I had to scroll way too far to find this comment. Lack of day one leaderboard successfully convinced me to never buy another game from DICE ever again. Glad I didn't buy this POS.
DICE expended their last bit of good will of the fans with this game. Battlefield V basically ended the franchise for me but that 2042 trailer showing the RendeZook made me believe they were returning to form. What a slap in the face.
And yet it's kinda nuts that there will _still_ be those not-too-bright kids that will queue to preorder the next one on the back of paid-for hype recommendations by the ball licking EA Creator Network shill machine 🤦
I couldn't play BF5 at the launch, but after a couple of years I tried it with friends and after a few rounds I understood the game mechanics and enjoy it. I felt the work of fixing like BF4. It's a different experience, but it's BF. But in 2042 everything is bad.
Rendezook?? I visibly cringed when I saw that in the trailer. And I'm not even a BF2 veteran; I got into BF3 on console. Can't even imagine how the earlier vets who are probably over the franchise's trend chasing handled seeing a pre-rendered cinematic featuring some bullshit a forgotten Russian player did exactly once in BF3 about thirteen to fifteen years ago.
@KingKimwer , I wouldn't know. I refused to buy either one of them. I took their advice. I still have 2142 in my library. That game was amazing. Once they announced 2042 instead of an updated 2142, I was out.

So pumped for a WW2 version of BF1 when the BFV reveal dropped. It's actually awe-inspiring how much DICE- not EA, but DICE- fucked up the marketing, and subsequently the future of, what should have been a legendary title. It's never been the same since imo.
I stuck to my guns and didn't play this until recently. I gave it a chance and yeah it can be fun, but you're constantly reminded of how it can be better. I don't think it can escape that shadow.
Same. I played it on EA Play just to test, it was fun for like 2 hours, but I ended up coming back to Battlebit. Better community (tbh 2042 barely has any), better game, better devs.
I mean the problem is that 2042 can't really be improved that much because it is fundamentally a shallow hero shooter at its core and changes that'd say make large maps + 128 players way better can't be added in like far larger squad sizes (I mean 4 man squads *barely* work on 64 players, on 128? Awful). This game was made and designed as a run and gun hero shooter because of Apex, CoD at the time and probably some leads seeing Vanguard going to be WW2 in late 2019/early 2022 thinking they could withstand any revolting BF fans against Specialists with CoD fans lining up to buy BF like they did with BF3 and BF1, both titles going in a direction that a lot of long time fans at both of those mentioned releases did (being the more simplistic titles in the franchise).
@@Dangerman-zg3ui I can't imagine playing with 128 people. I main Falck so I find it frustrating that 2042 does a horrible job at organically creating Frontlines. I spend most of my time running around trying to get into the action but it feels more like running from skirmish to skirmish. No one communicates; I'll have squad members just passing by me while I'm downed like I didn't revive them minutes ago. 2042 suffers because it's trying to be a hero shooter but also trying to be Battlefield. I wish they made up their minds instead of chasing trends and shitty communities.
@@LoneWanderer905 it's easy to get into but you run into a plateau. I mean it's hard to engage with the game because it's like why the fuck are we all fighting? There's no real incentive to work together, just me VS everyone with a bunch of others who may as well be NPCs.

