"Life didn't come from a rock, god created man from dust from the earth!"
Said with a straight face and conviction.
yup, exactly
They don't understand that dust usually comes from rocks.
Creation itself is more ridiculous than life from rocks. They believe god spoke it and it became so, which means from absolutely nothing. At leas a rock is something.
Thats from rwby, but thats a clear antasy world. An jojo has rockhumans, but thats, a wild antasy world too.
@@DoctorZisIN Explain how creation is more ridiculous than life coming from rocks.
I think the inherent problem in arguing with these people is that at base, the fact that we are made of elements, which in turn become minerals and other chemicals to them means "rocks." You go to the natural history museum and look at the "mineral room" and what is it filled with? Rocks! That's their level of understanding.
I mean if you change the definition of "rock," anything can be a "rock." I could be a "rock." You're absolutely right.
@@the_jonoPlus I listen to rock! We atheists just can’t stop
I wonder if he knows that we still need minerals to stay alive?
How in the what is your comment from a week ago? (as of posting this comment)
this is what scares me either malicious or stupid to a point its starting to become dangerous.
these people are loose screws in society and you NEVER know what kind of absolute garbage they can come up with yet never bring anything new to the table, somehow.
Before i clicked on this, My kids just googled “is calcium an element” and Alexa told them calcium is a metal. They were like, “so we’re not rock golems, we’re metal golems! Awesome”
Followed by air guitar and an electric guitar riff. 😂
All elements ending in "ium" are metals with a few exceptions, one being "helium".
@@jane-marie3289
Unless you’re an astronomer! 😂
@@zemoxian Indeed, astronomers have a very short periodic table, hydrogen and metals. However I assume that the list is still to long for flearthers or (conmanning) creatards
His lack of language comprehension is almost literally incredible. As far as I know he is still doubling down on those articles.
we wont advance as a society until religion leaves humanity.
This none practicing Roman Catholic 100% agrees 👍
I'm sure uou can guess why I walked away
@@JohnSmith-xq1pz Marcial Maciel should be reason for everyone.
I have to respectfully disagree. I'm a sociologist and am interested in the sociology of religion. I also am married to a Jewish woman. I've hung out with pagans and neo-pagans of all sorts, with Muslims, with Hindu and Buddhists . . . . What I've learned is that Christianity almost exclusively focuses on belief instead of behavior. In other religions, the focus is on the here-and-now: behavior is far more important than belief. As some Jews have told me, "Don't act as if God is watching -- act as if your neighbors are watching." This makes tremendous sense, since God's action won't come until after you die (assuming there is a god), but your neighbors will take action in the present.
There are some very real pro-social things religions generally do: they help regulate relationships and behaviors within a community; they help people frame their personal experiences, life events, and relationships into meaningful wholes; and validate or refute other social institutions' norms.
That said, there are always people who will take their religious beliefs to extremes, like literalism. But most of them are interested in having a living relationship between themselves, their religions and society at large. Those people will adapt their religious stories -- or, rather their interpretations of their stories -- to fit modern circumstances. But for most people, the emphasis is on pro-social behavior rather than belief.
So I urge people to go a little easier on religion. It can help people to be better, since they are expecting their neighbors to be watching. But people like little Mattie Powell, the Evil Dr. Peel's radio-controlled animatronic minion -- lay on!
I disagree, people will always do something in that direction, whatever, a as that i dont we could even i we would try.
How ever we can very mus go agains undamentalism and etreme and ill that place with loots of diverse moderate peopl that at th end of the day, just live their life, and dont evangelize.
Also make a dierence beteen th healthy that has literally just have that being part of peoples lie and adding instead , having the thought control stuff and excuse it for you know,
Just thr is a room that just will be always ther and we need healthy, secular ones that are progrssivish that ill that spot and push out the fundamentalists.
Also protecting anyones healthy, including being jut an atheist and no wanting to be botherd.
@@johndemeritt3460 I agree, plus you have to admit that falling into a rabbit hole of conspiracy also plays a part. YOCs tell their congregation that they have it all figured out.
