Man, this is such a great song. I don't know why this didn't become a huge hit in the States. Should have been at least as big as the singles on their first album.
I've been looking for this song from 30 years. I listened once in a bus station, but i couldn't know its name.
@@erickc9373 Right! Is fantastic when it happens !!! And you never forget again the song
First time I've heard this song was while visiting Dublin, 3 guys were playing it on the street and I loved it from the first second, but there were no smartphones and Shazam application then. Few years later, I was back in Croatia and was driving in the car, finally heard it on the radio and remembered the chorus lyrics and finally found the song on youtube! Still one of my favourites ever 😍
When I worked in a supermarket, this song would occasionally come on the store playlist and I'd often think "great...here's that depressing song again", not knowing it was Crowded House, as I slaved away in a job I despised. Looking back, this song takes me back to those supermarket days, and makes me realise things weren't so bad then. The more I listen to this and read into the lyrics, the more I've come to love it, and the more I've come to miss some of the people I use to work with. Im now in a more stressful but higher paying corporate job, but damn sometimes I miss the days of working in that supermarket, the smell of coffee, sunshine streaming in the windows, and the faint cry of "whenever I fall"
Love your description of your past and your emotions and feelings on it all .
Reading your comment, I thought wow that could've been one of my comments word for word except the high paid corporate job , although I've massively moved on job wise too . I also miss things people and places and times and experiences I never fully appreciated back then too . But everything about your comment had a feel as if it was something I had said and done . Your thinking and expression are like a double of my own . Atleast in my mind they are .
I too used to work in not one, but 2 supermarkets when I was a teenager. I found it boring and tedious. I look back now and give thanks for having the opportunity to understand what 'a bundle of notes' was, how to count them quickly, how to organise the banking, and the customer relations experience I gained. Life is a process that we learn from.
This song was played at my grandads funeral as my dad and uncles carried him. Rest in peace grandad Gerrard love you forever
‘The finger of blame has turned upon itself’ amazing lyrics
Man has a beautiful voice
Who listing this melody in 2024 ❤
Me in February 2024. Love this so much. It touches my heart & soul. I will always be listening until I no longer can. What an absolutely beautiful song ❤❤
Me in Belgium. Memories from my younger years… Still sounds like then. Not dated… Timeless and beautiful
The Finn Brothers were on fire with this album.
Brilliant singer/songwriter. Arguably the most underrated ever?
@@slapiro I get your meaning, buddy. Neil is a genius. 'Err Y'arr! Squeeze are still fantastic. Glenn Tilbrook sounds the same, live, as he did in 1981 when I saw him in the Glasgow Apollo.
@@slapiro I totally agree with you....also Roachford is another criminally under rated artist.
I love this song because:
1. it's song with drums where the cymbal is hit only once at the end
2. bass line is beautiful
3. backing vocals are cosmic
4. guitar chords are twisted from the usual just in time
5. and of course epic lyrics
I wish I had paid more attention to Neil back in the 80s. His voice is amazing. I loved loved Split Enz way back then but sorta missed out on all the great Crowded House songs. I am definitely making up for it now in 2023!!
I have goosebumps, I forgot just how beautiful this is xxx thank you
Rediscovering Crowded House during the coronavirus quarantine. They simply bring me joy.
Sometimes I'm almost suspicious of Crowded House for their ability to write and perform songs that are absolutely perfect.
music needs an awakening this is music we need
One of the greatest songs ever written and sung ....
Superb - one of the most moving choruses ever.
My favorite go to band when life gets you down.
One of the mosr beautiful songs I have EVER listened to.

Ever listened to THAT version ua-cam.com/video/wJwjKL2dxXo/v-deo.html
In response to a request from the crowd, Neil sang an impromptu rendition of this at his recent Dublin gig, with Liam and the rest of the family. The crowd sang along enthusiastically. We loved it. We love him.
