Michael McDonald was the obvious choice - to me - to induct them. His background vocals are as iconic as anything in Steely Dan tunes. He seems to have their respect.
exactly what i was thinking. for the lasting perfection of Steely Dan to be inducted into the now, discredited rock n roll HoF,should have been conducted by someone of equal stature, say a Beatle or David Gilmour (a big fan) or even Trump, deliciously ironic and F&B would have smiled at. Moby. good grief.
@@davidlindsay9564 ha! total tongue & cheek example. I wouldn't have (or care) a clue who Moby picked, but they should have had someone 'comparable' in status to SD, who I believe have the finest catalogue of tunes since Johnny Mercer or Richard Rogers. And arguably better. Certainly more sophisticated musically
Yes I agree not a great choice as inductor......and Moby says so..........good that the Dan got the accolade....Moby was on the ball with most that he said in his intro..........he did a good job.
I'm not sure who you could get to induct them. The line about Steely Dan hating everyone is fairly accurate. I suppose you might be able to get Michael McDonald, Skunk Baxter, or Larry Carlton but other than musicians that did session work with them I'm not sure who you could connect to Steely Dan.
What a dunce this Moby guy is, inducting one of the greatest rock/jazz bands of all time into the hall of fame. There are so many great things to say about this legendary band and he blew it. What a doofus. If Donald and Walter really selected him to induct them, the worse the worst mistake of their career. Good grief.
I'm with you Jonas...I thought he was pretty funny and witty and seemed pretty comfortable up there...BTW which Jonas brother are you?(asking for a friend)
I think his music had very little overlap with Steely Dan...he's a fan but shows no evidence of being inspired by their art. In other words, just a "known name". Any SD fan could have been more influenced by their music.
I thought 🤔 he had some witty riffs woven in also. Great ending remark about their weirdness; they’re weird and mesmerizing af!!! 🙌🏾🎸🎹🥁🎷🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯🤓 But it was just a miss for soo many of Us as fans. They are not only our sonic and compositional heros, but also pop-cultural wizards!! They are every contemporary musical student’s listening 👂🏽 and analysis assignment. After all, we should ALL be composing an essay on WHAT and WHO the fuck Steely Dan were for ourselves as musical explorers and early adepts 🙏🏾🎼🌎💯
RR HOF chose him because Moby was big back in 2001, and they wanted him to induct them so his fans could watch. He probably was never a fan and wouldn't be chosen, today!
Who the hell is Moby and why was he chosen for this?. I suppose they want the "new generation" to induct all these legendary classic hall of fame musicians, but there is no new generation.
I did react when i saw Kid Rock introduce Bob Seger to the Hall of Fame. But he did it with so mutch Love and Respect. But what was this? Maybe i did not understand some punshline on the way? But ever since i was Reading a Artikel in NME. in the late seventies about Haitian Divorce. I have had a lifelong releshionship with Steely Dan. Culminasion seeing them Live in Oslo back in year 2000. So, this intro was dissapointing.

Good choice Steve....and if ever the Doobies should be admitted to the club, MM should be right there with them.
The RRHOF don't know or care who would be appropriate for induction speeches. Pink Floyd were inducted by Billy Corgan.
True, but the Hall of Fame is not a respectable organization, so this was an appropriate choice on that front.
but he was in the band. so that'd be odd choice.
MOBY????? for real??? that's the best you could do? what an insult.
Maybe this was supposed to be Anthony Edwards. There is quite a resemblance...🤪
I agree, Moby?!
Who's bright idea was that?
The Dan are iconic and deserved a better induction than that?!
Terrible induction speech... who the heck chose Moby to do the speech for one of the most iconic bands of our time. Wow!
+Nek Zilla I totally agree, what an absolute IDIOT Moby is. They should have picked him for Liberace.
It was done intentionally so that that self loathing chucked white Moby the dick would spoil their long awaited moment
exactly what i was thinking.

Moby.
good grief.
@@spactick oh come on. He'd be better for like Kraftwerk or something like that.

Steely Dan deserved a much better introduction than this guy gave them!
Love Moby’s music but have to agree with you. Terrible speech.
They picked him, and it's full of subversive irony, which is what SD is all about.
Fuckin eejit.. knows nothing about them...when they rang you should have just said no...ego maniac

RIP Becker :-(

I would suggest Keith Jarrett. They loved him so much they plagiarised him, so they've become co-composers, and Keith hates everybody too !
look at the audience... geez... Custerdome
Steely Dan was John Belushi’s favorite band.
What he said at the end tho about them being weird is true, increadible coupla dudes

The greatest
Moby gets so much hate here. He's a fine artist himself, strange unexpect for an electronic artist to induct a jazz rock band. lol
wow. a pure crap speech from a name that even his fanbase has forgotten. why? this is embarrassing. oh well.
I thought Moby did a fine job. What's with all this hate? Any suggestions for improvement?
I'm with you Jonas...I thought he was pretty funny and witty and seemed pretty comfortable up there...BTW which Jonas brother are you?(asking for a friend)
Not reading the whole speech off a piece of paper. Oration 101.

Who is "Maybe?"
RR HOF chose him because Moby was big back in 2001, and they wanted him to induct them so his fans could watch. He probably was never a fan and wouldn't be chosen, today!
Moby is a fan, for sure. I know, weird, but he is.
Someone please do a count every time Moby says "i" or "me" while inducing one of the greatest duos ever. If I do it I may not survive.
Lol...what a bizarre choice...wow
That was a painful speech in every way
WELL THAT'S 4:51 MIN's OF MY LIFE WASTED............
Who the hell is Moby and why was he chosen for this?. I suppose they want the "new generation" to induct all these legendary classic hall of fame musicians, but there is no new generation.
Connie Bauer who is moby? Who is CONNIE BAUER.
Moby was a perfect choice! His introduction was just the appropriate touch of bizarre!
Steely Dufus inducts Steely Dan.
C trop bien
Moby and his heroes don't belong here.

Moby just play Vatican Commandos will you?!
10/10 was punked
Steely Moby...
No
I can't
Almost as bad as when Dave Matthews inducted Traffic. All he did was talk about himself and taking acid.
Schnooooor!
