In the 80s my dad worked at a tow yard. As a little kid i would go through all the smashed cars and i found this tape in one car. Been a fan ever since. True story
I remember hearing this song on the radio multiple times when it was Back Tracks to the 1980s. However, I remember listening to: Don't Dream It's Over many, many times. Now that I watched Something So Strong (I think I might have seen it 3 or 4 times in my life) I bought the record in 2014 but the record had a small crack in it. I took it back to the Record Store and the man at the front gave me a 2nd copy and he threw in Split Enz.
The same guy who throws a paper airplane (which everybody is so amazed by) dances with some piece of clothing. Then there's a forklift that lifts up the drummer and his drumset. Kisses the guy with this hand over his mouth after getting soak and wet and gives him a hug. Then the video ends. Who designed the music video this way?
Yes, the 80's has all the best bands, EVER hands down. These junk music today is straight BFI ,killing, trap music, Can it come back to the 80's .I went to Bellaire Sr. High, these your my days, Now I'm 55 just yesterday I heard this song wow it brought me way back to my teen years my daughter said daddy what is that good music and who sing it.Yessssss
Lived in New York City 82-89. An aspiring novelist and wanna-be Letterman staff writer, lost, bopping about in a dazed but resolute way, implacable, crazy jobs and crazier girlfriends, rudderless. One paramour lived on the Upper West Side at 75th St off of Columbus, in the same building as Fritz Weaver who spoke to me twice in the elevator, and I would walk over there from my hellhole at 50th and Second, snake through the hot streets on to Central Park and Sheeps Meadow which was Nirvanna. And one lonely spring Thursday in late morning, I began my trek cross town, aimless and self conscious and living in my head, but forever plowing on, forcing the journey one foot in front of the other, Confucious style. And my song of the moment was Something So Strong, which I'd heard for the first time the week before on the sound system at the Hog's Breath Inn, a bar in Carmel, CA where my father had taken me for dinner when I was visiting him, and where I'd met Clint Eastwood, who owned the place. And I perked up when I heard the song, liked the chords and the progression and the soft melancholy vocals. And I kind of logged it away, the way you do with songs. Cut to Sheep's Meadow and walking across the newly mowed grass, and there in the middle of the vast breadth of lawn, were four guys playing instruments, two guitarists, keyboard player, and a drummer with his full kit. And recording this acoustic happening, a little cherubic fellow in jeans with the kind of large boxy video recorder they had back then -this was probably 1987. And I walked up to them, just me in this vast expanse, and I stood there -an audience of one- as they finished tuning their instruments, and launched into a song. That song. The one from the Hog's Breath, Something So Strong. It sounded oddly similar to the radio version and then it dawned on me that these were the original performers because I recognized the singer. Strangely, the key board guy was just miming playing, but everyone else was banging away and the singer was belting it out and despite its garage band spin it sounded nice. They finished and I applauded. Just me and a little private concert. And they smiled politely, and looked around a little wistfully; I got the impression they'd figured on more of an impromptu audience. And then they packed up and I pressed on. And that was that. Later that night I saw them on Letterman's Show. And sure enough they worked the remote footage from the park into the live performance. Whenever I hear this song, I'm transported instantly, in the pulse of a dendrite, to the The Hogg's Breath and my father then NYC and Sheeps Meadow and Crowded House all alone in Sheep's Meadow.
Also I think its this one that Paul McCartney pulled over on the motorway and asked the radio station to play again? Also may have inspired his quote that if you listen one chord contains the song.
Aww, this is so adorable. Paul Hester on the drums was so cute, so full of life, yet I just read that he died in 2005 at the age of 46. How sad! Neil Finn is also very handsome in this video, as is his brother, Jim Finn. What a great upbeat song! The setting is the old barn, the laundry on the line is being played with, the girls are adoring the boys playing the music and the whole thing is a feel good happy time. I love this!
Paul Hester was starting a solo career shortly before his death (suicide by hanging). 2 of his songs are on UA-cam. Happyland and Pain. Personally I like Happyland better. It's slow but a great song

waynegrovs43 Yeah, I know. He may have had bipolar with the "highs" (mania) and extreme lows (depression). From the sounds of it in the book Something So Strong by Chris Bourke he had extreme mood swings for years. Medication and therapy can only do so much unfortunately. The medication helps take the edge off a little and balances the chemical balance, but depression and other mental illnesses are REALLY hard to live with. I have the part of my brain that controls mood missing (had to be removed since a tumour in there was causing incessant seizures) so it makes it really difficult to control my emotions and I go through major mood swings as well, despite medication and therapy. So while I wish he had seeked further help and hadn't have committed suicide, I also understand too why he did it. I get thoughts like that too at times. It's a horrible thing to live with.

