Cheese Rolls Recipe (Mashed Potato vs Powdered Milk)

  • This is the comparison of the cheese bread roll recipes made with powdered milk and mashed potato like Mary Grace. Which will make a softer cheese bread roll? Which will taste better? This video will answer those questions.
    Please enjoy the video and I hope you'll watch till the end to see how our kids reacted and what we prefer for this recipe.
    Cheese Bread Roll Recipe (for a single bowl of 2 cups):
    2 cups flour + extra on the side
    200 mL of milk
    1 1/2 tsp yeast + 2 tsp of sugar
    2 egg yolks
    1/4 cup softened butter
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 1/2 tsp Himalayan salt (see note on video)
    Your choice of either 1/4 cup mashed potato or 1/4 cup of powdered milk
    Egg wash (1 egg yolk+1 tbsp of milk)
    Butter for brushing the top
    Sugar

    Thank you sooo much for this vlog. This a true comparison of two different ingredients in one bread mix. Your family review is helpful in three ways. 1. It cuts the guessing work of which one to bake. 2. It saves time ( from baking to washing ) 3. And the money spend on buying ingredients and running to the grocery. Salamat.

    Tried this today and it’s sooo perfect, I did the MP cause I tried so many recipes of cheese roll with with PM and MP already and yours passed my taste bud and Iknow my husband will like this too!     Definitely, itong recipe mo ang gagamitin ko with instant mashed potato! Siguro makikinig ako sa comments ng son mo, bawasan ko kaya ng salt! Usually naman kasi, a pinch of salt ang gamit ko tuwing nag-babake ako! Kasi nga naman, malaki na yun cheddar cheese inside so you can taste the saltiness of it! Marami na ako napanuod, iba nga ito!! Ikaw na!!

    I totally prefer po the one with mashed potato! For me it is more flavorful, though actually both looks soft. Thanks for sharing both recipes kuya! :) Will definitely try it one of these days.

      Magandnag araw po! Opo, nagustuhan po ng matatanda, pero hindi gaano ng mga bata, kasi ang expected nila is matamis eto dahil sa sugar sa top. Pag kagat nila may "salty" daw sa loob (ung cheese) :) Pero overall, wifey approves, kaya all is good :) God bless!

    Gusto ko po yung measurement mo kasi usually up to 2 cups lang.. kasi pag gumagawa po kame 4 cups dahil sa mga napapanood kong ibang recipe, sobrang dame... 2 cups is saktong sakto samen. hahaha. Thank you!

      Ayos, saktong sakto pala. Pero kung may gusto kayong i try na ibang recipe na 4 cups, divide nyo lang po sa 2 ang lahat ng ingredients, then same results din lang po sya. God bless!

    super soft din naman po ng results ng cheeserolls even if powdered milk po! just use “WHOLE milk powder”instead of SKIMMED milk powder kase po ang skimmed onti lang po ang fat content di compared sa whole milk which has a higher fat content😅

    Super yummy! Kakagawa ko lang this morning. I used real potatoes and super lambot nya! Make more videos pa po ng mga bread specially pinoy bread. Dito lang ako kumukuha ng recipes sa videos mo very helpful for me 👍

    Hi! I've tried making the one using powdered milk and it was super soft a few hours after baking. I stored the rest on a tupperwear and left it on the counter overnight. The next day it's not as soft anymore. May I know how do you store your home made bread so that it stays soft for longer periods?

      I store them in air tight containers. Less air, the softer they are the next day. God bless!

    Pero parang kulang po sa alsa
    Ano po kaya kulang?
    I used instant dry yeast po.

      Magandang araw po! I would not suggest adding more yeasts, kasi baka mag yeasty smell and taste na sya. SIguro you could prolong the proofing time to give the dough more time to rise para maging fluffy and soft sya. I hope this helps and God bless!

    Looks very appetizing, however, I am curious how you cooked the mashed potato. Was it boiled or steamed. Please advise as I am very anxious to bake this recipe. Also, puwede ba gamitin ang all purpose flour? Thank you po!

      Magandang araw po! Ginamit lang namin is ung mga naka box na powdered mashed potato. Wala na po kaming time gumawa from scratch nung vinivideo namin eto kaya nag instant na lang kami. Same results pa din naman po sya. Pwede din po ang APF dito sa recipe na eto. God bless!

    Hi gusto ko po itry to sa oven toaster namin kaso wala naman pong nakalagay na min or temperature sa oven namin, number lang po siya and natatakot po ako masunog or hindi maluto yung gagawin ko

      Magandang araw po! The best way to check your temperature is by using an oven thermometer. Medyo mahirap nga po sa situation nyo kung hindi nyo malalaman ang temperature ng oven nyo. Another thing is make sure na may bake function po ang oven nyo para sa ibaba lang manggagaling nag init. God bless!