Statement: Rocks and minerals played a key role for the existence of life.
Matt: So the life forms came from rocks.
Statement: The sunrays got into a driver's eye and he crushed into a wall, dying.
Matt: So the non life forms came from sunrays.
I have to be honest, he convinced me. I thought I didn't come from a rock but he clearly shows I do believe I come from a rock. Can you ask him to let me know what else I think?
If "we evolved from rocks" that would explain why Matt Powell is as smart as a box of rocks.
please, a box of rocks would leave Matty in the dust just solving 2+2=...
And that is why we did not evolve from rocks. We were created in God's image.
Expecting Matt Powell to be honest was a bold move
Balsy for sure, stupid, but balsy.
It's ironic to hear Matt "air in space" Powell say somebody else didn't read a paper thoroughly enough.
What me suprises most is that Mr Powell has no problem to insanely leave out about 4 billion years from LUCA to human, when he says "we" come from rock!
Yeah, but egotism and speacial-casing humans is a big part of religious fundamentalism
5:54 He didn't read the rest of the sentence. The part you read is literally apart of the sentence, just separated by the dash. It's like stopping reading something after a comma
Our lives are still dependent on minerals, try living without iron, calcium, sodium... there are many. Thanks rocks!
To say that "life came from a rock" implies that all you need for life is rocks. Besides not meaning that at all, Matt ignores that life also requires water, carbon, nitrogen, and so on. Because human proteins require nitrogen, it's as valid but just as absurd to claim life is descended from the sky.
He says things like "Then they say it's a creationist straw man" and shows clips of people literally saying he's wrong about it.
He knows what is being said and he deliberatly misrepresents and doubles-down on his words. He's a liar.
Man they really try to act smart when they skip the articles.
Scan for something that looks appropriate for your position. If a candidate doesn't look like it's going to pay out, stop reading it and go back to scanning. As soon as you find a tidbit that helps you, stop reading and continue scanning. Or to put it another way, do your own research.
Thanks for all your research, Stick, I would have neither the capacity, nor, I fear, the dedication to do that work. I very much appreciate the work that you, and others like you, put in to questioning the ignorance and dishonesty of the Matt Powell types of this world.
"Creationists seem to misunderstand it...."
Say it isn't so!
my own feeling is that they do understand; their pretense is just part of the grift
@@cajunqueen5125 even more gross
What is really infuriating is that he almost gets it, then he just keeps doubling down on his strawmen
it's deliberate, just part of the grift
4:22 At first I thought Professor Stick threw in the clip from Professor Dave to poke fun at Matt Powell, but Matt was the one who played that clip!
A handy rule of thumb; if it has adverts, it's not a 'scientific paper'.
A question for creationists: If all life, both complex and simple, came from some higher, undoubtedly infinitely more complex being with the power to literally do anything he desires, then what created god? Or did god somehow create himself, which is a contradiction in and of itself?
Classic answer to this is question begging. And mental gymnastics on how this question is incoherent.
They'll just say that god is eternal and outside of space and time.
I asked someone this. Generally, the idea is that God is not more complex than the universe but is somehow simpler than the universe that it created. It is due to our flawed reasoning that suggests that God is more complex than the universe. God just simply exists. So nothing created God, it just always existed.
Weird guy.
I can follow cosmological arguments up until they get to a first cause. It makes sense that if the chain of events going back in time isn’t infinite then there will be an end to that chain. A first cause.
Then they wave a hand and give it human properties. Why? There was nothing in the argument that said the first cause had to think and feel and want.
I think they assume that because artificial things are made by humans, the universe must be artificial and made by a more powerful person. The universe can’t just be a natural phenomenon.
I think it’s a form of hubris.
We can make pottery so we told ourselves a story where god made us like pottery and blew life into us. And he made us in his image, whatever that means.
I think it’s far more likely we made god in our image to deal with the idea that the universe doesn’t care about us and doesn’t even know we exist.
