    Addressing some points people have made:
    Installing it wrong: according to RacingDiffs official full guide (both video and instructions that came in box), we installed this diff correctly. (tutorial from racingdiff's - using alot more force on the central pin than we did ua-cam.com/video/bLESfhaCROE/v-deo.htmlsi=Lnplrlo38fDGmfaN&t=376 ) The videos where they give updated information on new ways to insert the central pin are NOT in any official full installation tutorials, therefore until they re-make their official guides and instructions, we feel that this complaint stands. We also don't believe this is the reason it failed, as the circlip wasn't broken. It was stress going through a differential not designed for it that caused it to ultimately fail when launched. It lasted a few weeks without failing under light load and after going drifting in the wet, something that wouldn't have happened if the central pin was lose due to a broken circlip.
    Drifting with it: The video takes place over the course of a couple weeks, and we did not immediately go out and drift, we made sure to break it in using their official break in instructions, and furthermore we drifted on a wet disel course - something that is quite low stress compared to regular drifting. While RacingDiff's may claim on the site that this product is not meant for drifting (even though we didn't really 'drift') they often advertise it as "Drift. Donut. Burnout. Repeat." as seen in multiple videos. If it can't handle sliding in the wet, we don't think they should advertise this way.     If this kit worked for you, great! This is just our experience. We've had multiple owners say it failed similar to ours, but some have said theres have worked. We just ended up welding the diff as Josh thought this was a bad idea anyway and didn't want to waste another differential.

    I say you should give it a second try and make sure it is installed properly, since it was a poor installation issue. Id day the product deserves a second chance

      @@nctb7962they probably didn’t put the central locking pin back careful enough and broke the C clip that holds it while hammering it in. According to the manufacturer you have to use loads of oil and be really really careful not to break that clip

      @@nctb7962 the trick is not to use too much force, can be done with a hammer if you're super careful, lots of oil, careful alignment and very light taps, literally just enough so it moves 1mm at a time and if it stops moving, remove and realign. the force to drive it in should not change from start to finish, if it does you've snagged something. I noticed something interested between the stock BMW clip and the one provided in the kit, the BMW one had a much larger gap which i think can get you in trouble as it protrudes more. Either way, it's a fragile design by BMW.

    Your circlip that holds the cental pin in wasn't centered, which you can see at @2:58, im guessing you drove the pin home and snapped it which isn't hard to do., I'm also guessing you had no idea what the replacement clip was in your kit and discarded it. I had no issues with mine and it's was in the included instructions if you bothered to read it. This would have happened if you took a entirely stock diff apart and put it back together. I broke the standard one when reinstalling mine with light hammer hits. the trick to NOT breaking this circle clip is to position it perfectly slightly off centre with the open end fully covered. It was installation error sorry.

      Yes, specially at 1 second earlier it's easy to see that it's not correctly seated unfortunately :) Clearly an install mistake.

      @@mariosnikolaou5212 n54 on e85/ Port injection making 350rwkw, I don't drift it. The progressive rate lockup sucks for drifting as it's not perfectly predictable however as a traction aid this works well. The limit is the stock carrier. Abuse it and it will break like most other things on the car. If you're planning on racing the car don't get one of these get a carrier replacement.

    I have Racingdiffs LSD Kit installed on my E39 523i now for a few months and I have been sending it hard af since I got it installed, very satisfied so far. You forgot to weld the center pin to the diff, then it slides out a bit and breaks, causing the failure.

    The same exact thing happened to me about 2 years ago on my e46. The center pin is not strong enough to hold the torque

    I feel like you did that rtv job poor, because you should have added it in front of the bolts and not after.

    Honestly you could have a 50/50 guilty but for a "fair play" you may give it a second chance, rebuild it correctly and test it in a professional way. I think ou have enogh money to do another video, meccanically talking, it's a good project, if made with good matherials and installed correctly it could be a damn masterpiece...

    You made a big mistake while installing the conversion. I should also mention that the conversion is not for professional purposes, because during continuous drifting, the friction plates heat up.

    I installed the same kit twice on my e90 330i with a 188l 3.46 lsd from a 335i i installed along w a custom drive shaft. first one blew within 2 weeks. second one was professionally installed by my warehouse neighbor who builds 911 gt2 and gt3 race cars and that also failed within a month :/. went with a mfactory helical lsd and all has been well.

