I've been told two ways to use uv. One is before and after the light cycle, and the other is during the light cycle 15 minutes every hour. What way should uv be used?
Yes! Finally there is legit UVB research, mannnn. I love this, ive tried to get more people to use Arcadia little knockoff reptile bulb, and now we get legit science into UVB and hemp etc. You all rock, I love it. Thank you so much MiGro and Bruce at Apogee Instruments. This is next level UVB researched ive begged for years

@@reefonbux9432 Many of the Flourescent UVA/UVB lamps used for supplemental growing effects are Reptile lamps.
If using Reptile lamps only, IDT any plants could grow? I mention this because many people over the years have mentioned using "Black lights" only, when speaking about growing indoors.
IDK where this Myth started? Maybe older movies, or something in pop culture..?
I believe Shane has a video comparing different Reptile lamps and their spectrums, on The Migro Channel.

Guidance on using the MIGRO UVB and ARAY together:
The surface area of the ARAY is about 20% of the surface area of the canopy it covers. This means if the UVB is above the ARAY 80% of the UVB photos will reach the canopy. Also the UVB fixture is 2ft or 60cm long so UVB photons from some part of the fixture will pass the ARAY led bars at different angles to reach all parts of the canopy.
The hanging height of the UVB is 2ft or 60cm, way above the the ARAY hanging height of 6 to 8 inches or 16cm-18cm minimum. UVB photons will fade the colour pigment of the ARAY over time but will not cause much bleaching as it is only used for around 30 hours total per growing cycle. It would be the same fading as leaving the fixture in mid-day sun for about 10 hours.
Would you still recommend 2hour per day for the last 2 week?
Why UV-B and not UV-A, according to bruce bugbee UV-B burns the plants just turning it on 1 or few hours a day!
What’s not discussed is an exact method for administering the UVB supplementation for tangible results..pretty much, here’s your UV bar, go to town…i have used UV before and I am not swayed…we need to know exactly how to administer the UV..
@@lucianthepurifier___412 He said LED s can produce UVA effectively but is much less powerful to the plant. LED dont produce UVB economically. 1 photon from UVB is 100 times more powerful than UVA. UVC is much more damaging than UVB. Glass filters out UVB. Some UVB is good for people in the right amount. Some UVB is good for plants, in the right amount.

Hello from Elusive Strains USA - We have followed your channel for some time and wanted to give a big thank you for giving the community accurate information. We have used UVB for many years as it does indeed have a positive affect not only for flower but for the health of our seeds.

Yeah how do you use it? 🤜😐
@@MrRiverGrove Last 3 weeks of flower, have the UVB fixture come on for 2 hours (might get away with 3 hours) in the middle of your light cycle WITH your light cycle. So if you are on a traditional 12 on/12 off, you would want to just have your regular light come on for 5 hours like normal, then have another timer bring your UV fixture on for its two hours, have it shut off, and have and have the remaining 5 hours be just your normal lighting LED, HPS, etc. We want to act like the UVB is running when the sun would be at its highest point/most intense during your relative light cycle.
Hope this helps

I have several runs with your UV-B fixture now n can say that it does make a huge difference in my grows. 1st off the MIGRO bulb seems much brighter next to a Solarcure fixture. 2nd, the plants respond to the UV with lots of trichomes n colors. This has been known for a very long time and was found when kush was first taken from India from the hindu kush mountains as it grew with very high UV in the altitude of where it was first discovered and works best with kush variants of cannabis the plant developed more oils and thc as a uv defense

Very interesting!! Can't wait to see more research on this. Would love to see some more research on sound waves and the benifits
Bose did research on this in grapes.
They found out playing Bose speakers with classical music increased growth and increased sugar/brix in the plants, results were better flavor in wine produced at the vineyard with Bose Speakers. This is also proven in the Library of Medicine, plants with a certain vibration literally grow to the vibrations of certain hertz frequency. This is found in the tax payer funded Library of medicine pubmed search page, in many studies. Next level stuff, for sure
Also it reduced pests in the garden.. a double whammy to use this idea...
Look below for the story
"The network of speakers that delight Paradiso di Frassina’s vineyards 24 hours a day with the complex and lively harmonies of Mozart also allow the winery to reduce vineyard treatments, so no chemicals are used to protect the vines. Stefano Mancuso, a plant neurobiologist with the University of Florence who gave a talk on the roots of plant intelligence on Ted, has been studying the Mozart vineyard since 2003 and has found that sound dramatically reduces the number of attacks from insects and parasites who remain confused and unable to locate one another for mating. Birds and other animals who like to feed on the grapes also stay away, so there’s no need for the use of pesticides!
The company Bose heard about these studies, donated 72 speakers and financed more research."