The setting of this game was so cool that I am beyond pissed how badly it was pissed away in lack of campaign. This could've been a really interesting take on apocalyptic horror, but no... it is all 'specialists', emotes and oneliners.
Again for me, they just wanted to invoke Battlefield 2142 (and you can see some of the ideas for that world being laid out here with the weather events and stuff going on in the "lore" in the game) without actually making a prequel in any way to 2142.
The cinematic ad for the game had me so hyped. I wanted to see why these two friends were estranged, what happened to the world? Instead they pulled a Halo 5 bait and switch to trick customers with a false narrative. Except here it was NO NARRATIVE.
I, as a BF-veteran - playing since BF42 - was kinda shocked to see how ridiculous the movement speed of the troops was, even making vehicles kinda.. useless? Hope they wont keep it like that in the future. It feels like CoD with vehicles as a gimmick. 😕
Bf 1942, bf2, 2142 and then bf3 and 4. The movement speed always increased a bit but was reasonnable, and justified the tactical use of vehicules to move around the map, especially in empty space between points. Now, moving in squads in a vehicle serves no purpose other than being a more appealing target to the enemy which will score more points. The map has more features to hide in/near (which is great) but the vehicles are not practical or powerfull enough to justify using them tactically and trying not to lose them... It's CoD with some vehicles, not BF anymore (maybe since BF1 or 5 even...)
The way Battlefield 2042 went from being so insanely hyped from the second that first trailer dropped to its absolute FAILURE of a launch is honestly just sad
I don't know how up to date the game is at the point of making this video but there is nothing coming that could change what Battlefield 2042 is, it's over.
EA is the Disney equivalent of the gaming industry, destroying beloved franchises just to follow the latest trends, loosing a bunch of money while they do and learning nothing from it
Battelfront 2, Battlefield 5, Star Wars: Squadrons, Battlefield 2042, Battlefront Classic Collection... those are just a few of their mainline games. Dont forget they also regurgitate Madden, MLB, NHL and Fifa every year... 🤦♂️ Star Wars and Battlefield deserve a new parent company with how theyve been treated recently. Its like watching a parent slap their kid in public for wanting candy and giving them vegatables instead.
The worst thing to happen to BF was for Dice to merge with EA. Dice/EA are now purely profit driven. They aren't passionate about the BF franchise any longer - and we can feel it
And mind numbingly injecting PC culture into their player base. Even if 2042 started to become a real good game, I'm not touching it. Back in 2021, it really felt like they really cracked the whip on us. That was just insane. 😧
We have the power to dismantle that, just dont buy any more of their games. Thats how you win in capitalism. You stop giving the big corpos money. Theres no such thing as a monopoly without the consumers.
No scoreboard, no server browser, no classes. overpowered transport vehicles, almost no weapons, 2 lmgs, no map destruction at all, empty and boring maps making it a running simulator. amazing how this franchise went down the drain hard after bf4
I got this dumb idea for the BF devs to make monkey without re buildings a new game from the ground up. Just make new content for BF5. The game was getting there with the Pacific Theatre content then the devs dropped it. RB6 was declining a few years after launch but the devs pushed throgh and in the 2nd season the player count started going up.
Fancy seeing you here! Personally I hated the concept of BF5. If they were to do that I'd say focus on BF1, since it has a more solid foundation. That being said, I think the better option is to take a hard solid look at BattleBit, understand why it's so popular right now, and create a free-to-play game with simpler graphics, minimal cosmetic microtransactions, and use it as a reset of the franchise, using the cosmetics to fund development, and making it free-to-play to encourage people to take a look. When I think about Battlefield, I think about the old games, not the new ones. There's a reason for it, and BattleBit hit the nail square on the head.
Got BFV during recent sale, I dig it for its crouch run which was utilize in the Pacific update with environments that gives tactical advantages notably Wake Island.

For those wondering, CoD did "Specialists" back in blops 4 2018 and there players hated that system (lot of battlefield players played cod during that time, even bf devs played cod like DRUNKKZ3). So basically bf devs stole a system everyone hated in the other game just to put it in battlefield, like if they were disconnected from reality.
2042 was something no one asked for. It's genuinely weird. No one ever thought they needed to do away with the class system. One of the staples of the series. Plus instead of faceless soldiers we got unwanted Siege ripoff characters. I genuinely think the best option would be to remake Bad Company 1/2 and/or BF3. I remember EA saying when BF4 mid development. That after the next entry ( Turned out to be Hardline) We would see Bad Company 3 finally. I see that was a lie.
Quite a few of the team from Dice that left went on to create Embark Studios, the studio making The Finals which while being a different genre at least brings back the impressive level of destruction with a competitive twist on it. BF 2042 still has quite a large player-base and good amount of updates coming each season and while I still think it's a fun game it still doesn't live up to any of the past BF games.
All the crew who made Battlefield up to Battlefield 3 are long gone and everyone at the dev studio now have to relearn what the people before them did so well, which is just baffling and perhaps impossible but I wish them well
With the issues of BF5, I was excited that BF6 will be amazing because they would have learned their lessons. Little did I know at the time that BF1 would be 'the last' BF game. I hope the glory days of BF3 will come back, but seeing how things have been going with the franchise for years now I seriously doubt those days will ever return. Such a shame.
I’ve been playing battlefield since BF1942 and I enjoyed some bits of BF5. Mostly the entrenching system. I know it slowed down map development but I also didn’t play BF5 until it was already fully developed and all DLC was free. Honestly, I would’ve been happy with an updated and overhauled BF2142.
Battle bit Remastered is the response from the community on the direction BF has gone. If they don’t see that and change with their direction, BF is truly gone.