Of course he didn't create himself. He created a time travelling, god farting pixie, which travelled back in time to before god existed. The pixie then farted out god. God then killed the pixie so there'd be no more gods, and created the universe. Simple 😊
Matt Powell isn't "misinterpreting" anything. He's lying. And he knows it.
Did you listen to Matt, maybe you did not understand. He tells the truth as God instructs all should do. In your world view he has no choice but to lie. His brain is just chemical reactions. Chemical reactions cannot lie.
Who knew so many problems could come from people reading a philosophy book, and interpreting it as science? There's literally a part of the bible or two that are about not interpreting it so literally. It's just silly at this point.
you know whats scary, i live near boston, im an aircraft tech. ive gone through 5 therapists because i had alchohol problems last year. EVERY SINGLE thERAPIST IS A FUCKING CHRIST LOVING NARCISSIST . AND AS SOON AS I SAY IM NOT RElIGOUS they SAY THATS THE PROBLEM. AND TRY TO CONVERT ME
10:48 .. Describes Matt perfectly.
I once’s asked someone for the DOI to the paper they were citing and they had no idea what I was talking about. Clearly these people know best! And stop only reading the abstract or just most of the papers!!! And non-scientifically-minded people should stop arguing about all the research they did
The fact they call it “research” is always a telling clue. I need to read research articles to write my assignments and papers. I phrase it that way because I am reading research, I am not conducting research.
@@MsLemon42 Absolutely well said
Actually, THEY believe we come from rocks. Before ", there was no death, so what do you think dust was, Matt???the fall"
Thank goodness for my cookie sheet. If it wasn't for that cookie sheet, you wouldn't have cookies. Therefore, the cookies evolved from the cookie sheet.
It's not that they don't understand .. it's that they purposely misrepresent it.
Also Matt Powell: "diamonds are impenetrable by C14 as they are made of the hardest subatomic particles know to man"
That should tell everyone the level of education this genius has.
As a former simple-minded fundamentalist Christian, I can totally understand why his mind could work like this and cherry-pick something and take it out of context and turn it into something it isn't, because that is after all how we have so many different denominations of Christianity, you get wackos who disagree with what they were taught and the interpretation of scripture when they see a quote in the scripture that means something else to them than what they are taught, and they give that quote a completely new meaning that is completely absent from the context from which it was taken from, and this is exactly how preachers come up with such bogus ideas from behind the pulpit, and it doesn't end at scripture.
This is exactly how they interpret the world outside of their bubbles, they hear or learn of something and they give it their own interpretation without having any context to really understand what it was, and this is how these people end up looking so foolish to the rest of us who understand these things. He does not think it is a straw man because he doesn't understand it still, and because these people don't want to waste their time doing more thorough research on things they disagree with, they just stick with the bullshit that feels good to them because they don't think it's true anyways so it's not important to them to learn more about it.
If he believes that the scientific paper says that we descended from rocks that would mean he also believes that he descended from his childhood home
Man, like 5 seconds of exposure to the real idea (development of minerals and development of life playing off each other and providing the conditions to facilitate each other) instead of the stupid strawman version ("we came from a rock") and it's like, wow, I never thought of that, that's actually a really fascinating idea...
"Nobody believes that."
"Yes you do and your [sic] wrong."
4:44 _"they, they actually believe that whether they realize it or not, and I'm actually gonna show you the scientific papers"_ oh, are you? _"uh, we'll just go through, uh, just a few of them and show you that this is what they believe."_ Oh I can't fucking wait! 🤓 _" they may not understand the fundamentals of their faith."_ I love how religious people basically understand that religion and faith-based belief systems are absurd and impossible to defend, so they constantly try to portray science in the same way in an attempt to level the playing field. 😂
Creationists literally believe humans came from dirt, so...
How many times, Marie, they're minerals not rocks.
One of my favorite parts is when the guy keeps saying “what scientists BELIEVE “. 😂
There entire argument "Its absurd to me, therefore it must be false". Quantum mechanics and general relativity are absurd, does that mean it doesn't exist. Only thing that matters is that it must generate continous precise surprising predictions.
