      Yes, that’s true, but the point of the statement is more that my right to act entirely as I please ends the moment my actions have some non-zero effect on others, as this is generally the point when we as a society conclude it is acceptable for the state to interfere with such behavior.

      Just wait for vaccines. People are already arguing that we shouldn't take them because we don't know the long term effect when "healthy people are strong enough to survive the virus; there's this friend of a woman who was sick for five weeks from Covid and survived." We know that there are quite often quite horrific lasting long term effects, sometimes deadly, from Covid for heavy cases much less awful than the one from that person's argument, like brain damage, damaged heart, etc.

      @Sweet Science! what makes you say that? There is nothing inherently life threatening about staying home. Essential services like (but not limited to) police, fire departments, and ambulances would still be operational.
      The virus on the other hand has already proven itself to be life threatening. A quarter of a million people are dead from it in the US alone. Notice that countries that did have very strict lockdowns are already back to living mostly normal lives? The reason that doctors and public health experts suggested social distancing and staying home as much as possible is because it would save many lives. Do you think these people dedicated their lives to public health only to forget to model the effects of their solutions on the very public whose health they are trying to safeguard? You are exemplifying the Dunning-Kruger effect. You are so ignorant of the field that you think you’re an expert.

      @Sweet Science! we need a second lockdown for people like you. Yes, we cannot keep the economy locked down, yes, people need social interaction. So what happend with the first lockdown is there was a deal as it where, "if you follow these basic rules, such as wear a mask, stay 2 meters apart, ect. We will lighten the lockdown" and so people like you took it as the lockdown is done, and made a second spike in cases. Oh, and for how it started? If you want to get political, it started due to pour information spreading from the chinese government. If you want to look at it logically, it originated from some other animal, the virus made its way to humans, most likely from an intermediate animal, and then im sure you know how water borne diseases spread... or maybe you dont since you seem to not even know how masks work

      @Sweet Science! It's always died with and in general the question is could covid be considered a factor or not. If you died in a car accident and had covid most don't treat that as a cause of death. But a heart attack or pneumonia could be a result of complications from your current covid case. I'll accept that coroners and doctors know how to fill out the proper paperwork and the CDC knows the difference.

    • @KateeAngel
      @KateeAngel 3 роки тому +12

    • @sanc6284
      @sanc6284 3 роки тому +4

      @Sweet Science! I looked up the numbers for Ireland. I don't know what steps your gov took, but I'm in the US. I've watched my state's cases skyrocket and I've talked to nurses and doctors who've worked in the overrun hospitals. It's bad here. People aren't usually dying of "just covid". It's almost always complications due to covid, or a clot caused by covid, or some other disease due to a weakened immune system after fighting covid. Covid strains the body and in the elderly this is particularly harmful as it doesn't take much to throw something else in their bodies out of sorts.
      I'm glad that you guys have a good test and low cases. But please consider that your country's total cases are equivalent to one of our country's middle of the road states. Our experiences is from the deep trenches. We have over 10M cases as a country with a 1-2% death rate and our government is trending towards herd immunity. We have concerns not just about covid related deaths but deaths due to lack of hospital access for other patients.
      The stuff your saying sounds like what many Americans were saying back in April. Go look at our deaths and cases back then.

    • @sanc6284
      @sanc6284 3 роки тому +2

      @Sweet Science! Just so we're clear, you are aware that herd immunity through exposure will result in more deaths, right? Like around 1-4% of all infected dead would be the most likely. That's a lot of dead people to achieve that type of herd immunity. Why not wait for the vaccine? Or you could also limit long contact enough to prevent the disease could die out much like ebola.

      @O Programador Astuto A ideia da máscara nunca foi impedir as partículas de entrarem, e sim dificultar a saída delas. Uma pessoa com covid que expira usando máscara vai expulsar muito menos partículas que podem contagiar outras pessoas. É por isso que todo mundo deveria usar máscara. Você não sabe se está com o vírus até ser tarde demais, e se você saiu por ai sem máscara é muito maior a chance de contaminar alguém, mesmo que essa pessoa contaminada esteja de máscara. O fato da máscara impedir um pouco a entrada de partículas é um benefício negligente do uso dela, e não é o principal motivador pro uso dela.

    • @TheHqextreme

      @O Programador Astuto Eu provavelmente discordo com quase tudo que você falou, exceto a parte das grandes grandes empresas estarem usando a pandemia para ter lucro (o que ninguém argumentou o contrário ou pediu provas) e não pretendo rebater porque francamente estou com preguiça. Mas mesmo se você estivesse certo sobre tudo isso, sobre ser antiético, sobre condicionar pessoas ao medo, sobre o governo se aproveitar disso para ser tirânico, o que isso tem a ver com o fato que eu expliquei que máscaras diminuem o risco de contágio? Você falar que é "só" um pano na cara é uma maneira ruim de desviar do que eu falei. Se você assoprar na sua mão sem nada no meio do caminho e fazer isso de novo com uma máscara é obvio o resultado. Se você acha tirânico fazer pessoas usarem máscara beleza, sua opinião. Mas a eficiência do uso das máscaras é comprovado cientificamente com diversos estudos corroborando essa ideia.
      Quanto ao fato de você perder o emprego, eu sinto muito por isso. Eu também estou cheio de problemas devido a quarentena. Eu tive uma semana de aula na faculdade e o virus começou a se espalhar no Brasil fazendo a faculdade ter que fechar e dar aulas a distancia, o que está sendo horrível. Além disso vários conhecidos meus pegaram e muitos chegaram a falecer.

