Fifty potential shows in all this info.
Dr Bruce Bugbee YOU HAVE TAUGHT ME A LOT. THANK YOU for showing us the NEW things that are on the fore front of technology... "FAR" "RED" Intriguing.......
Extremely interesting and captivating! Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge! Do you reckon there might be a part 2? I'd love to hear more about far red, and how to implement it efficiently into a grow (what time of the day/night cycle it should be used, what stages of plant development it is more beneficial for, what impact it has on plants on a metabolic level...), along with stuff such as Emerson effect, or possible benefits of high CRI lights, versus the obvious disadvantage of a lower PPF/W. Please let me know, I'd love to watch another video as instructive as this one!
This was very interesting to watch and I learned a lot from it . I'm coming to this subject from a planted fish tank perspective with all this which has slightly different parameters that affect plant growth such as the depth of water and how tannins can affect the overall light distribution such as when you have a biotope species specific tank like from the Amazon region where the water can be darker because of the tannins from the leaf decay . Also if you have a saltwater tabk with live corals the blue end of the spectrum is vital to their health and reproduction which is why a lot of people have been using metal halide lights for many years now . Also ultraviolet light is important to reduce algae blooms as well as reducing pathogens in the water which is why many newer fish tank filters have UV light sterilization to assist in the overall health of the tank . This study of sunlight replication is also extremely important to understand when it comes to any future off world colonization efforts such as any colony on Mars where UV radiation is much higher and dangerous to any life forms . Using artificial lighting will be a must have for the colonists . Although they could use the natural sunlight in greenhouses like we always see in the movies the fact is that they'll have to have special coatings to reduce the amount of UV light plus suplimental heating and if there's a massive dust storm ,how would they be able to make use of the sun if the sky is choked with dust and sand everywhere around the entire planet for months at a time ? If human beings intend to colonize Mars we'll have to get all this worked out long before setting up any operations on this planet and using solar power alone for above ground greenhouses won't cut it . They're going to have to use old lava tunnels to shelter from the radiation and use artificial lighting only but I digress . Anyways great stuff and very interesting .👍
I've always gone with what my plants tell me, I use to used 2 x de hps in a 2 x 1 m2 covering 8 plants now I run 1 hps running at 500w in the middle covering 4 plants and four veros 2 at each end 1 cob covering a plant, I save 300w in heat which Improves overall quality of yield, basically I find hps,led cob, hps, led cob an even mix with hps overlapping the led cobs work the best all day long ,happy growing ✌
I just wanted to make an observation. It takes all kinds! Light is good and light is life. As the founder of MIGRO you have observed particular benefits of LED lights. Therefore you have specialized according to your nature, blazing a trail into a particular and important specialized artificial lighting method. I find the same tendancy in myself. I do have epiphanies. But most of the time I find things that fascinate me and want to specialize in maximizing very localized knowledge. This approach is critical for understanding and maximazation of the intricacies of every field of study. I have learned from you. Be encouraged.
With Rec Cannabis being legal in Canada in a little over a month there are already several studies being set up in jointly funded programs by Universities, Federal Government and BioTech Companies. So the ban on Cannabis research is about done finally. The studies I was informed of are more involved in compounds produced by strain but growth and chemical development as influenced by light would not be far away. Excellent insight on lighting from the masters. Thank you very much.
Good show I tell all my friends to watch you. I help out medical patience set up they're lighting properly. I have learned so much from you I really appreciate it God bless you keep up the good work
This was a dope talk. Thank you both. This was very helpful to me as I research on lighting technology to help me grow bonsai indoors. For the most part, the goals for growing bonsai are very different from growing weed, but there are some crossovers and this information was very useful.
5 years ago I was getting slightly bigger plants . The only difference IS that I retired two old led panels from Holland with far red diodes. I am going to use them again.
Very informative. So the question now is which LED light is the best LED grow that utilizes all spectrum of light for best quality outcome and most yield? The mighty question.
Thanks again guys. You both do so much to assist the community. This is more than interesting. How much uv light over seedlings to control mould spores. The little evil Downy mildew spores are killing my seedlings. There are spores on the collydons when they pop through. Help please!!
Great questions and answers. Very thought provoking. PPFD is superior to anecdotal yield data? The McCree paper was an intellectual leap, as mentioned using crude instruments by today's standards, yet those results are still so significant some 40 years later.

From NB Canada. Was just about to procure some LED's for cannabis. I'm unable to transfer the info in this video over to my purchasing decisions. Overwhelming. ... I want to do it as correct as possible the first time. Can you give the 'Readers Digest' version of this information? ie what should growers change or add to lighting choices. Thanks.
Hi,In short if you are buying LEDs you should go for white LEDs in the colour temperature range of 3K to 4K. There is a balanced Blue, Green and Red mix in these light spectrums all of which the plants use and need for healthy development. What Bruce is saying is plants need and use all types of light in the PAR spectrum and a broad sepctrum LED will do that.
With uva improving rooting, and ir improving the absorption of uv, via aiding increased photosynthesis.. have there been any studies on optimal rooting spectrum? Or simply put, does rooting occur more in red, blue, green, rb(blue dominate), rb(red dominate), rgb(r dom, b dom)
a question... was the green light penetrating the canopy to aid lower growth a controlled test introducing only pure green in conjunction to blue/red side by side to those with only blue/red or were there other contaminants in the cyan, yellow, orange range?
One thing neither of you touched on is ,what’s the best light recipe from veg to flower obviously the dli would have to increase and may be even tapper towards the end of the plants life so it would be interesting to know Bruce’s recommendation on the plants 🌱 dli from seem to harvest???
The best spectrum for Our kind of plants is balanced. I build My own L.E.D. Grow lights with C.O.B. chips. I use 16- 50 watt diodes ? or Cobs for short. 6- W.W. 3000k, 4 red 660nM., 4- C.W. 10k, and 2- royal blue cobs. I also use 10 watt 395nM. cobs for a little U.V. A to enhance flavors, and resin production. I use 6 of them. My plants respond very well. Resin production increased. Temperatures were lowered, and My electric bill went down about 40% or so. I can still see the color , and condition of the plants leaves to adjust nutrients. I grow totally organically , and brew My own fertilizers, and I make EM-1. I make super soils with 7 ingredients. Lights should be Super also with a good mix of spectrum, not all of one color. So in order of most used on My light formula. W.W. 2700 - 3000k red 660nM., C.W. 6500k - 10,000k, royal blue 440-450 nM. and little 10 watt U.V. A 365-395nM. This covers all but U.V. b and far red. I use a 600 watt H.P.S. still in the center of the flowering room, and 4 T-5 pure Par U.V. A and B for a near perfect flowering/fruiting spectrum. My channel is Grow4Survival on UA-cam My light builds are depicted. I would like to work with a company as a Developer/ Designer. For the fun of it. I love this stuff.