It's like arguing WITH a rock, these people.
Matt's argument seem to be logically equivalent to "They say food is crucial for child development so they literally believe food is the child's parents".
Confusing being involved in a process with being a literal ancestor.
Matt Powell just deliberately can't see the difference between "This was made with _the assistance_ of a Hammer (minerals)" versus "This was made _out of_ a Hammer". Honestly don't give his master Kent Hovind any ideas for new catch phrases, but it would be _slightly_ more accurate if he would claim "You believe your Creator is a rock".
dam didn't expect to see Professor Dave in the middle of the video 😂
The sentence: "thank goodness"
The theist: "see, they are saying 'don't thank god'"
Me: laughing at the theist that just admitted his God isn't good.
Ah, Matt “the air in space changes how the sun acts/ages” Powell. As a teacher, I encounter students like him on occasion, where they work harder to not learn something because they think they’re saving time. They waste their time and their GPA until they realize they can’t “cheat” like this. I wonder what his schooling was like that he never unlearned this behavior.
Even if Matt was right in his strawman, that SOME people believe it, he still needs to stop using it because:
A. This is not the scientific consensus
B. The particular atheist he speaks to doesn’t believe it so it is unnecessary to bring up in the discussion.
It would be like me saying “Christians believe in alien-facilitated reincarnation” while talking to him. Even if I could find a Christian who believes this (and I can, this is not a random example), Matt does not believe this and the Bible does not support this, so there is no point in me bringing it up in my UA-cam videos as a smug gotcha against all Christians.
All this aside, it’s clear he is phrasing the hypothesis as “they think we evolved from rocks” for some reason. Phrasing aside, he did not provide any counter-argument to the hypothesis. He just thinks it’s silly. So not only is this whole thing an exercise in How Not to Debate, but he doesn’t even provide anything more than “this sounds silly”.
IIRC Matt was homeschooled
the reason Matt keeps bringing it up no matter what is Kent Hovid keeps bringing it up, and Matty is Kent's most favoured Alter Boy (in every sense of the term, good and bad, but no homo there right?) so he keeps following his Master's lead in saying 'nuh uh!' without providing any kind of alternative besides 'God did it'. personally, i think he needs to cuddle with his giant inflatable banana that he named 'Dr Peel' some more...
@@darkclawgreatonenas
And Matt, like so many others, leaves us with "God did it" and yet not one can tell us the mechanism by which God did!
Scriptures from many religions describe God's creations as a violation of how the universe is known to work, magic by definition, though many theists deny this and some claim miracle, which is magic, attributed to a God. If one is going to claim God did it, one must tell us HOW.
If you were conceived at a rock concert, did rock help you being born? YES 🤟🤘🤘
I need this concept illustrated 🤣
To make a cake, I have to put the ingredients into a pan to bake it.
This pan is essential to making a cake, yet none of it is the cake
Thanks for the video :)
Saying that science says that life came from rocks is like saying that life came from H2O i.e. water. Water was indispensable for life but the water is not the only molecule involved. Minerals are involved, just look at hemoglobin, iron is a part of it. Iron makes up quite a bit of some rocks.

Yes. I owe my life to Rock. Without Rock, my life would be so boring I couldn't deal with it. Thank rock🤘🏼.
Life certainly does beget rocks. Have you ever seen kidney stones? Passing them is a huge pain.
They’re getting more and more shameless and duplicitous with their fallacious arguments every day. Most resentful is their projection; the liars repeatedly accusing their foils of lying.
I am more than a rock, I am an island.
this rocks!
I few weeks ago I saw a creationist say that according to science we came from rocks and I was shocked at his ignorance (and his confidence in his ignorance), now I know where he got it from
Well Banana Boy thinks we came from a handful of dust and a rib, so..........
Hello professor Stick, just wanted to say that I have been enjoying your videos for quite a while now. You got me interested in the medical field and for my bachelors thesis (computer science) I decided to write a work about AI, supercomputers and cancer. I am in my second semester now, but I already have a very good idea of what I want to do. It would be cool if I could ask you some questions about it some day, but you must be busy outside of your UA-cam channel. Anyways, thanks for your videos.
