The one thing I notice about all the three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters games is that they all differ from one-another. So imagine of what would happen if Konami actually made an Arcade version of TMNTs Tournament Fighters if they where ever allowed the chance to pull it off back in the mid if not late 1990s?
Oh yeah, memories! My brother and I rented this one back in the day. I still remember April O'Neil's hilarious cat-clawing attacks, and Casey's "So long, loser!" taunt. Yes, I can confirm how cheesy the A.I. is when you use his bomb moves, lol. But more than that, this was just a stupid, silly fun game to play together and something I fondly remember to this day.
I agree. When we were young playing any game with friends was awesome. We tried to master the "brokenness" of the game and still find a way to beat our friends, or beat co-op games alongside them.

Like you say in your description, the grittiness/edge of the art style and characters in this game is great. I would play this with my friends back in the day. It's no Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat 2, but it's fun nonetheless.
I gotta admit, I LOVE the ost in this game. lots of bangers. I actually prefer it over the SNES version as this music is more my thing. tho I do like a lot of songs from that game too. but themes like Krang, Casey, Ralph, Mikey, the second Karai theme, Triceration, Leo... lots of good stuff. otherwise tho as an actual fighting game, definitely think the SNES version is a lot better.
I think this is how game should look like, something simple and unreal, modern game are so perfect and in the pursuit of perfection, it lost it purpose of being just for entertainment.
It would be great if the combat system was flexible and had actual combos, however I love the visuals and appeal of this game, the soundtrack is quite the bop! This game deserves to be remade on the MUGEN engine, where we will have a better and smoother fighting gameplay finally while keeping the same look from the source game.
Oh dear. Not every outing is a winner in the classic TMNT era, and this game was the unlucky one. Which is a shame, it has pretty interesting elements going for it. A unique planet traveling adventure plot setting, a stylish and gritty art design resembling the Mirage Studios comics, and a great funky and upbeat soundtrack. The gameplay is what brought the experience down immensely as it was unbalanced and broken. The AI is annoyingly cheap even on the easiest difficulty. So if you want to beat them to see the end, you gotta cheap em out. Also, this was the only TMNT game that Shredder did not appear in it at all.
@@edwardgaines6561 yea this game and the SNES TF were the first time they brought Karai in any other TMNT media outside of the comics. And you are correct, in this game she looks way different than what she originally looked in her comic debut and in the SNES game.
Personally I prefer the genesis version. There is more strategy in the fights and the stages are more creative. The Snes version is generic and not very memorable.

Tbh tmnt hyperstone heist wasn't all that either on the genesis both tmnt genesis games just didn't get as much love put in them as the SNES counter parts

Whenever I read a bad review about this game is because the critic didn't know how to use the speed/power system. Speed at 8 and power at 1 it becomes like any other game
The speed/power ratings thing is what kills this game for me. Particularly because there's no indication whatsoever that your Power rating also affects your speed. They make it look (purposefully deceivingly?) like you can make your character super strong and super fast, but no. And also because of the speed/power rating stuff, instead of every character's strengths and weaknesses being played against one another, the AI is just a cheap bastard. Odd little tidbit: The SNES version is about a tournament and its participating fighters. The Genesis version is about a series of fights between several mutant warriors. But the Super Famicom version is called "Mutant Warriors" and the Mega Drive version is called "Tournament Fighters". Huh...
I thought the SNES Version only has the tournaments version of the TMNT Tournament Fighters. But I can or cannot be sure If they have the same sounds and same soundtrack.

Is this game any good? I think sega megadrive lacks from good fighting games compared to snes, except the traditional street fighter/mortal kombat games.
I kept thinking i was crazy and made it up. Every time i talked about a ninja turtles fighting game i had this in my mind, but my friends would always brought up the Snes version. I only got to play this once while staying the night at a friends house as a kid and the visuals always stuck in my head. (seeing it now , i see why lol sheesh....) I never knew there where drastically different versions and i finally feel vindicated lol
It'll be a game I'll do a full playthrough, then never play it again I predict if it's that cheap of a title. I'll probably stick with the SNES and NES versions more.

It's difficult to pull off special moves that the CPUs have no trouble with, whatsoever, and the fact that you only get the good ending by playing the hardest difficulty is ludicrous. The soundtrack and graphics are okay, but I'd rather play the vastly superior SNES version. At least you don't have to play the hardest level just to see the good ending _there._
This is far from the worst fighting game ever. Just look at Dangerous Streets, Shadow: War of Succession, Human Killing Machine or Survival Arts and this game looks like a masterpiece in comparison.
And it's also why the SNES version of Tournament Fighters have gotten online multiplayer over both the NES & the Genesis versions in the Cowabunga Collection.
The Super Nintendo version way better tho.. I still enjoyed the Genesis version as well. Good thing about today's systems at least you get the same game 😂
This game was not very good. It has it cliche memorable traits about it (some sound effects, chants, music) but that’s about it. The game is stiff, the art style is puke garbage and the mechanics are terrible. Even the story sucks.

So is this the worst Konami TMNT game? It's certainly got its gritty 90s Genesis charm, and version-exclusive characters, but the SNES version is clearly superior. Interesting that Karai is the villain for a change. This game definitely takes more inspiration from the comics than the cartoon like most games did.
Maybe such a kind of those movements could be happen too in the 3rd TMNT movie. 🦾👾🎀 Especially when we talk about the upcoming release date from Michael Bay.

The Leonardo stage Bio planet looks like the final boss of Super C. And Raphael stage looks like the magma boss from Axelay.

In my opinion the game was rushed cause theirs alot of things they could've done.
Interestingly, Karai is the final boss in both the Sega and SNES versions, but her design and movement couldn't be more different.

Google this games title with boss hack in it, and you’ll find a patch that makes them selectable. The boss stages are also selectable in vs mode.

I felt that way about all three of the Tournament Fighters games. I like them and all, but all three rosters are kinda weird imo.
Think about it this way. Each re-iteration of TMNT Tournament Fighters was like Pokémon Red, Yellow, & Blue. If they were all the same, why buy all 3?