      If you drive it like you have a helical or clutch LSD, than you can't be surprised that it broke... It depends on how one treats it. This is not 1 to 1 spare for classic LSD.
      I have kit for 2 years and 30k Km on my e90 330i without any problem.

    When you try to install one of these kits, you will if your looking! find a few problems, the instructions are not enough! and even if you watch the video's they are also not enough, and in my case not specific to the the kit I had, they also are just plain wrong, they tell you to take 4mm off the output shafts, you do that and they still stick out past the gears, if you shorten them too much, there is no surface for the clutch pack to act on, other than about 1mm around the inner of the gear, so you need to machine them down ''exactly'' fitting and refitting over and over, also you have to compress the pre-load shims so you can obtain the correct clearance, it's a long slow process to do properly, I kept thinking that the kit was the wrong one, I contacted Racing-Diff's asking to confirm the size of the friction plates they didn't provide that information in there reply, as an engineer I think this kit ''might'' work but only if installed properly and as far as I can see that info is not available, I seem to be the only person to have bothered to analytically asses the workings, I think the kit for most people, will not be worth the time it will take to fit it correctly, if they can even do that, especially if like me, you have to work it out yourself, and if you don't have a lathe your wasting your time, there is another way to finish them at home if you have a drill press, but it's still best to start with machining them in a lathe, I am considering making a video to explain how to do it ''properly'' but really there is no point for me, as then I'm just making a free video for Racing Diffs, for a product that I'm not that happy about, I think they over simplify the fitting instructions so people are willing to try the install, as if most people knew how complicated and long the process really was, they would not buy the kit, and if you paid an engineer to install, it would cost more than the kit it's self. seems to be selling things on the internet means you have to bullshit a bit, as people want stuff to be super easy to do, when the nature of the job means it's just not super easy, also most people lack the proper equipment and skills to do the job properly , if you follow the instructions in the kit or in the video's the kit will last a fraction of the time compared to installing it properly, Sad but True.

      Agreed, that is our complaint, maybe we installed it “wrong” but we followed their guide to the letter and therefore it is their lack of proper documentation.

    Its just a Bandaid, if you want a sub $1000 solution i do a modded lunchbox locker that ive made to fit into the early 188mm open center, if someone wants to send me a late 188mm ill try do the c clip mod on it, im in Adelaide if someones keen

    Mines lasted 6 weeks so far, 562whp 135i. I had a professional install done though, i know of a 9 second 335i that's had this for 4 years now, so some peoples experiences aren't bad

      Ok this is interesting. I installed mine a few months ago and it’s starting to loosen up on me. I’m going to try changing out the diff fluid and see if that fixes it. Also in the process of turboing my e36, so I don’t want to grenade my rear end.

      Im sorry but... why the hell would you put that on a 560hp car :D thats bound to break at some point. Youre already spending a lot on that car, why not just get a proper LSD for it? Do you also run stock brakes? :DDD seriously, this kit is a nice thing for someone who doesnt drift too often and also doesnt want to live with a welded diff (so not really for 500€ E36 on the low end of the spectrum and its certainly not for a 15-30k€ 135i :DD)

    I had the same exact kit on my E36 BMW and it lasted for whole 50k miles while I owned the car.
    It's probably the installation that caused premature damage.

    I had a spare diff and blew it within 20 minutes. Didn't like 450bhp launches lol.
    Safe to say I now have a M performance diff installed lol

      Why the hell do people with 300+hp put this thing into their differentials is beyond me.. its pretty obvious its made for the mid end customer who doesnt want a welded diff but also doesnt feel like a 1500-3000€/$ is worth it on a 3-8k car :D Reminds me of people who turbo and tune old 200hp engines to 400-500hp and run stock brakes :DD just why... youre already spending the money, dont spend it twice..

    As a mechanic I've never seen this bolt it lsd kit. good concept though. those little bolts do look a bit small to be bearing the load of the planetary gears. awesome video. transparent and to the point. Nice job boys

    I had the same problem
    but I have a shop and found out that the central pin was not hardened and because of that it granaded my diff. But they send replacement and the second diff was just not working as lsd so... :(

    I had the same problem on an E46 330i. I broke the pin into 3 pieces, because it has reduced diameter than standard pin. As I can see, lots of owners have same problem with it.

