Our vehicle today is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee (1984-2001 inclusive), and the technique shown here is common to many popular vehicles. Join us for a 10-minute driveway job anyone can do at home with basic tools.

Why didn't you show a before and after? Or at least what you would see at night? I've been looking for an upgrade that doesn't look gaudy and this seems perfect- but without a comparison or at least a demo of what I should expect, I'm still left searching.

I didn't have adequate camera equipment or a good test bed available back when I made this video, but if you want to upgrade from sealed to open-beam halogen the options are limited and all will perform about the same post-upgrade. LEDs are a different story and there are a few options that perform well and don't look sci-fi, including the Holly RetroBright series and TruckLite. I went with TruckLite: ua-cam.com/video/CNQpIr2XJt8/v-deo.html

All of the sealed beam headlights I have used in my xj's for the past 25 years have been halogen..not sure what the big difference would be , except you may have the ability to alter your wattage outputs on the new ones.....IDK....?...Do tell!

Sealed beam units rely on prismatic moldings in the front glass to shape the beam. This cuts the light output slightly. The H4 conversion does all the beam shaping with a more expensive, but re-usable, multi-faceted reflector and clear front lens. It also allows easy use of Silverstar and other high-temperature bulb options that are widely available in the H4 style.

Good video but even though I'm super minimally OCD, I can't believe you didn't clean out the headlight buckets while you were in there. Correct about the metal bezel, it is made out of aluminum foil and I would never just remove 2 screws and bend it. I recently replace mine with DOT approved Hella lights for about $100 for the pair but haven't yet driven at night.

They fill right back up with dirt even if you clean them :-) I've since upgraded to Truck-Lite LEDs. They were pricey and they don't self-defrost, but the light output and beam pattern are fantastic.

The Euro export XJs have these h4 style lights However, they also have a small bulb under the H4 bulb for daytime running lights. My housing have rust damage around the h4 connector going all the way through to the mirrored side of the housing. I want to replace both housing, but I can't find anything like is shown in this video, but with the addition of those two extra holes.

I have never seen those fixtures in the US. US XJ models never had DRL and used sealed beam fixtures to the end of production. If they exist in wrecking yards or aftermarket then you might find them in EU countries, Britain, Japan, Australia...

Do these lights leave a shadow In front of the vehicle? I purchased a similar conversion kit"projector" it had a terrible shadow in front of my truck. I had to have them on high beam just to see to drive.

No "shadow," these are DOT-approved, reflector-driven halogen fixtures that have similar output to the OE sealed beams, but better light transfer. I've since upgraded again to LED fixtures and I bought a good pair (i.e. not the $80 auction-site specials). That video will go live in a few days and will include a quick comparison of beam patterns.

Your music is irritating. Otherwise a good video.

I've never been quite happy with how the music turned out on this video (or my Dana 30 diff breather video, of similar vintage). These are among my early production efforts and refinement comes with practice. I do plan to continue using music on my videos, though, so if you prefer non-music videos in general, I recommend viewing my channel with a good set of earplugs. Cheers!
