Really wish they would go back and explore this IP again. The Order had a really great premise and world; steampunk Knights of The Round Table with Nikola Tesla as their quatermaster. It's a shame that the game failed, I understand why as the complaints regarding the gameplay are well warranted. Really hope someday Sony revisit it again.
@@sanskarmishra5309 Sony owns the IP, they could give it to one of their 1st party studios to work on it, and possibly improve the lacking elements of the first game, such as gameplay. But I doubt it would ever happen, the game just wasn't held in good regard nor make a lot of money.
Kinda surprised this didn’t get a sequel. It seemed like a second entry would have fixed most of the problems. I feel like overall this generation spent too much time on remasters and bloated open world games rather than solid original IPs.
I told my brother this recently. This is by far the weakest generation of gaming with arguably the best hardware we have seen to date. With what the PS5 can supposedly do, all we are getting are remasters and games that are also ported to PS4 (I understand why) which I feel dumb downs the game performance not making it a true PS5 game. I feel like the only real ps5 game we got so far is Returnal. I hope that chances fairly soon.
@@paragonknight3307 no they aren’t ready at dawn were bought by Facebook to develop vr games in 2020 and there are no other developers that have been hired on for a sequel
@@paragonknight3307 no shit it’s so they can continue selling the game you dipshit it doe’s not mean a sequel is coming if a sequel was coming then they would have filed a trademark for the sequel not the original game
This game had so much potential. I really wish that they would have been given the chance to make a sequel because the concept/characters/world building were amazing.
@@schibleh531 I hope not. We have far passed the "30fps is cinematic" excuse almost a decade ago. No developers would be stupid enough to go back to that dumb fad but the publishers on the other hand...
What really sucks is that the world, characters and presentation were actually off the fucking charts. I was even getting into the story and then it just ends. It's like you get to the final act and then they just ran out of money and decided to call it quits. I was so dumbfounded with how it ended I literally thought it wasnt real and there was going to be some huge epilogue or something, but no. That really was the whole game. It was clear they put so much money and effort into this. I still want a sequel. This world deserves to continue.
i felt the same exact way i was surprisingly intrigued throughout the whole game i didnt mind the gameplay or the QTE moments maybe thats just my love for telltale etc. made me feel that way but when it got to the ending i thought the twist of the alternate world was going to come into play for the ending then youre right it just ends lol
@@Demetrix13 Yeah it was very jarring. There was a really cool final mission and set piece shootout. We learn all this cool backstory about the Order and secret betrayals and all that dope shit, Galahad is made a fugitive and the city is going into martial law. I'm like damn this is getting intense, can't wait to see where it's going in the final act or two. Sike! That's it. Game's over.
This game was like Ryse: Son of Rome. You maxed out all of your development time and energy into making it look as good as possible, without putting much thought into what makes a game a game; the actual gameplay.
Its actually worse, at least Ryse had a cool presentation, story and choreography on its simple combat mechanic. This one was just a bland corridor shooter. Both were games designed to be a graphical showcase anyway.
That's one reason I'm not into most cinematic-based / hyper-realistic games nowadays. The visual surely looks impressive and eye-catching, but doesn't feel like actual video games which takes away player's control most of the time.
Game looked incredible then and still does to this day. I just wish it didn't come at the expense of everything else. It's also strange to look back on when people feared games becoming too short - with this being the prime example back then - when we have heavily bloated experiences dominating the market right now.
Oh man I sure do love me some heavily bloated open world games. 10 minutes staring at the back of a car or a horse's butt between actual missions where you actually play the game part of the game is just the best. 🙄
@@mjc0961 i dont think its about complaining about the game being short. the complaint was the devs knew and still charged full price ($60) when this should have been $40 at most especially when there's no other game mode
@@S.G.W.C. I rather play 5 hours of a great game than any "hundreds of hours" of a game that copy paste the same monotonous gameplay. The length of a game should not be tied in with quality since it is usually the opposite.