    Don’t feel bad. I put the same LSD in my E46 and utilized the install instructions referenced in the video and mine still only survived 4 months before the central pin walked and shattered my 3.46 diff

    To me it's the product's fault, not installation. Looks like the center locking pin snapped, it's probably made of cheap métal that's not strong enough hold the torque. I had this happened in stock open diff during a long one wheel peel burnout, one of the output shaft bearing overheated and started welding itself to the carrier and output shaft itself, and when it locked up completely the locking pin snapped clean off just like yours. TBH if you could have someone make you a stronger locking pin that fits this conversion kit it might work and not break like that again. Also I don't think your diff is completely f*cked, you could probably remove the plates ans fit the stock locking pin back in and have a proper working stock diff...or just weld everything thats left in there

      I think you're right, it looks to be the pin snapped, not the c clip fail as others are suggesting. We also may be welding whats left soon 👀

      Central pin come lose due to inproper instalation.

      @@pokojnitozo2360c clip probably broke because of the hammer, the guys who sell this posted a video explaining it and recommend to use a hydraulic press, although they have an older tutorial where they use the hammer

      You're right we aren't that promising 😂, but on their current guide on installing they use a hammer to install the central pin. This is what we discussed when we said the information was not included in their online guide or in the insutrctions included with the product. If this is the required process, they need to update their guides!

    I like the video its shot very nicely and the quality is honestly quite good icl, but when you do zero research into the matter since even the actual page of the racingdiffs has a direct link to their videos and without the supervision of a professional you cannot blame the company that made it if it was installed incorrectly then blame them that they didnt provide the videos even though a simple google search would've shown more info about the installation process, furthermore you cannot say "i dont recommend it" if you installed it wrong then it broke, you simply havent given it a fair shot to even review it properly, the fact that the company gave you guys a refund shows that they do care about their products and overall customer satisfaction...maybe do a part 2 and get it installed by a professional:)

      I appreciate your input, but harshly disagree.
      We did do plenty of research watching multiple videos, articles and reviews before installing, knowing the product, how it works inside and out.
      The instructions included, and the ones that are made SPECIFICALLY for this diff AND come in the box, do not have the information included that supposedly “was the reason it failed”, it’s buried in a random video that isn’t available for customers to find.
      They’ve known about these issues for over 2 years, but haven’t updated their guides, and we feel it’s very reasonable to not recommend it based on that. We’ve said this is simply our experience, and that they’ve been fair to give us a refund, but we will not be able to recommend this product to our viewers.

      @@daycrew I understand your point of view but I was able to find all the videos from their website+emailing them beforehand and they've always given me input when I sent pics to them before finishing the is install and helped me resolve some problems. I still think that things that are not as simple as welding the diff should be done by professionals in their field even though there's videos of people installing these kits and I personally know a friend with a 328i e36 that has a kit from racingdiffs and has lasted so far 1+ year of drifting/dailying, either way I feel like the review isn't complete since you weren't able to install it correctly so it would actually be able to be evaluated.

      how can you say something about supervision of a professional? how many out of 10 professionals you think know how to install this thing? its such an uncommon thing and not seen anywhere else that you cannot really say anything about that

      @@razeru_ quite literally every mechanic that works on drift cars knows, close to me I have many! I understand it's not easy to find these people but it's not impossible, when doing something yourself you should always seek advice if you aren't sure how to install something, with pictures of the build and they will guide you, plus racingdiffs has been very helpful to me when working on my friends

      @@razeru_ This problem would happen if they just rebuild diff. It is known thing what is holding central pin, an how to put it back without braking C clip.

    You know you need to shorten the input flanges in the diff with this kit ? If you didn’t do it, that’s why it blew up

      On the 188k diffs you do not. Only the e36 diffs

    I have the conversion kit more than 2 years and 30k km done. I did installation by my self, its not difficult. I had all necessary information before i started. I knew about the necessity of machining spiders gear, c-clip, locking glue, tightening torques for screws to ring gear etc...
    So it's definitely installation fault followed by wrong using it. The kit do what supposed to do. If you expect that kit is the same as clutch LSD, thats your problem and your fault when it breaks. If you drive it like you have a helical or clutch LSD, than you can't be surprised that it broke... It depends on how one treats it. This is not 1 to 1 spare for classic LSD.

    The kit is great to improve handling, especially on snow. With the kit you can stop in hill and move again. With open diff you go nowhere.