@@sonyavincent7450 yeah he was wonderful. I think CH may be playing over there this summer. They certainly have some UK dates.
If this song came out today it’d still do great.
Pure classs, we love Crowded House, from England UK
A Pureblood 55 yr old male who cherishes life, love and lyrics.
No Surrender.
As you get older, you really learn to listen and feel the lyrics to songs and this truly is the most beautifully written and sang song ❤️ so underrated, hits the soul.
Masterpiece.
I said it once and I say it again, they don't make music like this no more.such a shame!!!
Finally got to see crowded house live tonight in Glasgow. 2 years after they were meant to play..so worth the wait. Brilliant
Saw this brilliant band at Wembley years ago with my best friend Vanessa. They had a Maori choir with them. One of the best gigs I've ever seen- thanks for all your wonderful music ❤
What a voice and a legend
Just listen to even the first 15 seconds of this masterpiece. From that single opening piano note, who writes music as beautiful as this?
And what the hell is up with the dislikes on this song? I mean seriously.
I have to listen to that opening music at least 5 times before I start listening to the actual song.
I adore this song. Something about it is so fairytale romance mixed with insane tragedy. I love that vibe. It's very of the time.
32 years old and we still listen
...me, I'm (shh! don't tell any1 - 57yrs of age) but I listen 2 dese guyz still; grew up listening & others from de 80's.
This was the sound track of watching my best friend die of cancer in front of my eyes in 2015. The beauty and pain in this, his favourite song - I have to come back to at least once or twice every summer to keep his memory alive in the scars on my heart.
Neil is absolutely brilliant, what an awesome song
A musical genius The lyrics and his melodies, (some so complex, others so beautifully simple). I always lay black & fly away with these magnificent compositions. I almost float out of the room when I let "Sinner" just wash over me. Mr. Finn's podcasts during the pandemic, were so generous . For Neil to let us sit on the recordings, was a saving grace during those horrid times.
If I had one wish, (that can never happen now), it would have been Neil to have written and duetted with my favorite female vocalist. Or he could have penned & produced an ethereal solo for her. His musical magic knows no bounds. I'm grateful that he shared the joys & pain of his poetry. He is a masterclass of talent & humility. Nobody else like him.
One of my favourite songs from Crowded House. A message of unconditional love. Why can't all love stories be stories of unconditional love?
Such poetry and artistry and yet so relatable. I feel like anyone who listened to this (and other) CH songs has a strong memory for where they were and how they felt when the song touched them.
OMG I loved this when I was about 13 years old. Still do. Their voices are haunting!!! Takes me way back.
One of the best band of musicians ever.
Utterly gorgeous, a timeless classic for the ages.
Well well well,. absolute class. Love from England UK 🇬🇧🏴
Pure pop perfection.
Another gem from Crowded House. So many songs that makes you think so "thats them?" Beautiful song and delivery from Neil Finn. A top 10 in anybodys favourite songs.
I was fortunate to see every album tour of Crowded House from the beginning, starting at Canada's Wonderland in 1987. Neil Finn is the finest songwriter of our generation and his voice always feels like home; it brings me relief.
Mr. Finn you're a musical genius !!!
This song NEVER gets old❤️
Timeless. Thankyou crowded house
Hope you're listening to this song... You introduced this to me. I won't get tired of listening to it until I get old.I miss you so much Dave xxxx
This track is stunning
Neil finn has such a beautiful voice
This song is still incredible after all these years. Tim's backing vocals send chills down my spine.
Has to be .surely one of the most romantic ..passion songs ever 💛💙💛
One of the best choruses ever.
Hits me right in the heart right now. Hard.
Every band has that one song that hits you the most and for me, this song will always be favourite from them
What a great band.....!
In a catalog of some of the most amazing songcraft by anyone over the last 35 years, this is right up there among Neil's best. I must have listened to this song a thousand times and never once have I not been in complete awe of the emotions this stirs up. Pure bliss.
