Hello, how are you? I am following you from Jordan. If I bought the book for soap, can the book be translated into Arabic because I cannot read in English 😊
I'm surprised it turned out so white. In my recipe I use cocoa butter, shea butter and olive oil and it turns a pastel yellow. I always thought this was due to the olive and cocoa butter(organic, this pale yellow). Seems it was only because of the cocoa butter, hm interesting. Nice video! Thanks :)
as a castile soap maker/purist...adding other oils to an olive oil only batch, renders not a castile soap. sometimes my bars get a greener hue based on the greener olive oil i can get.
Thank you for the consistent high-vibrational and soothing energy throughout your videos. I'm new to the channel (and also soap making), and was wondering if you or anyone else on the comments thread had any tips for getting harder castille/bastille soap. Because of my sensitive skin and young children I like to make gentle soaps with as few ingredients as possible. I almost exclusively use olive oil (pomace), and shea butter as my fats.
Add sodium lactate will help harden soap into very hard bars. Add about ½ teaspoon per pound of oil to the recipe. Stir it into the lye solution well, making sure it is fully dissolved before adding the lye to the oils.
I was told the temperature of lye solution and oil should be not more than 10c, but in this video, oil was 22c and lye solution was 55c, can you please explain? Many thanks
Me encantan tus jabones, este jabón de castilla se puede hacer con proceso en caliente? Lo tienes en algún vídeo y no lo veo? Me encantaría poderlo hacer, muchas gracias,🙏🏻🌷
After it's cured, yes. If you use it too soon it'll essentially be a sodium hydroxide relaxer to your hair which would not only potentially damage your hair but would be extremely dangerous to come in close contact with your skin and eyes.
Hi I want to ask you something. You said let the soap cured for 1 to 12 months... way so much time? I heard it was only 30 days. Just I want to be sure... Thanks!
Again great video ma'am, I have one question, why did you keep mould in oven? Please explain this process Thanks for sharing such beautiful videos. Regards.
Thank you so much! I wanted to make sure that the soap would go through gel so that's why I put it in the oven. Usually it's done by pre heating the oven to 50 degrees celsius, putting the soap in the oven and then turning it off and letting the soap sit there for a day or so.
Lye is necessary for making soap. Any soap you've ever used was created using lye. The chemical reaction when lye and oils are mixed (saponification) creates a compound that is neither lye nor oil. It is soap.
My olive oil soap doesn't get any thicker than at the 15 minute mark. Save your time, give a water discount so it releases from the mold faster, and everyone will be good. Always turns out fine.
Ohhhhhhhh my god... Thank you so much for info that castille soap need two hours for very light trace... I was stressed out why my soap still liquid, when my soap will trace? 😂
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but it looked done. Do I need to cure it for a full month? Lol Im doing a project for school and I need it to be cured a little sooner but I really wanna use olive oil lol
Four to six weeks of cure time is necessary for the saponification process to complete. It insures that there is no free lye or oil remaining, and is completely safe to use.
Your videos are very pleasant.I like ur videos. I watch more more time one video. I have a question, can we add sodium lactate in castil soap?If yes what will be quantity ?
I poured the lye solution right after I measured the temperatures with the infrared thermometer shown in the video. The lye solution was 52 °C and the olive oil was 22 °C
i am wondering about the differences i am about to write. in soapcalc here are the numbers for a 500gr. batch of castile: 500 gr. Olive oil. (with a 5 % SF) 190.0 gr water (distilled) 64.35 gr. lye (NaOH) your numbers for a similar, 550 gr. batch: 550 gr. olive oil 85 gr. water (distilled) 70.8 gr lye the difference between the lye quantities is slight...but the water differences are very different...is there an explanation that you can say about the water differences? thanks for your input...kiitos!
The first recipe has a 25% lye concentration and the second I think has a 45% lye concentration. I prefer soaping with a water discount because this way I can unmold the soap quicker, I have less issues with soda ash and the soap will become much harder sooner as there's less water that needs to evaporate out of the soap while it's curing🙂
Lye is a base. Acids and bases neutralize each other, so adding any type of acid will have a negative effect on the process. Likely, the liquid would not saponify or solidify.
Well they can be very similar and made out of similar ingredients. Castile soap is always 100% olive oil. Marseille soap means that the soap is produced in the Marseille region of France and it can contain other oils than olive oil too.
Stirring for two hours? No way. There are recipes that are much faster that involves heating the olive oil. I think I will try that. Also faster curing time. I would also prefer someone speaking.

Why didn't you preheat the oil to a similar temperature to the lye?

Use cold water, as mixing in the lye causes an exothermic reaction, raising the temperature to nearly boiling.

You need to let it cure for at least 2 months, otherwise it will dissolve in your hand at the first wash.

That is no 70.8 g of lye
5% lye discount

The saponification process is complete at 4 - 6 weeks. After that, the soap is good to use.