    Mitigation measures wouldn't be as restrictive if people had followed the simpler guidelines in the first place. We are in a lockdown because too many people failed to socially distance, restrict themselves to support bubbles, restrict their movements to only essential travel, and failed to wear cloth masks.
    And CF is quoting the false belief that wearing a cloth mask has significant long term negative consequences. I've seen people test their VO2 levels over hours while wearing a cloth mask, and the effect is negligible. It doesn't support the idea that wearing a cloth mask leads to hypoxia.

      UA-cam AI decided that Computing forever's video on irish nationalism is a great "suggested next video" for the weirdo misandrist bloke's video.

      The reason the vid got posted on Discord was to do with the subject of misrepresentation and how it can harm the image of an idea:
      In that case it was how fem-extremists give a bad name to what was the common idea about feminism being to do with equality and independence and how instead the misrepresentation essentially turns the good ideas into hate-speech ._.

After arriving I didn't leave the bedroom we were in on the second floor without wearing a mask. Then again till we arrived at my love's house so that ended up being the better part of 40 hours wearing a mask. By the logic of the mask bad because breathing in your own co2 or whatever they say I should have been dead and on the flight home I once again wore a mask for about 28 hours straight. So once again I should be dead. Coming home My flight number was AC690 and the flight from the day before and the one a few days later all had cases of covid from people coming back from working in Alberta AKA Canada's Texas. Coming home I had to sign legal documents saying I would quarantine for 14 days. The cops came by to make sure I was. That's how serious we are taking it here. -240,000+ lives in the US alone. That's more than the entire population of Boise. An entire city's worth of people gone.
    -hundreds of thousands of people not suffering from chronic fatigue and other long term effects.
    -shorter harsh quarantine measures
    -hospitals not getting completely overwhelmed to the point of having to refuse gravely ill patients.
    I sure do wonder which one is the right choice.

      Cost:
      -Suicide rates at record highs
      -Mass unemployment and poverty
      -Breakdown of supply chains, leading to food being destroyed.
      -Homelessness.
      -Black communities having their homes and businesses burned to the ground in mostly peaceful protests.
      Benefit:
      -Questionable life savings at best. Considering you can compare death rates to covid by state. And then check which states locked down on a different site.
      -Centralizing authority
      -Realizing that the "flatten the curve" talking point has died half a year ago.

      Someone without a job suddenly has a lot of time to get deranged on social media, find a group of like minded individuals, and all the free time in the world to mostly peacefully protest.
      You can compare the states that had the most severe lock downs to the states that had the worst, and most long-lived of mostly peaceful protests.
      Of course there's a common factor being party affiliation of the region. But nothing is caused by only one thing.

    I have psoriasis yet I can still wash my hands, with no adverse reactions as I use pure glycerine soap. The main dermatological irritants in most soaps are added perfumes, oils, colourants, and lanolin - often used as a moisturiser. All of these are completely unnecessary, and as long as people with dermatological complaints use pure soaps, there is no excuse for not washing their hands properly.
    I often cringe when I hear comparisons to flu. What do they mean by "flu"? Do they mean a heavy "flu like" cold, which most of us get but recover from, and which is commonly known as "the flu"? Or do they mean actual influenza, which is indeed a killer which can strike down anyone of any age. As we know from 100 years ago, influenza can even kill physically fit young men, trained to be soldiers. I doubt our friend here has ever known anyone with influenza. A friend of mine however contracted it and for weeks he lingered on the edge of death, but thankfully recovered.
    Which brings me to "No-one knows anyone with Covid-19". No, he's speaking for himself, because he's in the privileged position of not knowing anyone - so far - who has never contracted Sars-Cov-2, and developed Covid-19. Well, news for him. As well as online friends who have been diagnosed with Covid-19, I also have a family member who has had it, and has been left with long term respiratory problems and organ damage due to the virus; what science is just now recognising as "Long Covid".
    I don't believe in taking the gloves off with gobshites like this, because when they claim it is a conspiracy, that is a direct insult all those who have died of Covid-19, all their greiving loved ones, every person who has had the virus and recovered, and all of those living with the long term effects of Long Covid.
    Plus as an anti-masker he is a danger to society, and deserves to be ostracised and shunned as such.

Then one day he suddenly starts ranting about social justice and really hasn't stopped. Basically it's commentary al la Katie Hopkins- designed for views and people agreeing with him in the comments. It's deliberate, divisive and I doubt he even believes what he's saying.

    Richard Dawkins' tweet is similar to how I feel about how people treat their mental health.
    For example, if you have an anger problem and you don't take the time to treat it or understand it, you're not just risking an outburst that makes you look foolish. You're also risking your anger having detrimental effects on friends, family, and strangers alike.
    If you don't take your mental health seriously, you have no idea what kind of an impact you may leave on people. Remember, the world is bigger than just you.
    Anyway, wear a mask (and go to therapy)
