Keep the licence I say!
Yes personally agree that the current licence fee arrangement is better than an option of everyone paying whether they watch it or not. When the sales men(aka enforcement officers) turn up be polite, 'say not today and goodbye' and close the door don't sign or say anything. Mass evasion will prob lead to a tax on everyone.
In the days when all you had was BBC1 and BBC2, the licence fee made sense. Now that there is ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, all of whom have to rely on advertising, and then there are hundreds of freeview channels both tv and radio, all of which have to rely on advertising, and all the Sky channels that rely on a subscription, I think the TV Licence needs to stop. Partly because they regard any door with a lock on it as a dwelling, especially in shared houses, so every single renter has to pay a licence fee because your bedroom door has a lock on it, while houses could have 10 televisions and only pay one licence fee, so they hit the poorest the hardest, but also because there is no reason why the BBC cannot rely on advertising. The fact that it is a criminal offence not to pay a large amount for two bloody channels is really extraordinary.
Yeah and a few months ago it was let slip that channel 4 is a bbc channel. And with what the license fee says that points to the realisation that channel 5 and itv are bbc channels aswell

If the UK government do not get rid of TV licences you can look forward to total mayhem after 2027. If the licence is not scrapped, more people will be forced to opt out of the licence system and many more will just outright refuse to pay it. This will lead to less revenue for the Beeb, thereby forcing them to raise the licence fee to ridiculous levels, which in turn will force even more people to stop paying. Good - At least those of us without a licence will not be strong armed into paying an internet and media tax and those that are currently paying the licence are (thanks to people like you Chilli) waking up to realising they don't have to pay it and are ceasing to pay in droves. Keep the licence I say!
Yes personally agree that the current licence fee arrangement is better than an option of everyone paying whether they watch it or not. When the sales men(aka enforcement officers) turn up be polite, 'say not today and goodbye' and close the door don't sign or say anything. Mass evasion will prob lead to a tax on everyone.
tv license here to stay great news means i can continue not paying it
In the days when all you had was BBC1 and BBC2, the licence fee made sense.
@@lupaswolfshead9971 Channel 4 is owned by the Channel 4 Corporation. The BBC is owned by the BBC. Two entirely different consortiums. Channel 4 gets no funding at all from the taxpayer. It relies on advertising. The BBC enforce their licence fee by making the poor pay more, and prosecuting those that don't watch it but have to pay out of their pockets anyway.
Yet the Public bbc gave birth to the PRIVATE bbc (without the public's permission) that is oh so commercial selling of all things bbc we paid for.
completely incorrect try harder BBC released a finance statement .Claiming that they had to reduce their funding of channel 4 because it wasn't turning a profit and if the situation became worse ,they would be forced to sell off the assets. .The same with other channels they own under proxy corporations. @@bonariablackie4047
God bless chilli jon carne... great guy
They should put it up to 500 quid a year - so I can save even more money. 😂
That's what it'll be within the next 3 or 4 years.
Oh well, non payment of the scam will continue indefinitely in our house!
They will never stop this unofficial tax. Its too good an earner for them.
The government, regardless of party, will never scrap the licence fee. Therefore, the only way this stops is if million cancel the TV Tax. So I urge everyone to cancel this worthless service.
If the licence fee stays there is only one thing I can continue to do in retaliation to this outdated scheme, that is to gladly not pay the licence fee, as I have not done so for some years now, and hope to waste goon and BBC admin teams time, writing letters etc. I have not had a visit yet, but await the day when I can follow Jons advice, “who are you” followed by “not interested thank you” and close the door.
That's great news keep it exactly as it is. I havent paid for 15 years no intention of starting now. Let the lemmings keep paying.
Auntie was an old favourite in years gone by, but she has outstayed her welcome and her upkeep is becoming too costly. I think now is time to gently ease old Auntie into a retirement home.
Bbc died , when Morecambe and Wise passed away , its comedy content is a disgraceful waste of licence monies , even more so, the laughter free drivel, on radio 4 ..
First time I've ever agreed with Jeremy Kyle
Looking a bit rugged there, Jon! Like it!😉👍 Let it stay, I'll still not pay!
"Our powers are limited"
Says a parliamentary MP?!?
What a cop out!
Parliament is sovereign!
If the BBC is doing something unethical, and parliament has the inclination to have it stopped, they absolutely can do so irrespective of the charter.
Don't watch! Don't PAY
It can be done overnight dont pay the criminals
Just 2 years free and the letters come and come. Thanks to you I'm not scared of the knock on the door. Oddly the letter today referred to officers rather than enforcement officers. Made me wonder if you showing the job advert for field officers had some effect.
Yes Jon those problems you talked about regarding Nadine come under the heading of ''Hypocrisy''.
Big words Jeremy, glad you're standing up for the vulnerable, not hypocritical at all!
everyone should stop paying,, what can they do...
