    2:23 But that study was mostly about adults, very few of the patients were minors. This study was a meta analysis, and they actually provided the mean age of the patients in the studies reviewed. And in most of the studies, the mean age was over 18 (usually in the 20s, 30s, and 40s)They also gave a list of the reasons given by the patients who regretted it, and 17 out 77 patients had regret due to social issues like not being accepted. The 60 other patients had regret due to things like disappointment with the operation and finding out they’re not trans.

    One thing I would say that Republicans should mind their darn business and not mess about with people private medical issues. This stuff really should be between the patient and their doctor. It is just amusing to see the "Party of small government" making laws to put the government into places it has no business in.

      It is a must, in fact most medical boards have very strict guidelines for surgery... one of the requirements is being at least 18, or in case of a severe case and the person is underage parental and in some places therapist consent.

    • @hannajung7512
      @hannajung7512 Рік тому +10

      absolutly, these surgeries should be only with the consent of the person that is having them. Why I think circumcissions are wrong, and genital surgery on new born intersex children that is not functionally necessary is a crime.
      Trans children though are neither getting them without consent nor without necessity. They are actually pretty hard to convince a surgeon to do them when you are an adult, because of the longterm implications surgeons want to be very sure you REALLY know you want it befor they perform bottom surgery. Top surgery is a lot easier to get, but still much harder then cis people that want breast rediction or enhancement for aesthetic purposes.
      So this is really more an intersex allyship problem, then a trans health care problem, that children get surgeries of their genitals without their consent and without medical necessity.

    children do not have the same rights as adults as they are not adults that can make adult decisions such as changing their gender (which is an adult decision). this point falls flat just based of that premise. because its not about whether the kid regrets it or not, for 1, the parent should have control over whatever's happening to their kids natural born biology and for 2 ., kids are easily influenced into doing something they MIGHT regret in the long run so it is BETTER to at least wait for them to turn 18 at the VERY least. gender dysphoria is a mental illness. and to be honest im not really sure how cherry picked those statistics are, either way it does not matter because wanting to switch genders was not a thing until it was publicly made available to the masses, you didnt see people walking around in the 2000s and the 90s talking about how they were trapped in the opposite sexs' body it just wasnt a thing. if you want to do that after you turn 18 almost no one cares, but when you do stuff like parades yelling "we're coming for your kids" and dance nude in front of children it doesnt really help your case.

    Here in Austin, TX, we have doctors leaving their jobs at a local children’s hospital because they fear they’ll be arrested for simply providing legitimate medical treatment to minors. The Dell Children’s Medical Center now has no doctors in its adolescent medicine clinic. NO doctors. Teenagers with all sorts of needs - including but not limited to trans teens - have been left with no one to treat them, no one to provide prescription medication for them.
    This is exactly what Republicans want.
    Republicans in Texas already make it nearly impossible for poor people to get medical care. The state refused to expand Medicaid back when the federal government was paying for said expansion at the start of the ACA. Republicans want poor people to die. Now they want trans kids to die, too. Not shocking considering how much Republicans love seeing schoolchildren blown away by assault weapons. Our state’s legislature is about to conclude its session having passed no bills that would restrict gun sales to mentally ill people in any way, yet they’ve been able to tackle the huge scourges of trans kids and books that mention gay people in any way.
    Republicans are evil. They claim to believe in this magical Jesus-fairy who commanded them to care for the poor and the sick (and to welcome immigrants and foreigners) yet they act in exactly the opposite way. That’s vile. Reprehensible. And they’re not only unconcerned about this behavior; they take great pride in how evil they can be.
    VOTE, people! We have to get Republicans out of office. The LGBTQ+ community is being actively harmed by these Republicans. The only way to stop this is for decent, intelligent people to get out and vote in Democrats. Both parties are NOT the same. Both are not just as bad. Democrats are not trying to prevent doctors from doing what they deem best for their patients. And for the kids who genuinely choose of their own accord, how do we know and make sure their definition of identity is long term and not just what they feel moment to moment at random intervals? I mean, they _are_ kids, those guys can be pretty impulsive sometimes. Genuinely asking.
    And to continue on this little spree, let's assume that even a minority of clinics affirm kids' desired gender by exagerating their fleeting emotional desire. Now that kid has options to choose life altering decisions. To substitute such decisions, what'd be the difference if it was alcohol, or even tattoos? It's ok to let minors transition but not get booze or tattoos? I mean, the whole point of the concept of 'minor' is to say that under a certain age, people don't have the extensive, detailed representation of how the world works and a sufficiently sophisticated level of reasoning and analyzing to make calculated, long term decisions, as opposed to, essentially, a hedonistic approach to decision making. I mean, when you let minors under 18, which includes 7 yearl olds btw, into gender affirmation clinics, you guys are treading a _very fine_ line between breaking an unspoken law or not. Of course, this is all merely under the assumption that your gender affirmations are careless in their methods and encouraging of hedonism, which has yet been proven.