@@GG-zv9ku excellent answer and it’s funny how gamers can’t or won’t pay $60 for a 80+ hour journey but want to complain about 6-10 hours being short and not worthy of their money
This game was released in a time when the hate towards Sony, from the Xbox fanboys and the US gaming press was so big, that I wonder how the playstation managed to survive. After the combat x360 vs ps3, everybody seemed to hate Sony. No way Sony could release a good exclusive title... I remember reading most ps4 reviews. Not only the ps4 was more powerful in paper, but in reality, it managed to destroy the x1. launch games could easily run at 1080p on the ps4, while the same game would only run at 900p, or even 720p. The kinekt2 was a joke. The voice control was a joke. It was much less powerful. And many other disadvantages. But despite that, the US reviews would still give a higher score/review to the x1. After the x360 success, no way the ps4 could win. So they would use everything, to destroy the ps4... like the ps4 launch titles, where every single exclusive title got destroyed by the press. Kill zone shadow fall, with its incredible graphics ? Low scores. Reasons ? Crap like 'ohhh, killzone SF plays like other killzone games'. Really ? Should it play as halo, instead ? Knack, with a great, lovely story, great characters, great old school gameplay . The red reviewers absolutely hated it. They thought they would finish it in 20 minutes, to quickly post their review, but instead, with an old-school gameplay, they kept dying.. and dying... and n dying... thousands of times. Etc etc etc. Then, The order 1886 was announced. 6 months before release, there were already hundreds of doom and gloom articles about the game. 10 reasons why it will flop. 12 reasons why it will be bad. Etc etc. Suddenly, the QTE became a 3rd world problem. All the negative reviews were already written months before release. The journalists wouldn't even play the game. Their crap review was ready, 4 months in advance. And of course, when the game was out, it got destroyed by the press. Ah, those quick time events !!! It didn't matter what game it was, any ps4 exclusive had to be destroyed.
@@only4posting Now the tables have turned, it seems whatever Xbox does will be bad no matter what xd Going back to topic, The Order: 1886 is very flawed but I enjoyed it. The biggest shame for me was that all the lycan fights were QTE sequences when they should’ve been the primary focus of the story, not random citizens/militia. Bloodborne got it right, fortunately.
Honestly, I wish this was an actual movie. But if there could be a reimagining of this game that focused on gameplay, that'd be great. I doubt Sony would ever come back to this though.
What sucks is that The Order 1886 had it all set up to be a killer app for the PS4. Fresh ideas, intriguing setting, and what looked to be great gameplay. But it felt more like a huge interactive movie than a game. Which is why it feel from grace very hard!
It was just ahead of its time, had it released in 2018 when walking sims were all the rage, I think it could have done much better. It still looked incredible in 2018.
@@RamblyBear Doubt it. It's not a walking sim, so it wouldn't draw comparisons with walking sims. It's a boring third person shooter with some QTE monsters. What it should have done is focus more on cool fights against the monsters, and less on shooting at bog standard human beings.
They overdid everything in terms of linearity and QTEs. The game was a prime example of how graphics weren't everything, it was gameplay that mattered more.
I’d say it’s proof that critics have far too much sway in creative industries, things get squashed in 24 hours by cynical critics. If this game had a chance in the players hands, without knowing other people opinions beforehand people wouldn’t have cared. Memes are awful and destructive.
@@RareBirdGames it's not critics who decided. The problem was that people who played the game didn't get more than 10-15 hours out of it. That's just not enough for a full priced game
@@foxbox6016 The story and gameplay of the game is not good enough for every hour to count. Hell, even God of War 4 gets boring in parts, even Doom Eternal does. That's why there needs to be a value adjustment. 10-15 hours would only be good enough if most aspects of the game are unique. Otherwise at least give enough content to last 30 hours
The atmosphere and story had kept me coming back to play this every year since it came out. Love it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sequel one day... But won't hold my breath.
