I have been getting comments about the Check engine light. It stays on for up to 30 seconds as it runs self diagnostics then turns off. Look a few seconds later and see it went out. Also, Peterbilt has been running a large stand-up sleeper in prior models. Peterbilt brought over 400 owner/operators to help design this sleeper version. It does have similar traits to the Kenworth with direct input from you guys thus the table being removed. Hope this helps everyone! Have a great weekend. JW
What did they design? It's identical to the 2016 I'm in now, except mine is a mid-roof. Same cabinets without any real storage, and same really really REALLY small fridge with a cigar box sized freezer. The only thing I see different is the pull-out workstation in front of the passenger seat. Don't get me wrong, I like my truck, but while it's got a great ride, the storage/sleeper area leaves a lot to be desired.
Did not think I would like an automatic after driving standards for years but let me tell you in traffic jams they are a blessing they are not bad once you get used to them

I like the extra passenger rollout desk. Also the drop down ladder for top bunk is an awesome idea. Way over due. Looks a little flimsy but it may be because its on video. Still I like the idea.it's a gorgeous looking truck.
I woud say this is much more beautifull and functional than Volvo. More over its Manual, the ultimate driving experiance. Love it. Planning to have one till mid 2019 and Peterbilt is on top of my list.
I have been looking at this. Are the drive axles further apart then they use to or are may eye playing tricks on me. They look about 5 inches more distance between them. Witch would make it harder to handle on icey roads when it comes to turning. Truck have really come a long ways in the last 50 or so years from the 180 Cummins. Hit a long grade with a heavy load and at the top you would be rocking back and fore in the seat when you were in you last gear and down to 7 to 800RPM just praying it make it over the top. IF YOU WERE RUNNING down the road and happen to get 70 mph out of it. You could bring it to a complete stop long side the road put back in gear it would take close to a half hour to stop it and get it back to 70mph and that would be at 2450 to 2500 rpm we ran a 4:11 to a 4:44 gear in the rearends and these old thing when pulling a hill you had to keep a close eye on water temp and pyro meter so you did not melt the pistons and there was no oil coolers on them no A/C and dam little heat in the winter. So don't bitch about the trucks because most of you if you had to drive on of this old bastard you would last about 5 miles and bring it back and take your stuff and go home. In 50 years and 7 million mile you have seen it all and heard it all. When you think you have mastered a truck go home and stay there. Over confidence will get someone killed every time.
Awesome but where do you sit for down time? It’s just two beds. Volvo and freightliner have a table and benches and Kenworth has a reversible passenger seat. I think Pete’s pretty well behind on that.

