- We drove the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno! It's new, and the changes are not just cosmetic. While the engine's the same 1.2-litre NA petrol, the AMT is the choice for an automatic gearbox. The new Baleno is priced from Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Cyrus Dhabhar gives us a first drive review of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno and tells us if it's better.

I have booked alpha model but I'm confused to go with it bcuz i20 get sunroof...bose speakers...ambiant lights...air purifier...so plz help me to which is better to buy...bcuz i20 seems more comfortable and space.

How safe is the base model?
DRAB! That's the one word I'd use to describe this review. Give this man a Tata Punch, he doesn't seem to enjoy any other car.
The tyres on the Baleno would disagree with that statement.

If you are able to live with build quality(even with the upgrades 😅), it is probably the most vfm car on the market considering the features
Trust me, the build quality is on par with everything else on the market.
Then why not come out and showcase in NCAP ? 🤔. Safety first, features next!!
Global ncap is a joke organisation. They dont even have a proper policy on how they select the cars. Because of which the tests cannot be trusted.

Thats because they made a good car, structurally. But that doesn't mean all other cars are unsafe and the testing procedure done by GNCAP is not world class . For your knowledge Global ncap has nothing to do with Euro ncap and far behind the standards of euro ncap which is by the way the std testing agency for european union. On other hand the gncap is just an ngo with whom no countries or unions have made them an authorised test agency.
The test results of Gncap varied for the same model car when tested twice that shows they are not a credible agency. I know there is no pointing in saying facts with fan boys, but knowledge is for sharing!
They could have given CVT at least as an option . .. I also read somewhere that they are making it and exporting it with the bigger 1.5 liter engine (yes that will not fall under the 1.2 L tax structure), cant we have that as an option as well?
I do have a same opinion...
1.5 is for international markets.
As mentioned their should be a 6 speed (O) manual torque converter, it's drives to smooth.

Altroz is beating i20 sales every month ???! Jan sales was 6.5k i20 vs 4.5k altroz according to sales figures so that's i20 beating altroz
@@nidhinsl2603 last year Altroz beat i20 almost every month. Jan may be an exception.
The only reason is semiconductor shortage issue. Back in October a few dealerships had 3 months wait time for i20.
@@GirishKumarBhat altroz is getting these high sales even without an automatic option. Soon that will be added and sales will get a boost.
@@ninadganore I was talking about Jan 2022 and Feb as well i20 sold 5.8k units vs 5k units of altroz so you're talking about automatic option i20 has revised the features provided across the segments as well from this month or so

Just Booked my Luxe Beige Baleno Alpha Manual today...90 days waiting....anyways wish me luck .....my first ever car....but i also love i20....both are fab cars....and right now, the prices between baleno and i20 are almost identical....
infact if you ask me, i20 is more VFM....for same price it is giving you a bigger touchscreen, Bose Sound system compared to Arkamys....a sunroof.....yes Baleno has a 360 cam and a HUD..but I would prefer the feature list of i20....
it's just that where I live the maruti network is much stronger and the workshop and this dealership is next door and also a friend of mine had an i20 elite and she told me her ownership experience was subpar in terms of reliability of the car...so i choose baleno...and also in this Luxe Beige colour, the Baleno just looks top notch..even better than i20 imho....
but of course looks are subjective....I agree with most of your points..I test road both of them for over 10 kms...multiple times....before making a choice...the tractability of baleno's engine is much better than i20...in terms of Naturally Aspirated options...i20 does have better high speed stability and brakes...but in terms of space, i20 is more spacious, sure the boot is a little smaller, but the rear seat space is unmatched, even putting some sub compact SUVs to shame...
i20 also has a lot of creature comforts such as wireless charger, air purifier and the list goes on....Baleno does have slightly better seats...
it's almost inseparable, like king kong vs godzilla....
anyways both are fantastic cars, anyone will be happy with either...and both are evenly priced as well with good dealer/service network and very acceptable ownership costs...i20 was released in 2019, maybe it is due for a minor update...
Hi PD… can you guys do a series on the list of vehicles (specifically the ones from 2020 & 21) that have global safety rating.. and also explain pros and cons why is it important for the customer to buy vehicles with global safety ratings … kinda general awareness 😊

A close source tells me that MSIL is targeting a 4-star in the ASEAN NCAP.
It looks the team has brought design cues from multiple other cars in the market and putting all of them together giving it a confused look. Instead looking out for cues, they could have brought the cues from the Swift alone. Swift looks a perfect hatch!

Good SO GOod! finally rectified few mistakes.. I dont mind the body build as long as aesthetics, interior plastic quality, good dashboards, great steering and fun to drive sutra is met.
The whole video was shot or maybe footages were selected from the shoot on just one patch of highway within 5-6kms. Old Goa - Panjim Highway. Nice.

You're spot on Cyrus about the torque converter. I would have suggested this car in a heartbeat to my parents who are currently looking to buy a hatchback but the Maruti's decision to plonk the antiquated AMT spoiled it. A six speed torque converter and a 100 or 110 bhp engine would have made this a killer proposition.

Altroz/i20 and dare I say Polo are much much better than this.
This is just a average mass market car, that's it.
The other two are also the same mass market car, but atleast they go that extra mile to offer something better and new in the segment and outbest themselves.
I think Value to proportion wise Altroz is much better, and if one has some extra cash then go for a i20 or a Polo for that matter.
Btw, as always the review was AMAZING, PD Rocks!
Altroz iturbo and Polo tsi are good options at this price point. Because more than that, we get CSUVs and SUVs. No middle earner in this market will spent huge on a car that its price doesn't justify its size and segment.

What is happening to diesels in India??
Diesels are slowly being taken off production everywhere not just India. Whatever engine currently exists is the last of that batch of diesel engines, no automobile company is at present developing new diesel engine blocks, only retaining/or removing whatever they have as of now.
