    Hey mate 1st of all thanks for taking the time out to make this video. I fitted the side stand relocate today on my 2020 790R I didn't have to as you said take AXP skid plate off the wire to the sender was routed behind the countershaft sprocket with 2 locating screws for the special wire holder after removing the countershaft sprocket I had to cut the plastic swingarm protector slightly to remove both the wire holder with 2 small zip ties out once removed I re routed the wire up behind the cylinder on the back of the starter motor re zip tied the wiring with the quick shifter harness wires job done just sharing for those who bother to read the comments cheers Travis

    Can see how this would be important for serious off roading. My DR650 has a clutch and kickstand switch that many bypass to avoid aggravation. Keep up the good work!

    Good Review and install. I'm going with the Enduro Engineering skid plate, and going to try and fab the AXP so the wings protect the tank.

      EE makes some quality stuff. I just prefer AXP because it slides over rocks so well and doesn't vibrate. All depends on what you're using it for

    I had the side stand sensor fail on my 990 Superduke and on the 990 SMR. I carried the side stand eliminator. It plugged in to the connector near the side stand. So the switch does fail on its own from time to time.
    I like this idea, and will be getting one.

      Ya, I would love to have something that plugs in like that. But unfortunately, not available from anyone yet. This is the next best thing

    If the bypass is mounted near the CAT would not the heat damage the switch?

    Thanks for the vid. I’ll get one for sure, but I’m going to try and find a place to mount it not on the engine... even if I need to splice in some wire to make it longer. Mines decat’d so there’s gotta be room somewhere and not on an engine bolt. Again, thanks for the vid. 👍

      You can remove nthe left leg assembly to get more slack. You can run it up to the starter or mount it somewhere on the frame fairly easily.
      The starter honestly looks like an awesome place.

    Ok, we've seen the video on installing this bypass but what oof the switch goes bad? You're still stranded unless you know a work around for the switch. Does anyone know the principle the switch runs on so we can bypass it if we need to? There has to be a bypass that fools the ECU.

    • @EverySingleSunday
      @EverySingleSunday  4 роки тому

      That would be nice... But I haven't seen one yet for this bike. At least this tucks it up and out of the way so it won't get smashed

    Good video! Travis have you had a problem with the side stand moving during off-road travel in whoops I've noticed my kickstand moves up and down. Do you have that problem?

    • @EverySingleSunday
      @EverySingleSunday  3 роки тому

      Every kickstand moves up and down. As long as you were moving forward it should not be a problem and should return to its original spot.

    In the hope that you will even read this or respond to, here is what is being said by a KTM mechanic. Have you had any of these problems? From a Forum '' 790/890 issues and why do we still buy them?''
    KTMs are what they are: incredibly well-engineered bikes that work amazingly…when they work. Some work longer than others.
    Despite a few niggles like airbox sealing, air filter access (fixed on the new design), and fuel pumps, that 1090/1190/1290 platform is a solid bike. I’d have no issues putting my money down on one.
    The 790/890 on the other hand is a pile of garbage. The list of problems I’ve seen on these bikes is a mile long and growing by the day.
    - premature valve wear
    - premature cam wear
    - immobilizer failures
    - brake failures
    - rear shock failures
    - countershaft seal failures
    - coolant leaks
    - clutch lubrication issues
    - TFT display failures
    - Fuel tank venting issues
    - Fuel pump issues
    - Debris in fuel tanks
    - Single-cylinder startup problem that still has no cure
    - Cold-start issues
    - Airbox sealing issues
    - Numerous software problems (MTC failures, intermittent cruise control failures, ABS failures)
    If you’re one of those guys who reads this post and says “I’ve had a 790 for XXXXX-thousand kms and have never had an issue” then good for you, count yourself lucky. After working on dozens of KTM P-Twin bikes that have come through my shop and speaking to the owners of many more, I can name only one that didn’t have at least two of the problems on that list. It’s a great piece of design that was utterly ruined by corporate structuring…built to a price, not to a spec. It’s still riding the wave of being the best reviewed bike (reviews where editors ride carefully-prepped bikes for one or two days then give them back) in what it arguably the hottest segment in motorcycling right now. Mark my words gentlemen…once that hype fades away, a few years go by, and reality sets in, the first-gen KTM P-Twin WILL be remembered as one of the all-time biggest lemons in motorcycling.

      Tons of bikes out there…. Some have issues others won’t. I think you’re overthinking it all

      @@EverySingleSunday Yes there seems to be a few 890 owners that say theirs has held up just fine. There does seem however to be quite alot of people having problems with the 790/890. I was just wondering how yours is doing if you still have it? Bret Tkacs has sold his due to reliability issues and he is suppose to be some big deal depending who you talk to, also a few others have sold theirs also for the same reason. Thanks for the reply, just was wondering how yours was doing. Thanks!

      @@ericjames7680 I put a new head and valves in mine at just under 10,000 miles. 90% of my miles were hard ridden off-road and singketrack. With that amount of hours and abuse it seemed normal to me.
      Sold the bike a while ago and picked up another T700 to play with

      @@EverySingleSunday I have read that a few people had to replace the valves due to the Rottweiler Performance Intake . There is 26 pages on ADVRIDER FORUMS '' Rottweiler Twin Air = Dust ingestion!!!'' about it. Thanks for the reply.

    What did you do to Travis? Who is this impostor? Seriously though, does your skid plate provide protection after relocating it? It looks like it is pretty good in the other location.

    • @EverySingleSunday
      @EverySingleSunday  4 роки тому

      Once it is up, its in a big pocket away from everything. And the Skid plate is a couple inches below it. In the stock spot it is just above the skid plate and can be damaged by a rock, stick, or just some bad luck

    Africa twin life!!!!!!

    • @FanOWater
      @FanOWater 4 роки тому +1

      My friend broke his AT side stand switch in Death Valley. We fixed it by twisting the wires together and covering it in electrical tape. Wish the 790R was that simple.

    • @aaronswanderlandadventures9561
      @aaronswanderlandadventures9561 4 роки тому

      I'm amazed what this Africa twin will go through for how heavy it is!

  • @bezetuba
    @bezetuba 2 роки тому

    wow, that's simplier than I though, and I don't like. Why not create an electric switch that would solve that? In the end it can't be too complicated what this magnetic switch is doing... And by relocating it we are only relocating the problem, not solving it.

    • @bezetuba
      @bezetuba 2 роки тому +1

      actually, I might have a go and figure it out with a multimeter.... Can't be that hard.