If you want fewer children undergoing "permanent" GAC, you need to normalize gender non-conforming presentation. Let people be who they want to be, and support them doing so. Floridan Republicans are basically forcing all transgender people in Florida into detransition.

      At the ages of 11-25, the human brain goes through a rewiring process during puberty. During this time, one of the first few regions of the brain to go through changes is the Limbic system, or the reward region. This regions function is to provide an individual with a feel good emotion when they are rewarded, say from a like, a view, a thumbs up, or approval. However, at this time of development, the prefrontal cortex has yet to go through proper changes & is under developed. The prefrontal cortex is reasonable for reason & weighing the differences between risk & reward. This is why teens are more reckless, more susceptible to addiction, & make LOTS of stupid mistakes. Example: the tide pod challenge. Any adult knows that eating a tide pod is extremely dangerous. But teens, who were the demographic doing the challenge, wanted the likes, the views, the popularity of doing the "hip new thing". This is also why things like voting, drinking, smoking, marriage, joining the military, & driving have age restrictions. Because children are still developing, & they can not make life long decisions that come with serious consequences

      There are lots of places where you can get married very young, there are places where you can start driving at 15, join the military at 17, (some places you can even join three months before you turn 17).
      The age for buying alcohol and tobacco depends on which country you're in as well.
      A lot of countries will put a kid in front of a judge if they commit a crime - FFS, in the US there're several places kids will be put on trial as adults if the crime is severe enough!
      Now, in contrast to crime and eating tied pods to get likes - Gender Affirming Care is something a individual can only get while being in contact with healthcare professionals who's work and recommendations are based on decades of clinical experience and research.
      The diagnostic criteria and recommendations regarding best practice set in WHO ICD-11 is literally based on input from highly experienced specialists from within a variety of different fields of medicine - based on decades of research and clinical experiences!
      But somehow you still want to conflate it with kids doing stupid things for likes!
      Now if that's the kind of respect you have for the field of medicine - then you should never ever get an appointment with a doctor!

    Being trans has many many many things that come with it and it's not something a child can easily understand, especially after surgery with all the caveats the individual will have to put up with.
    Becoming trans is a serious life decision that includes more than just "feeling" and counts an entire change of habits with society expectations.
    Take it from me having the experience with someone that has fully transitioned, life is good but it had it's really hard challenges.
    I wouldn't let someone have HRT until they are at least 16 year of age and have full comprehension of things to come.
    Forget just counting people who don't "regret" their change, there are people who are genuinely distressed and have attempted suicide to which is not just "public shaming" to blame, HRT really can screw with your body just as much as your mental.

Not letting trans people transition causes high depression rates and suicide attempts.
      You don't understand anything about transition or trans people, we are the LAST people who would force someone to live as a gender that they are not. We do not "become trans", we are **born trans**. We take the steps nessacary to be who we are.
      I would not hate my body as much as I do now if I had've been able to transition when I was younger. Transition for kids is never anything permanent. Puberty blockers are things a child can just come off and their bio puberty will start. Hormones are a thing that typically happen at 16 or older, with **informed consent**, we are told the positive and negative effects and it is our choice to go through that. Surgery doesn't happen until after 18 in most places and you need several notes from doctors to say that you are capable and sound of mind in understanding what will happen.

