People say he's such a strange character but in actuality he's normal compared to all the narcissistic swine that fills the entertainment business .
He seeemslucidhere!
on point!!
Floating a tad
He's SO sweet. Has always been.
He's so kind, so honest, and has this pure integrity that you rarely see in a person.
He's also one of the greatest poets ever. I usually would say something like "The Cure is arguably the best rock band of all time." But i'm starting to think it isn't arguable anymore.
Robert Smith is the only celebrity that has appeared in South Park and wasn't mocked - instead, he was the hero of the episode. He is a great geezer.
What bout Radiohead?
What episode?
There was a Halloween episode with the band Korn and they weren't mocked
Ozzy Osbourne killed two birds with one stone.
Brian boitano - “am I a joke to you??”
"..I'm no good with stories and stuff, and I'm a very bad communicator..."
- The guy who has written some of the best music of our generation
It's because he is a true artist. Most comfortable in his element, when on stage performing...
-The guy who has put into precise words and conveyed with his voice, what so many people feel and couldn't express
He makes a fragile impression, he seems to be a very sensitive person ❤😊
❤ right? 😊😊
omg, Robert Smith is freakin adorable. He's as uncomfortable as anyone who's not a megastar would be standing in front of a massive crowd.
He looks like a corpse.
He’s always been sensitive
It's always the geniuses that are the most humble. I adore him!!!!
@@luannabbate2624 i adore him too
He's clearly a fellow introvert and I love that about him
I saw him in a black taxi last month in SE London and I pointed to my heart then pointed to him. He smiled and waved.

He's such a shy, genuinely humble guy, despite all of the fame and stardom, a nice guy all in all.
Yep.......
The band as a whole change personally..............always friendly,..,..........a little quiet.....,.....l don't blame them........
A genuine person with good qualities...........shy.........the jury is out.........
It is kind of funny , i just said the exactly same words to my son for about a half our ago.
So true
"I'm no good with stories and stuff, and I'm a very bad communicator, generally," says one of the greatest songwriters of all times. All of Robert's songs are vivid stories. I've listened to The Cure since I bought the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me cassette in 1987. I saw it on the shelf in the mall music store while on an out of town high school choir trip. I bought it because I liked the artwork. I'd never heard of The Cure before in my small Texas town, and Kiss Me sent me down a rabbit hole and beyond. My first Cure concert was the Disintegration Tour at the Starplex Amphitheatre in Dallas, TX in 1989. Ah, such memories. Every Cure song takes me back to a special moment in my life that I will cherish forever. Thank you, Robert Smith!
Well said. Similar story here. Loved them from the early days and saw them twice in concert in England; London and Birmingham. Still just like heaven...
@@hardastern5447 very cool! The Disintegration tour show was so inspiring. I was only 16 at the time, and it opened my eyes to the world of new music.
Great story. My late older brother bought Kiss Me Kiss Me on cassette. I remember when he brought it home it was a long cardboard box that the cassette came in. It was like how the cds use to come in boxes. I’ve never seen cassettes come in like that.

Birmingham for me, and you can never look back!. Kudos to all. ✌
Much love to you and yours bud.

Aww. Robert is so endearingly awkward, and at the same time, he seems genuinely delighted. Great band, great artist, and a more than well-deserved induction.
"Endearingly awkward" ... a perfect choice of words. I love it! And it's so true ... he looks as uncomfortable speaking now as he did in his interviews decades ago. He can't be anyone but himself, and at 45, I still look up to him as a role model for being authentic and sincere even when I feel like I should hide.
"We love you too. That's the point."
Pure class
Gotta agree...............a quick, quip too..........good luck..........Camden, London.......
What a weird person 🥸
From one introverted weirdo to another... Robert you are a breath of fresh air.

How many of his lyrics hit home for us weirdos?
✊❤️
He gives a pretty good performance and speech for an introvert.
I absolutely love the diversity in their music.........and so much more........
One of those rare voices that sounds exactly the same live as he does on his album..... awesome
I love Cure, Bezuss Taylor............from the Dead , Beefheart, Zep', Joni......... ..et al........a quick ramble.........l always thought of the Cure as Bowie said.........eccentric........but so English.& brilliantly dark - witty.......heartbreakingly good...........give another southern English band....."Wet Leg", a try........thousands have already.......but if you wanna smile, try them.........
And a voice that sounds consistent throughout the years like smh his voice hasn't aged one bit
@@dorellusthagod exactly! 2 days ago I was lucky to be at his concert - his voice is as young as at the beginning of his career. Unbelievable!
Fact
Yes, it's 'just like a dream...'
Robert Smith always was and still is a very genuine, down-to-earth, modest man who has deserved every shred of success in his career. No arrogance just talent. He has my respect anyway. Smith is still married (since 1988) to his wife for whom he wrote the song ‘Love Song’as a wedding present.
The Cure line - ups have always fluctuated but this simply has seemed to add more variety to there excellent music......
"their",......apologies......
Many songs are written about Mrs Mary
Stable in his uniqueness.
He’s is genuine. What else would you want to be?