Ryse and 1886 are two of the best looking games I’ve ever seen on console despite being the first games on their consoles and even now I can only thing of a few games that come close. Truly beautiful games that both had interesting stories and fun mechanics until those mechanics became repetitive.
Exactly, Ryse & 1886 showed what the real difference between the PS360 generation & the newer (at the time) PS4/X1 consoles. Games today are just focused on multi-platform releases. I really hope we see more & more games take advantage of the current PS5/X-series consoles.
The Order 1886 was an interesting idea but I don’t think the game warranted it’s price tag. It was too expensive to produce and too expensive to justify buying it. If they expanded the game and gave it more depth then the visual polish would take a hit-thus sort of ruining the selling point. It also definitely tanked the game that it relied so heavily on design tropes from the 360 era such as COD style QuickTime events, unskippable cutscenes and “follow a talking NPC” moments
Being 13 when this came out, the visuals, story and setting captivated me. The soundtrack to this day is one of my favorites of all time. I hope that someday we will get some sort of continuation of this amazing world.
I never had a problem with a short singleplayer campaign, for me, I'd rather choose a well-laid out singleplayer campaign that's only a few hours long than a convoluted 120 hour storyline that feels very repetitive. As much as I love Skyrim and Assassin's Creed long gameplay, but as I am right now, an adult with a job and a family, I love a good short game that I can fit in my daily 2 hour game time.
With today's prices of $70 for a game? Nah, maybe $50 for short games, but why would I buy this game when I can buy better indie games (let's say A Plague Tale) for much less?
@@danipatac7210 its all about what gaming means to you. im in the same boat as OP. ii pay full price but the game is short, if i really enjoyed that short time, then i feel like i got my money worth. i paid full price for long games but never get to finish them because life is so busy, then i come back and forget where im at or what quest im on. its just no fun.
@@cluclap Sounds like a lot of excuse making. It's not just a short game. It's REALLY short, and it effectively ends on a cliff hanger. You're paying almost a hundred bucks for a couple hours of play? No. We're being ripped off. It's a tech demo, not a game.
@@OpenMawProductions I'm not making an excuse for this game in particular, just that I understand where the OP is coming from. I'm actually in the middle of playing this game now and enjoying my time so far hence why I ended up on this video
@@OpenMawProductions I think the concentration on length is silly. some experiences are worth $70 for 5 hours. I spend $30 going out with friends to see a 2 hour movie. some experiences are not worth $70 even if it is 40 hours. It was really cool even though it was short and had so many quick time events, the story was also really cool and the whole world and artstyle was amazing. I really would like to see another order game bigger and better truly an hidden gem if you haven't played it.
@@Cenot4ph Resident evil 4 is a "QTE game" too then by that logic, should that have failed? I agree that QTEs suck and I haven't experienced a single QTE that wouldn't have been better as a straight cutscene, but saying that the entire game should fail due to that relatively insignificant factor is a bit unfair tbh.
I'm glad you liked it, but it's in no way a hidden gem, it's just another Heavenly Sword-esque launch title with too much buzz that fizzles barely halfways through.
In terms of visuals, soundtrack and art, The Order was impressive. It's sad the gameplay wasn't good enough. Those quick time events were totally out of the place. I actually liked the characters. This game deserved better =/
It had such a good setup but the gameplay was a let down.. Like whose idea was it to make intense werewolves fights into QTEs and the story didn't go anywhere.. It ended up being so predictable.. They didn't go far enough with the alternate world they made.
Trailers and whatnot making you think it's a cool game about fighting monsters. Then you play it and you just shoot at normal human beings for a few hours, and very rarely do a QTE to fight a monster. So much wasted potential.