      Secondly, I would argue the statistics here. Transgender children who receive support are actually statistically less suicidal than the average cis child, whereas gun restrictions in countries that implement them have lower rates of school shootings in first world OECD nations. The argument isn't that of "mental competency" and entirely that of the outcomes of such policy. And before you go ahead and immediately assume I want full fledged gun bans, the way gun restrictions should work is a licensing system, as you would for driving. A person who wishes to purchase a gun needs to present that

      @@smaakjeks A few years ago, the process of gender reassignment (also referred to as gender reassignment, gender transition or gender reassignment) was routinely performed in Sweden by minors experiencing gender dysphoria, i.e. discomfort or suffering caused by non-acceptance of their biological sex. However, the Karolinska Institute - a prestigious medical university and university hospital known for awarding Nobel Prizes in medicine or physiology - has abandoned such a permissive and affirmative approach. Let's start with some facts. New recommendations of the Karolinska Institute, relating primarily to the Children's Hospital of Astrid Lindgren, ended the previous practice of prescribing puberty blockers and sex hormones to people with gender dysphoria before the age of eighteen. The previous affirmative approach (according to which a child or teenager knows for himself who he feels and wants to be and can consciously decide to change his sex) was rejected, leaving the path open only as part of individual experimental procedure.
      The Karolinska Institute decided to do this after Finland abandoned its gender reassignment policy for minors in 2020. Its Health Authority (Palveluvalikoima, Council for Choices in Health Care in Finland) reviewed the research and concluded that there is no conclusive evidence that the administration of puberty blockers and sex hormones improves the situation of patients. Concerns also came from British scientists, doctors and psychologists. The British NHS (National Health Services) commissioned an independent report. Its result indicated that drugs used for gender transition can cause serious side effects. Many of them occur often, and not - as we used to think about side effects - once in several thousand people. All these countries are very progressive and yet something has started to change. Maybe it's because scientists, not activists, have finally tackled this topic? I did not mention similar changes in France, Scotland or Spain.

      @PawkoZielarz Рік тому +3

      @@smaakjeks As for the meta-analysis you mentioned, yes, that's the kind of crap Stick keeps repeating. There are a number of serious reasons why these figures are dramatically underestimated. The main one concerns the methodological survivability error. It consists in the fact that the study of the percentage of detransition - i.e. the percentage showing how many people revert their gender change - includes people who have legally changed their sex and then returned to their true gender. Meanwhile, a lot of people give up gender transition before changing their identity documents. These people are usually not included in such studies. To visualize the scale of the survival bias, let's imagine a hypothetical example where out of 100 people starting a gender transition, only 20 make a record (i.e. legal) change in documents, and the remaining 80 reverse the process before deciding to take legal action. Then of those 20 people, one reverses the gender change, while the other 19 stick to it. The official statistics will therefore state that only 5% of people (one in twenty) detransition, while in reality in this example it would be 81% (81 people out of 100). Proponents of gender reassignment often refer to research studies looking at how many people reverted their gender transition five years after starting it, which usually indicate a few percent of those surveyed. Meanwhile, “there is some evidence that people revert their gender on average 4 or 8 years after a complete gender transition” (R. Hall et al. “Access to care and frequency of detransition among a cohort discharged by a UK national adult gender identity clinic: retrospective case-note review.” BJPsych Open (2021)). I know a man who reverted his sex change after 8 years, so if he were included in such a 5-year research period, he would also add to the "satisfied" statistics.