When he said, “I’m terrible at communicating..” NO SIR. You have been communicating and telling the story of my heart for 40 years. And I love you DEEPLY for it…🙏🏻❤️
isnt it funny, that was my thought too. for a terrible communicator i always thought he kind of hit it on the head what i was thinking and felt when i was a kid in the early 80's, and how i wished i could communicate some of the things he said in his songs to some of the people in my life at the time. Now in my 50's i've tried a lot harder to be this free. it's not such a bad way to be. I'll credit him a good bit for that. If he can do it why cant i?
ZERO rock stardom idiocy, still humble after decades of huge success, no ridiculous scandals and other screams for attention. Robert Smith and The Cure are simply awesome. Sometimes the music is good enough to speak for itself.
I really think they're the greatest rock band of all time. That it's always arguable to me with most great bands. But The Cure? 17 Seconds? Faith? Pornography? Freaking Wish?!! Paris, which is one of the three or four truly amazing live albums, like, ever made, alongside(well, better than, actually) say, Kiss Alive or Nirvana Unplugged??
Man, they're the one.
You hit it right on!
Da sachste was!
Bro there not the greatest rock and roll band ever. That’s pretty far out opinion. I don’t think there even Top 10 maybe top 20 but damn the cure ain’t the greatest of them all.

I will always be a “Faith” and “Seventeen Seconds” kind of girl. That was the beginning of my beautiful 40 year journey with The Cure.
You should see them live if you get the chance! They are just incredible live. :)
Live is definitely the key. Anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 hours of joyous yet ominous bliss...🖤
I’m 23 years old and my dad who is in his 50s has been a die hard The Cure fan since he was in high school and college. This past weekend I had the honor of going to a Cure concert with him. I was blown away. Not only at the raw talent that Robert and the rest of the band have, but I was also blown away at the music and lyrical influence that Robert has had on some of my favorite artists. His emotional songs with eerie guitar rifts made me think of Kid Cudi as well as many other artists I’ve listened to while growing up. This dude and the band have influenced music in general more than they probably understand. An absolute legend.
Yes sir, and that is called rock n roll. Hope you find more classic influences.
That’s awesome! So happy you got to experience one of the greatest bands on the planet with your Dad. I took my younger brother to their Wish tour way back in 1992. He still talks about it. It was a wonderful bonding experience. I saw them a few days ago and my goodness, the show was gorgeous and beautiful. They really are one of the best 🥰🥰
Thanks for your insight. Your dad has good music taste with the Cure
Nice, your dad sounds cool af

I wouldn't say Robert Smith is weird or strange. He is just more comfortable performing on stage, than giving speeches and being the centre of attention like that. He is clearly very humble for getting the award and maybe feels slightly awkward about the accolade, even though it is very much deserved. Well done to the band.
The Cure won fans every night they played. They gave fans there money's worth for a ticket. Like 3 1/2 hours worth of money...
In an interview with Robert (many years ago) he said the band wants to give the best performance they can every night because that may be the only opportunity a fan will have to be there, so they truly do it for their audience.
Thank you, Robert, for your gift of music. You're just like a dream.
So down to earth and humble. He may feel socially awkward in talking like this but everything came out perfectly and his songs say everything perfectly. So right with so much heart
I love his smile, it is so gorgeous! I love you Robert, you are are such a sweet guy! Great music since 40 years, I love that band so much❤️
I always dismissed this band as a whiny goth band, but about a month ago, on a whim, I watched a concert video of theirs and now I LOVE them! Very creative and interesting.
Bee Kay How could you have been so wrong
I thought they were gonna be another Duran Duran or some other overly 80s pop band but HOLY fuck was I wrong... been a fan for about 4 years now and they're probably my favorite band
Steve watch their 40th anniversary show in Hyde Park. A great performance that walks through their history.
The same happened to me about a month ago, was it 'A Forest live at Pinkpop? Now I'm hooked.
@Steve It was the 40th anniversary show. Fascination Street and Shake dog Shake are two songs in particular that should help you. I'm a Pink floyd, Zeppelin, Yes kind of guy, but The Cure is a great band too, really. I don't care for their poppy stuff but I forgive them for those. I always sneered at them but no longer!
His beautiful humility and kindness are magnificent.
I cant think of anyone more deserving of this award than The Cure. Robert Smith is unparalleled ❤
He’s so authentic and genuine❤️🙏🏽🎤🎸🎼