I really did like it. It was definitely short and relied too much on QTE's but the shooting was solid, the weapons were fun, and even today it still looks really nice. The gun that shoots clouds of smoke that could be ignited with the secondary fire is up there with guns like the cerebral bore as far as best weapons in a shooter.
i remember getting this game confused with Bloodborne at first, since they were both about victorian england, had dark aesthetics and were about killing monsters.
Yes, and I remember my friends not getting Bloodborne because they thought it'd be like 1886, no matter what I said. I was so annoyed about the confusion since they came out around the same time. Sony should've known better.
I totally agree. The visuals and world design are outstanding, even today. I have just one thing to add: It wasn't a launch title. The Order came out two years after the release of the PS4. But it was struck down by a game that came out just a month later. A game that also featured a Steampunk-esque world with guns and werewolves - Bloodborne.
I just played this game last month and throughly enjoyed it. It's not perfect. A sequel would have been great to build on. A shame its so expensive to create a game now that a game that does poorly is dead on arrival. In the PS2 era a game like this would have almost certainly gotten a sequel and been able to fix its problems and build off of what the first game did right.
Yea, I mean look at Killzone. If the first game released in 2015 it would have been the end of it. But it had a mediocre outing and was still allowed to pump out sequels to varying degrees of success.
I think if this came out today it would've been praised. I personally love this game, but at the time it was up against Bloodborne, Metal Gear Phantom Pain, The Witcher 3, Batman Arkahm Knight, and much more better games. 2015 was stacked! At 2015 gamers were tired of QTE's & short triple A games. Now games are SO damn long that most aren't completed: as least for me. So I think if it came out today if would've felt like a breath of fresh air, especially if it sold for $40 instead of $60. I think bad press and heard mind mentality killed this and driveclub. Wish they got a second chance.
Early games on some systems can be classed very much as tech demos for what a system is capable of often relying very heavily those things with very little substance. Mainly because of how much development time they had and they were getting used to the new hardware. The SNES launched with essentially two of these in Pilotwings and F-Zero and beyond the use of mode-7 the games were very short.
I personally loved this game and got the platinum trophy in it (not a hard feat lol). But I really loved the style, presentation, and story. I decided to write a letter to the developer to thank them for the excellent experience and hope that the negativity didn't discourage them from continuing to make amazing projects!
The story is pretty flawed though. Galahad just stormed into a private company and killed a bunch of guards because the rebel leader told him something evil was afoot? That is not good writing
For me it was the 24 FPS meme that killed the game, I would very much like a 10h campaign experience if it's good. As a full time worker these days, I'd like a higher quality experience in less time rather than a repetitive grind that I have no time for.
I dare say this is one of my favorite ps4 games. Yes, it's short and boss battles are easily forgettable. But, the setting, the solid shooting mechanics and of course the graphics made it a very special experience. I really hope this saga will be continued one day
I picked it up on sale for $30NZD and I honestly thought it was a brilliant game. I truly believe it was an underrated title. Look at the games we have now, ie: Saints row, the GTA "remasters" and 2042. And now I'm a dad. What I would kill for a 10hr campaign that engrosses me in an amazing story and world, has solid shooting mechanics and great gunplay, looks outstanding and plays well in 2022. Make The Order: 1887, make it a 15hr solo or coop campaign, just like this and It'll sell so well in todays climate. But its sony we're talking about here.
That's bullshit and plain unfair saying 2022 is a shit year for games by listing the worst examples. If you actually bother to open your eyes and look around, there's tons of polished, great games to enjoy. To name a few: - Stray - MultiVersus - Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - Elden Ring - Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Horizon: Forbidden West - Sifu - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - Trek To Yomi - Dying Light 2 - The Last of Us: Part 1 - Sniper Elite 5 - Destroy All Humans 2 - TMNT: Shredder's Revenge - Splatoon 3 - Ghostwire: Tokyo - Tunic - Rollerdrome - Return to Monkey Island - Cult of The Lamb - Weird West - Slime Rancher 2 - Metal: Hellsinger - The Quarry - OlliOlli World We're not even taking account amazing games from the past that finally got ported to PC like Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted, Death Stranding, Judgement, Lost Judgement, etc. Or even games that receives substantial updates like Destiny 2 The Witch Queen and Season of The Haunted expansions or Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners update. As a non-dad, I would be disappointed if you are my father.
