US to create our story once they ended theirs.