glass reduces the amount of UVB/A that reaches the canopy in a greenhouse or through a window when growing at home. UV exposure at safe amounts (for your plant products) encourages the plants to develop stress responses. Those stress responses can and often improve taste/colour for meals and even resale; as for Cannabis, does UV exposure create a greater concentration of trichomes due to this stress response? The 'increased potency' referring to the greater number of trichomes is where I'm thinking this product improves yield. I purchased the UV310 light from your store in late 2020 and can say it improves our food growth with taste/resins and the colours are more vibrant than with no UV supplementation.
As far as I know the best, high output ~280nm UV LEDs are now about 8% efficient (up to 1,5W, 6,5V / 230mA). Still far away from ordinary LEDs but getting better year by year.
My main problem with the ones I know about (in addition to the price) is their extreme sensitivity to heat / short lifetime. Already at Tj 45°C they loose 30% of their output in 3000h-4000h.
And at Tj 55°C they loose that 30% in 1000h-2000h.
So you need very good heatsinking to get reasonable lifetime from them. When driven at 1W with ~26°C heatsink Tj 35°C looks possible. This might result more acceptable ~8000h lifetime.
I like that video. My plants have had good soil mixed up, ph 6-6.5, 4 different and tried different led fixtures but the terpene profiles really suck. I'm going to try an uvb light and hope it's better

@@timpage5021 Personally i would prefer the weaker reptile bulbs so i can hang them lower, or from the sides. With powerful UVB you have to hang 60cm above canopy, and that is above the lights. The older model Philips TL40W/03RS works. Not in the current Philips catalog, but "compatible" tubes are available online. Intended for salt-water aquariums, they're Not medical tubes, but do have a lot of UV-B. There's one catch: standard White enamel reflectors do Not reflect UV. The usual fluorescent bulb fixture must be lined with aluminum foil so it relects the UV. One-tube fixtures w/ reflectors are hard to find, so the smallest, lightest, two-tube fixture will work with a single tube. They can fit in a four-foot tent if they are hung at a slight angle to horizontal, on opposite sides of the tent, and halfway between the plants and the main CMH bulb, pointed at 90 degrees to either side. ( not facing down ). Two hours in the late AM, and two hours in the PM should be enough to trigger the response, but since the additional electrical cost is low ( 80W ) keeping them on for longer wouldn't hurt. Wear UV-proof sunglasses when they're on.
Hi, could you please tell me which side of the aluminum foil is better? The shiny or matte? I would assume the shiny side but i'm asking just to make sure. Thanks!
@@twentytwo138 I used the shiny side, but aren't really sure if it makes a huge difference. A side-by-side grow might settle the matter, but who has the time?

My thoughts are to dial in the origin of the strain and then replicate that spectrum from where it comes from....just throwing some ideas out there ..All my theories and conclusions have been from 25 years of R&D..trial and error.
This is why greenhouse produce lacks as much flavor as under the sun,
One part of this trigger process is Brix levels shoot up fast! As well as cooler temps ..Did a bunch of side by sides not even close!

UV technology is already out there and many people use it in their grow.. It's just that LED UV are still not there yet.. If you don't use UV, you're missing out.. If you use MH/HID/HPS then you have UV already
CMH seem to have the most complete over all spectrum but yes MH and HPS or Ceramic HPS have more than LEDs plus they have far reds, however, there hot, expensive to run and not very dimmable. Best bet is full spectrum LEDs with UVA/UVB supplemental lighting in the form of a fluorescent bulb with UVB being the dominant spectrum. LEDs just don’t have the right mix yet for UVs. I just bought Migrows UVB fluorescent to add to my 1,000 Medigrow full spectrum EZ-8 LED. I bought 8 of them. I’m more than confident. Thanks Migrow. Hey can you do a review on Luxx lighting LED?
What is needed is a light fixture that has a seperate uv light that you can turn on when required. Switching lights in and out of the grow room would be too much of a pain
You don’t switch lights out, you run your uv with your led at the same time. You only run uv the first hour your led comes on and the last hour before it turns off
@@trademark256 That is incorrect, you are thinking of IR and Emmerson effect i believe. UV should be used in the MIDDLE of the light cycle, to stimulate noon when the sun is at its peak. Your schedule would mean that the plant gets UV in the morning and before sunset. But in nature those periods produce the least amount of UV.
Also, if you use a more powerful UVB like the ones you mentioned in the video, it's gonna burn the plants if you run them all day.