It was a interesting game in that graphically even if released today it would be considered a good looking game.... QTE aside it played well, story wasn't awful, had a lot of creativity going for it, its a shame they didn't put effort into its game length. But it did at least showcase what was possible graphically at the start of the 8th console generation.
The problem wasn't the length. If the game was longer it probably would have been received even more poorly, because of how mediocre the gameplay was. I wouldn't wanted more of the third person shooting it offered, and I certainly wouldn't have wanted more of the QTE monster fights. They should have had more interesting fights with the monsters, rather than focusing on an interesting third person shooter against normal humans. The monsters should have been the strength of the game, instead it had the least attention put towards it.
@@mjc0961 The repeat QTE mini boss fights were a bit much. From the video I guess the idea was to keep the player entertained through the cutscenes since the game was heavy on cut scenes.
@@John-996 Most people disagreed with you, I would agree with you if the game didn't release at full price as a 60$ game. Games don't have to be long, a couple of my favorite games are shorter... but at a 60$ price tag, you expect a full AAA game length experience.
I personally hope that this game will serve as an objective lesson for developers that GAMES ARE NOT MOVIES. If you want to make machinema or a straight-up 3D CGI movie, then by all means do so. We can always use more high-production animated movies. But to take a medium defined by its interactivity and spend the majority of your time creating non-interactive and barely-interactive facsimiles of cinema is a waste of time. Be you video game or be you movie. Trying to be both just takes you down the path of FMV games from the 90s.
Bold choice making this video in 2:3:5 widescreen. Definitely mimics the cinematic "anamorphic" look the game itself had, I haven't seen many vids uploaded in this ratio honestly. Pretty cool.

@@LauftFafa clearly I'm exaggerating on it being a tech demo but if I have to spell it out I have never bought a game to watch a movie. I hate David Cage "games". Nothing but my own preferences influence my purchases. Ignoring side content Mass Effect 1 is only about 15 hours but I've played that a dozen times. The Order 1886 wasn't worth the 60 I spent and it wasn't worth replaying. Personally I'd love a Days Gone Sequel.
Why this game never got a sequel or at least 1-2 DLCs/expansions is beyond me. So what they have made a “tech demo” 6-8 hours 3rd person over the shoulder shooter, I don’t mind that, sometimes I prefer those types of games. They have made this world that is interesting and they gave us bits and it’s only sad that they didn’t gave us more.
The concept was really cool of half breeds. I really liked how they made the lycans very efficient in design. It is not flashy at all it literally looks like a beast with the base of a man. The lack of flash was actually very cool. The aesthetic of the game helped some to make a more immersive experience IMO. Oh well haha.
Bloodborne - that came out the same year - could've teach this game some lessons, as it despite not having realistic graphics, it excells at gameplay and narrative
Bloodborne also has a similar setting: old victorian england, where you fighting werewolves (at least for the first half) This is why good gameplay is much more important than cinematic presentation. We want to play games, not interactive movie
I remember when this game came out was right around when i started watching Twitch & watching runners showcase it then, and was forever in awe at the graphics and the excitement around the idea that this would become a graphical standard in the pending future. 2022 and I still look at this game in awe having experienced games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk to say the least. I love when developers go overboard on minutia personally and hope that doesn't become a completely lost art as we continue to creep further in to gaming's future. Sidenote: i had a brain blast when Gvmers mentioned that one channel who broadcasted the game before it's release cause as someone who would stay up to date with all of the "pre release exclusive walkthrough's" (before review copy's were so common) I think I recall viewing that exact channel since i was so hyped about this game at the time. Regardless thank you Gvmers for your work and style of documentation always hit's me right in my G4TechTv heart.
