Wow!. Thank you for this video. I inherited my grandmother’s brooches when I was a teenager and have loved wearing them just about every day since. I have definitely run into the hanging, slipping and pin hole problems. Again, thank you.
Oh my goodness what a help you've been to me today. I never ever thought to use those teeny tiny plastic earring backings to secure a large brooch on my clothing. Madam you're a genius thank you for everything that you've explained to us today so very helpful God bless you!
Laura, as always love your tips. For broaches I use a backing fabrics of wool patches from my scraps. When wearing a costly piece I additionally put the backing pin through a safety pin and secure just in case the broach should open
Amazingly helpful and right on time! Turning 40 next month so I treated myself to my very first Chanel piece- a brooch. As I await its arrival, I was looking up ways to wear it when I stumbled across your wonderful video. I have loved brooches since my teen years, but started steering away from them because of all the problems you mentioned. Now I'm excited to confidentially wear my newest statement piece.
So happy this showed up in my feed after I was browsing the many unique brooches on Etsy! I have many I love and quit wearing because of the holes they created... wonderful and subscribed.
oh, if only I'd known this in all my years of working in my office!!! This is terrific! I still have my antique pins, will get them out and create montages on some of my plain casual/dressy clothes-- Thank you!
Oh my! I stopped wearing Brooches for these very reasons. Thank you so much. I have a lovely sewing machine brooch with charms, I have got to go find now.
Great tip! I will definitely try it. I came across this video in search of "How to secure a brooch on clothing. I wore a brooch yesterday on my jacket and it fell off. I back tracked my steps and found it, luckily! Do you have any tips on securing your brooch so that you do not loose it?
Love this tip!! Just one question.....if you have a thin fabric like the blouse you showed in this video, what can you do to keep the tulle/netting from being scratchy? I'm always cutting tags or threads that drive me crazy scratching my skin. Is there a lightweight fabric similar to the one shown that isn't stiff and scratchy? As I always say, you have the best tips, gadgets and tutorials. :D TFS! xoxoJanet
Thank you Laura. This was an excellent video and you've given this subject a lot of thought. These instructions are so obvious and one of those 'duh!' moments for me.
Thank you...don't usually leave a comment...but this was so informative for me...I'm not crafty or experimental...this video helped me understand and learn so much
But the holes will still be there after you remove the brooch? I only wear mines with knitted tops because the weaving is loose so easy to find an 'opening' but other fabrics, I don't want to make holes.
Thank you. Will these tips also prevent the "holes" from the pins? I love wearing brooches but am so afraid of ruining th fabric...this definitely helps but what about those pins holes in delicate fabrics? Even with the back Fabrice reinforcement, won't they still leave holes?
I mean...how do you know these things that never would have occurred to me? By the way, Laura, please forgive my lapse of good judgment when I asked if you might let me commission you to make a quilt! Good grief!
If you just read what I just now sent, you know I am the planet's token tech idiot, and you also know I'm doing everything on my phone. And my phone isn't able to pm you. I go to your channel and hit "about" and it doesn't give me any option or button to message you. I talked to my carrier, TMOBILE and they couldn't help! so here I sit upriver in my little canoe with no paddle and bloodthirsty mooses wading into the water to antler me to death!
This was so helpful. I love brooches but have always been scared of the damage they cause my clothes.