    I have followed you through all sorts of crank-busting arguments based on science and reason, and I have generally found nothing serious to criticize, but I fear you may have lost track of reason here. At the age of sixty, I am well aware that I have made many blunders in my life, but I made most of the big ones before I was 30. A good many of them could be attributed to peer-group pressure, especially in my teenage years, but I also made some bad on-the-spot decisions that came close to ruining my life. Teenage decisions are almost always bad ones, and the bigger such decisions are, the more wide-ranging and long-lasting their consequences are likely to be. Indeed, even seemingly small decisions can have huge knock-on effects, and teenagers often don't appreciate the import of their whims. The American prison system is testimony to that fact. Why is any of this relevant? Well, because adolescence and early adulthood are confusing times for almost everybody. A wealth of experience and emotions wash over us for ten or twenty years, and few of us are mentally equipped to get through them all and emerge unscathed and largely satisfied. • @AutoGamerZ_
      @AutoGamerZ_ Рік тому +7

      Sure, if you present the matter like that, both inaccurately stating what gender affirming care for minors typically involves, and then subsequently treat gender affirming care as a minor basically just making decisions about irreversible changes, which they may as well regret, while one would typically not utilise the same train of thought for other medical treatments that are considered medically necessary, you're going to get a situation that sounds pretty messed up: You'd essentially end up somewhat equivocating gender affirming care with getting a tattoo, or cosmetic body modification, rather then a more accurate equivocation (both regarding the standards of ethics & consent used, as well as regarding medical necessity) to treatment of other medical conditions, which may also come with considerable, permanent, irreversible effects.
      I could give due background about gender dysphoria, what gender affirming care *actually* looks like for minors and the guidelines for how, when and why it is utilised; and I gladly will if you'd like me too, but it really isn't necessary to make a basic statement against what the GOP is doing:
      The major medical associations, who are responsible for and trusted to make these guidelines because they are the ones with both the clinical expertise and expertise on the medical ethics at hand, recommend gender affirming care be available to minors within (many) strict guidelines. Politicians are expected not to create laws that interfere with those medical guidelines because they are not the ones with the relevant clinical & medical ethics expertise to make those decisions; and creating laws that strictly set guidelines in stone (even if they'd agree with the medical associations), makes it difficult to change the rules if the ethical views of the scientific community change based on new evidence, if treatment options change and/or if knowledge about conditions, as well as making it impossible for doctors and other providers of care to depart from the guidelines to meet the needs of individual patients, which is sometimes needed when patients have unique circumstances, abnormal symptoms, don't respond to treatment, can't have regular treatments and/or have several conditions at once. (That's a big part of the reason why guidelines, rather then laws, dictate how treatments are given to begin with.) When the law tries to enforce matters *against* scientific consensus & medical guidelines, you end up with a situation that forces doctors to act against their oath, and in which getting patients that are even close to a grey area with the law end up potentially denied treatments because doctors risk persecution by the state if they treat their patients, often with severe consequences for patients, which may include death, depending on what matters the law is regulating.
      That's not just an issue with gender affirming care bans; it's an issue with (most) abortion bans & restrictions we've seen in recent times too.

Alcohol, tobacco, guns, drugs are just a few things some kids want. Though he is promoting this new gender bender ideology, so maybe he just doesn’t care about kids and likely has none himself. Surprisingly fair about the abortion issue for a blue hair though. All of the studies they reference are new, mostly because this issue wasn’t an issue until very recent in human psychology. No other country than the US pushes this now, the European areas stopped it because of the data he neglects. It is a non issue, like 5+ years ago, everywhere else in the world.

      In case you’re unfamiliar with ICD-11 it’s the result of consensus among leading experts in the fields from more than 50 countries!
      Just because a couple of countries has, for purely political reasons and against the recommendations of leading experts in the field, made it considerable harder to access Gender Affirming Care, doesn’t change the fact that after decades of research and clinical experience, it’s what specialists from more than 50 countries recommend!

    1) Transitioning:
    Please be aware that we don’t have the ability to “change anyone’s gender” using current technology. The word “transitioning” shouldn’t be used, as it causes confusion, instead it should be called “mimicking” or trying to imitate the opposite gender while remaining biologically the same initial gender) using life long hormonal injections (causing numerous side effects) and cosmetic procedures. Why not avoid all the side effects by just wearing make up and opposite gender clothing?
    We cannot change gender at the DNA level or transplant an uterus or testes to the opposite gender, using current technology. Sadly it’s unlikely that we will ever be able to change anyone’s gender even using future technologies, also.
    Sadly small groups of gender activists are trying to misinform people about the ability to transition to the opposite gender just by choosing what you want. Unless medically advised due to medical issues, we should never take hormones and/or alter any part of our body. These anti-medical self choice transitioning procedures will create numerous problems to many people, lawsuits and many medical professionals will be put in prison while losing their medical licence.
    Let’s accept what nature provided us and be as happy as we can with it, no one is what we would like to be, and that’s ok.
    2) Abortion:
    If an organism is attached to you, taking your nutrients and affecting your body in many ways, it’s your choice to agree to keep this organism or not. However, killing the baby is not acceptable also, and so, the option to remove the baby and transfer to an artificial womb would be the best solution.