This is my favorite song and video of theirs, especially the "Smoke on the Water",riff in the beginning. Reminds me of my older brothers as teenagers...
I'm 26 and my parents got me into Crowded House. I really started listening more in my late teens and to this day they're my favorite band. Every song on this best of album is a banger. There were plenty of other artists they love, but something about Crowded House is special.
I always liked these guys, and the singer has a great voice. Love the song, too. I just heard this song on the radio where I live. It brought back memories. What ever happened to them? Where are you Crowded House? Love the name of their band, too.
Love this song..working on learning it...it us a pleasere to see a band that genuinely looks like they genuinely love and respect each other..and it comes out in their music
I named my youngest son Neil, partly after Neil Finn, partly after Neil Patrick Harris, partly after Neil Armstrong. So many good Neils, really. My Neil is really sweet and cute, too.
If I owned a radio station I would definitely play this song, I didn’t even grow up in the 1980’s but there music is great so is the 70’s and 90’s and the 60’s has some good music, but nowadays some stuff is okay, but most is relatively poor quality, but it also really depends on where you look for music.
You got now what I always wanted in my youth: internet music. So I can listen whatever I want... anytime ! Itunes is great for example. Or have fun with internet radio stations. Something so strong 👍🏼
the album cover at the end simply lovely however kind of sad that Paul Hester now has those Wings of a Angel as we all know he,s been gone for many years as Depression took a hold of his life and was going through it all and may he be remembered for life RIP Paul Hester aka Hessie 1959-2005 you will always be our original Crowded House Drummer to our Hearts that cover really touches most of our hearts now days since 2005 that is :(

Amazing band, incredible songs & musicians.
RIP Hessie, we miss you ❤️❤️🌹
Nice to see the guys young, happy and Paul still there.
Happy birthday to Paul Hester (drummer). Today would have been his 56th birthday.
Damn, we were happy in the 80's...love hearing all these songs :)

God I know we had so much fun,Idk what's happened
Definitely.... Life was easier , when our parents had to take care of us.
This is my favorite song and video of theirs, especially the "Smoke on the Water",riff in the beginning. Reminds me of my older brothers as teenagers...
Great timeless tune!!
I'm 26 and my parents got me into Crowded House. I really started listening more in my late teens and to this day they're my favorite band. Every song on this best of album is a banger. There were plenty of other artists they love, but something about Crowded House is special.
June 27, '87... Shannon's... 😉
Happy 58th birthday tomorrow, Liz 🌼. At this pace, you might even reach 60 before me!
Live long, dear.
Wow
Best bday wish ever.
We Will be 60, writing e-mails to each other.
You'll see!!!!

A great Kiwi Classic ~ an awesome track
I always liked these guys, and the singer has a great voice. Love the song, too. I just heard this song on the radio where I live. It brought back memories. What ever happened to them? Where are you Crowded House? Love the name of their band, too.
This song came out in the summer of 87' when there was plenty of fun unlike today.
lol also aids to balance out fun
Well, sorry to hear you ain't having fun anymore. Probably age didn't get you covered.
I was born in the wrong era if we talking about😒 some so strong🙈🤭

Love this song..working on learning it...it us a pleasere to see a band that genuinely looks like they genuinely love and respect each other..and it comes out in their music
Love Crowded House but Neil Finn had that special energy that is so uplifting - that honest cute little face!!!!!!!
A sweet yet handsome face...
I which you he is cute back then but now no
Just a Person, now no? I disagree. He's ALWAYS been cute. Still is.
I named my youngest son Neil, partly after Neil Finn, partly after Neil Patrick Harris, partly after Neil Armstrong. So many good Neils, really. My Neil is really sweet and cute, too.
Hell yeah like he was handsome could sing and wrote songs that would stand the test of Time
My family has this 7", my brother picked it out. Lots of good memories, love and miss you, JPG!
Shut up Werner before I I go bash in your mailbox again bitch 🤣

The best feel-good song ever made
Their music really holds up well
None of the local radio stations near me play this, Don't get it, One of the greatest songs I've ever heard.
Omg! Tears in my eyes now! Fond memories of Family and Friends who are lost and gone
+Doctor Garbonzo Yep
ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES FROM THE 80'S
Happy birthday to Paul Hester (drummer). Today would have been his 56th birthday.
the album cover at the end simply lovely however kind of sad that Paul Hester now has those Wings of a Angel as we all know he,s been gone for many years as Depression took a hold of his life and was going through it all and may he be remembered for life RIP Paul Hester aka Hessie 1959-2005 you will always be our original Crowded House Drummer to our Hearts that cover really touches most of our hearts now days since 2005 that is :(