Stick it on your council tax instead so you have to pay regardless 🙄
As a victim of child abuse I will never pay a TV license fee because of the way they protected Jimmy Savs, the cheek they even demand this fee after that, BBC has no shame
Just thought you would want to hear this, just phoned tv licence to revoke right of implied access and updated my no licence needed, to which the operator repeated herself despite me telling her I only have a tv for video gaming proceeded to re ask me if I watched tv or downloaded bbc programs or iplayer! They really don’t seem to understand when people say no, she then told me I could be liable for a visit to which I politely reminded her that as I’m removing right of implied access the only way they can come to my address is with a warrant
Thanks Jon. Keep em coming👍🏻
Parliament is sovereign, they can decriminalise non-payment any time they like.
How else can they push their propaganda.
Not in my house.
I'm on old age pension and have to pay for a TV Licence. Local MP is on £83k and claims hers on expenses which tells you why MP's don't care about the cost .. they don't pay it
The fundamental point you are missing here Chilli is the tories will be dumped out of office by 2027,so basically they couldn't give a toss right now.
It's only stays if people want it to stay: you are not forced to pay it, you only pay it if you want to pay it. Always remember that.
Fool the people that pay it
Take these people to court charge them with harassment. Send them to jail.
TV licence can stay where it wants, will never stay in my house, they can arrest me, fine me, put me in jail, still not getting one, ever.
There is no room in jail's.
@@philippayne4951 nah I recon they will just take all our stuff, bailiffs seizing goods, just another dirty tactic they use. Take your stuff what you've worked for.
The ultimate irony its free in prison lol unbelievable
They all have their hands in the cookie jar
That’s a shame surely a subscription or advertising funded model is the way forward
This should be turned into a private company…why the hell is this still going on..let them advertise of force them to!
It can stay. I'm not paying them a penny 😂😅
The thing that concerns me the most here, is not just what she said, but what she DIDN'T say..
She mentioned decriminalising not payment of TV licence, but it's concerning she didn't say a thing about scrapping the Tv licence and making the BBC funded by ads like the other broadcasters (which is what the majority wants) , or by subscription, or scrapping the BBC altogether.
I find it absolutely shocking and obscene, that in 2024, we still have to pay the BBC, in order to watch not just BBC content, but live content from ANY broadcaster, and from anywhere in the world; utter madness..
I am just 75 and would not have a licence free. These people can have me pay the court fees but I still will not pay for a licence
'Our (government) powers are limited to stop that (criminal prosecution targetting)"
.... Doesn't UK law have rules on 'extortion with menaces'???
Typical 'Post Office' response from Frazer, mumbling and fumbling.
'Yes, I have uh, I have said uh, that I don't agree with criminal crossecutions' is she on the bottle? 😜🤪
What about a scheme to REDUCE the licence fee by 50% every year until it becomes pointless. That would give the BBC time to adjust and find alternative funding. Not that they'll get it...
I’m done with the BBC, giving them money for nothing. Viewing habits have changed to the extent that you don’t need to watch stuff as it’s being broadcast.
Not paying nowt, cancelled the licence and haven’t looked back since 👍
It'll be interesting to see how things progress with more and more Gen-Zs becoming householders. The understanding I have is that a large number of the younger generation rely solely on UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney plus etc for their entertainment, thereby not needing or paying for, a TV licence.
Which is why they are losing 80,000 households a month. That is un-sustainable.
@@timg1246 I do have a feeling that an unavoidable tax will come into force at some point to pay for the bbc. I just hope it's not for a few years yet! 🤞🏻
@@Andy-eo3mqThe longer the current situation drags on, the lower the baseline for the budget when it does go on tax.
Don't watch TV & it's gone!
You kick off as much as you like chilli, and Jerry, having a go..
It wouldn’t take three years to give the free license back to the over 75’s, they could make that announcement tomorrow .
Haven't paid in 10 years as I don't watch broadcast TV so not bothered.
They wouldn't know if you did....
Finally ditched mine last weekend, that 170 quid a year, freed up to pay for streaming actual entertainment, and not wall to wall news, cookery/ repair drivel and countless repeats of repeats of repeats of repeats of repeats....
exactly enough is enough,,,,, fiver a month tops
If it suits the overlords, it's done in a week.
If Parliament decided to make the BBC a commercial network, it could happen quite quickly. It would also mean a lot of pointless managers and pen-pushers being fired. That would give them the chance to get gainful employment.
LET IT STAY....... JUST MORE PEOPLE NEED TO STOP PAYING.......IS THE SIMPLE SOLUTION! X
Jezza is not the bloke folk think he is, he is actually a very kind, sincere and genuine human being.
.hes a sneering ghoul. Dont be daft.
Thank goodness Richie has promised that no one earning under £20,000 will pay tax.
Who's Richie?
It's good they're keeping the licence fee, which we can choose not to pay, rather than put the cost on our council tax, broadband bill, or whatever, which there's no escape from paying.