Finn - Legend ! End of !
A great band with great songs.
You can interpret the lyrics in any way you like, brilliantly written
Neil Finn one or the greatest songwriters ever
How many times can you hit the thumbs up icon...if I could I would still be hitting thumbs up all the way!!! From Split Enz, / Crowded House, solo works, Finn Bros, etc. etc...have it all..we music lovers were blessed the day Neil & Tim Finn were born!!!
Best crowded house song ever can't wait to see them at iow festival next week
An absolute gem...
Love this song so much.
One of those perfect songs that can make me cry - not many of those
Romance will never die as long as we have Crowded House..
Great band, massively underrated.
i am lost for words with this song. simply stunning, never tire of hearing it, ever
One of the greatest and most underrated bands of all times! (Del amitri is another one)
April 27th, 2023!! Timeless song 🎵 ❤️
I can't believe this has so few views and 319 dislikes , I'm sure people hit dislike just for the hell of it cause this song is a masterpiece.
Humble genius. Crowded House! Their songs make completely sense to anyone's life, I guess- only that things have left it up to anyone to find out for themselves.
So many just downright perfect songs have come from this man's mind...this is one of them...and that is why so many of us never tire of them.
All their music just gets better with age.
This is my favorite Crowded House song!
Still listening to this wonderful album
There’s one glaring issue with this song.... it’s not damn long enough!!
Neil has been a primary soundtrack for last 4 decades, rounding the bend into 5 decades. Many thanks and Love, love, love.
Met you guys when you did the Woodface tour at the Charles Hotel in Perth in the early 90s. You came out to the bar before your gig (Paul Hester had a broken leg) and had a drink with us! Love you guys and miss Paul so much 😭
Perfect 🥰 🎵 🎶 song to listen to when you're feeling low. It's a beautiful song in 2022. What an incredible voice Neil Finn has.
Who's listening to this in May 2020? What a great song!
Yup. Just heard a slower version by Boy and Bear, as part of the soundtrack of the show Giri/Haji. I recognized the words and had to rack my brain to remember it was a Crowded House song. Great song.
Ambient Walking Not only listening to it, but now inspired to cover it again! :-) I used to play it years ago, but for some reason never quite got it right on the guitar (lacking bass and stuff), so I kind of let it slide. Now it‘s delighting me all over again, and I bet my musician ability has improved to the point where I can now make a nice cover out of it, inspired by Neil‘s lush vocals and evocative melody lines and harmonies. A true masterpiece from an amazing artist!
Tonight when I was coming home from work, I was listening to this song in the car on the local radio station. I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio, not even in the nineties. I had to hear it one more time.
Love this song. So moody and true. Love Neil's breathy lead and Tim's distant angelic high-pitched part. Beautiful harmonies as well. Song hasn't aged at all thanks to classic production and great ears.
What a beautiful song 🤩
Love Crowded House but this song touches me the most ❤️
This Song was playing on the radio after my beloved little Poodle 🌸🐩🌺Ava passed....I would fall at her feet anytime, if only I could have her back....my heart is broken...I loved her so much 🌷❤🌹
One of the sexiest songs ever written. Neil, I have loved you since I was 12. My first concert was Split Enz. I'm 50 now. You still sound like an angel.❤🇨🇦
Music makes me feel warm in my lonely essential
The best thing to come out of Australia.P.D.W.
Great Song Powerful, Tragic that many found them to late But the saying is never to late So Sad about hessy, His whole life was Crowded House , What can you not say about Neil. A genius
Remember thiis song so well, it's still one of my favourite songs 😀

I can listen to this song forever
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
If you like Crowded House then you might like a band called The Doublejumps
A bit Joni Mitchell...
I agree and I also adore All I Ask from the same album. Have you played that one?
I'm going to dance with my son at his or my wedding. He's 23 and I'm 42 so whichever gets married first ❤we both love it ❤❤❤
