      *Sending virtual hugs* You are not alone. The ER doctor told me that there is very little that doctors understand about IBS. Also, she told me that they are not taught about it in medical school which is insane to me. My doctors try to send me to the ER every time I get violently ill. They think I am rich or something. I have to figure things out on my own. That's the frustrating part.

    I’m peri menopausal and am SO GLAD women are talking about these subjects. Me and a couple of coworkers discuss our struggles, but it’s so taboo - women are not allowed to admit they get older because it ain’t sexy. My own mother is self-conscious when I ask her questions.

    Hello Lisa, I loved your video, and I’m looking forward to seeing your follow up videos. I am a functional medicine doctor, and I see patients suffering with similar symptoms. Unfortunately many people suffer for years without getting the help they need. Mostly because many of the lab test used by traditional doctors are geared towards disease treatment. I’m happy you’ve made the connection that it’s mostly what we put into our body that makes the biggest impact. Btw..the joint pain, osteopenia, IBS, brain fog, bloating, gas, etc are your bodies weak links...our body speaks to us letting us know that we’re on fire and need attention. Thanks again for sharing..I love your channel

    Thank you so much Lisa! I can relate to everything you discuss in this video and your other videos. I’m 56 and am going through what you have been through with all the menopausal issues. Also, I’m learning all about IBS and inflammation and how diet relates. Right now I am doing what you used to do as far as eating out, especially Mexican restaurants, and eating a poor diet. I experience IBS, bloating, heartburn, and insomnia. Your videos have been life changing for me in the way I’m changing my thoughts about my poor diet relating to how I feel physically and mentally. I lost 20 pounds as well doing keto and carnivore and I feel fantastic. I’m 5’4” and I’m at 118 lbs now and I’m working on toning up my arms. My legs are pretty strong as I’ve been cycling and using the elliptical machine for almost 6 years. I’m 51 and peri menopausal as well….still having periods but they’re super irregular. My diet is still super clean and I eat mostly red meat, pork, chicken, green veggies like broccoli or Brussels sprouts, rice, oat milk and oat based cereal, berries, apples and not much else! I’m on a super limited number of foods because peri menopause has made me suffer from migraines and chronic daily headaches as well and about a hundred damn foods trigger my pain! No chocolate, nuts, cheese, citrus, bananas, coffee, processed meats like bacon, lunchmeat, hot dogs, msg and soy. It’s super annoying and has been a difficult journey but being out of pain is worth it. I cook 100% of my food as I can’t eat 90% of the foods served in restaurants and fast food joints so the foods I do eat are very fresh and healthful, which is fantastic! You are what you eat. I feel very good about caring for my body as I do and I know my health will remain good so much longer in life.

    Changing our relationship with food is one of the hardest things to do. Quarantine made me cook more too. Cooking is WORK. It takes time and then all the cleaning. If I could I would never eat at home or if I was hella rich I would have a chef lol. But yeah cooking at home is what's best for us. Long term is actually an investment in our own health. I'm happy you were able to change your diet, I know that you've been struggling for a while. My cousin has bad chrons disease and following a strict diet changed her life for the better.

    Animal Nutrition has been my career for the last 35 years. Gut microbiome is directly related to an animals' performance & well being. You are spot on, your brain & gut have a symbiotic relationship. When your gut is "out of wack" your brain suffers. Can't wait your upcoming videos on the subject! thank you!!

      @crystalmccoy7265 3 роки тому

      Barb Peters Hi Barb, I just saw your post where you mentioned your career in animal nutrition. I’m hoping you can perhaps give me some advice? My pup was diagnosed last July 2019 with chronic pancreatitis. She’d had undiagnosed symptoms for years and after my insistence enzymes were checked. Anywho, we were prepped for the worst and I decided to put her on my diet (I’m vegan) and she improved within 3 days. I’m feeding her 3 smaller meals a day of food I prepare- rice, sweet potatoes, spinach. We’ve not had a single episode since and been able to eliminated all of the meds she’d been prescribed. We take her to an animal medical hospital and they think I’m harming her with this diet of no animal protein. But, her results, current bloodwork and general sweet joy say differently. I’m in NC and have been unable to find a nutritionist to consult. the vets here just wanted to medicate her and have me feed her low fat science diet. In your opinion are we ok? Have you ever heard of other plant based dogs thriving? I apologize for this long message and thank you in advance. Best, Crystal McCoy

    • @pohqueen1
      @pohqueen1 3 роки тому

      @@crystalmccoy7265 Hello Crystal!
      Not knowing the specifics on your pup (breed, body condition, etc.) I can comment in general terms. As I’m sure you know, the main function of the pancreas is to digest fats & starches. With a chronic case such as yours, scar tissue replaces the cells of the pancreas causing it to not perform normally. The key is to lower the fat content of the diet to “lessen the load” on the pancreas. With regards to diet, a highly digestible, low fat diet is key. Now to your question regarding a vegan diet, which is not too common with dog owners. Plant protein is the same as animal protein, however dogs, as all other living things, require nutrients, not ingredients. With protein specifically, it is the amino acids in the protein the dog requires. Dogs require 10 essential amino acids. The key is to make sure your ingredients have all those amino acids available. Very few ingredients contain all the required amino acids your dog needs, hence the need for multiple ingredients to supply all the nutrients for a healthy animal. Dogs can thrive on plant based diets, but they need to be carefully formulated, taking into consideration the ingredient itself, as well as the quality of the ingredient to provide the proper nutrients. I know my answer was long, but there are many things to consider. Feeding your dog multiple smaller meals during the day is also very beneficial, good job! I understand your vet’s concern. Commercial diets are carefully formulated to supply the necessary nutrients. Feeding a diet that may be lacking in those necessary nutrients can be detrimental in the long run. Bottom line, it sounds like your pup is doing well with what you are currently doing, however it’s total guesswork on if she’s getting the proper nutrients based on her individual requirements. I wish you the best of luck!

    Very helpful video. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine years ago and we were talking about how people in their 20's, 30's (just starting out) have new vehicles, nice/new homes completely furnished, etc. and my friend said "these young people are starting out with the things that used to take us twenty plus years to get" and I thought that is so right! I am always glad to see people have nice things, especially when those people get up every morning and go to a job of some kind, but I had never thought how much things had changed from when I was a 20 year old in the late 80's, early 90's.

    Lisa, thanks so much for doing this video! I think so many of us struggle with some or all of these same issues and from reading the comments, I see everyone coming together to see each of us are not alone. Love the sharing of information! Cannot wait for the rest of the videos you are doing on this subject!! And yes, please do a video on the "young youtubers and their fabulous homes". That would be very interesting too!

    Thanks for sharing your journey Lisa! Good for you losing 20 pounds! That’s wonderful!! I often wondered the same thing about these young couples who have these fabulous houses that look like they cost a million bucks! So I would love to hear your thoughts on that! You look great! 🥰🥰🥰