The Order 1886 is one of my favorite games of all time. I spent more time walking around the world, taking in the atmosphere; than fighting and progressing.
It just felt like they wanted to make a movie more than they wanted to make a game. So much of the actual gameplay felt like an afterthought or begrudging (though not unpolished) inclusion. It's especially frustrating given the interesting setting and fantastic visuals. I would love for it to be explored again in the future, but with gameplay and engagement as a much stronger focus.
As someone with a fascination of firearms from the 1890s , this pseudo-historic setting would be so cool... To see their equivalents of pistols like the Mauser broomhandle/etc
haven't seen the video yet but i just want to put it out there that The Order has some of the most dynamic and fluid takedown animations, especially for its time.
Besides the recycled boss fights and that "wtf" ending I actually really liked this game. Great universe and lore with cool weapons and awesome names. Damn shame they cheaped out at the end. Its like they rushed it
The Order: 1886 is one of the most underrated game of its time. I played the game approximately 6 years after its release, knowing full well that it was generally viewed as a failure. To my surprise I actually had an amazing time with it. Even at the end of the PS4 generation the game looked fantastic. Even today, seeing this video, it looks better than some recent PS5 games. The story was also excellent. I was expecting the cliffhanger everyone was talking about the whole time. But then again, I was quite surprised that the game's story actually had a proper conclusion. Sure, it was open to a sequel, but there was nothing that would spoil the story experience for me. And don't even get me started about absolutely stunning environments. The game certainly isn't flawless, it's mostly lacking some of the quality of life improvements we are used to in games these days, I wished the environments were more open, but even so, the game is still great. Even today. If you haven't played it yet, I'd recommend you to do so.
That's probably why the game failed tbh. Just because you CAN make it look as good as a PS5 game on the PS4, doesn't mean you should. Because that heavily implies something had to be sacrificed, and in this game's case, that's length, GAMEPLAY, innovation, variety, etc. You spend 100% of your efforts on pretty graphics, you have nothing left to make this game into a game.
The Order: 1886 is still one of my favorites games on PS4, It's beautiful and fun and I still back to The Order from time to time. Maybe was short but the quality was the best, one of the perfect made games on PS4.
Did you play it? Because the game I played was pretty awesome. I believe this is one of the most never-played-it-but-hate-it games of all time. It is really good.
It was such an amazing premise and well-written world. Just imagine how much more we would have gotten in the final product if they hadn't wasted all that time and money to render an awkward, out-of-place nude scene.
I guess it's not impossible there might one day be a sequel (please, not a prequel!) to The Order 1886. This is one of my favourite PS4 games - the concept, the setting, the narrative all promised so much, and (for me least) the game itself didn't become truly exciting until its closing stages with certain revelations which could have had fantastic possibilties in newer settings in a further instalment. Alas. Hope lives eternal...
That was my problem. The QTE felt not like game mechanics but rather something put into a cut scene to look like a game play. The stealth was abomination with its binary state - you are seen you repeat the sequence. The mechanics like fighting Lycans were close to none, stand in one place roll when attacked enemy goes away rinse and repeat 3 to 4 hits to kill the enemy. Story was nice but it ended when others games would use the cliffhanger in the mid section of the game and continued. Played it but to me it was at best OK game and I bought it for 1/3 the price. And I have to say I play a lot of shorter games 3 to 5 hours long which I like way much more.
This game showed me what the ps4/x bone gen had in store regarding “””cinematic””” games and I knew I wanted nothing to do with it. What a waste of everyone’s time.
''Cinematic experiences'' are plague in video games industry. I want a game, not an interactive movie. Unless it's like with Telltale type of games that are an evolution of point and click.