A lot of the Battlefield players are migrating to Renegade X. Which is a good thing, because Renegade X is about to have a big expansion called Firestorm, is gonna bring back the iconic Titan Mode from BF2142 but with a new spin on it.
Their development model was 100% at it's absolute peak with BF Bad Company 2. BF3 is a close second. Games with that feel cease to exist today, and it's truly sad for those of us that experienced them, and became accustomed to that being the norm. BF4 was a WRECK at launch, and turned a lot of the older players off from the game due to the building physics not being destructible. Building destruction was paramount in those games. It's what made them distinct. I used to launch grenades into the ground to create a "foxhole" for cover in Bad Company 2... Every building that collapsed on it's foundation changed the dynamics of each match. BF1 almost recaptured it, but it wasn't the same (Just like BF4). The destruction in BF3 and Bad Company 2 is still unrivaled in the military FPS space. No, there wasn't "levelation" like in BF4, but EVERY building could be destroyed down to rubble in Bad Company 2, and most buildings could be significantly altered in BF3. When that happened, the battlefield changed as a whole. Places that used to be cover, were now danger areas, etc... THAT was what battlefield was. BFV, I never played, because I'm in my late 30s, and the vast majority of military shooters when I was younger, took place in WWII when I was in my teens and early 20s. It was either Halo, or a WWII game. I've had my fill of those for a lifetime. BF1 was cool for a while, but then again, shooting WWI era weapons (with a lot of copium upgrades that soldiers didn't actually have, gets stale fast). BF is a shell of the greatness it once captured. Thanks EA, you morons. Let developers do their thing, and just publish the IP and reap the rewards of being the publisher. Greed, greed greed. Hate the current landscape of Triple A titles because of this.
EA and Dice: Spend billions of dollars. Fail in every aspect. Didn't accomplish much better after a year. 3 random indie devs: FINE! We'll do it ourselves!
I've made a video on the downfall of the franchise as a whole, and how that lead to Battlebit. Battlefield literally started showing HUGE red flags in BF4. It went downhill from there...
Great video that sums up the absolute mess of development that is BF2042. 3+ years down the drain. Reason why chasing trends recently just ends in disaster because either you have to rush out a game that bombs Vs the established competitition or you're years out of date.
Very nicely put. Thanks (Plus, I loved Battlefield for what it was, and because they didn't chase trends, they were their own thing that no one succeed to succesfully copy, until MAG, WWIII and some other lower budget with passion tried to. They came close but I'm not sure they really succeeded)
The lack of a campaign really killed it imo. Without a story, I felt no attachment to the world I was playing in. With no attachment, I didn't care what happened. And when I didn't care, I got bored and got off the game. Dice's fatal flaw was catering to the people who played never played a BF game before 5 instead of listening to the veterans who have been around since the PS2 days.

Never buy games on launch day. Let the reviews come out from trusted sources and then make an informed purchase. Pre-ordering and buying on launch day without first looking is what makes it possible for companies to release complete trash games like this POS. This game in particular is one that couldnt justify a day one purchase: The beta showed everyone how bad the games state was and not only in the sense that it was unfinished - also in what it tried to do at its core. It was obvious that this wasnt a true BF game but a failed attempt at pleasing some hero shooter audience, there was a shit ton of discussion about it everywhere even before launch.

I would have thought battlefield 2042s crash and burn was funny, if not for the fact that it took bf2 and bf5 with it. Both of which were speadily getting better, especially bf2.
Nothing tragic about someone insisting to perform suicide pulling the trigger, deapite of all the warnings from everybody else. We told DICE that 2042 will be bad from day one, but they refused to listen. Seeing them crash and burn is not tragic at all.
When they added classes, it pissed me off because the freedom to choose who you play was gone. This is why the customization system in BF5 was better. It makes no sense to get rid of it. They wanted to copy COD (in that game you can play whatever Operator you want. The only limitation is who is on what faction) and suffered for it. They should’ve at least doubled the Specialist and made them locked to a faction like COD. It didn’t make sense for everyone to be shooting at basically clones. Like, at least make it make sense with a story. The core of the game is fun. But it was mired in so much BS that it suffered. At least BF5 is still active.
I enjoy it, I also love the AI and solo play. The problem I can't stand is that it's online only, even with solo play. We always want to go back and play older BF games but it's not the same because people aren't online anymore. That's why I loved the AI play, because years later I'd want to play this game again. But noooooo. They had to make it online only.
I play this game on daily basis and do give credit to the DEVs for improving the game on so many levels. But, I'll never forget the amount of disappointment I felt on release. One of the most painful moments as a loyal Battlefield fan. 😢

2042 is actually pretty good now: it's the closest the series has been to replicating Bad Company 2 in over a decade. Problem is, the game seems dead: I had about a month where I could easily get into a game (around the time when they put it on playstation plus) and then nothing. Minutes at the matchmaking screen and can't join any lobby. This is what happens when your launch is terrible: you may never recover no matter how much you work at it.
Dice getting rid of the Class system that was integral to how previous Battlefield titles worked was bad enough, but the fact they replaced them with 'specialists' purely out of wanting to copy Battle Royale when there are ALREADY iconic, individual characters in the Bad Company series that has been left abandoned for almost 15 years is almost criminal.

DICE expended their last bit of good will of the fans with this game. Battlefield V basically ended the franchise for me but that 2042 trailer showing the RendeZook made me believe they were returning to form. What a slap in the face.

Rendezook?? I visibly cringed when I saw that in the trailer. And I'm not even a BF2 veteran; I got into BF3 on console.
No one communicates; I'll have squad members just passing by me while I'm downed like I didn't revive them minutes ago.

The setting of this game was so cool that I am beyond pissed how badly it was pissed away in lack of campaign. This could've been a really interesting take on apocalyptic horror, but no... it is all 'specialists', emotes and oneliners.
Exactly! How did they not play on that theme more??? Such wasted potential.
Yea. It had a cool background story.
they killed a character for nothing
Yes. I don't often hear people mention that. The players move cartoonishly fast and that dumb sliding mechanic belongs in CoD, not Battlefield.
In my opinion was BF4 movement perfect. It was natural and no bullshit like sliding.

I genuinely think the best option would be to remake Bad Company 1/2 and/or BF3. I remember EA saying when BF4 mid development. That after the next entry ( Turned out to be Hardline) We would see Bad Company 3 finally. I see that was a lie.