      Gender =/= sex.
      Two different concepts. Have been for a long time in academic literature.
      Yes we can actually transplant genetilia, we have done it before successfully plenty times. The procedure has not yet been perfected however. Do not underestimate medical science. We were told that heart transplants, or organ transplants in general were impossible.
      Hormones are reversible.
      The male and female body are identical in operation, they are not that dissimilar. The difference in gender identity comes down to hormonal differences and how the brain's chemistry is.
      There are thousands of genes that control sex expression. Not just the X or Y chromosome, which largely do not a whole lot. It is completely possible for someone, and happens frequently, that a woman is born with the XY chromosome pair, but lacks the SRY gene. Which largely controls male sex expression. Sywer Syndrome. Same things happens with XX males but they have the SRY gene.
      Biology is not as simple as people believe. And so long as you have one X chromosome, you can have any number of others.
      Plus several genes that change how your body releases or reacts to hormones - which is where most of sex expression comes from. This means there can be a disparity from the brain to the body - where transsexualism comes from.
      Transsexualism is a form of intersexualism in a sense. Where we have observed hormonal, and genetic differences in those individuals. DSM defines it as a disorder on the level of ASD. Where the brain has developed atypically due to some difference in genetics.
      We shouldn't ever settle for what we have. If we did humans would have gone nowhere. We should always push to be the best, and happiest version of ourselves.
      It comes with the territory of clinical depression as a result of server dysphoria. Not treating this leads to people harming themselves. They literally cannot "be happy with what they have." That is a silly argument and must be born from "nothing is wrong for me, therefore nothing is wrong at all for anyone."
      Otherwise you must also want to deny depressed people antidepressants, which have several side affects and you will be on them likely life long.
      Against ASD and ADHD people from taking their medications, as again there are side affects and is life long.
      These conditions, disorders, and genetic differences are complicated, and often misunderstood by the average person. Which is not a bad thing necessarily, it is just that the average person doesn't need to understand them in detail.
      We should be striving to help everyone achieve good mental health. This is what medical and mental health standards have advised for transsexualism, and all disorders and for mental health since the 80s. And even before that were doctors studying and trying to understand it.
      It's imperative that we understand these things, and help those in need. As self harm rates are increasing across the board. Not deny people the care they need and worsen the situation.
      L take.

      @@xenokyomi Incorrect information given, hormone therapy is "not reversible" and carries many "side effects". As a new method, we are still discovering more and more side effects of this misuse of medical resources.
      Genitalia are not transplanted in most cases, it's just cut or changed to "appear" the opposite gender. How many trans-women have an implanted uterus and implanted vagina as close to 0% as 0% can be, these procedures are experimental and shouldn't be advised in schools or anywhere else, without the presence of a non-biased panel of medical professionals.
      Your point about someone genetically born as a male XY chromosome, is a completely different scenario compared to telling people that they can "choose" which gender they want to be or "identify". If there is a medical issue, a "non-woke" medical professional will provide unbiased advice.
      Please don't promote misinformation, unless you want to be personally liable to deal with the "side effects" of these experimental procedures.