Why a fuel thirsty performance series instead of the X15E 500/1850? That killed it for me, it's supposed to be a fuel mileage Aero truck... Bunk looks awesome though
You make a great point Charles. Unfortunately, I did not spec the truck and I would have made that very recommendation as well. Very insightful comment. I am always happy to spec and order the truck exactly as you wish. Sometimes when stocking trucks, consumer feedback opts for Performance series trucks in the Colorado area. Great feedback and thanks for watching!
E series is trash, with all sorts of nonsense in the ECM, like coasting, forcing you to upshift in certain gears at 1300 rpms, we drove one of these and the next week drove one that wasn't E series, it ran faster, let you shift at any rpm you wanted and GOT BETTER FUEL MILEAGE.
@@christopherbrooker1887 That's ignorance Chris. Those are all customer parameters that can be set... If you're a company driver that's another story as they will be the only one that controls the settings. Hey Tony! The 587 is a 2.3 meter wide cab and has been out of production for a while. You're correct on the 579 hood but the rest is based on the 2.1 meter cab with integrated sleeper which is similar to all of the new KWs. This is the first integrated sleeper based on the new cab. It's miles ahead of the 587!
I'm in one of these except mine has the 12 speed auto. The sleeper is very spacious and the built-in factory fridge stays cold unlike those cheap 12-volt coolers. No complaints other than mine is an auto, no choice with being a company driver. My steer axle is also rated for 13,200 pounds, not sure if that is standard for these trucks or something my company had special ordered.
Think thats standard, the last company i worked for had the same type setup on the freightliners. Mainly helps to keep us out of a jam when a little overweight on the steer tires. If the suspension is rated above what the weight will be most cops will look the other way. Had that happen twice in the short time i drove otr.
Boone, these are air disc brakes. There are good and bad to them. Good: shorter stopping distance faster brake cooling quicker to change pads than to change drum brake shoes they adjust themselves Bad: 100 pounds per axle heavier and $1000 pounds per axle more expensive Some trucking companies are staying with drum brakes because drum brakes always worked before. And that's fine. Problem is, the government is trying to pay for Trump's tax cut by fining the shit out of truck drivers, and the easiest way to hit a guy with the Fine From Hell is to look at his slack adjusters. Discs are ALWAYS in adjustment. That's by design. I think by 2025 drums won't even be an option for Over the Road trucks, and a lot of vocational trucks will be using them too. They're already standard on garbage trucks.
Similar to the one I was assigned to drive when I drove for Don Hummer. The truck I drove had a single bunk and came with a memory foam mattress. Loved the truck and the company. Never drove a Peterbilt, until I became a driver for them. I took my road test in one, liked the way it shifted and I was hooked since. Don Hummer give you the option of what type of truck you want to drive and whether it's automatic or manual. Of course I went with the manual and loved it. The company had Pete's, Kenworth's, Freightliners and Internationals when I was there and I think some Volvo's. I drove Iowa regional, but preferred to be in the East coast....especially Jersey because I used to drive there everyday, for the other company I drove for. Pete's are the best, to me and yeah...it must be a manual. "An automatic is better when you're in heavy traffic/on the East coast", is bullshit and an excuse.....you obviously can't shift as good and should learn how and/or take a refresher course. Autos are really for girls/women! That's a different story though, I'm out!
My 2015 anniversary edition looks good a lot sitting in the shop, and after Thanksgiving it will look good again for excessive oil usage at 345000 miles.
George, we can do automated transmissions. The Endurant 12 is becoming more popular because the gear split is better than a 10 speed. They also have better warranties 😉
What does a truck like this cost, if you buy it as a private person (assuming there's a difference in price for company's?).? Just curious, I have no actual need for one :)

Need one of those 2018 with 13 speeds.
I am new to the industry - does this truck come in automatic or only in the manual?
Love to see one with dual stacks on the side!
Is the sleeper 80"?
Yes
Are all disk brakes a good thing compared to air brakes?
Boone, these are air disc brakes. There are good and bad to them.
Good:
shorter stopping distance
faster brake cooling
quicker to change pads than to change drum brake shoes
they adjust themselves
Bad:
100 pounds per axle heavier and $1000 pounds per axle more expensive
Some trucking companies are staying with drum brakes because drum brakes always worked before. They're already standard on garbage trucks.
look very comfy while practical
Where's the DEF I didn't see it
It is hidden behind the lower panel.
Love traveling and I would love to be a truck driver but I am afraid at 59 years old I might be considered too old to even attempt to get a CDL.
Automatics are very nice in traffic jams saves your left leg
Sr, i am looking for BUY but i can't pay NEW.. i am looking for use..
It will look awesome parked in the shop!
My 2015 anniversary edition looks good a lot sitting in the shop, and after Thanksgiving it will look good again for excessive oil usage at 345000 miles.
Why... No 10 speed automatic?
George, we can do automated transmissions. The Endurant 12 is becoming more popular because the gear split is better than a 10 speed. They also have better warranties 😉
ua-cam.com/video/uZKajOTa4Gg/v-deo.html here is the Endurant / Paccar 12
No cb radio?
Curb weight on this tractor would be around 21,000 pounds right is my guess
Hey Scores, I pulled the build codes. The weight is an estimate only but it read 17,500lbs.
I had a 579 with paccar motor 244 wb full wheel to wheel fairings and full of fuel it weighed 20650 lbs with 80 inch sleeper
I can’t wait to buy one.
What does a truck like this cost, if you buy it as a private person (assuming there's a difference in price for company's?).? Just curious, I have no actual need for one :)
Love them airbrake sounds
Buen video, con muchos datos. Hermoso camión, ya quisiera manejarlo. Saludos de Argentina.