Life came from Rocks?? HardCore
Reading comprehension is clearly not matts strong point
Awww damn Matt forgot his banana Mr. Peel!
Stupid people will ALWAYS chose what makes them feel comfortable.
I believe a bed played an important role in my existence. Do I come from a bed?? I certainly hope not! :)
Oh Matt def read the other part of the abstract, it used words he didnt understand and since he is too lazy to go learn what they mean, he just blew right pass it.
1 small correction. Is aron like with the a from "are" not the a from "appel". Still great vid and tnx for getting me into science few years back❤️
My bowl played a key role in the formation of my bread. Can you believe bowls turn into bread? Amazing.
If I were to go into space and meet some aliens, and claim that I come from Earth, that means I claim a planet was my ancestor?
Matt’s brain was crushed by rocks.
I mean, Matt has said he has no problem and doesn’t see any problems with quote mining, so shouldn’t be too surprised by the misrepresentation
Ah ... Matt Powell ... Tell me you don't understand chemistry without telling me you don't understand chemistry. 🤣
matt powel should remember that his book claims a being we cant see made man from clay, a form of ground-up rock, we dont think we descend from they do.
I said it before and will say it again: Are they suggesting that rocks gave birth? Do they give birth? Cuz depending how you interpret that we came from rocks it could mean rocks gave birth or life began on a rock could be a space rock or a planet rock Earth is just a big rock with water and gas on it, either way depends.
Someone should ask this question next time someone debates this again.
Quote mining from MP? Surely not! 😂
Love how creationists think they understand science better than scientists themselves when in fact, they can’t comprehend what they read, makeup straw-man arguments against scientific theories (like the Big Bang), cherry-pick scientific facts to fit their ideology, and cater their lack of understanding to an audience that doesn’t understand science either.
Well creationists take an entire course in lying instead of something useful
I love how creationists twist atheism into a "faith". Trying a false equivelncy to muddy the waters.

So early here there, sound is not even uploaded
In the mean time, I learned some new, more or less, because I’m not sure if I understand it completely. But as I understand it now is that life created new minerals. Definitely want to know more about it.
I came from a rock-it was down the street from a hard place though.
Life is made of elements - the same as rocks
This has to be true: because when I was younger, I was solid as a rock - now I'm pliable like mud. 🤔Does that mean that I am de-evolving and that I'll actually be a rock again? Really? Amazing!
Its confirmed again by Matty himself his brain is small rocks and how he straight up lies but Im guessing lying for the lawwwdddd is ok.. Gotta love Aron!! Another great video PS
But what does Dr . Peel think?
I have become convinced that Matty-boy and his ilk are willful trolls. There’s money in it and they crave the attention that they would otherwise never get.
Jesus, Marie. They're minerals
Life came from rocks in the same way you came from your diet.
If I use a pan to fry an egg... is the pan than part of the fried egg? Or did the egg came from the fire?
Magic Sky Wizard created egg. That's the only sensible explanation.
Of course a creationist would use the word conceive when no where does it say in scientific literature, rocks conceived life. Filling people's heads with a false narrative.
Thank goodness for evolucyon.
just because he has the intelligence of a rock doesn't mean he's right.
Isn't he the guy with the inflatable banana in his back yard??? 🤔
If only those individuals who listen to Matt & HOVIND would think for themselves & learn science they would realize the truth of evolution
Leave it to Matt Powell to not understand the difference between an article and a paper.
Genesis said that Adam came from dirt which are pieces of rock so why doesn’t Matt Powell believe that? 🤔
And this is why life probably can't exist on water worlds. If there's no rock, there are no minerals, and thus no life can evolve.
"Religion Poisons Everything" - Christopher Hitchens
Creationists believe that if people stopped worshipping God, the rocks themselves would cry out his praises. Yet "rocks helped with the formation of life" is too much for them.