    Did you refrigerate yung remaining bread dough? Pwede po ba if maliit ang baking tray na naka room temp lang ang second batch until mbake lng first batch?thanks!

      Hindi po convection oven ang oven namin nung ginawa ko ang video. Regular lang sya na walang fan. Bottom heating element lang ang gumagana kapag nasa bake setting sya. Here's a video explaining ung mga heating elements sa oven:

      Magandang araw po! Hindi po tumatagal ng more than 2 days ang bread saamin eh, but for reference here's my video showing na malambot pa din sya kinabukasan:

      Basta keep the bread in an air tight container then it should be fine. :) Sa lamesa lang po namin nilalagay, kaya I would say around 21-14C ang temp sa bahay namin. God bless!

      Magandang araw po! I wouldn't suggest using mashed potato for the monggo bread, spanish or pandecoco. Well, personal preference ko lang po sya, kasi kapag may mashed potato, sobrang lambot. Minsan gusto ko din na medyo chewey ang bread. Pero, as I always say, your kitchen, your rules. Pwede nyo po i try, baka mas ok sa panlasa nyo. I hope this helps, God bless!

    Hello po.. Tanong ko po if needed po ba munang iproof bago ipasok sa ref overnight or after kneading ipasok na po sa ref agad.. Thank you po sa pagsagot... 🙏🙏🙏

      Magandang araw po! After ko sya ma shape, saka ko sya pinapasok sa ref, so bale dun na sya aalsa, although sobrang kaunti lang kasi nga malamig. Bago ko sya i bake kinabukasan, I put it out in the counter for a minimum of 30-45 minutes para hindi na malamig nag loob nya kapag i babake ko na. I hope this helps and God bless!

      Magandang araw po! Naku hindi ko na nakita ang brand, si misis ang bumili. But you can just use any brand ng mashed potato, it would have the same results pa din. Much beter sana kung real mashed potato ang gagamitin nyo, pero kung wala, kahit mga instant mashed potato na lang pwede na po yan. God bless!

    Izzit in TAGALOG "lembut" means soft? If it yes same like Bahasa Melayu. Btw I'm from Sabah, Malaysia

    Sir, ilang minutes po ang maximum time sa 2nd proofing? Pag po malamig ang weather, ano po ginagawa nyo para mabilis umalsa yung dough lalo na po sa 2nd proofing? 🙂 salamat po

      Magandang araw po! As a rule of thumb I never leave the dough out for a total of 4 hours kasi may gatas at egg sya. Usually before 4 hours either ready to be baked na ang dough or nasa loob na sya ng fridge, ready to be baked tomorrow. I hope this helps, God bless!

      Rich C. Kitchen maraming salamat po. May time po kasi na halos mag 2 hours na yung 2nd proofing ko pero hindi pa din nag do double size yung dough ko. Meron po kasi nag sabi sakin na maximum 45 minutes lang yung 2nd proofing, pag more than 45 minutes mag aamoy yeast na daw po yung bread ko.

      @@clarissapalacio4179 sa isang video ko, for the first proofing almost 3 hours sya bago nag double I'm size. 21C ang temperature sa kitchen namin. If you can try to look for a warm place where you can keep the dough. Try nyo po sa loob ng oven baka maka tulong eto..God bless!

      Magandang araw po! Pwedeng pwede po! Yan lagi ang workflow ko, mamasahin kosa gabi then kinabukasan ko ibabake. Pero I always leave it inside teh fridge after ko ma shape ang dough, kasi may eggs and milk sya, baka masira kung more than 4 hours sya nasa labas. I would suggest putting this in the fridge after nyo ma shape then kinabukasan bago nyo i bake, leave it on top of the counter for atleast 30-45 minutes before baking para maging room temp muna sya.       PweKahit regular na nilagang patatas tapos i mash pwede po un. Ang gamit namin dito is ung powdered na naka box, tapos nilagyan namin ng hot milk para maging mashed potato. God bless!

      Sorry to hear that na sticky ang dough nyo. Usually kapag nilalagyan ko ng mashed potato talagang sticky, and nag dadagdag talaga ako ng flour. Now, it depends kung gaano kadami, kasi madaming variables, like ung humidity, size of yolk, quality of flour, etc. Minsan 1/2 cup, minsan naman 3/4 cup ang additional flour ko. Really depends on the day. Just keep adding till you get the right consistency. Hope this helps, God bless!

      Magandang araw po! I am using active dry yeast. Usually kapag hindi nag double ang size 2 reasons ang involve with the yeast, either masyadong mainit ang liquid na nilagay nyo at namatay sila, or baka expired na ang yeast nyo. About sa stickiness ng dough, I have never added more than 3/4 cup sa minamasa ko. Not sure on why you have to add 2 cups of additional flour to this.... Pasensya na po I wish I could be of more help. God bless!
