The most underrated fantasy series ever imo. Bakker's prince of nothing and aspect emperor belong up there with any list Abercrombie, Lawrence, Martin, or any of the (imo) all-star modern fantasy writers, are in.
There is a head on a pole behind you... Loved this. Imagery, visuals, voice. Also my favorite series ever. Can't wait for more episodes. And the inchoroi.
@@earlpipe9713 haha me neither. I searched on reddit and the Bakker msgboard once. People seemed to think it had something to do with those heads from the outside that Kellhus carried on his belt, but no one could really pinpoint wtf it meant or why it just sticks with you. In any event, years after reading it, it just resonates in our heads. There is a head on a pole behind you. Ahhh.
I have never read anything better than this. Prince of Nothing and Aspect Emperor are my favorite books of any that I've read in my 36 years of avid reading. I reread the entire saga every year, these books are actually worth studying.
Came here at the recommendation of a common friend. I just completed Chapter Six of The Darkness That Comes Before, and I was struggling to grasp some of what you outlined here. It's making a lot more sense now. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos for readers like me who get confused easily, lol.
Thanks for the support Norman! Mac, (or as I've always called him, "Mac-Attack") was telling me that you started reading the story. I've been begging him to finish it for years. I hope you enjoy the series, it's really unlike any other fantasy out there. Chapter 6 is awesome too, you get to meet one of the most interesting characters. "Cnaiur." Feel free to stop on by and leave some thoughts! There's also a facebook group called, "R. Scott Bakker's The Second Apocalypse" which is a great resource if you want to ask any questions. Thanks again for commenting! Keep us posted!
These videos really help me digest some of the dense information from the book. There’s lots of philosophical jargon and lots of exposition so this is a great companion for new readers who are trying to get into Bakker’s writing.
My friend recently recommended these books to me. But I wasnt convinced so I searched and found this video. Im now half way through the first book (soo good). You did a fantastic job. Thank you for your efforts. I'll watch the rest of the videos when I finish the first book.
This is so well done, I'm watching all of the videos in order now. I've read the entire book series and find them to be among the best literature ever written, so this is wonderful to see!
Thanks for the video!! I just started reading this series and with ADHD some details are hard to retain. This video was a tremendous help and without spoilers. Getting a like and a sub!
Thanks for watching Jason! The quality gets better as the series goes one. You might beat me to the finish line, so far I'm only on chapter 13! Thanks for the sub, much appreciated!
Loved this! My friend recommended me this series and I fell in love with it I’m currently on The Great Ordeal but haven’t touched it in awhile watching this refresh’s my memory really well. Looking forward to more!
Bro , I just started watching your videos one by one ... Pls don't stop uploading... Keep going man , rly appreciate it ... And yes I just subscribed to you 😊
These videos having sub 1 million views is criminal. I'm now caught up and rewatching these as I'm reading through TWP. Excited for the next installment!
Thank you for watching! Most of the artwork is from Midjourney, but a good friend also has several pieces. You can check out his art in the description. He has a ton of R. Scott Bakker fan art!
The one thing that I struggle with in this video is the portrayal of the sranc. Their bodies were far more canine than human, loping about like upright dogs. Their faces though were porcelain beauty, mirror images of the Cûnuroi that the sranc were created to destroy.
SubFlow22, I completely agree. These illustrations are generated from Midjourney. I'd love to commission real art, but that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars with the amount I need to make videos of this length, so Midjourney is really the only way this is possible. I've tried using community fan art as much as I can. Anyways, it's been challenging getting the Sranc to look right. I'm hoping as the technology gets better in the future, I can get that canine look.
This video is awesome, but I also paused at this point to check the comments. Unless it’s told later in the series and I don’t recall correctly, moenghus didn’t sneak out but was sent out when they agreed someone had to go investigate, but also wouldn’t be allowed back as he would contaminate their sanctum with knowledge or worldborn men. Still, I’m so glad to have stumbled upon these videos. Please keep it up!!
Spoiler question These books can be confusing and I only read them once. But I thought the Sranc were a creation of the inchoroi or the consult. They are made to look like the race of nonmen, but the nonmen traded with the consult and they their mortality away for immortality, but the price was that all the women died or became barren. The nonmen could no longer reproduce and they drifted into dimentia and amnesia over time. The Sranc are like a mockery of the nonmen because they reproduce like vermin and are aroused by base violence and they eat the flesh of their kills. This is how I remember what I read from the books. The only actual nonmen still alive are amnesiacs others have killed themselves. And I guess there are those who are in the seat of the consult… in that last book it was revealed that the nonmen who went to destroy the consult were turned by the no god.
My book is written totally different than this audiobook. It’s like reading a King James Bible and listening to NIV. Anyone know if there’s different copies sold or something?
Where tf are getting these pronunciations? Lol I can't find good resources on that anywhere... just lots of googling pronunciations and short/long vowel sounds of stuff like ä, ö, ô, ü, û, etc. then trying to piece these words together. Your pronounciations sound more authentic than mine.. lol
I'm here to learn how I should have been pronouncing the names. What a wild book series? I just put up my own review (no-spoilers) here: ua-cam.com/video/ZDoQ8u-Qm1w/v-deo.html
"So long as men exist, there are crimes." And right there we have the whole issue behind the Consult and the Inchori! Great stuff!

My all time favorite series, finally getting an awesome visual / auditory treatment - great job!
Möenghus did not escape. He was sent to reconnooter the immediate area and later cast out after being jugded polluted by the outside world.
You're absolutly right. An oversight on my end!
@@cursedarmada88 I should add that other than that, your video made a very good impression on me, quality and delivery-wise.

Brilliant mate. I am so glad you are doing this. If I can help in any way please let me know.🤓
A brilliant summary. It's been so long since I read the first trilogy, I'd forgotten most of this material, but now I'm inspired to read it again :)