How would one use it for a perpetual grow? Is there a recommended schedule if plants at different stages are in the tent? Thanks in advance
IMO ignore the part you hear everywhere online about 2 weeks in flower. The sun doesn't work that way. You heard the scientist talk about cuticle strength and compounds that doesn't happen in 2 weeks. Spend the money on a uvb meter then aim to start out at 40-100 microwatts 15 minutes a day during veg. You'll work your way up to a few hours a day depending on the strain. If you find the limit dont push it, back way off. Uv is also bad for plants even when they look healthy. You want just a little to stimulate the benefits. Maybe push the limit for those magical 2 weeks in flower everyone mentions but imho always give the plants uvb just small amounts. If you flower perpetual then just keep it small doses and maybe let the later stage get closer to the bulbs to up the intensity without messing w the duration affecting whole room.
@@prescribedburn1068 Is there any way to determine the 40-100 microwatts without an uvb meter? At least approximately? For example what wattage should the bulb be, what percentage of uvb/uva, how far from the canopy etc. thanks!
@@twentytwo138 a bunch of that is type and strain dependant. What I can say best about the lights are in regards to 4ft T5 uvb is to start about 2 or 3 ft away.. so not to shadow whatever your main light source. Use the lights for about 30 minutes a day for a few days or week. Then slowly start increasing runtime. There are studies out about multiple cycles per day having good outcomes but that's harder on the bulbs. Works just fine to run once. Too much uvb will kill the plant. Almost too much will stunt the plant growth noticeably and a little too much will slow it down but you won't see it. I haven't had enough time to find the best formula but works good for half and hour or hour in veg up to 2 or 3 hrs, and start in flower the same and run maybe Lil longer at end of flower. As flower goes on slowly run more hours. But it's all strain dependant so start slow and add more hrs slow. Have to find out for yourself and the bulbs you get and the strains etc. You'll see a darker leaf usually. Don't let it get too dark or sunburnt or weird wilt and taco etc
No doubt. Highly interesting.
Could these UVB bulbs be used with HPS fixtures?
Awesome! Thank you for all the great information
Ive been wanting to try it on my cannabis grow for a long time
Como usar no grow o uv? Quantos minutos ?
Tenho uma lampada uv,E-27, de 20w e um grow de 60×60×160cm
do u have video abut light schelude 12/12 18/6 20/4 24/0 witch one is the best ? for autos and other plants ?
Auto = 18\6 all time
Others 18\6 vega 12\12 flowering
If uvb is filtered out by passing through glass how does it get out of the bulb? 🤨
Only uvb-c is filtered and thats the dangerous one.
did your migro uvb light bar work for control oidium and pests?
I’m looking at uv enhancement now and am kinda stuck between your uvb310 and rapid leds uva light. In your honestly opinion which Uv responds the best in cannabis?
Great info. Keep up the awesome work!
How much is the 4by4 and what Watts does it pull from the wall mate 👍 have a good one mate
I’m curious if there is a time of the “day” that the use of the uvb would be most effective. 🤔
Only one way to find out
I would think during regular light hours. That's when plants get uvb in nature.
In the middle of the light cycle to stimulate noon when the sun is at its peak.
I love the last interview with Andrew where they have all the varieties of plants being tested and you can see a couple Cannabis plants thrown in purely for science as well. These plants arent being topped or trained for yield in anyway, purely for study. ^_^
Does uvb kill bugs? if not do you know which uv nm range kills bugs?
Hi,
No UVB does not kill bugs, it can be used as a preventative.
@@MIGROLIGHT is is just uvb that deters bugs? I have seen a video On UA-cam about spider mites being exposed to a uv light and it killed them the longer they was exposed to the uv , it could of been A far uv or uvc I can’t remember and for the life of me I cannot find the video it’s worded something like effects of uv on spider mites in lab under microscope
Awesome video
