      Why is it hard to believe? That's kinda what a good shed does. That's why "barn find" is such a hot thing.
      In order of worseness, worstest to not that worst, being out in the elements...
      UV from the sun
      Acid rain
      Very cold
      Very hot
      About the worst thing for a barn... actually makes being in a barn, ironically also potentially the worst way to store something.
      Rodents. Because they coincidentally simulate everything bad about the elements. Acid urine, eating wires, and holes in things, messing up plastic.

    Hey Alex. Super fine job you're doing. On the decals, try using soapy water in a spray bottle.
    Spray the panel, apply decal and squeegee out the excess water along with the air bubbles. You need to keep the paper on until you finish the squeegee process. Then remove it. Decal will stay in place.
    When you do it this way, it's easier to manipulate the decal to where you want it.
    Cheers.

      Those stainless cars are very rare and they look cool, but you know what is even more rare? I worked at a dealer that sold DeLorean, there was a dealer option in the 3rd and 4th years of them where for about an extra $5000 they would color coat them in 3 "approoved" colors. Red, maroon, and black. Very few customers opted for this treatment but there are a few.

    • @richarda3659
      @richarda3659 10 місяців тому +1

      But historically, it's not really a DeLorean unless it's stainless steel - that was kind of the car's hallmark signature trait.

    BTW for the fuel distributor, do NOT separate the halves. It's not necessary, and it's incredibly difficult to reseal it properly without the alignment tools. There is an O ring you're going to want to check, and is a wicked PITA to reinstall without damaging it. Clean out the injectors for sure. I can send you pictures from the manual and Bosch mechanical fuel injection manual if needed. Going to want to make sure you check the valley, underneath the intake, for coolant and deterioration.

    Alex I think you have single-handedly re-invigorated interest back in the DeLorean DMC-12! Your passion for the restoration is unbounded and infective. What an experience this must has been from barn find to where it is now in a month or so. It was nice to see Mike and Co from Midwest DeLorean helping you so much, as well as the other businesses you spoke about. It makes me want to try and find a DeLorean where I live in Australia, but sadly this car was never sold here. Only a handful of personal imports exist and are unobtanium. I think it was around 2004, when I saw my first DeLorean close up at a small weekend car show in Chippewa Falls in the US. Actually it ended up there were 2 cars at the same event. I still remember the experience. Anyway cannot wait to see the next exciting chapter. Enjoy mate.

    Hey LSC, re: heatgun restore of plastics. I have found that if you apply the armor all plastic trim restore/conditioner first, you end up with an even better result. (I think it has something to do with locking in the chemicals that keep the plastics from drying up), this has been my go-to for old plastics for AGES, and it works great. The oldest piece I have around was restored this way 20 years ago, has never seen a garage, and still looks brand new after 20 years of weather. Give it a try sometime on a spare piece, you won't be disappointed! (note: I only ever use a heat gun.)

    Just a word of advice for future decals I would've done it the same way you did before I worked at a sign/wrap and decal shop including striping police cars. The easiest way to go about lining up stripes by just taping the decal to the car in a few inch spots along the top of each decal to line the decal is positioned exactly where you want it WITH THE BACKING STILL ON. Then once you go and get them lined up you can run a line of masking tape along the whole length of the decal. Then peel your backing as much as you want to work with working there edge just in case you need to fix a bubble/ wrinkle. you almost always will get a small bubble but a small pop with an exacto knife and a day in the sun you'll be set! you can use this method with any decal.

    I hope some of these hints help. Honestly sometimes it’s sad how little people share with each other, while other times you find people who will share everything with you freely.
    I’ve been extremely lucky and was able to learn from some serious world class mechanics. My father being one, who was a level 5 black engineer for Boeing (that means he had top secret clearance and worked on military projects. It’s the highest engineering level and security clearance that exists).
    So in the same fashion that it was shared with me, I hope that some of these pieces of advice really help you greatly over the years as each one of them are basically trade secrets. While I know thousands of such tips, these were just the ones I saw on your video. But I really enjoy watching your clips. I really like that you do all the work yourself, as do I.
    But honestly, if you were ever looking for a second engineer, I might be highly interested. I was an aviation engineer for Boeing, but for the last 7 years since my father passed and I drastically changed my life I’ve been traveling and working abroad. I’m always looking for the next adventure. 😜

As a 48 year old man who saw all three Back to the Future films on their first release, had Matchbox DeLorean's and plaid Back to the Future with them for hours as a kid, & even had a ride in a DeLorean when I was 15 (at the local observatory to boot - & before they became nostalgia icons - but for me even at 15, it was something I'll never forget) - all the nostalgia feels here! Really can't tell you how great this series has been! Thanks so much! I love how much you appreciate this car even though you are the "next generation" of BTTF fan - and also how much you appreciate the oddball history of DeLorean. Alex incredible job working your way through the systems! I’m pretty sure with CIS you need to put the air box back over the air plate so it moves based on actual controlled induction air movement. Also before you make adjustments to fuel mixture with the “hidden allen” make sure there are zero vacuum leaks or unmetered air and you have the right control pressures. Knowing you this thing will be running mint in no time! Then you can get to the LS or Tesla swap we’re all really waiting for!👍🏻

    I've watched all the other videos about this car and looking at the end result seems like you just cleaned the interior and exterior. It's crazy how much effort goes into all the litte details that no one sees like cleaning under all the coversand carpets and removing little bits of rust and all. That's something only a true car lover would do and i admire that!

    👏👏👏👏Alex, you are simply the master of attention to detail. We absolutely loved this series and how much time you put into it. My family loves the longer style “feature length” videos you make. I’d watch two hour videos from you regularly. I ALWAYS watch the whole video. I wouldn’t even start a video I wasn’t going to finish. I cannot wait to see the mechanical aspects of this restoration. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us.

    You excitement is so contagious. After watching your video I went out and used a clay bar mitt on my car. I bought the mitt a few weeks ago but lacked the enthusiasm to actually try it, but I wanted a shiny car too. Those mitts work really well by the way. I even washed and waxed it, and blacked the wheels 😂 Thanks for another great video Alex, much appreciated 👍

    Such a beautiful resto....its fascinating seeing it come together and delving so deeply into its guts as you go.....has to be the most in depth resto vid on you tube. amazing work and sure there must be some stresses but you're clearly having the time of your life doing it! only thing to me personally look odd are thse side decals, its such a pure piece of design those detract IMO and also cover up some of the glorious stainless.....but they do have a cool factor I guess.

    Holy crap! This care came out so beautiful! What a grand and detailed job you did on this one. What is the value of a restored delorean? I guess it is quite high since you bought it for a pretty high price and that is no wonder for these kinda cars. Loved the whole series on this car. Just imagine electrifying this...now THAT is back to the future.

    What an incredible restoration. Kudos to you for addressing every detail and bringing this gem back from the dead. Super impressive!
    It's an OCD thing for me but if there's one thing I'd change, it would be to color match (as close as if feasible) the front & rear bumpers to the stainless. I have no doubt you brought it back to factory spec, but color matching that paint is a better aesthetic FOR ME. I know folks will flame me for that take - I get that authenticity rules in a resto project. Just my personal opinion.
    Fantastic vid as usual!

      @richarda3659 10 місяців тому +2

      Oops, I already posted the exact same comment before finding yours. I saw a lot of them when new, and it was clearly the designer's intent to have the car be all the same color. The bumpers matched the stainless steel quite well at certain angles, to where, from a distance, you might think the car was 100% stainless steel. These are nice but way too dark.