    • @xenokyomi
      @xenokyomi Рік тому +3

      @googleuser3620 The point about differing genetics is a point on how biology is not as simple as people are led to believe. Sex is a bimodal distribution with bias to the extremes. It is a point on how these things are genetic, and the disparity between the brain and the body is completely possible. And that the idea of gender identity is a different subject that can have disparity to the body or genetic makeup. This is precisely how transsexualism is, a disparity between the body and the brain, even having disparity between the associated norm and expected norm for genetics. As seen in that example I gave also.
      I would like to point out that you are correct on how we cannot change someone's genetics, but you fail to realise there is genetic evidence for transsexualism being a likely case of intersexualism. Which yes, we cannot change. People are born like this.
      Yes, genitals are not transplanted widely, yet, I was saying that unlike what you believe, it is completely possible and we have done it before. The idea that it is impossible is silly, as it was deemed impossible to do a lot of things that we do commonly now. I never made any mention that it should be taught to children, nice strawman.
      Hormones are reversible, as much as we can change them now, we can revert most if not all those changes in the same way. Side affects are inherent of any and all medication. However like most medications, they are reversible. Anything that changes brain or body chemistry to help stabilise someone in some way is completely reversible. We do it all the time. And we are procuring different medication and things of that nature every year, so what exactly?
      Dexamphetamine, Lisdexamphetamine, methylphenidate, atomoxetine, guanfacine, dexmethylphenidate, dextroamphetamine. Are all given to children and adults by the way to treat other mental disorders. All with their side affects and complications. If you're against hormone therapy (which is not necessarily for transsexualism) then you are, by nature, against medicating children or people with amphetamines for the same reasons. Because by your standard, medication that regulates or changes brain chemistry is "non-resersable" and is 'experimental' with 'side affects'. No shit Sherlock that medications have side affects by the way. Which is all medications under the sun. Where is the distinction here?
      You say its a misuse of the medical system and resources. Then may I enquire what isn't a misuse? I fail to see how if a doctor prescribes a medication under good pre-tense, and provides support for an individual, how that is a misuse. That is exactly what it is there for.
      I work in this field, don't lecture me on what you believe is false. The fact that you use language like "non-woke" tells me that you subject yourself to your own biases and ideology only and fail to see how medical standards like DSM, and other world governing bodies for medical diagnosis and treatment disagree with you. This idea that people just outright ignore doctors and professionals in their field to push their idealogical valves against people getting treatments and the help they require to live happy normal lives, is ridiculous and frankly disgusting. Stay in your own lane, and leave the people who are on medication alone to discuss and deal with their doctors. A stranger on the internet with no qualifications shouldn't be trying to push medical advice (which I am not doing unlike what you think, I am not saying someone *should* do this, I am saying it is a valid method of treatment and people should trust their doctors). Using your words here, "don't promote misinformation, unless you want to be responsible."
      You have a fundamental misunderstanding of all of this, and the fact that you didn't address my points properly shows this.
      "Nothing is wrong for me, I'm happy, so how could there be anything wrong for anyone else" is your initial argument boiled down. It is like saying "You're depressed? Well I'm not, so just don't be sad." Frankly ridiculous. Your point on why people get medication and don't just wear different clothes and put on make up completely misses the point. Again it is like saying "Depression? Why get antidepressants? Just eat better." You are referring to someone who has a medical disorder, where there is significant irregularities in chemistry. Wearing different clothes does not address the imbalance or irregularities in the brain.
      You lack the understanding of how this truly affects someone to no fault of your own.

    3:13 There is one flaw with your arguments. You do not transition from male to female, or from female to man. You transition from one gender to none. Or best a facsimile of the other.* Which is also the reason why you can't transition back.
    Of course, teens should have access to everything that can be undone later, and better have two or three professionals look over it than one. But if you cut it off, then it's off. And it will never regain 100% functionality. As far as I know, the part of the brain that deals with consequences and risks is only fully developed at age 21. … And only then you should be allowed to get permanent modifications to your body. (And I include piercings and tattoos in that list)
    More studies have to be done about that. Maybe we also can get to the bottom why some people think that some body parts aren't theirs and want them chopped off (e.g., arm/legs). I hope in future a cure or a full transition will be possible. Though, that'll be a far future, no one today alive will be seeing, even if they become 120 years old.
    *= To be honest here, to anyone transitioning that looks like the gender they transitioned to, come swaths of people that look like bad cross dressers. E.g., tons of people where nobody thinks that's a woman, but everybody thinks that's a (hairy) dude in a dress.