I absolutely loved this game, the amount of detail the artist put into everything was insane this is the game that pushed me to become a material artist for games and arch viz, while I'm sad the game did not catch much success I am so grateful I got to play and look at all beautiful work the team did. There are legit points in the game where it goes from cinematic to gameplay and i sat there for 5 mins thinking the cinematic was still going. If you can I highly suggest giving this game a try.
Oh how I would love a sequel. The story was the game’s main strength and in a game with more gameplay variety and perhaps a more expansive playground, it could invite a new classic.
Quite possibly the most incredible-looking game I've ever seen. Even now, 7 years later, nothing quite compares. All the more disappointing how the rest of the game turned out. The first big red flag was the announcement that The Order 1886, which was by all accounts looking to be Sony's steampunk Gears of War, wouldn't have a co-op mode. For all the talk about the underwhelming gameplay, nobody mentions how garbage the script is. The setting and the lore are admittedly fantastic, and I wish we would've gotten anything else, even a tie-in comic book, that would explore it further. But the actual script is riddled with holes and completely falls apart in the second half, where it's nothing but platitudes, contrivances and stupid misunderstandings. The abrupt, unsatisfying sequel bait ending that doesn't really resolve anything is just a cherry on top of the shit sundae. What a shame.
It is impossible to satisfy the gamers.... "The games too long/too short/looks ugly/looks too pretty/etc!!!" What is wrong with a short but beautiful game? I for one really appreciate it. The only reason I didn't complete The Order 1886 is because I can't aim for the life of me on console. This game should have been praised for what it was and not ridiculed as a mere tech demo.
I absolutely loved this game. I can underhand peoples issues with it but I really enjoyed it. The graphics are still unbelievably impressive. I wish it got a sequel, it’s such a shame, I feel like it has enormous potential.
I was one of the people who was interested at the atmosphere and look when the first main trailer dropped. But then never got around to purchase or play. It wasn’t until long after I traded an older brother The Order for my copy of Evil Within. I sat and enjoyed the game over a period of 3-4 days. I was not aware of the reviews or problems, so I found it entertaining and I really loved the story and world building they did hear. It was creative and the graphics of the time were amazing.
Of course nowadays we have things like the Dark Pictures Anthology which have somehow made the whole 'quality graphics, lack of depth' thing acceptable again. The order arguably had much more engaging gameplay.
I just finished 1886 a few weeks ago and I was absolutely stunned by the presentation. I don't understand why ppl hate on this game so much. It was mechanically competent, technically insane, had a good enough story with movie quality presentation and animations and kept me playing for at least 8 hours. It's not as short as the reviews made it seem. This game didn't deserve to be shit on by ppl who most likely didn't even play it. I feel bad for the studio, they had something great here.
This game, is what brought me back to my roots in console gaming, I loved it, I didn’t care about the length of the game. I was so invested into the world of this IP, the moment you realize Vampires are being shipped, blew my mind at the time. I wanted and still do want a sequel to this amazing IP. Definitely gets a 70-80 in my eyes.
This was my first ps4 game I played I remembered loving this when this came out. Loved the style and weapons, always revisit this game and tell me it’s not good.
This is actually one of my favorite exclusives on the Playstation. The setting, lore, characters, enemy variants. Each of these themes could have been improved if they developed a sequel. It's a damn shame.
Really wish they would go back and explore this IP again. The Order had a really great premise and world; steampunk Knights of The Round Table with Nikola Tesla as their quatermaster.

Ryse and 1886 are two of the best looking games I’ve ever seen on console despite being the first games on their consoles and even now I can only thing of a few games that come close. Truly beautiful games that both had interesting stories and fun mechanics until those mechanics became repetitive.
Facts
Ryse was way better and is super underrated.
I’m 3/4’s through the game now and find myself enthralled by the world. I want to get my hands on design documents and script drafts so badly

It would've fare much better as a CGI movie.
This game really proved that age old argument of "graphics isn’t as important as the gameplay".

