The "bin thing" is just the battery cover sitting on the back seat and not a storage device. The door opens courtesy of the torsion bar and gas strut, not just the gas strut. Re the heater controls "All seems to work on this one but I bet a lot of them don't". A disappointing and quite a negative and ill-informed "user guide". The glove box is actually quite deep (approx. 130mm, 5.5"). A torch is only needed to find the bonnet opener by those unfamiliar with the car. I just reach in and grab it. I doubt that anyone would cut a fuel flap in the bonnet. Only very early cars had fuel flaps. The clutch reservoir is indeed next to the fuel filler as is an overflow pipe. There is no power steering.

So the fuel filler door is actually a feature of the early cars and they went away on the later cars