I loved this story and visual style so much. The ending setup a sequel I wanted hard
I actually really enjoyed this game, and I wish they would have kept going with the IP. I loved the world, and i found it fascinating.
For me it was the 24 FPS meme that killed the game, I would very much like a 10h campaign experience if it's good. As a full time worker these days, I'd like a higher quality experience in less time rather than a repetitive grind that I have no time for.
I really wanted to explore the world, the setting would have been awsome if it was more open
I really wish they would have made it hub based like Deus Human Revolution, Mass Effect 2.
Games are not movies, it really baffles me how directors still try to inject that same old trope into games

Make The Order: 1887, make it a 15hr solo or coop campaign, just like this and It'll sell so well in todays climate.
But its sony we're talking about here.

The game was gorgeous to look at, but not much of a game. They needed to put much more dev time into the gameplay.
For all their talk and effort at polishing the visual and cinematic look of this game, it had the most drab look to it.
and what a tragedy it was....It had one of the most immersive environments I've played. I hope one day they can revisit this.
Really sad this wasn’t taken too seriously and was more of a tech demo than an actual game
That's developer's fault for making its mechanics so shit, it's just a generic fps bloated with qtes.
Wym tech demo ?
The price was the only problem. Now that you can get it for 19.99 or cheaper is a steal.
This studio needed another chance. Best game technologically.
Breaks my heart that games like Knack got a sequel and The Order didn't. 😔
Knack had Mark Cerny creating it to see what the PlayStation 4 was capable of as well as its sequel
They were so busy making the visuals and the setting that they forgot to make the rest of the game actually good.
haven't seen the video yet but i just want to put it out there that The Order has some of the most dynamic and fluid takedown animations, especially for its time.
Besides the recycled boss fights and that "wtf" ending I actually really liked this game. Great universe and lore with cool weapons and awesome names. Damn shame they cheaped out at the end. Its like they rushed it
It was probably rushed. They likely needed a few more years to make the game they really wanted to make.
@@dorsia6938 it's a shame. It really deserved a some love.
Crazy how this game looks like a PS5 game visually.
Crazy how seven years later there still isn't a better looking title even on the PS5.
The Order: 1886 is still one of my favorites games on PS4, It's beautiful and fun and I still back to The Order from time to time. Maybe was short but the quality was the best, one of the perfect made games on PS4.
This game was a glorified tech demo with a price tag, too bad, it really had potential.
Sony: Bro, check out THESE graphics! It's like a movie, dude!
Players: How's the gameplay?
Sony: The what, now?
(Not about the game) The narrator of these videos speak so well I always learn new words and utilizable sentences everytime I watch.
This game showed me what the ps4/x bone gen had in store regarding “””cinematic””” games and I knew I wanted nothing to do with it. What a waste of everyone’s time.
Ryse Son of Rome needs a history video here.
''Cinematic experiences'' are plague in video games industry.
I want a game, not an interactive movie. Unless it's like with Telltale type of games that are an evolution of point and click.
A campaign of less than 10 hours for an average player is problematic? Hasn't the standard been around 8 hours, for a long time?
Couldn’t have said it better
This was never a game, it was only ever an extended tech demo unfortunately.
more like an interactive movie
This is one of the only games that had a unique utilization of the PS4's touch pad. And that's just a bit of a shame.
11:37 that's the most unfair insults to CoD4 I have ever heard of, to compare it to 1886~~
Of course nowadays we have things like the Dark Pictures Anthology which have somehow made the whole 'quality graphics, lack of depth' thing acceptable again.
It's because everything has to be open world and have some multiplayer built in. The game was fine. Nothing wrong with a good linear experience.
This game reminded me alot of Resistance: Fall of Man. I absolutely loved the Steampunk/ alternate historic reimagining setting
This is actually one of my favorite exclusives on the Playstation. The setting, lore, characters, enemy variants. Each of these themes could have been improved if they developed a sequel. It's a damn shame.
Fucking bot
